A (Late) Smash Ultimate DLC Prediction, Part 1: First Parties

- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is here--has been for a month and a half now--and yet we still aren't done speculating about the roster! With the Fighter Pass in development now, and only one of its characters accounted for, there's still a lot to cover when it comes to figuring out who might still join the fight!
For Part 1 of 2, we're going to talk about the 1st party characters who are worth keeping an eye on for the coming year. I hesitate to lock anyone in since we saw with Smash 4 how many twists and turns DLC can make, but there're several potential newcomers from Nintendo who are worth talking about nonetheless. Tune in and see why the "bottom of the barrel" talk is off the mark!

Bandana Dee is a character I really like but I've sort of lost hope for him. I don't think Spirits are necessarily a "deconfirm" but... the way they handled him in Spirits leaves me doubtful.
Unlike pretty much every other highly requested character (who was included in the game at all) his spirit wasn't even revealed ahead of time and he doesn't even have a Spirit battle, they put him in as an enhancement of the Waddle Dee Spirit. It almost feels like they agreed with the "He's just a hat Goomba" narrative and just don't care about him at all.
And on top of that the way Kirby as a series has been treated in Smash leaves me even more doubtful. It feels like the Kirby games that Sakurai directed are the only ones that matter in Smash. Ultimate did better in this regard than previous games, like FINALLY making Masked Dedede a Final Smash and a better selection of music from the modern games, but it still feels like they're treating Sakurai's Kirby games as the more important side. The new Kirby remixes were from Kirby Air Ride and Kirby's Dream Land, and the new boss was Marx from Super Star instead of say Zero or Magolor.
I don't want to call bias but it feels way too coincidental how his games keep getting more important content and the rest of the series just gets scraps.
As for the bias thing, Bandana Waddle Dee was in Sakurai's Kirby Super Star within the Megaton Punch mode. This make him Sakurai's character.
Bandana Dee would be extremely easy too add, they already have Waddle Dee models in the game, and I'm pretty sure Chrom's model is a slightly altered version of his Sm4sh one
@@TripleJump He didn't really become a bigger character until Ultra and RTD. If anything, him having a minor role in Skaurai's game might mean that's just how he sees him, as an insignificant side character
nintendo is picking the dlc though so it could get rid of the whole sakurai bias thing

Honestly, I have never been that big a fan of Bandana Dee, mostly because I did not quite see his potential. I mean, sure he can poke stuff with a spear, but I didn't feel like that was unique enough.
BUT NOW. You brought up all the things Waddle Dees have done throughout all of Kirby, and even Waddle Doos. Wield a parasol. Fire beam attacks. Hell, even throw in something from Kirby 64's Waddle Dee. I can see it now how he can be a great character, and now I am excited.

Have you ever actually played the games he's in? Bandana Dee can utilize his spear in a lot of unique ways. Spin it like a helicopter and fly while trapping enemies, charge up and throw 3 at once, use elemental spears like fire, ice, electricity, water, etc.

Lol, the spear is totally more unique than sword fighter #50000. Well even without the other Waddle Dee tools, BanDee canonically wields a parasol (which uses the water element).
I do enjoy the swordfighters though....

They do have more than just their neutral special. Sadly, they still seem to have an incomplete moveset-- only possessing neutral, down, and side specials alongside forward smash.

In a different Common Thread, I suggested several other characters from mother that would also work pretty well. I think those would work, instead of our favorite Pig King.

Even though I don't think Edelgard will come as DLC, I'm glad you didn't show dislike for Fire Emblem as a whole like other people do in potential DLC videos.
In my Smash Ultimate Newcomer series that I have done since last year I have talked about numerous Fire Emblem characters. I think about 9. Ranging from Edelgard and Dimitri to Alm and Celica. And I still am going to do two videos on Heroes soon, Fjorm and Hel.

I'm sorry but I don't think we'll see a single Nintendo character in the Fighter Pass. All the heavy requested characters are Assist and Mii Costumes, so all that's left are the ones people aren't really caring for which doesn't seem like would be a good fit as DLC. We're paying for 5 characters at half the price of the original game, they're gonna need to be really special in order to be worth the price. I like Bandana Waddle Dee but I think he should've been in the base game, it will be hard to convince people to pay $6 for him.

