WARNING DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS TYPE OF HARD DRIVE RECOVERY & REPAIR YOURSELF WITHOUT A CLEAN ROOM: A short video, behind the scenes in a clean room environment on hard drive repair involving beeping sounds on a hard drive that will not recognize in disk manager (if your drive has clicking sounds there is a high probability that the heads are bad - requires the same process as seen here).
WE DO NOT PROMOTE OR SUGGEST DIY ATTEMPTS AT HARD DRIVE RECOVERY AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY RESULTS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO
This Western Digital IDE drive required the head stack to be replaced with donor parts from a known working drive. The heads had crashed on the platter and were pulled from the assembly.
We were concerned there was damage on the platter from the crash, however after swapping parts, the drive was 100% recoverable.

i really like how you made sure us viewers had a clear line of sight , great demo vid , thank you
Hello, thank you for the very well made informative video, great work!
I wanted to ask if the donor drive needs to be the same capacity as the original?
I want to do this exact same swap on a 1TB My Passport Ultra.
I dropped mine from 6 inches onto it's edge onto concrete floor, the unfortunate thing was that it was plugged into my Laptop at the time and running.
Any tips besides the separators in minimizing a chance to scratch the platters?
Thanks Again!
Thanks for your system
Did you use any special software to scan/repair the drive after you swapped the heads, or did you just connect it and transfer the data via copying to another hard drive?
This is a good question. We get many drives that are severely damaged, and never should be able to be recovered. With these drives, we have to use special data recovery hardware in order to image it. To specifically answer your question though, the very next step after a head swap is getting a good image of the drive. We use special Hardware for this. Using a Windows or even a Linux machine to run software to do this can be very risky.
Hello, I have a WD my passport ultra 4Tb, 2017 version, it suddenly made a very light sound like 2 times every few minutes, It shows the partition on my macbook pro but with no files!! Can I just use a data recovery files program to recover my files or do I need to put back the head to it's place if that was the case?
What kind of material you can used for separate the Writer Head.....
+raggie nellas there are tools available online through data recovery companies, or you can get creative. If you don't have experience with head swaps or a clean room I would not recommend doing this kind of repair as most engineers when learning mess up the first handful of drives rendering them useless for good.
looks like your not showing all the screws to remove? my drive had several screws holding the head to the drive. otherwise they would just fall out. WHY did you not show the attached screws being removed?
I have WD external HDD which stopped working after little fall, since i don't have any important data, i opened the hdd , tried to put head to the beginning with the platter clockwise trick but the head won't goes to the start position, that orange thing to support the head won't let me to push more back...
seems like you edited part of this video. those magnets don't just come off that easily with a tweezers
My Wd Hard drive is coming up on my laptop when i plug it in and then when i try to go in a folder it sticks for a while.
Can you help me please?
This drive is either in the process of failing or failed. Could be a few different things. If you cannot move any data off it, turn it off and stop trying because it will only make it worse. Make sure to call a reputable DATA RECOVERY specialist company (not computer repair or IT company read about the difference here: www.sertdatarecovery.com/myths/how-pc-repair-it-oem-can-help-with-data-recovery) because it's going to require special hardware that is very expensive to get the data off without making the drive worse. Software will kill it and cause it to either be unrecoverable or be very expensive. At this point I would say it would probably qualify for our basic recovery which utilizes the hardware I am talking about. Our Basic rates are super affordable.
If you have a donor drive, would it be worth swapping the circuit board before risking opening it up?
Just wondered how likely the clicking sound could be something other than the heads?
Thanks for the video, really interesting to see your approach.
great question. FIRST OFF the drive should never be opened if there is valuable data on the drive. Leave that to the professionals please or you will ruin your chances of recovery. The clicking sound is definitely not always or even most of the time caused by failed heads. It is the read write assembly arm that is making the clicking sound, but that doesnt mean the heads are bad, and DEFINITELY NEVER A REASON TO OPEN THE LID OF A HARD DRIVE.
