On the 19th of July 2022, the brand new KF-21 Boramae stealth fighter or Fighting hawk took to the skies from Sacheon airbase near Busan. You know, where THAT train goes.
And many experts are wondering if the KF-21 will be a game changer for the future of the military aviation market or just an expensive flex for the Korean defense industry?
This joint project of South Korea and Indonesia has been plagued with issues throughout the years and many doubted its purpose and feasibility, but with the successful development of T-50 and subsequent FA-50 combat variant, KAI or Korean aerospace industry proved that they are capable of developing a supersonic jet.
Now with the breakthrough into the European market with Poland acquiring 48 of the kind, the future looks bright for the Korean defense industry.
And terrifying for South Korea’s enemies
It's important to note that South Korea already has F35s as its top fighter, while the KF21 is meant to be its workhorse with significantly better readiness rates, lower operation and maintenance costs, and higher modifiability. Not to mention, the profits for exporting the KF21 would further offset development costs and even help fund future fighter programs.
They know the f35 is a lemon and luckily had their own version in the works. America wants countries to buy inferior products and weapons why? We know there's better equipment less expensive everywhere else
@Michael Marable The F35 isn't a lemon, but it is too expensive to use as a workhorse and has too many restrictions to modify or even repair easily. This is why Korea is pursuing developing KF21, as a mid-tier fighter that will be the workhorse of the ROKAF and deploy alongside Korea's F35s in certain situations.
Bingo
F35 costs way to much to use against anything smaller then aircraft carrier.
@Abhijeet Kundu South Korea doesn't have a chance against North Korea? Huh?
I understand that NK has nuclear weapons, but God what its actual capability is. Not to mention the fact that using nuclear weapons on territory as small as the Korean peninsula would mean self-destruction by radioactive fallout. They can't even keep their soldiers properly fed, for God's sake.
The Koreans (south) always make quality products. This looks really good
Yes,honest, hardworking ppl, their staff are always of high quality. They don't sell B,C class like some westerners
Amazing how such as small country with very limited to no natural resources can be such a major player in all key areas like semiconductors, weapons, ships, cars, nuclear energy and of course entertainment! Imagine what Koreans could achieve if it had more land, population and natural resources.. or perhaps lack of such things propelled them to get to where they're today..
Uh..... Has the US disappeared in this world? With the aid of the US, only a semi-finished product can be produced. =_=
Korean are part of bigger race we called Northeast Asian which includes Northern Chinese, Mongol, Japan, Koreans.
@@iamgreat1234 There is no race called Northeast Asian
@@blahz7152 You just want to denied Northeast Asian race superiority
You gotta realize that not every country that lacks resources, population and land managed to climb this high. South Korea went from one of the poorest, war torn, underdeveloped countries in the 1960s to making 4.5 gen supersonic fighters and sweeping entertainment industries in 60 years. Literally went from absolute bottom to sky high in an amazingly short time. That seems impressive to me.
Korea is the world's largest technological powerhouse. Korea is at the center of advanced technology that you can imagine.

People think US is involve in the KF21 development but this is not true. Unlike FA50 ..in KF 21 just American engines are used .America got nothing involve with this project .They said they help on some late technologies but they refused later on so Korea had to developed AESA radar ,IRST, EOTGP and EW suite themselves. Also Korea is developing their own engine which is targeting little higher spec then American counter part because American might control sale of KF21 later because of that.

I am proud with my Korean brothers. Hello from Turkey to our brother country.
🇹🇷❤️🇰🇷
I had been in the Korean air force, and one of the major reasons of the development is that there are lots of restrictions in the maintenance of American jet fighters which lowers the number operable jets.
So, suppose if korea has 100 f16 which needs regular maintenance. Then, operable jets are declined to two thirds of the total jets while waiting for the boeing/lockheed martin engineers to visit and repair the restricted parts.
Considering Korea is still at war, and this kind of red tape is an opportunity cost of developing own jet and also a pain jn the a$$
This jet doesn’t see the light of day without American intervention.
