  • This is a video filmed by Paddy Brady, who had the foresight to record the demolition of the St Louis Convent Clones back in 1999. He has given us a valuable record for the Clones Archives.
This building graced the hill on the Roslea Road for practically all of the 20th Century.
This blog from the Clones Parish Website gives some background to the St Louis Sisters and their connection with Clones. www.clonesparis...
The video begins with a number of stills showing the convent in it’s former glory. We then see the sad degradation that occurred to the convent house during its abandoned years, and only just prior to its demolition. Paddy has taken some great footage of the entire exterior of the building and we get to see how substantial this property really was. There are some night shots which give an eerie indicatication to what was about to happen to this majestic building. We then get to see the actual demolition of the centre of the house which also contained the bell tower. Finally, all that is left is a strangely deceiving small footprint and only memories of what used to be.
I’d like to say a big Thank You to Paddy Brady for this unique and priceless record.
