- I fell for the marketing and bought the new DJI FPV drone. In this video I fly it for the first time. Spoiler: It's a lot of fun. If you're interested, the DJI FPV can be found here -

Definitely the drone I will keep if I only get to keep one.
It’s a great drone!
The silly motion controller you mentioned is a whole other experience, and I suggest you buy it because it will change the whole game for you.
You’re the second person to say that. I may have been wrong!
I can't wait to see how you incorporate that into future videos.
I’m looking forward to using it more!
Why would you buy an FPV drone for cinematic shots? Do you buy a ferrari because it's comfortable?
You wouldn’t, but not everyone is going to want to take or buy two drones! It’s definitely a compromise between the cinematic and true FPV drones.
You got that right. DJI FPV = FUN
Definitely!
the silly motion controller thing is awesome......you should really try it! it truly is a remarkable immersive experience combined with the headset. almost like flying a jet plane.
Is it? It seemed like such a gimmick, and all of the RUclipsrs showed about 30 seconds of it before moving on! Now that you say it’s like flying a plane I can see it could add to the fun of it!
@@RevereOverland I should have been a little less dramatic about the description......a more precise representation is.....once well experienced with the hand movements and your fine motor skills/knowledge is well developed, its is like flying a conventional plane with a very slight delay between the flight hand controller response and drone movement. Once you gain experience and become use to this as well, the emersion experience comes flooding in more so than when you first flew the drone...it becomes second nature and you begin to think that you will not fly anything else and start locking up your drone so that no one else takes it from you......LOL
Lol! I know what you mean. As soon as the battery gets low I throw it back on charge so I can fly it again. I’m really looking forward to getting out and traveling with it!
@@RevereOverland Get the fly more combo, must have. (2x batts, 3x charger.)
@@foam27 I didn't buy extra batteries initially, because I wasn't sure I'd like it. I'll definitely have to order some more now!
I got one.... and I enjoy it Alot !!! I don't fly it like I used too with my built quads, but now I fly it like I've dreamed too when I first got into the hobby. For a long time, further range, and clear video.
👍👍👍
Great video! Can I buy just the controller and use it to practice flying with the virtual flight app? Thanks
You can, but the goggles and controller are really expensive by themselves. At that stage, you might as well get the drone too!
Thank you. I always wanted a FPV drone too. I hesitated for our same reasons. Great review!
I think for people like us, this is perfect!
What do you think of the $100 drones for basic scouting of roads? Are they suitable at all for amateur youtube videos?
They are disappointing, if you do not go into it with expectations of what you see on RUclips you'll get what you get but I have a feeling you'll be disappointed I was.
@@jamesolbrisch2582 Thank you. I don't expect much. I really just got mine to scout ahead on roads. I've seen footage from the cheap ones and it's not very good.
For amateur video for RUclips the cheapest I’d recommend is the DJI Mavic Mini or Mini 2.
@@RevereOverland That's what I was thinking. Thank you.
I’m still running my phantom 3 pro 😂😂 I’m so behind
Still a good drone!
I still fly mine P3P lol it's a good stable platform, it has taken a back seat to my mavic pro though.
I’m still flying the phantom 3 4k
Same as me:)
How would you compare the video quality on the fpv vs the pro 2?
The Mavic 2 Pro is far superior. It’s like comparing a Mirrorless camera to a cell phone or action camera. That being said, it’s great at what it does!
I hope you have good luck with it alot of people I know are disappointed by the DJI fpv
I think the people disappointed are the true FPV pilots. The true FPV drones aren’t suitable for what I do though! The only thing I’d like to see is a slightly better camera.
That's what it's all about after all right? And I think you are right the guys who build and fly thier own FPV drones were the biggest detractors
Can you fly it without your phone connected at all?
Yes, you don’t use your phone to fly it.
Good information. I am a beginner and currently do not have a drone but really want one. I am also on a pretty tight budget. What would you recommend for someone like me? Thanks.
A DJI Mavic Mini or DJI Mini 2 are good choices! This is a LOT of fun, but not really budget friendly.
How did you spend all day flying it if you only had 1 battery? 3:28
I charged it! It takes about as long to charge it up again.
@@RevereOverland Wow, I didn't realize it was a 10-15 minute recharge!
It’s probably closer to 20-30 minutes, but it depends on how low you let it go before charging up again.
It’s been 3 months since this was posted. How is the balance of usage for this drone working out for you? Using it more, less or about as much as you expected? (Saw some great footage from Utah in another video you posted!) 😀
A little less. It’s still super fun to fly, but doesn’t fit in with most of my videos. We recently went to the salt flats where it was perfect though.
@@RevereOverland appreciate the update. I’m debating a drone this holiday season. It’ll be our first and I’ll use it for camping/overlanding footage. I want to to follow us, I was clarity and I want a steady shot. Less concerned about 4K per se, less concerned about “cool” factors. More concerned about survivability, broad usefulness and ease of deployment. I figure they all have a learning curve, so I’ll have to learn a bunch of new stuff, so might as well focus on my end goals - I love panoramic shots, zoom shots and the need to fly through things would be secondary, and while a FPV drone looks hella fun, I suspect another choice might be wiser for us. Really appreciate the insights you’ve shared! 👍
Question: the superbe shots at 8:34 are recorded with the Mavic?
Great introduction of the drone, btw.
Yes, the only video I have with the FPV at the moment is the stuff at the start! I’ll be using it in the next month or so though.
Thanks for the video! Can you control it via a phone like a normal DJI drone? How good is video quality while flying in head set?
You can’t. It’s all through the headset. The headset quality is fantastic - far better than any VR headset I’ve used.