Correct and Europe just realised that Rus is only a nuclear threat and a minor land power without a lend lease contract.
The SK jet is a Gen 3 jet.
u.s. defense contractors would not tranfer sensitive technology like the aesa radar. so hanhwa developed one that supposedly performs better than most aesa radar systems. even the jet engine is nearly 80% domestically made and the goal is to raise that to 100%.
I wasn't aware of the restrictions, but makes sense. FWIW, the KF-21 looks slick as hell and hope it works as intended.
My sister was flying back India (Bangalore - Madras) - (West Coast) USA in the early 90s. Reached Madras in an older 737 and was sched to fly further in a brand new 777 (Lufthansa) when the toilets refused to open. No manual override available. They wouldn't let local technicians (experts on older jets) tinker with the computer! All passengers were deplaned and sent to hotel rooms. An American Boeing tech had to come from Frankfurt, Germany to Madras, India to repair the bathroom control module!
I like it, it's like a mixture of f22 and euro fighter but on a simpler mechanical level, it will probably be exceptional in its role
What about it makes you think Eurofighter???
I do not see euro fighter I see F-22 and even maybe f-16
@@killingyouwithlogic5808 I guess it's the infrared tracker in the nose, which in case of the Typhoon is the PIRATE.

@@DefinitelyNotEmma Most if not all of the modern fighter jets have IRST, some are just better hidden than others
Regardless of whether it's stealthy or not, this appears to be a great aircraft overall. I like the fact that it develops many of its own electronics; iris , radar, targeting systems as well as other of its own systems! Great overall!!

KF21 will sale crazy once it begins to undergo production.
only if it is cheaper than an F15 or F18 by a lot !!!
I wouldn't even say co-development with Indonesia. Apparently Indonesia was supposed to pay 20% of the costs or something and send some engineers. I heard they still haven't paid a significant portion of money they promised to pay and didn't send engineers until way late. Basically KAI did it pretty much solo if this is true. If the KF-21 turns out alright, it can probably make a big impact on the market since they are supposed to be very cost efficient. I hope so anyway. It looks very aesthetically pleasing ✨️
Correction: KF-21 is not a stealth fighter yet. KFX program is planned total 3 Phase of upgrade. From prototype to block 1 planned to 4.5 gen+ multirole fighter equivalant to KF-16 (block 52 Variant of Korean license made of F-16) or more. Phase 2 or Block 2 is planned to add electric warfare capabilities and Korea's own Air-to-air missiles. Those AAM are co-developed between KAI and MBDA or BAE. KF-21 block 2 will be armed Meteor BVR missiles or SRAAM in case of US congress won't be allowed to arm Aim9X or AIM 260 fututre long range AAM. The final phase block 3 will have internal weapon bay and lots of stealth capabilities.
The reason KFX program planed to gradual evolution to stealth fighter is ROKAF is very urgent to replace their old KF-5 E/F Tiger 2s and F-4E Phantoms and KAI don't have any experience of making stealth fighter by their own. ROKAF's old 3rd gen jets constantly fall because of it's long period of operation. Also they want their new jets as versatile as KF-16. So, KF-21 is planned for both replacing their old jets as well as for future warfare.
The KF21 is not made to replace the older gen fighters lke the F4e and the F5 tiger and the jegong south korea need those old fighter jets to serve as intercepters and fighter bomber and as a high rediness intercepter and they will be in service well into the 2030and will be phased out of service
And also the kf 21 is capable of using american made aam and European aams
@@tylermin5305 Umm... the Korean government themselves said they will be replacing the F-4 and F-5 aircraft... Just not on a 1x1 scale or basis.
That's pretty much what the video says. It's not yet stealth, there may be an internal weapons bay in the future and this is a 4++ gen and the reasons why it was made as a 4.5 gen plus the various blocks.
I bet you type this comment before the video reach the end haven't you?

