Honestly seeing all the stuff with this really makes me hope that if Shin Kamen Rider ever gets a Blu-Ray release that either Cleopatra stay far away from this with a 10ft pole or they just get people that actually care and know what they’re doing like Discotek for it
6:59 So from what I've heard in regards to Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman the English logo for both of them was hand written by Shinji Higuchi which makes sense since he was a director for both. Shin Kamen Rider's constant English Logo change is a mystery
Out of curiosity, what was wrong with all the sets you showed off at the beginning of the video? So if I plan on getting Shin Ultraman at a later date, the ones out by then should be the correct version right?
The Ghost in the Shell set in particular has this weird issue (that I don't think was ever resolved with a reissue) of the audio randomly changing from dub to Japanese. I'm dead serious. It's why people recommend to buy their old DVD sets of GITS.
GitS Stand Alone Complex has dubtitles and audio issues, TMNT 87 was a cursed release of mixed up/missing episodes and too many volumes, Terminator 2 4K is an upscale of the 3D version, YGO Dark Side of Dimensions had dubtitles, aspect ratio issues and missing music, Power Rangers Super Samurai was missing 2 episodes and was released first without Samurai so it sold poorly. These all honestly deserve their own video... If you wait about a month, the corrections should be out there. Apparently they will have a sticker on the front to designate the corrected copies.
5:01 ouch . I actually have gits Blu Ray from Walmart ( haven't seen the menu but I've heard the issues) and the DVD collection from the old Bandai entertainment USA via my Walmart in 2020 . But how's the movie on digital outlets like Amazon prime, Vudu app?
The saddest thing is that subtitles aren’t that hard. They’re literally just a text files that need to be muxed into the video file. I do think the video artifact on the corner is a way to track a print. Probably shouldn’t have been included, but I’m not going to worry about one frame.
Ah yes, The Exchange did such a _great job_ of distributing the movie that its one and only screening in my country was a three-day stint at a film festival, in another state, during one of the busiest weeks of my life. 🙃 I was lucky enough to see Shin Godzilla twice during its brief run here, and even got to see Shin Evangelion at IMAX. Shin Ultraman though? Naaaaaaah... Shin Rider? Def naaaaaaaaah... Oh well, 2 out of 4 still counts as a win! In regards to the upcoming Madman release, it's a real coin-toss as to whether it will be an "original" release, or just a repackaged version of the Cleopatra disc. The vast majority of their Asian media titles are actually sub-licensed, and as such usually just reuse existing assets, most commonly from American distributors. That said, I will definitely update this post/post in the Discord channel when I get my hands on a copy! No sense in people wasting their money on yet another (potentially) lazy release. EDIT 1: Of course, right as I post this, I see that my favourite indie theatre has announced that they'll be screening Shin Ultraman at the end of next month...😤 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!✊
I'll take your advice and see how the overseas editions fare. Such a shame that Cleopatra couldn't do the bare minimum of an accurate presentation. I don't expect extras at this point the dubtitles is downright inexcusable.
Both have dubtitles instead of proper subtitles for their Japanese audio. Yu-Gi-Oh also has an aspect ratio issues. Ghost in the Shell also features no chapter markers, and the English dub will randomly cut to Japanese audio at times
Just started watching the video. What's the issue with the Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions Blu-ray? Already bought a copy and was planning to watch it, but with Japanese audio and English subs.
The original release was dubtitles too. They latter corrected and gave it proper subtitles after fan backlash. The U.S release didn't get the rights to the Japanese ED "To Believe In Something" by Eden House. Meaning both the original Japanese & English dub used the new remixed dub music for the credits in that release.
11:30 okay I understand it's basically a dvd menu but are you sure the subs aren't formated where you pick the dialog language first and then the subs? Like for most releases? I know for most blu ray players (and VLC) will let you know how many subtitle tracks there are. I mean if I pick subtitles first and then do dialog for some anime release I get close captions instead of the subtitles for the Japanese audio. If there's a clear visual that says it, it would make it more clear for me. And that all region sign only appears for DVD releases. So most likely the DVD and blu ray release are the exact same. And most likely it wouldn't be too hard to just code duplicate exact same close captioning track and then just remove all the dialog subs and sound affects subs. And same could be said about the theatrical subs. And about Anno's logo's on his films, he hand writes them for both the Japanese releases and English releases of his films. For Evangelion, he uses a normal sharpy marker. And as you note, he uses a traditional Japanese calligraphy brush, to do the titles for his "Shin" release. And the slideshow just seems like something that would've been seen on the Fathom Events screening for the film. Like the Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 American screening.
Yes. The dialogue options have no effect on the subtitles. There is a single subtitle track on the disc and can be toggled in the menu or with a remote’s “subtitle” button. This is unfortunately a poorly formatted release and doesn’t match the industry standards
OMG this is a blunder of epic proportions Soundout. Unbelievable!!!! I want to see this film so bad but if it's like this, then I'm not so sure. Again, do you recommend a digital purchase like mentioned towards the end? If so, can you recommend where to get it? Thanks again for this very important video.
I'm wondering why Shout Factory didn't attempt to get the distribution rights for Shin Ultraman; considering they distribute the physical releases for the regular series.
Is there a possibility that the Tsuburaya and Toho will have someone re-release Shin Ultraman on Blu-ray, but by a different company in North America? Kinda like what happened to JoJo Parts 1 and 2 BD?
This release was definitely a mess, and after having success importing Kamen Rider Black Sun from China (I think it’s even the same English subs as Amazon Prime) I’m starting to think I should just stick to importing and stop playing with these inexperienced companies! Side note, it’s extra outrageous that the replacement disc came with a flyer for another Japanese movie that’ll presumably have all the issues this release had! They didn’t even print it on card stock, it was just a Jpeg on standard paper!
@@DekaStriker2424 I got it off eBay, and my seller ended the listing. eBay still has a few listings up though, and they don’t look sketchier than the one I grabbed.
I will say that the representative I dealt with to get my disc was very helpful and nice. But this was so messy. This is like one of my favorite movies ever and this was not handled well at all. My replacement disc came with a flyer for Lion-Girl and I was cautiously excited about that, but now.. I do not know.
Look up the company Raven Banner, they’re giving a deluxe treatment of the film with a bigger BD gig size and a deluxe slipcover like Severin/Vinegar Syndrome if you collect those too. Will be picking up mine soon to replace my V2 disc, I didn’t even know there was a third replacement at all, what a shit show.
Because Cleopatra Entertainment is a worst company of all time. But there no Toho logo and Tsuburaya Productions logo? Dang It, Cleopatra Entertainment!
Wow! Great video . Definitely not buying this dogshit. As soon as I heard the name of the company releasing it I was like "Who?" and decided to not preorder. My instincts did not fail me lol

