    I just wanted to thank you for posting these well-organized videos of QuiltCon. I've been watching them as they appear and am just amazed at the ideas that these talented artists have turned into quilts. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    This is the best series of videos detailing QuiltCon that I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to really look at and study the quilts. You have a great way of pointing out positive points of each quilt. The videographer has serious skills!

    What a work you've done for us! Thanks soooo much! It's a delight to hear all your comments. I wished you had won, but competition is hard. I've enjoyed an exibition of Rothko in Paris a few weeks ago and thought of you. You understand his work and I can't imagine the challenge it has been to "translate" it! Bravo, you made our day anyway and now you can enjoy a Rothko at home, lucky one! 😉😁❤

    Such a great video! I was so pleased to see the Mary Blair tribute quilt. As a Walt Disney World cast member (retired) I worked in the Contemporary Resort for the first 12 years of my career. Every day I was able to view the massive tile murals that encased the elevator column in her artwork. It always made me smile, and I always saw something new.

    Appliqué/Embroidery have been a part of me since high school..1970-1973😊 all those bell bottoms jeans, jackets & purses were decorated with all those beautiful colors. In the past 6 years 5 of the quilts I have made were Appliquéd or Embroidered (all by hand). Now you know why my son often says, “Mom, you are sooo..old school” 😂 (KH)

    I feel like I have attended QuiltCon since watching your videos. Your descriptions are so insightful and the quilts are just beautiful. Maybe I missed it, but I would like to hear your artist statement for the Rothko quilt ----one of my favs!

    From the beginning I appreciated the production value your channel has, there was no "figuring it out as you go" while we watched.
    And now that you've taken the time to separate the categories and give your viewers a real look at the QC show quilts my admiration has grown. Just wonderful.

    All of these are so gorgeous, but I would have judged them much differently. *lol* Always the ones who don't (yet) quilt who have the saltiest opinions, eh? But I'm having my own emotions and gasping when I see them pop up on the screen, and then when you share your insight and read the artists' statements, it enriches the whole experience. You're spoiling us SO MUCH.

    Oh now this is so fun!!! (I don’t appliqué either Cathy, but I can sure appreciate the absolute talent!)
    So it really struck me at the winning quilt. I wonder how the judges chose the 3 top ones 🤔….I was enthralled most by #3! I think it was an outstanding work, just loved the leafy window to the outdoors. Sooo beautiful!

    I am surprised there wasn’t 1 traditional appliquéd quilt.

      @TheCatBirdQuilts  4 месяца назад

      Kathleen, we didn't get all the quilts on the video (there were so many that we ran out of time!) so it is very possible that there were traditional applique quilts there. Although since QuiltCon is put on by the Modern Quilt Guild, also maybe not?!🤷🏻‍♀️

      I don’t do appliqué. Tried it. Not for me. As someone who has done a lot of detailed hand sewing craft over the years, I want to love it, but alas, I do not. However, I love seeing the work of others and deeply appreciate the number of stitches in hand appliquéd pieces. There were some stunning quilts in this category! 100 Days of Greenery was amazing in technique. Frankenstrat made me laugh out loud, remembering the guitar from the National Museum of American History. And Maternal Mortality - 3X Higher was breathtaking in its presentation and message.

    Great series! Thank you for making it! I like the way you say the word 'quilt'...it's got your southern twang to it just a bit..... :o) ....then I was wondering where the word came from. What's it's origin, any idea?

    • @TheCatBirdQuilts
      @TheCatBirdQuilts  4 месяца назад +1

      Of course I don't hear it at all since I'm the one saying it! Merriam Webster says: 14th century, Middle English *quilte* mattress, quilt, from Anglo-French *coilte* from Latin *culcita*: mattress!