So if they were to add Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising (just an example) and he had a completely unique moveset, remixed music, and a dope stage it wouldn't be worth it just because Nintendo owns the character? I get hype in all but we shouldn't just expect for third party characters just because Nintendo doesn't own them.
Hunter Wynn I see where you are coming from but I respectfully disagree.
There are some heavily requested characters that aren’t assist trophies or Mii costumes, like Geno, Paper Mario, Dixie Kong, etc.
Plus, who said that Nintendo characters are a tough sell? I mean, Corrin was DLC in Smash 4 and they’re only from one game in the entire Fire Emblem series which at the time was the most recent.
People were still interested in Corrin despite being from a franchise that people feel is already over represented in Smash.
Heck, Piranha Plant is a DLC character for THIS game. If people can get interested (myself included) in seeing what a common enemy from Mario can bring as a full blown playable character, I don’t see how any other character would have any issue grabbing peoples attention.
@Cyanize I'm not saying that first party characters are low value when compare to third party characters, I'm saying the available first party characters that weren't turn into Assist and Mii Costumes aren't exciting to be part of DLC. I like Hades but majority of the Smash community don't want another Kid Icarus character, hell when Bayonetta was reveal most people acted disappointed in the beginning because they thought the last DLC characters was from Kid Icarus. With the first party characters they have left to use they're not that exciting or heavily requested from the community so they won't feel right as DLC. I want more first party characters in Smash Bros but they just deconfirmed 18 characters that I would've liked to see. Hard to get excited with what they have left, especially if Piranha Plant is any indication of the first party problem.

Being completely honest, if we get another Gen 7 Pokemon as DLC, while Lycanroc does make alot of sense with being this generation's version of Ash-Greninja, I'd also love to see Nihilego.
Ultra Beasts and Ultra Space were a MASSIVE part of the story of the Gen 7 games, and Nihilego was a major plotpoint for the main villain, Lusamine's, storyline. Being the first Ultra Beast revealed.
Nihilego could be a floating character, similar to Rosalina, who would use poison and rock type attacks such as Venoshock, Power Gem, etc. With final smash ideas including a Poison type Z-Move, an attack bringing in all the other Ultra Beasts, etc.
Also, if we do get a BoTW Champion in Smash, I'd rather we got Mipha.
Prior to the game's launch, when we were shown new bosses like Dracula and Rathalos, I was _really_ hoping for a Pokémon boss, specifically an Ultra Beast.
Why didn't you mention Porky?
He's the only boss from subspace who isn't in the game in any way (I know some smartass is gonna point out the absolutely safe capsule, but the capsule itself has a different sprite when Porky enters it, and the sprite used is the one from before Porky enters it), He's one of two recurring villains in the Mother series, he was prominent on the ballot (/v voted him 6th most wanted newcomer), and it's approaching MOTHER's 30th anniversary.

Lamp Cannibal I think it’s more likely that Porky will be added as a Boss character in a free update down the road. I don’t think the EarthBound series is large enough to get a DLC character.
Bob McCabe maybe, but then again, Fire Emblem isn’t that big of a series either, and yet that hasn’t stopped it from flooding the roster

Porky is already a boss. As much as I'd like him to be in, he won't be. there's another comment thread in which I suggested several other characters from mother. I think those are better picks.
@vsmith smith Porky was a boss in Brawl and is not a boss or a spirit in Ultimate. And before you say it, the Absolute Safe Capsule spirit is the empty sprite of it, so Porky isn't in that capsule. kiss my ass troll.

I want him as his mother 3 form. like a minature version of it. I''ve seen some screenshots of a Project M mod in progress where Porky is in the machine and he's the size of like ridley or bowser. While mother isn't relevant anymore I do want to at least see some more characters become assist trophies or items. I mean we have Jeff, the starman, mr. saturn. AND THE RAMBLIN MUSHROOM. Sorry I just loved it when I saw that item on the nintendo page before the game came out.
That and the fact that like Giegue/Giygas, he doesn't have any spirit...
I'm pretty sure one of these two would be in. I would prefer a fusion between Giegue/Giygas but Porky would be nice as well

