It was 1972 when Elvis bought my mother a new washing machine in Hope, Arkansas. I was around 10 at the time and our old Ringer / Washer broke down. Mama couldn't afford to get it repaired and sure couldn't afford to buy a new one. We were walking through town when mama stopped in front of a Western Auto Store and was staring at a new washing machine there on display. I seen these two men coming down the sidewalk heading towards us. I was kind of shy so I kept facing the store window as they passed behind us and went into the same store where we was gazing at the washer. They both walked around inside the store looking but not really looking at any particular thing. As we stood outside, one of the men who years later I found out was Jerry Schilling, Elvis' friend and Body Guard, came up to the window and motioned for us to come inside. Mama took me by the hand and we headed off down the sidewalk in the opposite direction. In a flash, the man came out and ran up behind us and yelled for us to wait. He said a friend of his noticed we were looking at the washing machines and he wanted to know if we needed one. Mama said for years her first instinct was to say no and run like crazy but for some reason she didn't. She told him yes we needed a new washer but she just didn't have the money to buy one. He told mama if she wanted one, to come in the store and show his friend which one she wanted and he would buy it for her. Mama didn't know what to think or even what to do but we followed him back to the front of the store and went in. Elvis had a floppy hat on and had it pulled down low covering his face. We came in and Elvis asked Jerry did mama know which washer she wanted or did she want something else ? Jerry told mama to show him which one she would buy if she had the money. She picked the one we had been looking at and Elvis told the salesclerk he wanted to buy that washer and have it delivered and installed at the address my mother would give him. Mama protested that she couldn't afford it but Jerry told her it was all taken care of. Elvis paid for the washer with a check and told my mother he was glad to help her. She told him Thank you and there was no way she could ever repay him. Elvis said by accepting it as a gift was payment enough for him. And with that, him and Jerry went out the door and were gone just as fast as they had came. Still a bit confused over the whole thing, Mama asked the salesclerk did he know who they were. He laughed at my mother and said, " You really don't know ? Mama shook her head back and forth as the salesclerk said, " That ma'am, was Elvis Presley ".

All the memories of my friend are tucked safe in my heart forever. i saw him a few weeks before he passed we had a short conversation which i will never share again because people are so nasty and comment hurtful heart breaking things they do not know me but they still can't keep their mouths closed about things they know nothing about. I walk past Graceland everyday. Great reaction loved it very much.. love from the one and only Memphis Tn.

Elvis was an amazing man of Faith in God/Jesus! In Atlanta in 72 I saw him perform and being on the side seating with the center seats right in front of the stage, Elvis was singing, lights off over the audience and I saw a light moving down the center aisle towards the stage, as the light got closer to the stage, I realized it was lit birthday cake, a white haired lady carrying it, as she got about 20 feet from the stage security stopped her and in the middle of singing a song Elvis said, "Stop, you let her through, and escort her up on stage. As she approached Elvis, he greeted her with a kiss, blew out his candles as his birthday turned out was the next day, sat her in a chair near him and sang Can't Help Falling in Love with You! That's what made me a fan of an amazing man, entertainer, man of God, awesome human being!

I was 16 when I watched this on TV with my mom and grandma. We were so happy to see him. It was a really big deal worldwide and people just loved him. The 60's were a pretty crazy time to be alive. The music was awesome. As a teenager we had so much fun listening and dancing to good music. We did not do drugs. I did go to parties with alcohol though!! My mom was 2 years older than Elvis so it was like Elvis was my brother who lived in Memphis. We talked about him all the time...hi new records, a tv appearance, or something he was going through. I saw all 31 of his movies which had soundtrack albums. They were sappy, but made money because he sang in them and people went to see him sing. I wish my mom were alive so I could take him to see the new Elvis movie with me. She liked the Elvis movie where Kurt Russell played Elvis. Kurt is another man/actor we both really liked. I digress. Thanks for the reaction video. I have seen this hhundreds of times but love watching it with a new fan.

There's so much emotion, passion, and pain in his voice. There's so much conviction in every single word he's singing, you can tell he FELT every bit of this performance. And you could feel it. It honestly seemed like he was going to pass out at the end. With all those huge notes, all that emotion, all the pressure of airing such a song at that time, and knowing this was his one shot to nail this song, because he said he would never perform it again. Amazing. Legendary. The stuff of icons. The power of the King.
His performance of, "Trying To Get To You", during the same, Elvis '68 Comeback Special, is also one of his best, and one of music history's best. It's a must see.

Everything has been said and continues to be, about the gift that Elvis was to this world. Though I was not fortunate enough to experience him live in concert, I feel blessed that his videos and recordings still take me there, virtually, every single time to this day and everyday. His magnetic passion for his craft, his fellow human beings, and God, explode, radiate, and touch the ear, heart, and soul of any and all who appreciate the man and great and multi-talented and incomparable individual that he was. I thank you, Devin, for sharing his giftedness with so many who are only just being introduced to Elvis.

Elvis I'd believe every word because he had the song written specifically for him to honour his friends, MLK and Bobby Kennedy. He was political through his singing and behind the scenes. In my day this song from Elvis was huge. I still have the original LP.

Elvis' manager told him not to perform this song because it's too controversial. Elvis told him the only way he won't perform it is over his dead body. LONG LIVE THE KING!

FYI: Elvis did dedicate song "If I can dream" to MLK. But, this song was actually written for Elvis, as the kind of man they knew Elvis to be. You can see Steve Bender (spelling) describing the making of the 68 Comeback Special and that song.

Elvis had a photographic memory when it came to music. He had just rehearsed this song just once prior to this performance. The producers were worried he couldn't pull it off and considered a studio recording then having him lip sync it. Elvis said "no way, I got this". Boom. Another classic.

Martin Luther King was an anointed preacher. It was so sad when he died. Elvis used to go to the black church when he was a boy. Have you seen the movie trailer about Elvis. It will be in theaters 06/24/22. People are reacting to the trailer. It is so good. The man staring as Elvis has his movements & voice down. It gives me cold chills. Tom Hanks stars as his manager. Love your reactions! I'm a Christian too. When he sings gospel I praise God everytime.
