- ⚠️ BitLocker might be turned on without your knowledge. That's fine, but make sure you have the recovery key stored somewhere should you ever need them.
BitLocker may be enabled by default without your knowledge. You can examine all the BitLocker recovery keys associated with your Microsoft Account by visiting account.microsoft.com/devices..., or you can examine the state of each drive, and back up its recovery key manually, by right-clicking on the drive in Windows File Explorer and clicking Manage BitLocker. Either way, if you’re using BitLocker, make sure to back up your recovery key.

You may be using BitLocker and not even know it.
There's no recovery key in my account, what's the problem ?
@@augustinf.lwanzo7387 No idea. Check with your computer's manufacturer to see what they have to say. If nothing else, turn Bitlocker OFF. You can then turn it back on again if you like, and it'll generate a new key for you which you can save.
@@askleonotenboom I tried to turn it off but the volume is already locked, I have no idea what else I can do
@@augustinf.lwanzo7387 You can try rebooting into safe mode, Alternately you can image backup the drive, reformat, and restore the image. (The image created by tools like macrium reflect or easeus todo will not be encrypted.)
@@askleonotenboom my computer tells me to put in the bitlocker but I never recall putting it in what do I do
I followed the instruction, but it says you don't have any Bitlocker recovery keys uploaded.
Same
Same , I found
pls suggest anyone what to do
Did it say you don't have any keys uploaded or did it say "TRY A DIFFERENT URL"? If it said "try a different URL" then it might be fixed after you renew your one drive account.
How did you guys fix it with, try a different url?
If device is registered on microsoft account then we can find out the bitlocker key otherwise we are unable to find the bitlocker key.
Leo, you are a lifesaver! Thank you for this video! Subscribed! Not only did you provide valuable information, but you did it in a clear and concise manner! Thank you again.
Leo thanks a million and one. I purchased a new hp all-in-one and had it set up and working great. But, when I changed to my favorite keyboard and mouse, my current problem popped up. It would not recognize my favorite "logi" Logitech mouse. Then, all of a sudden, I receive a screen requesting a BitLocker recovery key. But, watching your video gave me the info. I needed. I logged into my MS account and requested a BitLocker recovery key and voila, it was there for both of my computers. So, thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Thank you, Leo. That link you put up did the trick; when I first went on to my Microsoft account the recovery key was not showing. You have saved me so much time and hassle, hugely appreciated.
This was the best video on Bitlock. Thank you.
Sir you are a LIFESAVER. I was tensed past couple of days. You explained very thoroughly. Nice work sir 👍🙏
Brilliant. You just solved my biggest nightmare 🙏🙌
Thanks so much! Actually I was sure that I have never enable bitlocker on my old portable, and now that we need it, and it was stuffed, not even able to log, bang, was asking for the bitlocker code.
Thanks for the link, i this it is the single most important thing of this video, then to check al emails and so on. Thanks again.
How do you do a reinstalling of windows 10 home on the bitlocker recovery screen?
This is tremendous... Have tried alot of ways but failed and this simple but effective way made my day. Thanks Leo.. Heads off
I hope you mean "hat's off". Losing my head would be painful. :-)
THank You Sooooooooooo Much Leo Sir I Am Glad to see your Video I Unlocked My Drive !!!!!
Hello Sir I have installed a new window on C drive but when I saw D drive is automatically bit -locked. Now I have checked my microsoft account C drive Key can be generated but for the D I didn’t create any before. Now how can I recover this drive contents please.
Thank you so much for this info
Thank you Leo
I am assisting a client with a Lenovo Yoga laptop that was dropped unfortunately and I need to help recover the data. But was confronted with Bit Locker and they did not enable or activate this option themselves. It is a work in progress and I was looking for a nice video to send to them to see if they might have a Microsoft Account that may have their original Recovery Key, as the laptop is not booting correctly at the moment. I will be sending them you video, perfect video Leo thank you.
Thank you very much. Your video help me to unlock my device. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this information
Thank you so much!
You are a hero solved my problem
It's Very important. Thank You Sir
I went to the microsoft account but it tells me to "try a different url we dont have anything to show you at this link. Try searching for what you want instead."