I'd also love for Midna to be in but she's caught in assist trophy hell like many other great characters.
I feel like Cooking Mama is a character that has a lot of potential, lots of people seem to have forgotten about her though
I would like to add a couple of things going on for Elma that might encourage people to keep an eye on her.
-The strange omission of Xenoblade X music from the base game when minor titles like Code Name Steam got some tracks, especially when Xenoblade 2 got 3 pieces. And "licensing issues" isn't a thing because Nintendo had no problem adding 2 songs from X into 2 as DLC.
-Xenoblade X is one of the very few games that has Spirits in Smash but isn't listed as a source for said Spirits in the game files. Mind you that they even listed Hey Pikmin which only has 1 Spirit, and this might suggest that they were a late inclusion.
-How Sakurai gave a reason for not having Rex in the game, blaming timing, yet not saying anything about Elma/Xenoblade X content which was in the perfect timing, being released a couple months after Fates in Japan and in December in the West, the same month as the project plan for Ultimate was done.
-According to several past datamines of Xenoblade 2, Elma WASN'T planned from the start to be a playable DLC Blade, and in that game a NPC says that "everyone dreams of seeing Elma and Shulk in the same place" while they exclude Rex from the picture. And she has a mission were they hint at several unanswered questions from X. It's also interesting that Elma's announcement was treated as a big deal, by having her with a standalone trailer (not even Shulk or Fiora got one) and she was one of Nintendo's big announcements at Gamescom, which is basically the European E3.
-Xenoblade 2 was finished in 2017, and a smaller team started working on the DLC for it. Takahashi, the Xenoblade producer and writer, has stated that he wants to make X2, and considering how it ended on a cliffhanger it is very likely that it will feature Elma once again, so it might have been in the works since then (the new medival IP os being made by another studio, because Monolith has one in Kyoto and one in Tokyo for those who doesn't know), making Elma viable even as a promotional character while still not being completely unknown since she already has a game to base her moveset and appereance on, just like how they did with the Inklings, who were based on Splatoon 1 while 2 was in the works. And a port of X is inevitable at this point, so she might promote that while they are working on X2 in the meantime.
Considering all of this I would put her in the plausible category.
With that sayd I really appreciate that people are at least recognizing that Elma has a chance. I've seen way too many poeple just saying "Rex and Pyra or nothing" and that really bothers me when there is another viable candidate from the Xenoblade series.
I still remember going nuts over the Gamescom Trailer for Elmas Inclusion in XC2, when they showed it on the Nintendo Battle Stage. I even encountered some other people who were massive XCX fans :D
I really hope she makes it into the Fighters Pass. She is like the one possible character that ive been hyped up for since 2015. It really sucked that we couldnt vote for her in the Smash Ballot, because her game basically released after it ended. Also i really really really want the Xenoblade X Soundtrack to be represented in the game, because Hiroyuki Sawano is a god.
That said, ive come to terms with the fact that her possibility is slim, but i am still hopeful and use every opportunity to make my hype for her vocal. I mean after all that is a way of getting people to either play XCX or to at least look into her character concept! (Although it would be much easier if there was a switch port)
The one issue is that they already said there will be NO port of X and gave a specific reason lack of funding from Nintendo, it would cost nearly the same as a new game due to all the reworking that needs to be done as it was a game with reliance on the gamepad.
They could be making X2 but there's no port coming any time close to soon
@@elemomnialpha They never said that. They only stated that doing a port would be costly, but that could even be just PR talk (they can't outright confirm or deny it). So far every single Wii U port outsold the original release by a long shot, and Nintendo surely doesn't want to sleep on the success of the series, and porting X would be much easier than the original since it is already in HD.
Finally, while X used the Gamepad, it still was fully playable in Off TV mode, so it isn't nearly as hard to port as belived.
@@elemomnialpha they didnt quite say there will be no port, but that it is a challenge to create one, and that there is quite some funding needed. But if the money they made through XC2 or Torna is enough, if a port is definitely impossible to arrive in the next months or the fact there will be a X2 is not mentioned in the interview as far as i read it.
For Elma - something that feels notable is the lack of Xenoblade X music in Smash, since one of the things each fighter comes with is music. I'd have expected some Xenoblade X music, either in the base game or along with the Rex mii costume fighter pass bonus's Xenoblade 2 tunes. I don't think she'll be there, but... That weird omission might be an indicator that something Xenoblade X is coming (or could be nothing)
Gizensha Fox I really hope Elma makes it in even though I doubt it. It honestly feels like a crime that uncontrollable isn’t a battle theme in smash
@@michelleadkins8854 I'd settle for just Black Tar and the New Los Angeles themes. Songs with lyrics in video games are, 99% of the time so cheesy and I love them, the Xenoblade X soundtracks are no exception.