Hey, I've got a Western Digital WD800JB 80GB HD, and about three weeks ago I started noticing clicking coming from my case, no beeping though. I've had the drive for about 2 years, and never heard this noise before. Is this a sign my drive is failing?
@David Yes this is a sign that you need to back up your data IMMEDIATELY. Especially with the age of this drive, any clicking is not good and eventually the drive will become unrecognized.
Hello.
I have a WD Elements 500Gb portable hdd with some problems.
When connected to the PC it's recognised but not accessible.
I have tried opening it to see if it could be connected to the MoBo, but i noticed with disappointment that there are no SATA connectors at all but, next to the USB3.0 port, i can see some pins on both sides.
Do you know if i can find some adapters to connect it anyway?
Yes this PCB has USB port on it as well as self encrypting capability. You will need professional equipment to fix this issue. The most important thing to know is what caused it. Depending on the cause and the problem keeping it powered on can cause irreparable damage.
I suspected that.
Thank you for your support.
hey hi. my WD hard drive stopped working and after watching some videos, i opened it, well the hards are not stuck but it can not read, when i plug it on, it starts rotating but there is a small click sound after it rotates for some seconds and then its slows down to a stop. i tried cleaning the connectors but it still cant read nor continue rotating.
Drives shouldn't opened unless you really know what you're doing, as even the incorrect case screw pressure is enough to damage the drive.
I really need to know what size torcx screw driver i need for the screws bc they are really really small. Can anyone help out?

@@Sertdatarecovery can u fix the platter on other disc?
Hi, I'm in the process of changing the head of my disk, I'd like to know, I had the click of death problem and when I opened it I saw a scratch along the inner circle of the top platter, it seems that the arm that was clicking has done that scratch, should I continue the head switch or the disk is pretty done? Thanks
When there is damage to the platter from the heads the only thing a head swap will do is kill the heads. In cases where there are head crashes that result in rings on the platter, the data is not recoverable. Sorry...
ok :( I saw this guy from a restore shop able to skip the scratched section watch?v=n1OcTKDjO2g is that an unreachable solution for DIY stuff? This guy probably had programmed himself an app for doing this or have you ever heard of similar kind of app?
Otherwise I have this drive I wanted to use as replacement disk that I could use for storage or throw it in the garbage. I opened it for the switching, I read there were a gas in the hdds to keep it cold, since I opened it the gas might have gone, is this drive still usable without gas?
ryukishisama for that drive in the suggested video, it would take multiple sets of heads to determine which LBA that scratch started and ended at. This also requires specialized hardware. This drive you are working on should never be used again for anything, even if the data was recoverable.
SERT Data Recovery ok the two drive are done? The old broken one I understand, but why the new one (that I opened for replacement but never touched because I saw the scratch) because of the gas that has leaked?
hi, I have 3 x 4TB Western Digital External Hard Drives full of family pics& videos. 2 of them are backups for the other two. Now they are all ticking. Any videos on how to find out what is wrong with them and how to fix them or extract the data.
Why would you want to risk losing these files and doing this yourself? The only way to know whats wrong is to have a very expensive recovery machine that will give you error codes and other details not available about a hard drive any other way.
What kind of material you can used for separate the Writer Head, showing above in your upload video, i think ??????? pls pls pls
raggie nellas I cannot disclose our proprietary ways of performing our services. You can certainly research it on google and look for head combs.
thanks!!!!
hey bro, can u help me.. i can't format my wd my passport 2 tb either using cmd.. so can u help solve my problem...because the service cntre too far from my hometown to claim warranty...hope u can gi me some advices...
If the drive has problems that is preventing it from being formatted or being recognized there is not much to recommend to fix it. I would not even suggest trusting that drive to continue to use. Try to format it on another computer and if you cannot then there is a problem with the drive.