Hi Leo for some reason my device came with bitlocker pre enabled but it still says that’s I do not have any recovery keys. I’m in a situation where I can’t get into windows and only winre. I’m using an asus zen book pro duo.
You'll have to contact the manufacturer.
Can you access the Bitlocker key if you create a Microsoft account after being locked out? We have been running Windows 10 and not using a Microsoft account to sign in.
Not that I'm aware of. They is associated with the Microsoft account when the key is created.
It's very sad but Microsoft seems to have not saved my bitlocker recovery keys online even though I've been using my account to log into this machine from 2017 to 2022. Now when bitlocker suddenly locked me out, Microsoft online just doesn't have the key. They say "try a different URL"
UPDATE! I LOOKED THIS SPECIFIC ERROR UP AND THERE IS A SOLUTION! MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER A ONE DRIVE ACCOUNT! Once I registered my one drive account, the recovery key appeared in the URL mentioned in the video. SUCH A RELIEF!
What can you do, when you have a microsoft account but is gives the same error? Try a different url. You mean, pay for one drive to get acces or?
If bitlocker is pre enabled then what? you didn't deliver on that one.
THANKS SIR YOU ARE GREAT
Dear Leo i give up i receive a lenovo ideapad 100s from a friend now the machine has a bitlocker screen ...i dont know if he had an microsoft account in order to check that way for the password WHAT DO I DO I really need to unlock the screen as i have urgent assignments to do PLEASE HELP
Thank you very much. You safe my life!
I got try a different URL instead they mention they don't have anything to show me
How did you fix it?
I found one of my client printed the bit locker key and kept it pasted behind the keyboard
Hi Leo
I'm in deep mess, I'm trying to boot the laptop but It won't even let me reboot it as the Bitlocker Recovery Key is required to move ahead. I have blue screen requesting the recovery key, which I never had saved or remembered being asked to save. Thanks for your support. Whatever I do, I can succeed in bypassing the Bitlocker recovery key
If you can suggest a tips, I'll be very grateful to you.
Watch the video and you may be able to recover the key.
What did you do in the end?
Yo..were you able to find your bitlocker key automatically generated and saved in your ms account? Or was it not there pls reply coz I'm facing the same...
Help. I forgot to save my recovery key in my Microsoft account. I tried disabling secure boot in BIOS but I can't click it. And using command prompt does not give me my recovery key. What do I do?

I don’t have a Microsoft account, and my thinkpad has locked me out for no reason. I didn’t set up bitlocker, it was automatically set up apparently. Is there another way to get the key?
How are you "locked out"? There could be many different ways.
So if you've never set a recovery key, don't have one, there's none associated with your Microsoft account, and overnight Bitlocker got turned on by a Windows update, what are my options? The only option is to track down the original documents for my 7 year old computer and enter some 48-digit key?
If you still have access to the machine and it's working, a) back up and b) turn bitlocker off.
I am locked out and cannot use the proper microsoft account to get the bitlocker key
This is outrageous- the bitlocker is not on my Microsoft account, and my surface book 2 just died. I never enabled anything...How can Microsoft possibly do that to customers.
Iam facing this issues but I didn't made a bitlocker key before and my computer is locked as asking me for a bitlocker key or password what is should I do,, some one help me guys :((((((
You fixed?
I am not able to see Bit locker password in my account . it shows you Don't have any Bit locker . But when I on my system its asking for Bit locker
@ask leo
It is better to have your Bitlocker Key in a USB Dongle that must be inserted before booting the Laptop or Desktop
The link for the recovery key isn’t working for me, what else should I do?
How is it "not working"?
@@askleonotenboom It’s telling me to try a different URL and that nothing could be found at this link
@@All54321 Do you mean this link: account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey ?? That works for me. You DO have to be signed in to your Microsoft account, but it should prompt you to do that when you click.
@@askleonotenboom yeah, that link. And I’m signed in when I click it
@@All54321 I'm at a loss. Are you in the US?
Why would i keep a copy of bitlocker key if i was not aware it is turned on like u say, not even have an idea what the hell is that!! ... lol, but thanks for the great info man! :)
Many people are finding that Bitlocker was turned on without their knowledge.
The address is no longer available.
Which address? I just checked the link in the description and it worked great.
