Very glad the video helped you decide - like any tool you don't use very often, I recommend you add gas stabilizer to protect the carburetor from decaying gas - and I bought the shaft extension but never have used it, but I have no problems with this auger - use the gas/oil mix jug that comes with it, it is 50:1, the manuals are not consistent - thanks for subscribing!
I put mine on start, prime with the bulb 3 times, pull cord twice, prime 3 more times, and it usually starts right up. Then I move it over to run. I really love mine. We bought a house in April, and this has been a great tool for landscaping our yard. We also bought the 8" (I believe) auger bit. I just go slower around trees, and I use the 6" to test those spots.

Have been thinking of buying this for several years. The earth here where I am is full of shale, not sure how this might work in this environment. I do appreciate your review and love your channel. 👏👍🙏
I was surprised it did so well in our ground, when I dig here I have to use a mattock, and its brutal work, I was worried there was too much rock in the clay but it worked out ok - luckily the rocks were all small, HF used to have a two-man auger, but they have cut back on the range of tools they stock - thanks for the positive comments and thanks for subscribing!
I usually install a small inline valve on the gas lines of all small engine stuff and then just run then dry every single time I use them.
As long as I do that, they they always start easily and run damned near forever, no Stabil needed. I remember seeing my dad rebuilding carburetors and replacing needle valves every spring, and figured there had to be a better way.
that is a good option, and I thought about it, but finally decided to get the stabilizer - I have so many tools with engines, it is either add stabilizer to each gas can when I buy gas, or drain each tools, I think it works out about the same, but it is an additional expense to use the stabilizer - thanks for bringing up that option that might help someone else - thanks for subscribing!

Everyone has their opinion but I dump or siphon the excess fuel back out depending on the tank size and run it dry. Had a Troy Bilt snowblower for 17 years till I got an ATV with the plow never an issue with gum-up. I do it to all my small engines and lawn tractors before storing them in Central PA..
I see all these videos, no rocks! I'm kinda jealous haha
there are some rocks, no big ones though, just a LOT of very hard clay, so much clay if you want to plan something, you have to dig a hole, throw away the clay and add organic dirt (dirty with manure mixed in is best) - I realize rocks are worse than clay, but still a pain - thanks for subscribing!
Wondering about the ratio fuel/oil you used? The manual says 25:1 but the sticker on the auger itself says 50:1. That measuring container measured the way you measured it out is a 25:1 mixture. I just got one and trying to figure out which one is correct.
there are 4 different engines HF uses on these augers - so there are four different models with different SKU - HF has started including the UPC as part of their model number to denote different manufacturers - so you use the sticker - or verify the SKU-UPC - the bottle that came with mine has 2 lines, 1 says fill to here with gas, the 2nd line says fill to here with oil - of the 4 models, 3 of them are 50:1 and the 4th is 25:1, I guess the model someone gets depends on the HF distribution network..... @@snapwholeharborfreightreviews What are the increments on the mixing bottle you are using in the video? Mine shows a level of 576 for fuel and then 600 for the added oil. I suspect those measurements are CCs? But beside that marking it shows 25:1.
@@my-yt-inputs2580 I agree with the CCs and 1 CC = 1 ML, so CCs and MILs are both correct, really depends on what you are used to using (CCs is more common), and the marking on the bottle are the same - 576 and 600, sounds like three of the manufactures labeled the manuals wrong, which is why I recommended using the bottle that came with the auger, seems like a major issue if you lost the bottle - the math on 576/600 is 25:1, that is a lot of potential problems - one viewer commented they took back the auger because the exhaust smoked to much, I wonder if they did not use the bottle and went by the manual? I assumed it was the oil they used, you can use any oil, but some will smoke more than others - thanks for asking the question that stated this tread - thanks for subscribing!
@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews Okay I'm now trying to come up with a formula for 50:1 if using the graduations on the mixing bottle. 500mL = 10 mL oil?
I did see a comment on another review of the HF Auger and suggested 50:1 is not enough oil and 25:1 sounds better saying 50:1 might burn up the engine.
@@my-yt-inputs2580 if 576/24 ml is 25:1, then double gas or half oil, oil is easier since I can use the same jug so 1/2 oil =12, it is 588/12, yea, it is 49:1, but for 50:1 it is 588.25/11.76 ml , so 588/12 ml is close enough, and correct using the rule of significant digits (basically means you can not measure that accurate in practice anyway) - I plan to use the ratio on the jug that came with mine, the jug is either correct, or 2x as much oil, both of which is better than 1/2 the right amount of oil witch equals engine damage over time - again, thanks for bringing up the question, interesting topic - thanks for subscribing!
Just curious do they sell a 10 or 12 inch bit for this model? Im pretty interested in buying one of these
they also sell a 21 inch extension and a six inch and an eight inch auger bit, it has a 7/8" shaft, if you need bigger, amazon sells several different sized, 10, 12 and larger auger bits, thanks for subscribing!
Whats the specific Valvoline oil you used?