How critical is it if one can't get the 100% identical model hd? E.g. for a head from a hd with P/N: WDBLUZ0010 would also work a head from a hd with e. g. a P/N: WDBLUXXXXX or is there different way of typing the hds?
we have our own proprietary way of matching donor drives. Many times you need a really expensive piece of equipment in order to obtain certain details necessary to be absolutely positive.
I tried initializing my 1 TB WD passport ultra and it always says FATAL DEVICE HARDWARE ERROR. Do I still have a chance in recovering all those files saved there?( I've just had that hard drive a year ago)
If you get professional help maybe.
WD Passport. When I plug it in the light flashes and I hear 4-5 ticks followed by nothing. The light stays on but my computer does not detect anything. It is toast?
The ticks are a bad sign, but with the proper process the drive may be recoverable. We have recovered Passports with this symptom. My question to you is was it dropped or bumped or did it suffer from any kind of impact or jolt?
I'm afraid because for some reason, when I have multiple stuff open at once, I can hear what's going on the hard drive like the heads moving back and forth almost continuously like decently quickly or something (Like heads working normally, but more noticeable) and it's not clicking, beeping or anything, but when I close stuff, it doesn't make that noise that worries me anymore. I can't tell if it's a normal process or not. (Sounds like it) I tried opening random files and the performance is okay. Almost sounds kinda soft buzzy when listening it closely. But sometimes it will stop doing that after a while or doesn't do that.
Back up all your important files. AFTER doing that if the drive is more than 2 years old, or if the laptop has taken any physical impact or abuse at all, you may want to look into having it replaced before it dies on you. We have a great encrypted cloud backup and file sharing service where we are running some great deals this month. If you are interested please feel free to call 1-800-553-5738, and we can get you setup the same day. Back up your files before your hard drive crashes!

LONG COMMENT ALERT!
I just want to know how to fix the problem of the hard drive doing the normal process thing louder than it should be. (Was not the case when a week ago and more) My hard drive is still in working condition. I am using a WD 500 GB Green Hard Drive, my dad formatted it before putting into my new desktop computer that my dad built 2 *months* ago which I am still using today. (Not years, but a couple months)
I start getting worried when my microphone fell off of the kitchen table and into the front of the computer case, but thank god, it didn't do anything to the hard drive. (Which was in the back of the computer, at least where the noise is indicating) After looking up on a specific video, like "HDD Clicking normally" then I didn't get worried anymore. Because it sounds exactly like in the video. Just search that and you know what video I'm talking about. Hard Drive being louder, well, that's a thing. Even though it doesn't do it every time. (Maybe, after a few days, it won't do that anymore)
I'm sorry if you didn't understand, I am one of those people that doesn't explain stuff very well.
Also, I only have 1 Hard Drive in my computer. My dad's old external hard drive (Seagate, maybe) a month ago, does like clock-ticking clicking, even though it's not plugged into the computer. I heard that while I am on the computer, after a while, I moved the external hard drive away from me, because it won't shut up. I only used to transfer it to my files to the WD 500 GB Green hard drive, but it was before it started clicking. (Which caused by being it upside down on the floor for some reason)
Is there a way to stop the loud normal process sound? Most of the time, it doesn't do that, but rarely I can hear the head moving back and forth super fast and the fix of the problem is to close all the applications and wait for a few seconds and then it stops doing that. I wish I had a hard disk muffler, but it will probably make it so I can not hear clicking that I may get in a year or more. So, why does it do that? It's like a hard drive is a few inches away from me, even though it's inside the desktop computer case itself. The sound is not actually effecting the hard drive, it is running just fine. It sometimes do that when I have applications running and then after a while, the loud part of the normal process noise will go away. So, it's a temporary kind of thing. (Before you say so, it doesn't sound like grinding at all) I can't tell if it's the fans or the hard drive.
