I raised the box a foot up on platform and use a large bag in a cardboard box underneath. It last a long time now before i have to throw out bag.

Forgot to mention... those who use the "ramp", that will need to be removed each time you remove receptacles from the 3rd Edition models

LazrArt seems they couldn’t have tried harder to make it difficult to use a plastic bag to line the receptacle

Our prototype for a new BAG-it system that fits the 3rd edition will NOT interfere with the ramp

@@speedracer9132 My guess from feedback received while selling BAG-it since 2007 is that a lot of customers complain about getting cat waste in close proximity to their hands (obviously these people never changed a diaper). So LitterMaid put a ton of effort to make the receptacles "hands-free" and with better odor control

Great comparison! I was wondering if the V3 is worth it, I have the one just before and my click of death has just begun. I miss the original, the one that took D cell batteries... that thing lasted me nearly a decade with no issues, then the sensor stopped working which was so disappointing due to the classic mega being such a work horse. I don’t think I want to buy this due to how hard it seems to use bags

We currently have a prototype for our BAG-it system that works with the 3rd Edition - it completely eliminates the need for receptacles and will even allow extended waste capacity simply by elevating the litter box. If cost to mass-produce isn't prohibitively high, we should have a solution for sale sometime in 2nd Quarter 2019.

As someone who first purchased LitterMaid in 1997, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the LitterMaid on the very left is the SECOND edition LM - aka the "Elite." The original is actually the parent of the LM box in the middle, which is a modification of the first edition - taller walls & some other design tweaks. The "Elite" on the left had some great design theories - the removable rake, the easy-clean pan with lift-off top. But it was far less reliable.
We had our first "Elite" fail just over a year after it replaced our original. Thankfully, an extended warranty remedied that & we got a replacement Elite. We noticed that its motor was weaker than its predecessor (the original LM, which lasted over 5 years), and the track wire could too easily become exposed. Our replacement Elited started having similar issues again after just another year.
Those issues were common, which is why they abandoned the Elite and refocused on the original "non-Elite" platform - resulting in your middle LM box. Our 3-cat household used the PetSmart / Nature's Miracle-brand version of that, which admittedly started showing signs of failure after two years - with the clicking you mentioned (basically gears wearing out).
We bought the proper LM version to replace it, and it's been going for 3 years now without issues. This one's motor did seem right-off stronger & smoother than the PS/NM, and so far, no clicking. So perhaps there was still a motor weakness issue that's since been corrected.

Don't you wish you could go back in time and buy a bunch of the original 1997 Littermaids? Those things were tanks. Mine lasted six years. All the other ones since are just shadows of the original. I'd be willing to pay $300 to have one that lasts for 3 or more years.

I've had littermaid boxes for years. They were great but did not last long before I had to buy another one. We liked the old style receptacle because we could just lift out, empty it into a garbage can with bag and reuse the receptacle again. Just bought a 3rd generation one. Now I will have to remove the ramp each time. I haven't had it long enough to know how it will be with reusing the old receptacles instead of constantly having to buy these things.

Our new BAG-it 3G for the 3rd Edition would allow you to catch the waste in a plastic bag, keeping the receptacle clean. Removing the ramp is easy enough using your 2 index fingers to pop it off and your 2 thumbs to install

The new receptacle is flimsy compared to the old style. They will crack just trying to separate one from the other.

Do you think this would work for a large bunny? Her poop is small and I’m not sure if the rack will get it.

    • @LazrArt
      @LazrArt  3 года назад

Unless the "logs" created from poop or pee are 1/2 inch or larger, the rake won't catch them

I’ve been waiting for littermaid to come out with a new one with hopefully a much better motor and I hope it’s true. I’ve used almost every version and yes they all have their issue but they’re a big help. The LM980 was the worst kept on returning and getting new ones because the click of death kept happening every month

I wanted to share my experience with the third edition. I've been using it for well over a year without too many issues. Sometimes the litter will get too thick for the plastic rake to move through, especially if my cats move the litter in a big pile. Overall it's worked well however I've had to repair it multiple times with the most recent time being unable to repair it. The first time the switch went out so I had to modify the switch area and use an aftermarket switch. That worked well with no more issues. I also haven't had any issues with the motor. The biggest problem I've had with this unit as of recently is the plastic gears attached to the motor. The teeth on the main gear broke on me a few weeks ago. Luckily I was able to 3D print a new gear replacement. Unfortunately that one just broke and now the unit is dead. I accidentally broke off the reverse switch inside the motor compartment that sends the rake in the opposite direction once it reaches the end or beginning of the job. That is more of a repair than I can manage so I'll be buying a new one. Overall though it's been great!