This is kind of my argument to why they may be adding a new Final Fantasy character. You're gong to tell me, out of the perhaps THOUSANDS of Final Fantasy songs, you're still only going to have two in the game? Come on, Square and Nintendo are on good terms what with all the remakes being ported to the Switch and Octopath Traveller hitting it as big as it did. Adding in music definitely doesn't take nearly as much time as in adding a whole new character. I find it highly suspect that FF still has only two songs.
@@InfinityImplosion I've heard the issue with FF music is that Square doesn't own the right to it, the composers themselves do, so it's harder to secure the rights to them because there are more costs and more hoops to jump through. (That doesn't explain the lack of FF spirits, but still...)
I do believe Phoenix Wright could work as a fighter.
He can have his classic finger point as his side tilt and his side smash could include a HOLD IT! OBJECTION! or TAKE THAT! depending on how long it's charged.
His down special could be him opening the court record to pull out the murder weapon (likely a knife or a gun) as evidence.
The anime and SoJ has basically turned the lawyers into airbenders, so Phoenix sending out shockwaves as a projectile neutral or Side-B isn't too hard to immagine.
His Final Smash could be the thinking sessions from DD and SoJ with the different options being effects he can add to the attack, or he could just get aided by Apollo and Athena for the tripple point at the end of DD.
As for costume options, there are already quite a few potential ones. There's his standard blue suit, in either the original trilogy format or the DD/SoJ redesign (having both might be a bad idea since they'd be a bit hard to tell apart), the outfit he wore during Apollo Justice, the outfit he wore during the flashback in T&T, an outfit that makes him look like Furio Tigre a black outfit and a new hairstyle to look like Ryūnosuke Naruhodō and a red suit resembling Edgeworth's.
Alternatively, Apollo Justice also has a lot of potential, his ability to read the tension of others is just begging to be made into a counter, and Phoenix could still show up in his final smash, taunts or victory poses.
Hey, if he worked in Marvel vs Capcom 3, he can work in Smash.

Elma for Smash. It'll net us a gorgeous stage and kick ass music, as well as a character showing the more flashy part of Xenoblade X.
I do think a Gen 8 Pokemon has a chance. For Greninja, Sakurai made a moveset and design using only concept art.

If they did another Gen 7 Pokemon, they could put Decidueye in like they were originally going. If older, maybe Sceptile or Krookodile
It would be cool to have each pokemon represent their own Gen. We already have Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Kalos, and Alola. It would be cool for Sceptile to be a gen 3 representation, Krookadile would sound cool also for gen 5.

Did Nintendo ever say that DLC Pack 1 would only be 3rd party? Seems like a lot of people think so, but I dunno. Either way, I think you're one of the best, most rational people in the Smash community. Keep up the good work!

All of Smash 4's DLC newcomers were 3rd party aside from Corrin, a promotional pick that was decided late (based on when param data got added).
It's more just basic logic built off of precedence that DLC will exclusively be 3rd parties with maybe a 1st party promotional pick or two mixed in.
BarrierTrioStruckAPose Personally I think they're gonna even It out, two more third, two more first. Since counting Piranha Plant wed having three first parties and three third parties. It's equally balanced as all things should be.

As always, I ADORE the visual work that goes into these. However, source on that 'spirit picks were decided long ago' thing? Judging on how the Masked Man spirit art is a literal fan edit (proved by the shine on his helmet), and the team thus literally got pngs off google, I highly doubt this was the case. You could argue that scenarios and World of Light placement had to be planned, but really, they could toss in pretty much anyone since the spirits are in mostly a nonsense location and spirit battles are just taped-together series of special conditions. Additionally, all of the spirits that people cite to try and debunk the deconfirmation argument are always alternate forms of the characters. They are never the characters themselves, and if you simply took a spirit out, it would remove a battle from Singleplayer.
I really want a Rhythm Heaven character, though... I have no idea why the three tracks they chose were among the worst in the series, and I think they could be a combination fighter dubbed "RHYTHM HEAVEN" that has every attack utilizing a different minigame character.

I'm also a bit surprised that my boy *Bandana Dee* didn't get into the base game. Him being a frontrunner in both your and my eyes makes me hopeful, since he's my most wanted character for DLC.
I don't really know anything about Fire Emblem, but as long as we get a character with a unique moveset, I don't care if we get another fighter from there. And since *Edelgard* has an axe, we should be in the clear there.
For I while, I was quite conflicted about *Paper Mario,* because having a third instance of Mario kind of bothers me (I'm already not keen on the Doc). Unlike with Link, Mario is always the same character (yes, I've played Paper Jam, and yes he's separate in that game, but he's still just Mario in the Paper Mario-games).
I'm not saying I only want them to pull from the first three games since I loathe the newest two, but I'm afraid that they'd only pull from the games that represent the current series (like having a paint-mechanic). I'm fully on-board with pulling from all of the games.
However, I still opt for giving Mario (and Luigi) some damn hammer-moves already.
I can see them putting in either Paper Mario or Geno. I just think their collective chance as "either or" is very high.
*Dixie Kong* would really complete the Kong-trio, was considered before and is really beloved.

