Great video Tomley, as always. I have been looking for a half decent 1/10 scale buggy for a little while and wondering whether it's worth getting the DHK 8383 Optimus or this. I'm going to be doing a brushless conversion anyway so looking for a good chassis. Seems I should go for the DHK.
Probably, did used the same alloy aluminium chasis and thickness, as the 12019 and 14 "something something ". For that reason it's really soft. Like, the Titanic issue.
And that is why real racing buggies use carbon fiber supports instead of some kind of cheap alloy metal. I see a lot of stuff was copied from the TLR 22X-4 in a terrible way. And whats with the metal spur gear. I feel as if they think more metal is better, but its quite the opposite.
No way am I paying £113 plus £17 shipping knowing thats how it'll turn up. Mind I've already got the fix worked out very simple Tomley, ecellent content on this one dude.
I think if they could make a brace that fit from shock tower to tower, basically doubling the thickness of the towers(they have to be weak right). Does look like it would work, more importantly is it a good idea. I knew it had to have some weakness. Also I think I would run a basher bar on bottom with tabs, so a droop screw mod could be done as well
Such a brace does in fact exist. The WLToys 104001 is a clone of the 2016 version of the XRAY XB4, so the XB4's optional braces will fit it. The way the XB4's braces work is that there are two parts, a front brace and a rear brace. The front brace connects the center upper deck to the front diff case, and the back connects the center upper deck to the rear diff case. Both braces run along the chassis below the driveshafts as well, so they're out of the way. While you're at it, I'd recommend picking up the shock towers and upper decks as well.
Nice buggy, maybe I should get one, I really like the 144001, but having it in 1:10 scale would be nice. But I will use it for bashing so need to fix the flexing somehow.
If you had to choose between the 104001 or the 144001 what one would you choose? The 104001 is bigger but it's slower. I kind of think it would be a great car to upgrade and parts seem to be available. Thanks for sharing this car with us. Now I just need to consider what one I should buy. ❤
If you want to go the "start cheap and upgrade over time" route with a 4WD buggy, you basically have no better choice than the 104001, other than the Tamiya TT02B. The 104001 is a cheap clone of the 2016 XRAY XB4.
So basically they need to add a top deck/brace/plate ... Or you could make your own from the scrap aluminum, g10 fiberglass or kevlar/graphite/carbon of your chosing. A pin router and or Dremel and less than $10 strip of scrap till the V.2 a top deck is no biggie ...
I like the look of this model it looks really nice in terms of the body and the fact that all the suspension and drivetrain etc......is METAL, looks solid but why they put a brushed motor in it thay might as well have put a decent brushless in it, even if it cost a little more I would DEFO buy it then, how long before the bloody brushed motor wears out and you gotta put a new one in or convert it to Brushless.I would just go for the ZDracing equivalent, it would be just as good and yet has a Brushless motor which is always better !!! Manufacturers let themselves down in this respect. Rob
yup, or taller side rails, would get most of that flex gone. looks like some aluminum stock could be glued+screwed onto existing rails, 3/4" tall 1/16" thick as long as practical/possible.
@@modelnutty6503 not a bad idea that, looking at it so see e on there is no thickness to the chassis, especially Infront of the rear wheels. My old Traxxas Rad 2 and my Tamiya TA-02 were All bathtub chassis and super rigid.
for that flex issue ...i would run a strip of carbon, metal or plastic one on each side inside the buggy i reenforce planes all the time...easy fix...for guys running on street not needed.

Should just find a thick enough flat 1" to 2" wide aluminum and bolt it to the bottom like i seen some guy do long time ago with all his RC's. For sure when you turn that into a speed car.
If problem is the whole drivetrain is held to the chassis by 2 Chinese bolts into a Chinese grade aluminum .5 cm wide and 2 cm long. If they put a spool with a four bolt would make this buggy perfect for 150$

I upgraded mine with a 4S capable 120A ESC so it now runs over 100km/h without changing anything else than the battery and ESC! 🙌🏻 I really don‘t know why there is no bigger hype around that buggy while it is clearly better than the 104001 🤔 Maybe you can start a hype around it? 😋
Great advice Bro!! Very honest! Awaiking mods and upgrades for sure!! Have a great day!!
