Poland’s Ministry of National Defence has signed two contracts to buy 48 FA-50 light attack aircraft from South Korea, with the first 12 jets to be delivered next year and a further 36 aircraft from 2025 to 2028.

KF-21 is what Poland really need as its main airforce platform in long term.🇵🇱🤝🇰🇷 FA-50 is designed to be Drone Hunter and Close Air Support with laser guided MK-82 in Polish service . Air superiority and strike role is to be handled by F-16 and F-35 mix. KF-21 cold be excellent replacement for now slowly ageing F-16 and use to actually numerically expand Polish Air Force to over 250 combat jets, as KF-21 will be very affordable platform.

Agreed. S Korea was making F16 under licensing agreement and they learned a lot from that process. They seemed to have incorporated many improvements they perceived from making F16s in their development of FA-50 fighters. FA-50 is fresh design that incorporates many innovations so Poland is actually very smart in purchasing these agile fighters and they are less than 1/20 of the cost to operate than F16s.

Leader in land forces defineatly. What we need especially is heavy equipment like armor, artillery both cannon and rocket, air defense systems, strike helicopters and that's where we focus at. We don't need expeditionary forces because we have no ambition to conquer other countries , our navy role is limited to protecting strategic infrastructure and our air forces will be used in cooperation with allies because its easiest to relocate.

Regarding Poland military budget it will be a steady 4% of GDP of what is now fastest growing large economy in EU. Unemployment is lowest in EU and public debt is at level of 46% of GDP and actually falling. So funding of military expansion is a right investment in Poland case. That why Moody and S&P credit rating for Poland is so good as for country being a neighbour to major war. Basically if your invest in Poland, your investment is now protected what will be a strongest army in Europe. 😁🇵🇱

The FA50 is cheap to buy and operate so it's a good choice for Poland as a replacement of their ex-Soviet SU-22s which are well past their retirement date.

I would like to think so. Korea has produced F-16's under license and therefore has expanded its own capabilities. Poland has not done this even though we have a long history with the United States reaching as far back as the US revolutionary war! Poland gets trodden on by the great powers of Germany and Russia. Sadly, nothing much different in the modern era. The fact that we are in the EU and NATO is a huge plus.
Up until recently we were a laughing stock with the political display undermining our EU credibility.
Poland should copy the system in Switzerland to train and arm the citizenry, this would be a tidal change in our cultural mentality, we then might enter on a path to major power status but not necessarily "the" major power.
Poland are building one of the largest and strongest militaries in Eastern Europe. They already have hundreds of Abrams, Leopard and South Korean Black Panther tanks, which are alleged to be among the finest around. The Polish Air Force already uses the F16 and Apache attack helicopters, and are thought to be taking out an option on the F35.... Given Russia's performance in Ukraine, it would be sheer stupidity to launch an attack or invasion against Poland, given they are also a full NATO member nation.

South Korea is becoming one of the great manufacturers of quality military equipment…. The FA-50 is a great example of that.
Korean jet fighters are definitely in the top league. But Korean tanks, ACPs, self propelled artilleries, and IFVs are literally the best of the best in the world right now. They are also upgrading their drones in order to outperform anything in the market. Plus, they have just completed their new drone killing Laser Cannons, the first in the world.

I`m not sure whether South Korean weapons are reliable or not. But Poland has been increasing her military power very rapidly. For a long time, Poland was a whipping boy in Europe, but now Poland is expected to play a major role as a champion of democracy and freedom.

I am not so sure about “democracy and freedom” or any of that political ideology. I have always liked Russia and Putin but I also like Poland (my favourite European country) as well. Poland is the barrier against Russian aggression against the West. Poland must have some smart leaders for them to make strategically wise decisions. They are smart for acquiring these front line jets for they incorporate all the latest technically advanced features. S Korean aerospace firm has a lot experience manufacturing F16s prior to launching their own developed fighter jets.

Maybe compare the armament, its quantity, operational range of this FA-50 toy to the MiG-29G, MiG-35, Su-27, Su-30/35 because these toy planes will fight with them ... With what? None of you have any idea about the technical data, possibilities, of toy FA-50. Only complete ignorant people can compare something to structures designed from the very beginning as fighter planes. Why don't Korea sell or give to the someone else its 200 F-16s and stay with these FA-50s, since the FA-50 is just as good and designed for fight "like F-16".. Why does the Korean Air Force operate with so expensive F-16 airplanes? I am waiting for a response...

F35s are allocated high missions, F16s, F15s and KF-21s medium and FA-50 low.
F16s and FA-50s roles are different. You should recognize these facts.
And also FA-50 can assume some of F-16s roles with much lower cost and about 80% capabilities equivalent.

Korea have plenty to offer: KF21's, KSS-II & III Submarines Chunmoo Rockets, K2 (which Poland wishes to advance to K2 PL [longer chassis and better armor]), Daewoo 5.56 mm ammo.
This joint venture can be Trilateral: Korea, Poland and Ukraine (future rockets over 1000 km) Chunmoo is slightly based on Russian technology, which is not that advanced; future mutual cosmic designs, electromagnetic warfare or transport planes....