@@KannaWorks nah def the F18, the F15's engine exhaust is much different its like a small circle inside a big circle or just a really big circle depends on the variant type

I think S.Korea is taking a very sensible approach. Some see a non stealthy F22/35 clone. I see a relatively simple engineering solution that potentially gives long range (no internal weapons bay allows room for fuel), high tech avionics (AESA radar, IRST etc), engine commonality with the F50 (reduced costs, proven reliability), sales potential already in the bag, a rapid way to replace F5, F4, early F16, a comprehensive range of weaponry that will suit most customer preferences and also allow flexibility of supply, a decent weapons load. I mean, come on, their biggest threats in the sky in the most likely conflict are ancient N.Korean Mig29s. If S.Korea wishes, it should be relatively simple to develop later versions with increased stealth (if the shape is right, you’re halfway there). Add stealth coatings and an internal weapons bay and it can keep up with potential enemy advances without a complete redesign. I look forward to them hopefully accompanying the Black Eagles on their next UK visit for a sales tour.
They can buy high end 5th gen stealth fighter from america if they really need it(looks like they bought F-35).. Good approach i agree it. Things can get way worse if they started their indigenous fighter program from stealth fighter.
Stealth coatings on missiles, external ordnance and pods
Exactly. No ego. No 'national pride'. Only strategic practicality.
Koreans should focus on Beijing and Pyeongyand, on the basis of stong alliance with the US and the wold free world.
I believe they are doing two things: sensor and (fatal) missiles.
Sensor: AESA (chips are the best; intelligence is sonthing to catch up with); multiple IRST sensors, eveloving into DAS (there are three protruded ones on KF-21. Not publicized yet. I do not know how many more are buried through the skin); EOTS (very powerful, but in a pod syle); EW (indentifying enemy emission and the direction(azimuth and altitude); micking the frequency and hopping pattern; jamming) )... These are rapidly developing.
Missiles: The US is extremely cautious with regard to selling JASSM-ER(AGM-158B), LRASM(AGM-158C), AARGM(AGM-88E) or AARGM-ER(AGM-88G), because these are too fatal and disruptive. But from Korean perspective, they need powerful air-aunched missiles. The development is going on.
Stealth is a minor, relatively easy issue, as KF-21 has already implemented the 'form'. (as you clearly mentioned)
You're right. Korea never competes with the US defense industry without prior consultation. It is a geopolitical strategy to disrupt the business of Chinese and Russian weapons by selling Korean weapons to gray countries that are not diplomatically friendly with the US, or to help US allies when they are in need due to supply shortages. This way, it shows that the cooperation is sustainable, and since it is a small country, the profit is good enough.
I see it cannot compete in price to a F-35 and the US will restrict South Korea to sell this aircraft to non allied nations.
Another great video!
It really is great to see South Korea and other countries start to develop their own jets and approches to them.

There will be developments for stealth pods for sure to turn it to a 5th gen but teetering over 4 and 5 while on a budget is a great thing since it gives you operational flexibility.
The stealth capability is not questionable at all. KAI admitted that it is not a stealth fighter but it has lower RCS compared to other 4.5 Gen fighters, furthermore, KAI will be upgrading this platform into a stealth aircraft in the future if things on basic areas of the aircraft are done.
It is a stealth design. The only reason that it's not a stealth design it's because that it doesn't have an interior weapon hangar. Payloads that are located outside the plane significantly increased radar detection. But once it unloads all it's payload, it's going a lot more harder for enemy defenses to lock on

I've seen a cut section of the fuselage. It has dedicated space for an internal weapons bay. Not one for bombs and cruise missiles. Just enough for air to air missiles.
So another limitation in the design that make it unlikely to be able to compete with the F-35's very diverse mission capability. Frankly, once the F-35's adopts the US's brand new ceramic RAM coating they've been testing (stealthier and several times cheaper to maintain) it will be game over for foreign competitors. F-35 unit costs are already incredibly low, once operating costs drop lower than 4th gen fighters, as well as the new more powerful and efficient engine is adopted, pretty much the entire world will want the F-35 over other less capable and more expensive planes.