I would just backup the files and possibly change out the hard drive, or don't worry about it if the files aren't important
SERT Data Recovery
Any solutions to stop it? I heard that it's only happening to WD Hard Drives. Like WD Black is the most noisiest. I am just getting annoyed with the sound. It's doing that for a month total now. I say total is because most of time I don't notice the noise when I have earphones on. I really can't explain very well and I am 15 years old. Just to note, it's a hecking WD Green *desktop* hard drive.
Hi I have wd ultra passport that I bought a week ago .Was working fine till it disconnected improperly and fell to the floor.now it doesn't show or mount in my computer.only shows in device manager and I hear a beep once every 5-10 mins when it's plugged in .i heard wacking it while it is plugged in my get it to work and cause the head to become unstuck .any ideas?
If there is data on it then you will want to send it out to a professional. But there is high likelihood the data is destroyed since you have turned it on since it fell. If there is damage to the heads then they have probably damaged the platter.
SERT Data Recovery Where can I purchase the head separators to prevent them from sticking?
Fritz J all you have to do is search online or make your own. Honestly though I don't suggest you doing anything on your own on a drive that has data that means anything to you, especially outside of a clean room environment. www.sertdatarecovery.com/hard-drive-recovery/class-100-clean-room
Hi, does anyone know how to fix a WD Elements new HD not detected on any laptops when connected?
Of course we do :)
i have a seagate barracuda 3tb drive which i have removed from my imac it was running very slow and struggling to find data and eventually the computer stopped booting. i have since removed from the machine and have it plugged in via an external sata power supply and it powers on spins beeps one time then powers down. there is nothing on the drive i am that worried about loosing i removed the top of the drive to see if the head was stuck and it was in the park position. i didnt power it on with the top off as im told this will destroy the data entirely. i cant find any explanation for the drive to power down other than potentially a faulty power board. Any ideas?
If there is no data on the drive worth saving, I would move on to another drive and count that one as a paper weight....
it was more for my own curiosity to be honest. just wondered what would cause the drive to power on and then power off. the beep is quite loud when it happens its not a click sounds a lot more like a beep. just wondered if it was something you had come across before. if it was the pcb theyre pretty easy to get hold of for very little cost but if its the head then yes it would make a lovely book case end
Not necessarily the PCB if it's running slow... otherwise we would need to hook it up to the diagnostics machine to diagnose it further...
hi there
my wd external hard drive has problem ,
1 shows offline in disk management
2 write protected
3 unallocated , please give me any solution
You more than likely have a serious issue with the drive, whether mechanically or firmware. This type of recovery requires advanced tools as well as potentially a clean room.
My drive gets detected in bios but doesn't get reckognized. It appears as "Sata channel: " showing a blank space instead of "Sata channel: None" . When I select it in bios there's no details. The drive itself makes no noise at all but starts getting hot if its plugged for a while. What problem do u think it has?
What i tried:
- Tried different, ports, cables, and in 3 different computers ( in 2 of them didnt show up at all in bios). Tried through USB aswell but nothing.
- I opened it to see if the head was on the platter but it was in correct position.
- I bought 2 identical drives, one of them is for practice, the other one is in proper working order. I tried swapping the PCBs but i get the same results.
So now the only hope i have is to transplant the heads using the working drive as a donor. I've been practicing alot, but the spacer part is pretty hard. Inside its excatly like the drives in this video, so im guessing it will be this exact procedure.
Do u have any suggestions what could i try? and also im using pill foil as a spacer, does it matter if the foil touches the heads?
This drive is likely suffering from a firmware issue that can only be fixed with very expensive specialized data recovery equipment that can access the service area of the drive and manipulate it's modules. The equipment allows an engineer to access the drive on the manufacturers level and make changes or repairs. Heat is always a drive's worse enemy and should be controlled as much as possible. Letting it get too hot will cause the heads to crash on the platter eventually as they float on the air produce by the rotation of the platters. Heat and air don't play nice together.....
could you please explain a little more what kind of equipment do u mean specifically and by "access the drive on the manufactures level" do you mean physically opening the drive or are u talking about software programs?
and also do you think a platter swap would work in this case?