Wh9oooooooo THANK YOU SO MUCH u solved my nightmare
You can't always be that lucky to find your Bitlocker key in your Microsoft account.
If the TPM is enabled on your motherboard, and Bitlocker is enabled in Windows 10,
The Bitlocker key is going to be stored on the TPM chip on the motherboard.
If the motherboard fails, GOODLUCK to access the Bitlocker key and Decrypt your harddrive!
This has happened to me on my Dell XPS laptop.
Both the TPM and Bitlocker were enabled on my laptop without my knowledge.
After 8 months my computer suddenly stopped working, because of a fault on the motherboard.
As part of the warranty Dell replaced the motherboard for me at my place.
But when I turned my computer on, I got the message:
(Your drive is encrypted with Bitlocker, please enter the Bitlocker key by visiting your microsoft account.)
But when I visited my Microsoft account I couldn't find any Bitlocker key!
The only solution for me was to put back the original motherboard and boot my computer to decrypt the harddrive. But when the original motherboard was broken i couldt do that.
The only solution was to format the harddrive and reinstall Windows.
maybe this would have helped if you didn't format the drive already.
Absolutely make sure you've backed up your Recovery Key. You should of course have already done that when you first set up BitLocker, but you will absolutely need it when your motherboard is replaced because the new motherboard's TPM won't have the decryption key for your hard drive. Then you need to delete the existing TPM protector from your Windows partition and create a new one, since that causes Windows to embed a decryption key into the new TPM so you don't have to keep entering that every time you boot your system. If you're even slightly comfortable with command line, you can open an elevated Command Prompt and enter the commands below. If not, you can decrypt and re-encrypt your entire drive, but that will obviously take longer.
Commands:
Manage-bde -protectors -delete c: -type TPM
Manage-bde -protectors -add c: -type TPM
@@johnpeter366 I didn't set up the bitlocker!
The bitlocker was enabled by default on my computer without my knowledge. So I didn't have any chance to take backup of the bitlocker recovery key.
And trust me I tried everything I spend hours talking with Dell support without any solution.
I even tried boots from Ubunto from external memorey key without without any luck.
Damn same thing has happened to me now but Im still finding a way not to lose my data. Please help if you know some way.
@@daisukye Hi! Similar problem here with a Dell laptop too. Had to format C: unit since all my files are on D: I thought I wouldn't have a problem. I was surprise to later know that BitLocker was enabled without my knowledge and since april I don't have access to my files. The recovery key isn't on my Microsoft account and I'm still searching for a solution.
With the amount of similar complaints Microsoft and Dell should be held responsible.
@@CarolCabrita I got a similar problem just few hours ago.
I never set up the Bit locker thing in the first place !
As a matter of fact, I didn't even know there is something called Bitlocker in the first place..
I'm using a Lenovo laptop, it happened to me just when I opened my laptop only to see this pop which won't let me get into the system.
And I don't have the recovery key on my MS account either.
microsoft never saved ANY of my recovery keys so now i cant find it anymore!!
also i was never briefed that I had a bitlocker key now i dont have admin and its a REAL problem with me
Hi Leo 🥺... Sir can you please help me?
I have received a window 11 update month ago and it went all normal. 2 days ago i received an update after it finished the taskbar icons were missing... If i right click on it nothing will happen and the start menu also not appearing
Note: i didn't change the system update settings before receiving the Windows 11 update
If you need screenshots or something I'm right here and super thanks for your content 🤍🤍🤍
Windows 11 doesn't arrive uninvited. Are you running insider preview? I've not yet begun to cover Windows 11 because it's not yet been released - it's in testing only. That means you should have taken a backup taken prior to installing Windows 11, and I'd recommend reverting to that.
@@askleonotenboom Windows insider program is set to "beta" because the system says "recommended"
I tried to uninstall the last update and the results are just the same... The taskbar icons are still not there
I've visited Microsoft websites and i haven't found any working solution
I'm running build 22000160 right now
The build that made the issue was 22000168 (KB5005191)
@@the0thstrike737 The insider program is based on the assumption that its insiders are prepared to handle situations like this when they arise. My recommendation, then, is that you reinstall Windows 10 and perhaps step away from the insiders program.
@@askleonotenboom Alright... Thanks alot Leo 🙏🏻🤍 so grateful
