- Have you ever been so desperate to sew something that you broke down and bought a $20 mini sewing machine? No? Okay, well, I did that and it (mostly) worked out.
The pattern shown in this video can be found here: www.etsy.com/listing/12519372...
(Don't worry, my Wilcox and Gibbs and now working again!)

Surprised. Good to know, I was wondering, because I often am reluctant to haul out my big machine to do small repairs. Do you have a link to where you purchased this $20. Machine?
Yes, this would be very convenient for small repairs. You can find it for sale online at pretty much any large retailer (Amazon, Walmart, etc). Just search for "mini sewing machine". There are versions that come with a bunch of extras and they cost more but you should be able to find the basic model for $20-ish.
I have one of these. I made a bag and a handkerchief. I also use it to do minor repairs on clothes. I am not very good at sewing, but I'm always surprised at how well this thing does. At some point I became a little jealous of other larger machines due to their features and bigger throat, but watching your experiences and the fact that you achieved this is mind boggling and just means my issues come down to skill. I have wondered if adding a hunk of plate steel with rubber feet to the base would prevent it from moving around with heavier fabrics, because the weight is a major problem in my world, as well. Oh, and I added another thread guide next to the arm thing because the threads were cutting into the plastic shell and oer time that might become an issue I guess. I don't know if it was a good idea, but we'll see.
Edit: it died putting panels together for reupholstering a couch. It works nicer after a touch of oil in it and something happened to one of the switches. It's in repair right now.
I am literally in the process of doing the same thing (well, sorta - a Victorian inspired Black Widow cosplay) on a $50 mini machine I got from the Aldi aisle of shame! It's been a real trooper, especially considering I haven't sewn in 20 years and am relearning the basics on top of using a machine not for its intended purposes!
WOW, that really takes a lot of determination! Good luck!
@@ViktoriaAnastasia thanks so much!
I just got an itch to sew a dress (quite a simple idea, just a bunch of frilled tiers to emulate ancient sumerian dress) after not sewing for almost two years and I'm not wanting to break the bank on any sort of "proper" machine... I saw this cute thing on Amazon and went to research it! Lo and behold you've done a stunning thing with it so now I want to try!
I love that swoosh! 😻
I have a similar machine from Wally World. I have to admit, it's amazingly efficient. Quite portable, as well, since machine and accessories all fit nicely into an insulated lunch bag.
Beautiful dress. Well done! Glad you did it. Thank you.
Thank you too!
The dress looks beautiful! What an incredible job! 🥰🥰👏👏👏
P.S. The cats are a cute little bonus for us viewers 😻
It looks awesome❤
You are a genius! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your mini sewing machine. Your Victorian style dress is beautiful; you are so talented and quite amazing. I don't understand why you don't have thousands of likes. Xx 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🤗
You must be magic, this dress turned out so incredibly good!
You are too kind! Thank you
😲Amazing! Congrats 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I have 1 and there like super easy to fix 😊
Hahah that meow was so cutee😍😍
This is amazing! Thank you for posting. What a beautiful dress
WOW. This is impressive. I was expecting something akin to using a long arm stapler and a bottle of Elmer's glue.
Gorgeous results despite the waistband .
Nice job.
That's pretty much that I was expecting, too.
wow this was a great video🎉😊
thank you!
This video made me look up if there were any 20 euro secondhand sewing machines offered in my area. This machine with pink knobs turned up.
Then I widened the search area.
There is a barbie version someone is selling for 15 euros.
I was wondering if i should buy this machine too I heard some negative stuff abt it but your video helped me to decide on weather I should buy it 💗🥰
Well, even if you don't like it, it's not a huge investment. And you can always upgrade in the future!
Haha I got one of these little things to learn... big mistake! It was so loud and pulled so skew I almost gave up... reverse was almost 20 degrees off lol, but got an entry level proper machine and now I really appreciate it
Victorian seamstresses used to apply a pinked taffeta ruffle just above the hem edge to make skirt flare and add rustle to the skirt.

Do you have a link to the 20 dollar sewing machine?
Why are all sewing machines backwards? I know not all people are right handed, but for me a righty, I have to have the heads of my pins inserted on the right. Sew a few stitches, stop pull the pin out from the center of the machine, repeat. I will gladly buy the first machine with the needle on the right side.
5 sewing machines and no printer. Same here! Is it better to claim it's a life style choice? 😅
Top and bottom threads both are right lines. Bobin also works but does not stitch. What types may be reason.
Más más más más quiero más maaaaaaaaassss
It looks nice like your incredible.
I got a question, can a mini sewing machine stitch or sew also mini or soft bags .
Yes, you could use a mini sewing machine for stuff like that. Honestly that's probably what it was intended to be used for.
I absolutely have an older version of this! Lol I've been trying to get it to work but it keeps snapping threads.
I do think it is a little picky about thread. I tried use it with a thinner thread and yeah it was a mess lol
Try hand turning it passing over heavier spots. It will flex under the pressure, but it works for me.
Brans of machine please😊
Did you learn how to sew any where? I want to start to sew Victorian dress too but idk where to start 😢 thank you
I am completely self taught! I learned the hard way through trial and error but I'm pretty sure it's easier to learn nowadays. I've seen several pattern sellers on Etsy that include step by step video instructions with their patterns. I don't think I've seen an entire Victorian dress pattern with instructions like that but some of the fashions are Victorian inspired and that would be a decent place to start. I hope this helps, when I started out I was super frustrated because I had no one to help me. But I was still able to figure it out so it's possible!
How long did this take?
About two weeks.
@@ViktoriaAnastasia Thank you.