Over 1000 km it is possible, Ukraine and South Korea has advanced rocket technology in their hands, Poland can help with guidance, command and management systems etc.
I don’t think South Korea can sell its submarines though because they are still very sensitive technology and even South Korea does not have enough of it to counter the North Korean submarine fleet. South Korea will need to build dozens more for domestic use before exporting those submarines. Right now, North Korea has the upper hand in the submarine fleets in terms of numeric advantage.
Here it comes again; South Korea and Poland to the rescue. Maby Ukraine could do some shopping for good stuff from them.

Ukraine is a waste of money. It is a money trap for the West. No matter how much you invest in Ukraine, in a matter of months all that money disappears into the thin air. Ukraine is not a trustworthy partner like Poland is. I would bet on Poland, not on Ukraine.
No one seems to want to explain why the T-50 was not selected foe the T-38A/C replacement. There seem to be issues already with the T-7A. The T-50 and F/A-50s serve well in many nations.

Malaysia bought the same version of Fa-50 Block 20 jests for $51 million which is $13 mln less per plane than Poland. The Malaysian contract was signed in February for 18 jets with the option to buy another 36 jets.

FA-50 block 20 has 70-80 percent capabilities of the Saab Gripen and F-16 Viper at just 1/3 of the price tag. It's maintenance is also very aforfable at just 4 thousand dollars per flight hours vs 8 thousand of Gripen and 22.5 thousand of the Viper. And with 70 percent combat readiness. With BVR capabilities and AESA radar with high tech avionics It's the ideal everyday fighter for any airforce. A true little pitbull. KAI is developing a one seat version with extended combat range.

Let me tell you something - if you compare the cost of operating combat aircraft with any training aircraft, the training toy will certainly be cheaper... Guess why? Because they are not combat aircraft. No one in Poland needs planes that are not even comparable to the planes currently used in the training process. The cockpit, avionics and systems are so far from the F-16s that are used in Poland that only politicians believe in their similarity to the F-16... Maybe compare the F-16 cockpit with the M-346 cockpit and then you will see how the FA- 50 doesn't make sense in Poland. The government - the stupid current government - of Poland has thrown a lot of money down the drain by buying planes that will not be useful for anything. And the cost of exploatation may be appreciated by the Philippines ... We in Poland, having Russian Su-27/30/35 and MiG-29/35 right next to the border, we can at most pack politicians and their families into these FA-50s and send west, where they will be defended by F-16s, F-15s, F-35s, F-22s, EF-2000s, Rafales and Gripenes, not toys like the FA-50...

@@user-cc9rx7oe8d First of all - the FA-50 is nothing more than a TA-50 with an extended asortiment of armament that still does not include medium-range air-to-air missiles, an aircraft that has an operational range of about 250-300 km with two fuel tanks suspended, leaving only two pylons for armament air-to-ground if it is to use guided bombs and missiles - one pylon out of three free ones occupies the aiming pod.
So yes - the FA-50 is a toy, not a combat aircraft. MiG-29, Su-22M4 F-16, F-35 have 100 times more possibilities both in attacking ground targets and above all in air combat.

You need to understand the concept of low-grade, intermediate, and advanced fighter jets. The FA-50 is a low-grade fighter. Korea operates F-4, F-5, FA-50, F-16, F-15, and F-35A. We cannot operate F-35s in all operations. In Korea, the FA-50 is used as an alternative fighter for the F-4 and F-5.The Polish government is also aware of this, which is interpreted as an intention to immediately fill the power gap for patrol missions.The F-16s will be attractive to the Poles, but under the current circumstances, they will have to wait a very long time for the fighter to be delivered. They're good light fighters, but from there to Russia panicking over them, it's like saying the US would panic if Mexico were to buy them in equal numbers.
The KA-50 is a modified F-16 built domestically by Korea - which is a 1970s era generation. Korea has a next gen (generation 4.5) fighter in the works. Poland has strong reason to spin up their defense industry and armed forces. Both Poland, the Baltic States, Finland and Ukraine need to assure they have air superiority over any possible battlefield. The lack of air superiority in Ukraine reduces warfare their into WWI style trench warfare. So air superiority is crucial. It is not certain that Ukraine will gain air superiority once they employ the F-16s, but hopefully it will be enough.
We are in a late 1930s kind of era. Russia is a rogue state and China has become a cult of personality under Xi. These are not easy to accommodate into a stable peaceful international order. Russia has Wagner operatives doing vastly inhumane activities in Syria, Africa and Latin America, including human trafficking. China has a demographic collapse that is going to spawn an economic churn, if not collapse, and that, along with Xi's cult of personality is going to create huge instability that is likely to result in enormous human suffering, and may include war in the South China sea and over Taiwan. Civilization cannot continue to accomodate these rogue regimes. The human cost are terrible. At some point, these have to be figured out.