Yeah, I don't really know or care about *Rhythm Heaven* either, but it is a 1st party IP and has quite some fans. I am surprised that the series hasn't at least got a stage yet.
While I'm personally more of a fan of the idea of Rex and Pyra/Mythra, *Elma* seems a nice character as well. And with how much attention Yenoblade's been getting, I think it's only reasonable to have someone other than Shulk playable.
Dual weapons is also a super-cool weapon-concept if you ask me. I've wanted Ganondorf to wield dual blades like in Wind Waker and Hyrule Warriors for ages now...

Same as with Fire Emblem and Rhythm Heaven: I don't really care much for Pokémon (though I really wanted Decidueye over Incineroar... bummer) but Lycanroc is unique and I really liek the idea of an earthbender (as opposed to the same ol' three types the startes offer). However, I do think they're less likely to put in another Pokémon as opposed to Donkey Kong or Fire Emblem.
The Champions from Breath of the Wild are a single instance, so I think the chances of them just specifically picking one of the four are very slim. *Revali* is a good pick, but so are the others, I feel like. And still, I really want to see more Zelda-characters, seeing as the last newcomer was Toon Link, or even Zelda/Shiek if you want one with a wholly unique moveset...
I'm just a little sad that Ganon is a boss and Final Smash already, since he's been in the series ever since the first game. Sure, him and Ganondorf are the same being, but Ganon has so many games to pull from that I feel like he should be more than what he is.
Then there's also Impa but she could either make a unique fighter but also just be a semi-clone or an echo of Sheik. (If I were Sakurai, I would've just replaced Sheik with Impa back when they separeated the two in Smash 4.)
EDIT: I've skimmed through the comments a bit and just saw the name Kass mentionened and it clicked for me. He's not part of a group whose member are on equal levels but still a very beloved character from Breath of the Wild.
As for *Captain Toad,* I still think they should just go with regular Toad instead.
Some more Echos would be nice too.
Generally, I just hope they don't overdo it with 3rd parties this time around. Smash 4 was a bit too much, if you ask me.

If we're talkin Earthbound reps, I'd pick Poo, Ninten, Claus, or Kumatora Ninten simply to complete the collection of protagonists, and the others because their styles are all unique. (Poo is the only dedicated swordfighter, Kumatora is the only dedicated fistfighter, Claus is a nice mix of Sword and Gunner, with some flight abilities, not to mention PSI.) Point being, we need more reps in the Mother series, because the series is comically under-represented. However, Porky will not work.

Anybody think vaati is likely as his spirit's appearance is the one from 4 swords/4 swords adventure, and not the humanoid form that was seen in the minish cap and be the most likely for a fighter. It might also make sense why they missed a perfectly good enhanceable spirit option. Vaati evolving into vaati reborn would be amazing. There's a breath of the wild zelda spirit, so I don't think vaati is too far fetched.
I think Sakurai dislike the Zelda franchise which makes sense that we did not receive a unique Zelda character. Since Skull Kid And Ghirahim are Assist Trophies, Vaati would be a cool villain rep after Ganondorf, and he would be a fun, unique magic character. I don’t want to get my expectations high, Vaati might be possible( but not very high,but possible) giving him a chance of 50%. I rather have Vaati than any Warriors character(Volga would be a pretty cool character). Many delusional people wants a minor spin-off character like Linkle, who is just a minor side character who doesn’t have any importance and doesn’t have her own mainline game. She would be a filler to be added in smash, making her a cheap, ripoff version of link. Lana/Cia Outfit is inappropriate and would make people cringe to see them and would not be in smash. My other 2 beloved Zelda characters I want but they are spirits which are Marin( I love her HW design and she is hot😍😍😍😍) And My Big, Thick boy Groose. Imagine if Groose has the same movesets and speed as Captain Falcon, but has the strength as Ganondorf. He would have the same spike as Ganondorf. Groose would be a weird, wacky but a fun character and would be a perfect troll character than tingle. In conclusion, the only possible Zelda character for DLC is Vaati.
I wouldn't say likely, I'm still in disbelief about the state of Ganondorf and the lack of a genuine LoZ newcomer since Melee.
Vaati is definitely too easily dismissed as a potential newcomer among the speculation. I can see him as a legitimate possibility and would definitely support his inclusion.
Even while I'll always hold that lone candle for Vaati, a character I would really enjoy seeing make it into the game is Captain Syrup. She'd give the Wario Land series some much needed love, and I would absolutely adore a Shake It stage. Imagine fighting at Glittertown or Neon City, where spotlights would reveal the platforms you're fighting on, and water spouts acted as temporary platforms.