@@weasle2904 I wouldn't say f35 is substantially superior. It's probably a bit more versatile.
The koreans specifically wanted an air superiority capability. Which is why they went with a twin engine air to air missile bay design similar to the f22. The Turkish are also going in a similar route. In fact, they have already collaborated with the Koreans in their own tfx fighter development.
Apart from the original members of the JSF program, nobody else has shown interest in the jet. Besides, who exactly is the entire world? It's not going to be Africans, South Americans or south Asians. Germany and France are developing their own. India is doing the same. And so is Japan. And then there's Korea and the Turks. So who else is left to buy the F35? It's only the people who already invested in it.
@@RR-us2kp It offers little in "air superiority" (superior to other aircraft) as it's not offering any new BVR technologies and is not stealthy. Stealth is a key factor to compete.
> "Apart from the original members of the JSF, nobody else has shown interest in the jet"
You obviously have no clue what you're talking about because that is blatantly false. There are a half dozen countries that have already purchased or ordered F-35's that were not in the JSF program, Germany and even Switzerland (over the Gripen that they were planning to order lol). Finland literally just adopted the F-35, and they're not even in NATO. Other countries are expected to follow suit. Finland tested all the available fighters in war trials and the F-35 had the highest mission success rate in all categories. In the most recent red flag exercise the F-35 had a 20:1 kill ratio (and that's in mock fights designed to put the F-35 at a disadvantage)
F-35 unit costs are lower than all competing air superiority designs, and it's operating cost has already been cut in half since 2015. Once ceramic RAM is introduced (the existing composite RAM being the biggest source of maintenance) the F-35 will have lower maintenance costs than traditional 4th gen fighters due to it's more streamlined and modern computers systems that can use common buses, radically simplifying complex computers in older designs. The F-135 has already proven to be one of the most reliable jet engines of all time, and by 2027 will have 30% more range and thrust due to radical advancements in airflow management in the new experimental engines. Uncompetitive and likely more expensive fighter designs like the KF-21 will be unlikely to convince most countries that are not politically limited.

KF-21 is beautiful ♡
The reason Korea develops the KF-21 lies in its experience of operating the T-50 and FA-50. The T-50 series aircraft had a utilization rate of nearly 90%, so the satisfaction of the Korean Air Force was very high. Based on these experiences, if we can replace F-16V-like fighters with our own, it is of course a great help in defending Korea. It's really unfortunate, but the US and Korea are far apart and the time difference is different, so important parts are not supplied in a timely manner. Therefore, it is said that the utilization rate cannot reach 75% even if the parts are converted to the same type.
Although it is said to be a joint development with Indonesia, it has not paid the 20% development cost promised by Indonesia and has not paid since 2017. It is said that KAI is very dissatisfied with the cost of housing and meals for Indonesian engineers who do not do this work.
A representative example of such dissatisfaction is that the foreigner who first experienced the KF-21 simulator was a Polish pilot, not an Indonesian.
Indonesia, meanwhile, faithfully paid for the purchase of French-made Rafale fighters.
you are perfectly exact.
@@chinadidchina9117I like your name. hahaha very intuitive
Actually Indonesia has paid 25% of their obligation for the project. Holding the remaining due to consideration of 3 fatal incident to their T50 in 2015, 2020 and 2022. I understood there is also some discussion to the contract which is not giving enough access to indonesia even to basic design and technical aspect. Accomodation and meals is very little cost compare to 800 billion won, come on man. Please.
In the past, Indonesia has award war ships and submarine to south korea. So, its not commercial issue at all. Anyway, the 3 incident to T50 sounds very suspicious. Might be arranged by big players. Anyone with conspiracy theory are most welcome to share.
@@alaneng2948 As a Korean person, I think it's stupid to get angry at Indonesia. Even Indonesia doesn't have control over a lot of the circumstances. For example:
1. they were recently forced by the USA to buy F15's. The USA doesn't care that Indonesia made commitments to KF-21 first, even though they are Korea's ally. Same thing happened with Australia, who ditched France to buy American submarines.