I did a successful heads transplant but didnt work.
harmonica PC 3000, its a couple of thousand dollars
Hi my external hard drive was making clicking noise now it's beeping please help
You will want to turn it off, unplug it and get it to a data recovery company with a certified clean room so they can inspect the inside of the drive. Do not open it yourself unless the data does not matter to you, you will risk losing everything.
A friend of mine was using my drive, WD the passport ultra 1 TB, and it kinda fell from the table, didn't hit the ground but was hanging and after that,it stopped working.it wouldn't open. I took it to a repairing shop near my university and that person opened it up and then checked it. He didn't do much and told me to send it to the shop from where i bought it. I did that and they said it needs head replacement for recovering the data.
I brought it back as i didn't have enough money that time. I plugged it on my laptop and for some reason i was able to see a few folders in the drive. Rest are not visible but i can see that there is 631GBs of space remaining in the drive, which i couldn't see before. I wanted to at least get the data that i could see and transfer it to my Seagate drive but the process was very slow so i cancelled it. I wanna know how much would it cost to recover my data?
Also, before taking it to the shop i purchased the drive,i could hear ticking but after i got it back,i couldn't hear it anymore and also i was able to open it.
My hard drive is weird. Some one gave me my pc, and the hard drive was CLEANED. Nothing on it. We put an OS on it, got it up working, then the hard drive got REALLY loud. then some strange beeping noise happened when I would get on the internet. Strange, huh? Well, it became quiet after a while. Should I be cautious of it failing? and data lose?
Are you sure it was the hard drive making the noises?
i get 4 beep sounds 5 time and after gret error no bootable device .by hdd also WD
Elmir Səlimov there is likely a problem with the read write head assembly, or bad heads. You will need to get this to a professional with a certified clean room that is experienced in making head swaps, and/or has the advanced equipment needed to diagnose it on that level.
how much cost solve this problem.i tryed to solve this problem some time.but couldn't solve
sorry my english
Elmir Səlimov It depends on what size the drive is and what you did to try to solve it.
i just recently got the no boot device error on my laptop had to fully replace my hard drive🙁
RIP eardrums
:) turn down your volume for the explosion :)
do you not have volume ?
hey I have Lenovo y50 70 and it's we black hard drive making sounds beeping 2 times and laptop do not recognize it. I tried and head were stick on a platter and solved them but then too sound was coming and nothing happened so can it be fixed
You opened the drive and moved the heads inside and now the drive is making a different sound and still does not work?
SERT Data Recovery yes
There is a good chance that the platters are damaged from moving it and definitely the heads.
I have a died WD 320 gb , and I can't hear any noise or anything at all , what's the problem?
It's hard to say without having the drive and being able to diagnose. Could be a power problem.
I have a western digital hard drive and I removed the head off the platter (successfully without scratching). I plug it back into the laptop and it spins, but is still not recognized. What do I do?
Assuming everything else went perfect, the drive probably has a firmware problem as well. You will need a really expensive piece of equipment ($7k) to correct it.
So what else can I try on my end? Moving the head back into place is what I keep seeing as the solution. The platter spins normal with no noise since I've done that.
You need this equipment to diagnose it, and also to fix it for data recovery. You can send it in if you would like us to help you. Its a good sign that the platter spins normal and no noise since you moved the heads, however there is an additional issue (likely the firmware).
I have a Wd passport ultra I was transferring videos from my laptop to my passport ultra when an error 0x800701e3 fatal error occupied I can't transfer anything for a majority of the time and sometimes it let me transfer some video and photos than I uninstalled the passport ultra on my computer and when I plugged it back in to my laptop and my desktop it in my computers but the folder won't load I don't know what to do to solve the problem with my Wd passport ultra
It sounds like the problem is getting worse. I would not plug it in any more. It has either failing heads, damaged platters, or corrupted firmware. You will need to contact someone that has hardware specifically made for data recovery on hard drives. Software will kill your drive.
i have a seagate backup plus portable external hard drive 1TB , when i connect it to my laptop it's indicator light is blinking continuously and it's not shown anywhere in my laptop, i have checked in disk management but it's not detected there too......can anyone tell me how to get it back to work.