unfortunately for my tastes, i really feel like third parties are going to make up all if not most of the dlc slots. none of the super likely or super popular third parties are the third parties id most want, i like popular first party picks though
lilly g remember, just because their popular or considered “likely” within the smash community doesn’t mean they are guaranteed. Nobody was asking for/was expecting Cloud, Ryu, or Joker but yet they made it in. If anything I would put less credibility in characters like Banjo, Sora, or Geno just because Nintendo has subverted our expectations time and time again.

I don't think we should count Rex out entirely. Sure, we got a Mii Costume, but don't forget, there several Mii Costumes of already playable characters in the base game, and I think Sakurai may have gave us the Rex costume to tide us over until he can implement the actual character. Just something to think about.
And I think we will be getting multiple waves of DLC fighters, since for one thing, many fighting games are doing that, such as Street Fighter V (yeah, bad example, but there it is), Tekken 7, King of Fighters XIV, Dragonball FighterZ, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat X, and so many others. The other is that a datamine showed there are 16 dummy slots in World of Light, and one of the being preoccupied as of recent is for Piranha Plant. That said, we can definitely go deep into DLC. And when talking about characters promoting other games, a couple I think have kind of a shot are the main characters of the upcoming game, Astral Chain.

While Rhythm Heaven could be fun, the lack of a true frontline character is really imo what kills its hopes. Not in the sense of representation but that each character has its own limited abilities in the minigames, so one using someone else's could just be too jarring.
BotW needs a rep. It was a huge hit, beloved by just about anyone who even set their eyes on it, Nintendo seem to love it, it's a shame that the only character reference is changing up Link a little. I know I'm arbitrating but come on, you can't tell me the newest Zelda can be overlooked.
While the champions are good, I lile to think there's a chance for our favourite accordion-weilding oiseau. Since DK losto the bongos as a FS, the whole AoE music ripple idea could still come back. The idea of using tunes and notes as projectiles or wide hitbox attacks must be tempting. Yeah there's not much to them specifically to work with, which is definitely a massive drawback and effectively makes this purely the dream of someone who just wants to see their bird in the highest quality for a reveal trailer. However; if Kass could use abilities and items found around Rito villages or camps, given his frequency there and his... being a bird... this could stretch out the moveset longer than his instrument hooked between two charging Lynels.

i really enjoyed watching this, it very nice to get someone break down how they and other people pick their fighter for the DLC and setting guidelines on how the decisions where made.
6:52 However, it's not actually like DLC *only just* started conceptualising. It's been underway since, if interviews are correct (which admittedly Pikmin 4 is making a little more ambiguous than usual), before the game came out: pretty standard practice. Why would the devs come up with a way to represent a character with the tools currently available if they were going to include them later on? As much as some spirits make me annoyed they're not playable (Panther Caroso, Rayman, etc), I don't have high hopes. It seems like locking away your stuff in a chest, then putting that chest in a safe - extra unecessary work, especially in terms of unlocking.
Obviously nothing's for certain, but this is just my hunch.
Sakurai outright said everybody got locked in during November, with some characters almost certainly decided earlier than others.

As much as it hurts me to say, I do think spirits are a deconfirmatiton. My main reasoning is Piranha Plant, he’s a DLC character and isn’t a spirit. In fact, there’s a Nipper Plant spirit that turns into Petey Piranha, if spirits mean nothing, why not have Piranha Plant in there, as he makes more sense as an enhanceable version instead of Nipper? There’s plenty of images of PP they could've used. As someone who wants Bandana Dee more than any other single character combined, I still think that spirits are a sign that they won’t be in. Just my opinion though, and as said I really want to be wrong.
Dude, spirits are basically the trophies of this game, and even then, there’s a thousand spirits, Sakurai wouldn’t want our choices for newcomers to be limited because he loves it when we get surprised and excited from shocking picks. So no, they do not deconfirm.
This is like saying that trophies deconfirm a character. Obviously not true. the reason piranha plant is not a spirit in the base game, is because that Spirit comes with the DLC. I know, because I just recently got the DLC and read the information on it.
I think spirits deconfirm characters for now, but they're fair game for a potential DLC pack 2.
To be fair, Piranha Plant was planned long before the Fighter Pass characters, but they just couldn't get him into the game in time for base. It's touchy