2. I am sure the reason they bought Rafales is because the planes are ready to be dlievered NOW, while KF-21 will still require another 10 years before it is ready for operation.
@@jester5406 fully agree with you bro, all the point you highlighted. F15 and Rafale is the big players who forced our weak government to look for other 'alternative', including the T50 incidents. We also saw incident involving Sukhoi in the past and future discussion for that planed vaporing after. But lets hope kf21 will be our government option for future. No need 5 or 6 gen. 4,5 gen with 1000 units will be a better option for defense. Gen 5 or 6 only need a few.

As a korean to see this video makes me happy and many people think it's looks like a F22raptor and that kai copeyed the desine but Lockheed Martin was just a advisory and all of the development was from kai
Def looks like the f22
I really hate to say this that this aircraft aka KF/Kai 21 boramae is not an stealth aircraft or not an 5 gen but still I heard is that in future the program will able to put stealth/RAM coating and internal bay on the block 2 varient, so for my question is that why the south Koreans airforce didn't buy F35, after the Kai 21 boramae cost twice the price of F35 than the other 5 gen aircraft.
@@heatblast876 we alredy have plans to buy the f35 and we already have 20 f35 in place and 20more coming and the current president has urge to buy f35A
And about the price issue you commented currently the F35is geeting cheaper due to the mass production of the jet but the KF21 is now in its test phase so when it comes to be introduce in service hope the Kf21needs to be mass-produced in order to be cheap
@@heatblast876 i would say the initial design is the most important if you are going for stealth, so in that sense the plane design is def a gen 5. but built as a 4.5
Being Korean myself, this thing is a massive waste of money, considering the F-35 has been bought by most countries already and the rest of Asia not being able to afford it any way. Not to mention that partnering with such a financially unreliable and politically awful country as Indonesia is straight out of a comedy.
Greetings from the Islands of the Philippines!
I would appreciate if the other colaborators (quite big and important ones too) on things such as the IRIS-T would also be mentioned and not just Germany.
I’m curious how stealthy they can make the missiles they put on the plane. Like if they need to use stealth to take out ground targets. I’m sure they can design a couple bombs or missiles that blend in with the plane and have a low radar cross section. Even if there’s a cover on them that disconnects from the actual bomb or missile when they’re fired.
This is not a 5th generation aircraft at all 😂😂😂
I love the fact that the KF-21 is getting some love and recognition. Even our air force in the philippines is currently considering this for its modernization programs against the likes of the F16 Falcon and the JAS39 Gripen. It would be a very welcome addition.
It's weird how the Air Force chief said that when the KF-21 will not be available for export for the next 10 years.
Then there's the fact that first production of KF-21 will be a pure air to air fighter just like the first batch of Eurofighter Typhoon.
Not in the same league as MRCA fighters like the Eurofighter Typhoon, FA-18 or Sukhoi 30 series. The is a LCA fighter, a lower level fighter for training and light use.
The Philippine Air Force has already officially announced through their spokesperson that it will purchase additional FA-50s and KF-21s.
@@cleanenergyinside1921 Koreans know that many foreigners do not welcome the success of the KF-21.
They mocked that the KF-21 Boramae program could not be successful.
In the past, when KAI developed the FA-50 Fighting Eagle, a Lockheed Martin official said:
"If the FA-50 succeeds, I will cut off my arm!"
KAI officials and many Koreans still remember what a Lockheed Martin official said.
Koreans approach success more quickly when ridiculed and criticized, and they do not sleep.
And he hasn't cut off his wrist yet. Hahaha
But we prove it only with results.
@@whiteelan7 I appreciate the success of this program. I have no doubts about it. I am just clarifying about the type of aircraft that this is. Thats all.
This aircraft was never meant to be on par with 5th gen fighters.
It was designed as a 4.5gen and stealth was not the top priority. It was meant to solve the issue of cost and maintenance downtime of current 5th gen aircraft.