You will likely not be able to fix this without very expensive recovery technology. Is it clicking?
My WD10SPCX 1TGB has big sound and the laptop has problem is turn to blue screen and doesn't work. But if I put my laptop 90/180 degree it has NO sound and work well. Could you give advise for my HDD?thanks you!
what kind of sound?
drive.google.com/file/d/0B3Lr9JGItaX0V2ZFTFJPTjBUeXBHdzdIdlRHNWt4RFNqYk9B/view?usp=sharing
Could you check this file. when i put the laptop at 90 degree, i ll have no hdd sound
I'am sure that's HDD sound after open the laptop
back up your data and get the drive switched out for a new western digital black, no more than a 750G OR better yet whatever size SSD you need. :) grinding is never good and we had a drive like that before and soon after it failed catastrophically (non recoverable - of course AFTER the data was moved safely off the drive)
Does water damage data? My computer got water damage because of my dad spilling water and I am afraid of the data being gone. After the water damage occurred I saw the lights from the monitor not show up is a sign of my computer will not turn until if I unplug and wait for 2 and a half hours.
I would remove the hard drive from the computer and see if it looks wet. Water can damage platters after time and depending on conditions.
SERT Data Recovery
I stand corrected. My computer and my hard drive did survive. -But my network driver is like gone. I tried add legacy hardware and it said device can not start, but got installed.- Fixed it by replugging in to a 2.0 port instead of 3.0 port.
Good morning, am a photographer, my hard drive fail down and stopped booting. i watched your video and tried to fix it my self and now its not even spinning like it was before. pls what should i do?
LEONARD OBIORA This video is not meant to be a tutorial to do it yourself. What exactly did you do?
Lol did you opened the drive in your dirty basement? Dude please do you know how these drivers are made? You need a billion dollar facility
I hate WD. It sucks. I have two drive from them and both have big issues.
All drives have big issues, luckily for you, you have WD! WD are more reliable when it comes to recovery, and parts malfunctioning causing the drive to be unrecoverable...
How much would it cost for a repair of HDD with physical damage.... It has clicking noise which repeats again and again..... Price for repair please 🙏
Thank you

Sir I have 500 Gb Western Digital cavier green internal hard drive. I tried to copy 13gb File from Drive 1.To Drive 2. But After Copying Few Mb,s my PC hangs I wait for some time But It still remained hanged.i power off the Pc And Restarted it But Now Pc is Not Detecting My Second Hard drive It Has so many important Data Please Tell me how To solve the Problem. I have changed the Sata Cables with the new ones but Still Its not working hard drive motor is working and There is no clicking sounds in the hard drive Please Tell me How To solve The Problem
Hey, I have WD My passport 1 TB WD10JMVW, it was clicking then suddenly the computer cant read it, when I connect it it shown that it has connected but nothing shown in My computer, also it is appear in Device Manager but with capacity zero
I tried all the software recovery on the internet until they told me it is HW problem, could you tell me what should I do?
When ever a drive is clicking or making noises other than the typical healthy whirring sound there is most definitely a mechanical or physical problem with the drive. Running software should only be used in the event of deleted files or a reformat. The first thing that must be done is determine why it is clicking which requires special (and expensive) data recovery hardware/utility. Then that must be repaired before making an image of the drive. If the data is worth anything to you then I would send it to a professional recovery service to ensure the proper and safe recovery of your files.
Yeas it worth, so please send for me
Ahmed Aboelazm We'll be glad to help you with that. If you want us so take a look at it please fill this out fo you know what the cost might be if we get your files back: secure.sertdatarecovery.com/secure-online-estimate
my WD passport ultra suddenly doesn't show up in my computer. it is unallocated in disk manager, and offline. shld I try right clicking it, to change offline to online, it just gives me i/o error....