Okay, okay, but Mother's 30th anniversary, I think? Porky is a villain, and was a boss in brawl, and is a current no-show in ultimate. Not to mention the Chinese Zodiac (Year of the Pig). His mech and boss fights across multiple games provides well enough source material to design a character off of. He's come down with "Ridley Syndrome" in a sense, but not quite to the same level.
I believe it would happen in the same way as Isabelle. They announce the character, and then annouce some form of Earthbound Series Remastered, or the coveted Mother 3 Localization. (Hopefully both at once as a trilogy.)
I would prefer Giegue/Giygas, but that would be nice

Vaati from Zelda. He's basically the second biggest antagonist and doesn't have his human form as a spirit. He'd have a cool mage like moveset that we don't really have in the game. I'd love one third party DLC pack and then another for first party, so more people can have a chance to shine.

Classic mode grants you a fighter spirit.
Rock Mario is just a forme, not actually Mario. Mario only has a fighter spirit. He doesn't have a normal spirit.
Piranha Plant and Joker don't have spirits. This is because they need them for classic mode.
This deconfirms anyone with a spirit. If Bandana Dee has a spirit, he can't get a fighter spirit. They can't remove his normal spirit, either, just like they can't remove assist trophies.
Disagree. They would be heavily limiting themselves with a move like, and that is a quick jump isn't it? Just becauae they have spirits doesn't mean their done for outright. Don't forget that those Moi Costumes exist and Chrom with Robin as well.

Imo, Karate Joe would be the better rep since he's the first rhythm game character and he's so iconic that he's the final rhythm game in all others!
I'm not too optimistic since it would basically mean having a bpm set to each music of the game and fixing the timing with the attacks and could really take a lot of work, especially with so much music this game has to offer!
But I'm still hopeful and I agree with your ideas. Also, there's what you've mentionned in Rhythm Heaven and their called "Remixes"! So basically, they could just do an endless remix that switches between diferent rhythm games that are on-rhythm with the music playing, this would be so cool! Here's some ideas I had:
- Farmer Crop: Every two beats, the ground shakes and there's automatic scrolling. Walk-off blast zones.
- See-Saw: A see-saw is at the middle and puts players into the air. See & Saw don't have hit-boxes so you can play on it as you want. Walk-off blast zones.
- Night-Walk: Automatic scrolling. Akin to more traditional "platforming" stages but Play-Yan is at the left end and jumps in rhythm, opening boxes. Dodge the electric fishes and don't fall down to your doom! Spawning area would be safe of holes of course!
- Fruit Basket: Walk-off blast zones. Plays like the normal rhythm game as well but if you are at the middle when the ground ejects a fruit, you'll fly in the air depending how close to the center you are! Might even K.O. you if you are close to high percents!
Also, for Paper Mario, a cool idea would be that charging smash attacks too much would result in a "MISS" like in his games where the end of his hammer fall off and his hit doesn't connect so you cannot charge indefinitely, this would totally add an unique gimmick to smash imo! Also, he need a tattle move like Snake and Palutena have!! And his perfect shielding could be a little counter like in Thousand Year Door!!

I really want to see Emboar in Smash. I think Emboar and Dewott have the most potential for the next Pokémon Smash character, other than gen 8. He doesn't have a spirit, nor is he summon-able (at least to my knowledge). He can also have a very diverse move set. Up-special can be Heat Crash, to where it works a lot like King Dedede's recovery that isn't his jump. Side special could be Smack Down, to where it will also bring the hit character down to the ground, and if the hit character is off the edge, then they will be spiked. Neutral-Special could be Focus Punch, to where it would charge until fully charged then you could unleash this devastating attack. Down-Special could be Sucker Punch, as a counter. Up-Smash could be Headbutt (even though Emboar can't actually learn it, I feel that it would be better than Head Smash.) and it would work a lot like Mario's Up-Smash. Side-Smash could be Fire Punch. Neutral-Smash (or Jab), would be Arm Thrust. Down-Smash could be Low Sweep. Low Sweep could trip anyone who was hit.
I really want Emboar in Smash, and not only would he be awesome, but he would be the only playable Gen-5 representative. Even the Pokémon Trainer doesn't have a skin for Gen-5! So yeah, my top pick would be Emboar.

Down B: paper Mario goes completely flat and if an opponent tries to slice this paper pancake, he goes back to normal immediately for a quick punish.(like a simpler parry)
Up B: paper airplane, (pretty easy choice,) it gains a lot of immediate height from the start, and can be angled, and like most recoveries, is extremely punishable.

