My cousin and her husband bought one of these destination trailers for a permanent spot. The RV dealer that sold it to them brought it to that site and helped set it up. Another thing about living in these permanent spots with a destination trailer as many of these places to keep from looking trashy require that you have a new trailer, Every 10 years some may go more than that, but they like the trailers to look nice.

My parents had one for many years on a site they owned at an RV Park in Gatlinburg, TN, UT stayed there immobile. It was a great way for them to spend 6 months there and 6 months at home once they stopped pulling a trailer around the country.

I owned a park model as my primary home for a few years in the mid 90's, loved it, tiny living before it was popular.

stayed at a few of those in AirBNB type rentals in warmer locations. They didn't look like they ever getting moved - solid cinderblocks underneath, tie down straps. Yeah, probably a way to built something fast and affordable.

I have a destination model and it’s parked. I really like the room in here. Lots of space for the grandkids when they come, and my XX-large dog bed fits in the bedroom. My bathroom is also very large. It’s like well done tiny home on steroids. But I absolutely would not travel with it and will continue to use my travel camper for that. I’m glad I got this over the fifth wheel I had originally thought to park in my space. Very happy with my decision on this.

I think these are great for people that have land in a remote location that can add their own power and septic system. Instant cabin in the woods.

You made me smile at your choice of “a more efficient build”…very diplomatic! Lots of shortcuts at those price points…I’d be worried it would rattle apart on parts of I40!

They are actually more solidly constructed than most travel trailers. They use a lot of wood frame in the construction, which is cheaper than other options but also heavier, which is why most travel trailers have a little wood in the as possible, to keep weights down so all the people with gutless nissans can still tow one.

My 40ft Skyline Nomad with 3 slides has been on the same permanent site along the Mississippi river for 12 years.
It sits on cement blocks and skirted like a mobile home.

I am commenting from my 2020 Salem Grand Villa 42DL. We are in a campground in Northern Michigan with a dozen or so friends and family also here.
I work remotely so I am able to stay here a week or two every so often. It is not as comfortable as my home office with quad monitors and great chair.
It has 2 lofts, my daughter uses one and the other is used for storage. We love our destination trailer.

I saw these all over our local RV dealer’s lot this summer and kept thinking how the H3LL does someone toe that monstrosity. I even took a picture and sent it to my husband in disbelief these things were seriously being sold. Thanks for this video and discussion!

Our 42 foot destination was delivered with a 2017 Dodge 2500 long box diesel with air bags. The driver didn't think it was an issue. I would not pull it more than from one site to another in the same park with my Chevy 2500 Diesel.

I just purchased one September 2024, we towed it with my brothers, 2022 dodge ram 2500. It towed great, but felt like a wind sail slowing you down and use a lot of fuel. Got it home unhooked it from the truck and use the 38 hp tractor to set it in place. Works awesome

The dealership that I worked at before retiring, sold quite a few destination trailers and probably 40 percent of them were ordered with residential toilets and NO tanks. And you are right, even the transport drivers tried to avoid hauling these from Elkhart, IN to dealers all over the country. And you left off that quite a few people are buying these to LIVE IN on property they own. SCARY!!!

    • @jjones5424
      @jjones5424 4 месяца назад +1

@@nia6849 Because these are very poorly constructed trailers and quite a few are riddled with problems. If you want those problems fixed under warranty, great, all you have to do is take it back to the dealership you purchased from.......RIGHT! And 2nd, these are RECREATIONAL VEHICLES made for recreating in NOT living in. Park models and mobile homes are designed and built to live in, NOT destination trailers. That's why.

Have you done a video on why campgrounds are stating a custom made Transit camper van, year 2022 are not allowed to camp in the park because it does not have a RVIA sticker? We are running into issues specifically trying to camp on the west coast. KOA's too. This is so bogus as our van is probably safer than any manufactured rig.

I wouldn't get anywhere near one of these shoddily-made things. You're so much better off building a small cabin that becomes an appreciable asset with much more of everything. And then rent a place at a vacation destination and you'll still come out ahead.