There is likely a firmware or mechanical problem with the drive that requires special equipment to work with in order to get the data. Is the data critical? We can take a look at it for you if it is.
SERT Data Recovery I am in Singapore. that be too far for me to send over ...... thx for the help offered......
is there anything I could do to test if it is actually hardware or software issues?
Sorry if it dropped it will be a hardware issue, or internal software *microcode" corruption.
can it be done without swap any part?
mohd amri can you please specify what "it" is?
The click sound damage. I have problem with clicking sound ,I'm from malaysia and I dont know where to repair my hard drive and the cost. I would like to try it by my own. Sorry if bad english. Thank you for reply.
mohd amri Clicking does not automatically mean you have bad heads that need to be replaced. Clicking can come from corrupt firmware as well. I would not suggest trying to replace parts in a drive on your own, there are very few professional companies that are able to do this successfully.
It's there any solution for me to repair my external hard drive?
mohd amri the only way we could answer that for you is to have it here where we can diagnose the drive to see what is causing the clicking noises.
Western Digital Data Recovery with Clicking Beeping Sounds
hi sir.
my wd 3 Harddisk is not dictated.
not spinning
same time three Harddisk is not dictated.
my 3 ded Harddisk same model WD10EZEX
I do not know how it happened but three hard disks stopped working together
Inside the hard disk, I have lots of imported data of weddings.
wd has 3 hard disks.
The three hard disks were engaged in the same computer and got damaged together. I shut down the computer well, I got up in the morning and the computer did not run then I had checked the check but nothing was known. help me plz sir i request u.
Was this in a RAID array?
my Seagate external hard-disk beeps 4 time and stop, my pc or laptop doesn't detect it it has suffered some mechanical failure Something is broken inside the hard-disk because when i shake by hdd a little i can hear some metal is clanging and makes sound
shouldn't hear anything moving or clanging inside the hard drive. Really shouldn't be shaking it too hard either. The beeping can mean a couple things, but if it's not spinning there is something definitely going on inside. You don't want to keep putting power to it any more, and hopefully haven't left it sitting with power to it for very long. This drive is going to need to be opened in a certified clean room, and inspected.
+SERT Data Recovery thanks for quick reply if i was in your country i would have send my hdd to yoy
+shubham sharma you*
I have never had problems before But now my WD my passport 500gb small drive not only is not recognized by ANY computer, nor is it even acknowledged by the computer although the light steadily blinks like normal signaling that its on, I do not hear the disk spin, I'm worried its broken, I don't know what is wrong with it, I live in california, any idea where i would send my drive to , and do you have an idea on what the problem is, THE DATA IS VERY IMPORTANT! --No clicking noise
+Hop The Border Productions sorry for the late response. Your drive is probably suffering form damaged or corrupt firmware modules. We recover these types of drives pretty much on a daily basis, and can help you.
SERT Data Recovery i live in modesto california, How can i fix it?
+Hop The Border Productions You won't be able to unless you have the equipment a data recovery firm has. We do provide free shipping to SERT and have many many clients from California.
SERT Data Recovery i would love to but iim a little concerned about mailing something that has precious data on it all the way to florida
+Hop The Border Productions I understand. We receive drives all the time from all kinds of clients that have sensitive and most important data on them. If you are concerned with the mail, which we haven't ever had a problem with, you can try to find a local firm that you can drive to. I would say 85% of our clients mail us their recovery cases.
My HD was working yesterday and all of a sudden it started making click noises like a time bomb! and now I can't open my HD. All my datas are stored on that HD please is there a solution to fix it?