I want anyone who isn't another boring human character, if you don't know who they are they just get put in right in the "generic anime sword fighter guy" slot in your mind, which is why I want unique characters like rayman or crash or banjo, or spyro who have a unique vibrant look that stands out
Have you already written your list of Third Parties? Because I am compiling a small list of potential Third Parties listed by companies who have been known to help the Switch. It might help you if you haven't completed your list (note that I avoid adding conditional fighters to the list) :
Bandai Namco :
A Tales rep. I'd say that, right now, Yuri currently has a better shot at Smash than Lloyd due to the release of Vesperia's Definitive Edition on Switch. Though he's a swordsman like many other fighters (and so are pretty much all Tales protagonists).
Capcom :
The Monster Hunter. To be precise, a representation of the player character just like what MvCI did. After all, Rathalos is already in the game, so all that's left is to include the Monster Hunter as a fighter (with Rathalos as an obvious Classic Mode Final Boss).
Id Software :
Doomguy. His game is already on the Switch and the sequel is confirmed to come to the Switch as well.
Koei Tecmo : Not only has Koei Tecmo already done two Warriors versions of Nintendo series, other recent mainline Warriors games are being released on the Switch (with DW 8 XL being the most recent).
Ryu Hayabusa. Ninja Gaiden made it's big debut on the NES, so it will be a good way for Koei Tecmo to do things based on the old games like music and having Ryu climb on walls.
A DW character. Either poster boy Zhao Yun or menacing symbol of fear Lu Bu. Though Lu Bu will have to be banned from online matches from day one. They don't say "do not pursue" for nothing, you know?
Square Enix :
The Slime from Dragon Quest. The difference between FF protagonists and the average DQ protagonist is that the latter tend to lack character, as they are meant to be a projection of the player (in other words, they're mute heroes meant to help the player "get in"). And the Slime serves as the mascot of the franchise. Besides, if a plant can get in Smash, then so can a drop-shaped slime.
Geno. He appeared in a Mario game that Square worked on. This already gives him plenty of chances to get in.
Sephiroth. If Square Enix wants to keep it to FFVII, then it can only be him. Besides, that would mean getting One-Winged Angel in Smash.

I managed to guess Revali before you revealed it. On a different note, indie Smashlike game _Rivals of Aether_ has an eagle named Wrastor. He has multiple air jumps (a la Kirby) and can charge Smash attacks in midair (they're actually restricted to midair use only).
but i agree speculation is fine but I believe we need to calm ourselves down a bit and not hash at each other over something stupid like "if spirits deconfirm dlc" or "if western 3rd parties can join or not", debates are fine but harassment is no good like sonic would say.

Rex is also the reason why Elma exists in XC2 as well as the fact that his world is parallel to Shulks. Therefore Rex should have the priority advantage here over Elma who is in some sidestory game and furthermore, is not a main character.

No it isn't. There's no way in the game's timeline could it fit with xc2's story
Cake# Actually there is, and it's the same reason for Shulk and Fiora: It's after the events of their respective games and as Elma explains she bought a training simulation program off of the Nopon Archsage which actually was a transporter device thing to the challenge we obtain her.
For Shulk and Fiora they simply also get time traveled to the end of their game to chapter four or Xenoblade 2 while the events of Xenoblade 1 that happen during that time still are happening with Shulk and Fiora and what not since these two are from the future. As for why they can summon their weapons? Nopon Archsage bullshittery/something to do with them becoming blades.
@@BulletBillSoilder Although Shulk and Fiora are after the events xc1, Elma never specified what time she's from. But I'd say this is not end game Elma just because she looks human instead of her *ahem* "Bootleg KosMos form".
Also this brings host of new questions. So if Shulk and Elma are canon then that means they've met the architect. Also that means Shulk and Fiora have been in Rex's gang since chapter 3. I just can't see it.
King boo might be a DLC because if the DLC will be finished in 2020 and lm3 (Luigi's Mansion 3) is RELISESING this year
idk if this was already said, but Edelgard seems to be Byleth's tutor, you can see in the trailer that Byleth can ask Edelgard for axe or sword lessons, so they could easily be echo's of each other (or not to occupy another slot, maybe be like olimar and alph... i guess)

My heart would be shattered if they added Paper Mario but his moveset was based off of Sticker Star and Color Splash.
Didn’t they say something along the lines of the dlc characters are going to be series firsts, meaning all of them are going to be from series that haven’t been in smash before? (Excluding piranha plant he’s not really one of them)