I honestly hope someone like Discotek or Shout gets Shin Kamen Rider
The LG release of Shin Kamen Rider from China actually looks great

That's honestly really cool!
And that makes Shin Rider's logo even weirder
They should have let Seth or Anubis handle the bluray for this movie not Cleopatra
Top tier comment

Good theory on the video artifact
So mill creek only handles the older tv series of Ultraman but lost to Cleopatra entertainment? Ouch
All cause Toho sold off the movie to a distributor

Gotta love Indie theaters! They're the best
i just got the blu ray a few weeks ago....
Was planning to buy it after hearing it was corrected so big thanks for the heads up

Would Amazon digital version be the one to get or will it have the issues the blu ray would have?
The amazon digital should be fine from what I've heard
I don't know if you made a video on these or not but what's wrong with ghosts in the show on Blu-ray and Yu-Gi-Oh dark side of dimensions Blu-ray?
Both have dubtitles instead of proper subtitles for their Japanese audio. Yu-Gi-Oh also has an aspect ratio issues. Ghost in the Shell also features no chapter markers, and the English dub will randomly cut to Japanese audio at times

@nisrntje3240 I better check my copy then. I bought it years after it's release. I haven't checked it for a while.
There's also an aspect ratio issue. I can't remember off the top of my head what it is. It probably deserves its own video

@@Soundout12 SMH this is just sad. I just know whenever that Madman release comes out. I'm gonna try and pick that release up.
Do you know when the Canadian and Australian disks will be released?
The Madman (Australian) release won't be out until some time in October, if that helps you at all. You'll have to ask a Canuck about theirs.
Interesting!
I ordered my copy on amazon and haven’t unwrapped the disk yet do I still qualify for a replacement?
Definitely. All they had me do was take pictures of the front and back of the case, not the disc itself
@@Soundout12 awesome thank you so much
I have not finished the video yet, so sorry if my question is already answered but is the Blu Ray the only way to watch this film legally?
No, there is a DVD release for Shin Ultraman as well. But I believe the same issues on Blu-ray are on the DVD release as well.
Digital on RUclips movies or Vudu

RUclips Movies or Vudu should work!
Thanks for the review. good thing I didn't pick this up
I'm wondering why Shout Factory didn't attempt to get the distribution rights for Shin Ultraman; considering they distribute the physical releases for the regular series.
Shout doesn't do the Ultraman release, that's Mill Creek and likely neither were even given the option of licensing this
I love this franchise too much to do the P word in this case, but unless the subtitling issue’s ironed out…
Is there a possibility that the Tsuburaya and Toho will have someone re-release Shin Ultraman on Blu-ray, but by a different company in North America? Kinda like what happened to JoJo Parts 1 and 2 BD?
Potentially but it probably just comes down to how all the contracts are written