+Khalifa Khoori Did you find a solution? I am in deep shit now
+Nirnaya Bhatta no i didn't :( i took it to a computer shop and ask them if they can recover my data. They said the HD us dead and it is impossible to recover the data. The funny thing us, when i showed my HD to him he laughed and showed me two WD passport HDs similar to mine with the same issue lol he said WD is goid fir internal HD, if you want an external one go for other brand.
+Khalifa Khoori The solution most likely lies within a $9K piece of equipment that can work with the internal software of the drive. Without it it may not be recoverable. We work on WD all the time with this issue, and it is regularly this situation.
+Khalifa Khoori Most people don't look at hard drive reliability from the right perspective. Most WD models are the most durable, recoverable HD made when it comes to head and firmware problems. Seagates tend to have platter damage too easily from failed heads and re often not recoverable because of this.
+Khalifa Khoori Thanks you. That incident is really funny- although I will try to fix it. Cheers.
My 2GB WD took a Shit...now its clicking and making noises. im gonna have to send it some place to get it fixed
Have you found someone to help you with this? I apologize for the delay to your comment!
my hard disk clicks 3 times and then stop what dose it mean
vishnu swaroop probably bad read/write heads
+SERT Data Recovery hey my HDD does a scraping noise every 7-8 seconds and my pc fails to boot up.. it goes to Verifying DMI pool and then loops the proces.. is it dead?
Crash Dummy It sounds like the heads may have made contact with the platters. This is never good. I would not run it any longer, and if the data is important get it to a clean room so an engineer can evaluate it to see if it is "dead", or if there is a chance for recovery. Only a trained engineer can tell answer your question after having a look at it.
SERT Data Recovery I had no time for that. I saved the important data before the HDD died on a flash, then i smashed it with a maul :D
I need your service.

first open this hard drive
While playing some game,it bugged and i couldnt exit the process so I forced restart over button. What happened next is I heared clicking sound and the windows wont start loading. After few tries the clicking sound didnt appear but my pc reported on start "Unable to boot from disk, please insert system disk and press enter to continue".Is my hard drive dead or I just need to reinstal new fresh OS.
I wouldn't say your hard drive is dead. It sounds like the error might be referring to OS corruption, and supported by Windows trying to load but failing into an error message. The clicking sound coming from your drive can mean the drive is failed, or failing, however some hard drives make a few clicking noises normally on startup. When a drive is failing, but still operational, it can cause corruption to certain areas of files or a file system. If the right sectors, in the right place on a hard drive go bad, the operating system will not boot. Too many of these sectors on a drive can cause it to click by corrupting the firmware.
A few questions about the hard drive:
1. Is it still clicking?
2. Does it boot up now?
3. How old is it?
4. What Make Model is it?
5. Do you have any data on it you will miss when it dies?
On the flip side, you may need to do a OS repair install, but if your drive is failing so will that, and it will make things worse.
It is normal SATA samsung hdd, using it for over 4 years. It stopped clicking after few startups but it wont boot so i sent to some firm to check it out.It may be dead or it may be unstable to use after using to play computer games on it for over 4 years.Good thing i dont have any important files on it.I will let you know what will happen after.
I'm being charged £500 to £700😣
i got my hdd in the mail and instantly doesnt even power
From the manufacturer?
Maybe if you idiots back up your data to multiple hard drives.... LOL. My data is backed up to more than 6 hard drives. I've had multiple hard drives fail and my data is still up and kickin!
Yes backing up data is the best way to avoid data loss. But not sure "idiot" is the right word. :) People just do not understand data recovery or backup. We have a great cloud solution that will make sure you are backing up all the time.
i had 3 hard drives, they all went bad the same day. Funny enough, that same day i was having a laugh about it. So yeah watch your back, cause destiny might be there. And if destiny wants to fuck you, it will, you and your hard drives army, no matter how many they are.
Western digital is trash. Corrupted my files on PS4 and now every time I plug my western digital hard drive in it freezes the PS4
Because is it failing...
don't ever buy WD products! !#!###
+Nina T what do you base this on?
All of my WD drives have broke over the years