Can it go in reverse to get untangled from roots

it says to use fuel stabilizer and i didnt see u put any. Should I not put any?
I put stabilizer in, if you don't the fuel will gum up the carborator and it will not start, and you'll end up replacing or rebuilding the carborator - thanks for subscribing!

WHEN STORING TWO STROKE ENGINES- DUMP YOUR GAS AND PUT THE 2 STROKE OIL ONKLY IN TEH GAS TANK AND THEN PUMP IT THROUGH THE CARB- IT KEEPS THE GASKETS ALL SO NICE--- IN SPRING JUST ADD IN FUEL PUMP THE LINES CLEAR AND IT WILL START UP AS SOON AS THE GAS REPLACES TEH OILS
i turn my back in cause it was smoking to much and I don't want to inhale those gases bad for your health. Augers shouldn't be smoking like that.
while you should not have problems with a new tool, it sounds like adjusting the amount of oil in the gas would take care of this problem, or possibly use a different oil mix, but both of these risk of motor damage on a new tool, not worth it - I'm curious if they charged a restocking fee like the website says - thanks for subscribing!
Very easy to just wear a respirator while using
All new engines will break in. The smoke coming off of the cylinder head and muffler is the thin layer of oil applied at the factory to prevent rust. After a few minutes of running it will burn off. This is not an issue and you did not need to return your auger.
Just went to purchase this exact Auger. The price tag read $209.00
Went to pay, they tried to charge me $289.00
I asked why? There reply was, that price is if you but their store card for 30 bucks. I said ok. Do it.
Then they again tell me the price is still $289.00
Then she could not give me a reasonable reason as to why it was the higher price.
It seemed as if they were trying to use a Jedi Mind trick on me when she said you will still get it for $209.00 I took her back to were the auger was on the shelf. The price tag read $209.00
She then again tried to tell me only if I but this store card.
I just left it sitting on the counter and walked out.
Never going back .

I pointed this out and again hit with the higher price.
I can tell you I know what I am talking about. I even asked if she was the one I spoke to about before I came in. She said she was. Rather you want to believe it or if you do not.
Your company lost a sale. And I will not fall into the same old saying that " You lost a Customer ". Maybe you need to sell your products for what your Sale Tags state. And stop with the process of trying to force people to buy your instore card.
Just to follow this up. If you’re a medium/small Frame woman. I do not suggest this auger at all. After I fought the starter chord for well over an hour it FINALLY started. I will say it did infact run well once it finally started. That being said I farm and work horses daily. I’m not a weak woman. But this thing got stuck in the dirt, not even a foot deep and twisted my arm around. Currently in route to the ER. Pretty sure it snapped my arm. Highly disappointed and DO NOT RECCOMEND.
can you add some more detail now that you are not under the pressure of getting to the ER - what did you do to finally get it started? how much was your ER bill? did you return the auger? did you find out what the auger hit to stop it? how did you get that obstacle out to finish the hole? adding a set of X handles would make the auger a little easier to us, but requires 2 people, and would share the shock of a sudden start across both people, the sudden stop when an obstacle is hit will have the same result on all hand held augers, regardless of the depth of the hole or the size or gender of the operator - thanks in advance for providing more information and thanks for subscribing !