Thanks mate 😎🤟
After see you video.
I'm so happy that I was order the VRX Cobra and not the 104001.
No waywhat metal are they using?
No way I waste my money on that car.
I mean it’s fine for normal use... but why they left it with no chassis bracing is beyond me!
@@TomleyRC I'm happy with my wltoys.
But I don't know from the first moment they announced the 1/10 I had a batñd feeling.
You have bashed the VRX carbon fiber
It's right now at same price the spirit buggy Brushless as the 104001.
Imagine what I would recommend if you're looking for a under 150€ 1/10 buggy...
for u[pgrading run time you would up the miliamp hour on the battery right? so like if my rc ran a 2s 600 miliamp hour battery could i like put a 2s 2000 miliamp hour battery to it and it would work right?
How long does the battery last? In description there is mentioned 9min. Is that real - so short?
Great review as always. Hope they take note and do something as it would be a shame if they didn't.
Hopefully!
Wheelbase? How about put it with rally body shell?
Thank you for the honest review on this 👍
No worries... I like to try and pint out issues when I find them 😎👍
Is a budget *buggy* made to be jumped? In all fairness to the buggy. Also on concrete? Didn't really stand a chance imho.
Yeah agree... that’s why I said ‘it’s fine for normal use’.... and not really a Basher 😎👌
@@TomleyRC yep.. but as you can see, 90% People Here made conclusion that 104001 is crap..for money that it costs, 104001 is really good deal, there are just few rc's that have that good value for money spent..i understand what you said but looks Like lot's of People did not..
@@TomleyRC I think I commented before the end lol. I know you realize that Phil. Was just pointing it out to others as well. If I had that buggy I probably wouldn't leave the ground anyway lol.
where is that skate park by the way because i live close i think because you have mentioned pbmracing
WLToys Kings of Butter Metal parts! I sure hope they don't make handcuffs :D
Haha... although my 90mph+ 124019 is still running all stock gears 😉
@@TomleyRC truth! I'm watching your MT10 videos right now to pump my self up! just ordered one!
Is it the same metal as the 124019? If so they need a bit stronger metal for the extra length
I can't see any benefit of this 104 over the 124 (same running gear but heavier, slower, worse run time, more expensive etc) and now the chassis flexes?! Rushed to market to fill a niche? I would save my money and put it towards one of the LC Racing buggies which look excellent.
I prefer the 124019 as well. That’s the best one to get
@@TomleyRC Glad you say that, it does seem like the sweet spot. If/when the price drops a little more my finger may well hit the 'add to cart' button on a 124. That same finger will certainly be avoiding the 104.
When you showed the buggy the first time I was wondering why there was no top plate. Wonder if WLtoys makes an option for it?
It won't take long before theres a brace or something for it. They love to sell aftermarket stuff.
Hey tomley can I fit the castle 2028 1100kv motor on it and will it be good for speedruns
I’d go for a 1/10 from castle... 4-5000kv would be better
But I want to put the 2028 motor I really need to know I would appreciate it if you told me
I ordered the arms only, because while this is a copy of the lcracing, the front arm was a straight copy of my xray xb4 and xray sells only 1 arm for $12.99 while this copy, its $6 for both arms.
Can't wait to see the next video motor upgrade.
Long live to 144001, best cheap RC forever
Loving the channel (fan of you, Kev and the rc kiwi's) I'm looking at my next project and I'm trying to decide between the 104401 and the 124019 or splash out and get a roller zd racing ex07 (if they ever deliver to the uk) just can't decide... Mrs will kill me eitherway lol..
The 124019 is a really solid buggy. It’s my favourite out of the WLtoys ones
Yeah... they didn’t really think about the extra length
@@TomleyRC that's what she said...
Thanks for the amazing video as always keep up the great work
Thanks dude
I've been slightly underwhelmed with the 104001 so far. It's not given me the excitement factor that I got with the 124019 when I picked that up
Yep, same motor. Much larger
Cheers dude. It’s disappointing that’s for sure!
So now that he found a flaw, what would be the next best thing to do to strengthen that plate?
Buy the makerfire carbon top brace
@VestedUTuber I wrote that 2 years ago when it came out. Also never bought 1. But thanks for the info.