Essentially it is designed to work in cooperation with f35(ROKAF already has a few delivered and many on order), in a high-low mixture. Think of it like the current USN strategy of using f35c to gain air superiority then using f18's for actual heavy duty missions.
Many countries will need the f35 for their top tier aircraft, but the maintenance time and cost is a lot higher than 4th gen aircraft so there is a vacuum that needs to be filled after each sortie. Currently the f16 class fills this role and the kf21 is essentially the replacement for that position. Unless you can get boatloads of f35(like the US) you need a low-cost quick turn-around airframe like this as well.
That being said, the overall stealthier design of the KF-21 will definitely have a positive effect on detectability from enemy radar compared to other Gen 4.5 fighters, even with external weapons loaded. Some stealth is still better than no stealth after all!
@@uberschnilthegreat22 Yeah. Stealth is not ON/OFF
And even then, the US operates a high and low mix with F16s and F15s
In 5th gen weapon are in not out
This looks like some super plane you would see in an Ace Combat game
A trade off in capabilities for cheaper costs and easier maintenance compared to high-end western aircrafts is actually a genius move from SK. They researched the market well and found out what developing countries and somewhat developed countries’ demand. No wonder SK got a lot of purchase orders for this relatively newcomer aircraft (which haven’t been proven much in real combat but believed by many to be much more reliable than their western counterparts).
Looks like a cross between an F-15 Strike Eagle and an F-22 Raptor.
Interesting
KF-21 Boramae is already developing a double seat and MUMT at the same time,
so if it succeeds in mass production, it will of course go to the 5.5th generation.
If it succeeds, it's very likely that it will be a real air fighter carrying unmanned aerial vehicles
right after the United States or almost at the same time.
Block3 will be 5 gen
Beautiful airframes.
I wonder if the KF-21 stealth abilities improve when its not loaded with any external weapons and whether it could be used as a forward scout for long range air-to-air weapons. Remember, there are many new variations of air to air missles being made, some with 300+ Km range. You could use a fleet of KF-21 both as missle trucks and as stealthy forward observers relaying targeting information to less stealthy, but heavily armed aircraft flying at the rear.
Pretty sure only the F-35 has that kind of data link capabilities
@@tylerclayton6081 Lots of European gen 4+ aircraft like the Typhoon and Gripen have that capability as well.
@@CyclonicTuna023 Typhoon and Rafale have data link but it’s not anywhere near as advanced as the F-35. Only the F-35 can control missiles fired from other aircraft or ships or ground launchers. I don’t think any aircraft other than F-35 can use other aircraft as missile trucks
Typhoons and some other 4+ gen aircraft can get targeting data from the F-35 but cannot control missiles fired by other aircraft. Other aircraft have to get their own weapons grade lock, the F-35 can control missiles fired from F-15’s and guide them using their own weapons lock, so the F-15 can just fire it’s missiles and have the F-35 guide them to the target, the F-15 doesn’t need to get it’s own weapons lock. Only the F-35 can control missiles like this and get weapons lock for missiles fired by other aircraft
its rcs is one square feet with ext. missiles
without them or with internal compartment it goes down to the size of tennis ball
@@spartacusnow3097 if it did somehow someone stole it already
Don't underestimate the Korean's. HWACHAAAAAA!
amazing, comprehensive and most importantly accurate analysis of kf21. thank you sir.
Producing you own fighter jets is very tough to do.
Nice fighter jet... 👍😊
The real challenge is sensor fusion and Korean missiles including the hypersonic cruise. But even more challenging is that Koreans are developing their own network KLink which is compatible with but independent from the NATO link. This is a very ambitious project. I am a Korean But little bit scared about the scope.
One of the major problems with just purchasing us jets is that they are pretty much paranoid about the technology leaking into other nations (which makes complete sense tbh) to the point where unscrewing a single screw alerts the US Department of Defense. The US also said that it is important to have military equipment from the same environment in order to have smoother joint operations, which makes sense until we realize that despite owning F35s, we never really "own" it. That's why the KF21 is so significant for Korea.