Flex is good. Less likely to break
Yes... but not this much flex 😅
Yeah, need a brace. Good test and informative video, mate.
Thanks for the low down on these RC's. So many cars coming out it's hard to choose. 👍 @@VestedUTuber
That driveline gives me Blackfoot flashbacks.Over and over having to pop the dog-bone back in its socket.
Rob
Can this buggy accommodate a 4s battery?
How do you change rear toe on this one?
Anyone know what other driveshafts you can use for the center?
Good honest review bro,, but I don't like willtoys, bangood etc,,lol anyways how that little dl truck getting on? 😉👍
Hello, could you tell me the wheelbase? Thank you
Wow, that real;y needs a brace plate on the upper of the chassis.
yup, or taller side rails, would get most of that flex gone.
looks like some aluminum stock could be glued+screwed onto existing rails,
3/4" tall 1/16" thick as long as practical/possible.
@@modelnutty6503 not a bad idea that, looking at it so see e on there is no thickness to the chassis, especially Infront of the rear wheels.
My old Traxxas Rad 2 and my Tamiya TA-02 were All bathtub chassis and super rigid.
for that flex issue ...i would run a strip of carbon, metal or plastic one on each side inside the
buggy i reenforce planes all the time...easy fix...for guys running on street not needed.
Yeah... relatively easy fix 👍
Bro the flex is good this is amazing buggy
great review and information,cool buggy
Cheers dude
You drove it very modirest and it broke . That has way to much chassis flex . The 124019 is the best wltoys rc . I have watched +30 video reviews taking in to account pros and cons . I just ordered 3 . One for me and my 2 boys . We are going to have a blast 😀
Should just find a thick enough flat 1" to 2" wide aluminum and bolt it to the bottom like i seen some guy do long time ago with all his RC's. For sure when you turn that into a speed car.
"that is just me FLEXIN with my hand" 💪
I'm sure it wouldn't take much to make an upper brace for it
only a matter of time before a thicker chassis plate is available
If problem is the whole drivetrain is held to the chassis by 2 Chinese bolts into a Chinese grade aluminum .5 cm wide and 2 cm long. If they put a spool with a four bolt would make this buggy perfect for 150$
Awesome video
Very informative bro 👍
Cheers dude
@@TomleyRC cheers 🍻🍻
along with no full top brace the bottom metal is flat and does not have side bends that stiffens it
Hah the kids in the back watching
Yeah, they asked if they could have a go... about 30s after I broke it 😅
@@TomleyRC lmao
Great vid Phil, not sure any of the other channels picked this flaw up. Great little car but giving it a miss on the grounds of divorce after getting the Typhon and Flux....🤣
When buying a car of this price? It’s $160 for a 1/10th scale buggy. You want Arrma or Traxxas quality, you gotta pay way more than that. But thanks for the heads up.
Nice Video man. You have a nice balance too your vids, really enjoy them!
The 104001 is pretty average IMO. OK for the price but just to basic. 5 wire servo and spaghetti chassis. No thanks.
Thanks mate, appreciate it 😎👍
Can you find a better 4x4 buggy for $150? I'm all ears....
@@kenmastersmaster Possibly not. I have a 124018 and it's a fun little buggy. Fast, nimble and looks cool. I was just hoping WLToys were going to give us a bit more. A brushless motor and 3 wire servo maybe? Do that add $50 to the price it would still sell like hot cakes. My 124018 would be faster than this out of box and that just doesn't seem right.
@@TheflyingkiwiRC nobody will pay $200 for a generic chinese buggy. Theres a brushless, fully carbon buggy on bangcock for $270.... Doesn't really sell well.
They better stick to the $100 stuff
The flex is good it will take the damage from hard landings.
You want a controlled flex trust me. It's like extra suspension
That's why aluminum Control arms don't work they don't flex
Just take some small screws and stiffen the pan with painter stir sticks
I am really happy whit my 4S 144001! 😂
Paint it yellow and name it the Banana..
I really don't know why the don't fit a front bumper on these same flaw on the 144001...
Whats the motor size?
There is little to no grease in the diffs. To me 7 minutes in run time is a step back 5-10 years.
Yes, although my Axial Capra was the same... so it’s not just the cheaper brands that forget to grease stuff!
Very balanced r/c!!!!