You cant say the US is paranoid with their tech when they just gave it away so korea can build this plane and the copy f-16 too. I don’t know why they allowed this to happen.
The KF21 is one of the slickist planes I have seen since the F22.. Honestly I hope several nations buy it.
I appreciate that they named it the (K)F-21.... It's like a budget F-22, except that's actually a REALLY big compliment!
I'd recently been curious what the F-22 would be like if it lacked that stupid-expensive _and_ performance limiting Radar Absorbing Material, albeit while being otherwise unchanged - a Gen 4.925 I guess.
This doesn't have the internal bays, nor the engines for that matter, but it'll still be interesting to see how it stacks up.
Well done, Korea! 👍👍
And kudos to Poland, for that matter!
No, it’s just a coincidence. The name KF-21 more accurately because it’s announced by 2021
The radar absorbent material is what makes a 5th generation jet. There’s no such thing as 4.9 gen jet. It’s either stealthy or it’s not.
And Poland is buying the FA-50 not the Kf-21. Fa-50 is basically an F-16
@@arrafi204 I just meant that I appreciated the coincidence of it being called that. I hadn't known _what_ their reasoning was behind it, but it's a good thing they didn't base it off of the year of its first test flight, which was 2022! heh
@@tylerclayton6081 My "Gen 4.925" was referencing the F-22 sans its R.A.M. and not this KF-21, just to clarify.
Although, in reference to the KF-21... "G4.75" feels a *little* more fitting, given the entire development of it has taken place in the 21st Century. As opposed to, from what I can tell, the other G4.5 aircraft having at least one foot firmly planted in the 20th.
Still, you're right. Gen 4.5 is technically the catch-all category for anything decidedly not Gen 5, yet is still far superior to the Gen 4s.
The reason the Kf-21 is scary is that it carries out multi-air raids with numerous stealth drones in the two-seat version.
F-22/F-35 combo looks great. They really can't hide in a Korean peninsula conflict, so full stealth is not a limiting factor.
This plane looks so good, i am absolutely in love
It looks beautiful
South Korea is geopolitically surrounded by Russia, China, North Korea, and Japan.
Self-defense is a necessary and sufficient condition in East Asia.
That's why Korea spends $50 billion on defense every year.
It is a good idea and sounds like a very good aircraft less expensive than American and sounds less complex . And for alot of smaller countries fits their defense budget. I hope it proves too be reliable.
Nice topic and keep it up? Can you do Super Tomcat 22?
these videos are like mustard’s videos, but more frequent
Contender for the Philippine Air Force Multi-role Fighter Acquisition Program, it is fighting against the F16 Block 70/72 And The Gripen As well as its older brother the FA50.
Ur pagpag country is p00r
It makes a lot of sense to make your low end fighter replacement as capable as feasible within budget constraints. KF-21 is a significant upgrade over the old F-5 fighter it is replacing. It doesn’t have to be the top end at everything, it will be good enough to clear the skies of ancient DPRK junk fighters.
The limited stealth on a small fighter with external weapons is a practical solution. Small fighters are cheaper and limited stealth by shaping is much cheaper than high stealth with exotic materials and components. External weapons puts a hard limit on stealth potential since the external stores can wind up showing up more than the aircraft on radar. But internal stores on a small aircraft means extremely limited firepower can fit inside.
Thus accepting the limits on stealth at around the limit for external weapons saves a large amount in cost while maintaining adequate firepower. In this case the limited stealth is only to the degree that is cost effective and provides a small but significant edge against fighters of similar size without any stealth shaping at all.
I’d add that this should be a good stepping stone for KAI, as a relative newcomer to the high-performance jet manufacturing scene. Climb the learning curve with straightforward technologies, then phase in advancements moving forward. All in all, this looks like a well thought out program.
I can't wait for it to get to block 3 stage with all the stealth features including pointed exhaust nozzles with thrust vectoring.
Beautiful jet!
It seems to tick a lot of boxes. I think the Koreans have built a winner here. I like it!
Cool looking jet fighter!
Very sweet looking aircraft! I bet it will outperform anything the north has. Cannot wait to see more of this airplane.
"Dad, can we have F-22?"
"No honey we have F-22 at home."
F-22 at home:
it kind of looks like a mix of an f-22, f-15 and f-35. i dig it
@@gripen777 I would be fond of it, if it wouldn't be a waste of taxpayer money.
@@DefinitelyNotEmma for a nation that has a hostile neighbor to the North, and being right smack in a continuously volatile geopolitics situation, I sincerely do not think that a new jet fighter for defence is a waste of tax payer money.
@@internalport8776 Most Korean citizens are quite happy with the new jet. Great for propaganda.
@@internalport8776 That's why the F-35 is purchased.
Nobody will buy the KF-21 and the development costs will never be recovered. Most countries will rather choose the F-35 if they can afford it, otherwise newer F-16 variants, Su-35s, MiG-35s, the future Su-75 and J-35 from Russia and China respectively.
I am happy that it's South Korea, because it's a great allies with the US!!!
Bro needs to do a vid on the Mitsubishi SpaceJet or the up and coming Mitsubishi/BAE 6th gen fighter
Looking at its design I think ot could be hest described as stealth capable. From memory there is work on developing stealth cruise missiles, i imagine that those technologies could be used to make stealthy ground attack weapons. That combined with the potential for internal weapons bays seams to be an excellent stop gap. Allowing for upgrading the aircraft after they have a need for true stealth in the future.

4:53 that's not true. There is a space specifically reserved for internal weapons bay and it will be utilized in Block 3. Blocks 1 and 2 will be a heavily armed multirole fighter with external hard points and Block 3 and on will be full stealth with internal weapons bay. The program will have both, just like F22 and F35 do. Both F22 and F35 can be configured and become non-stealth with external hard points configuration.
This will be the steady seller for the counties who can not afford to buy expensive American fighter jets.
Someone already mentioned one of the main readons of developing.
I'd like to add another main reason is that all American jet fighters require certificate if South Korea Air Force want to install their own missile or equipments.
Building their own fight jet, they don't need to ask anyone's approval. It's their own fight jet, they can do whatever they want to do.
You fail to realize, my friend, that America is in charge of all of its allies. The allies do what America tells them to do. America runs N.A,T.O Most of N.A.T.O's citizens hate America. It's their government and the wealthy citizens that love America.
That's just an F22 - minus the vector thrust system?
And an internal weapons bay
@Louis Vanguard making it just your typical, vanilla 4.5th gen fighter lmao
It's probably the best 4++ gen fighter
Funny thing is that one of the civilian branch of KAI developed the thrust vectoring technology for space rockets last year.
Korean Design, hybrid of F-22 and F-35, with consultation of Lockheed Martin as contractor. It is deliberately designed to be better than F-35, but shy of F-22 which is way too expensive for any nation to operate except USA. KF-21 will be a work horse for South Korea with lower maintenance cost. Lockheed Martin cannot transfer all the technology due to US law, so Korea had to design much on their own and support from Lockheed. First batch will be roughly 70% design ownership by Koreans, remaining 30% will be licensed production with engine being biggest import from US.
It looks like a stealthy F-16 with two rudders!
I like it!

As an American, I love this jet. ESP it’s design and I’m glad Korea knows the importance of a good inexpensive reliable jet
its just the f22
@@bru123kama Did you notice the exposed weapon hardpoints on the KF-21? A 5th gen stealth fighter, which the F-22 is and the KF-21 isn't, has internal weapons to achieve the extremely low RCS numbers of the F-35 and especially the F-22. Even the low rent SU-57 has internal weapon bays though its RCS is nowhere as good as even the F-35 much less the F-22. That said, the KF-21 could evolve into a remarkable weapons truck to complement South Korea's F-35 fleet of 40+ units.
