The discussion about easy mode raids was probably one of the best bits of teatime we've had in a while. WP and Mighty Teapot having very strong opinions on the subject, (as each come from different backgrounds in terms of the amount of playtime each dedicate to the game mode), now THAT is where you find value in discourse, and arguing about possible futures without trying to impose one's personal preference. Kudos guys, certainly loved this chat.

The Real Season 5: I'm surprised WP hasn't thought of this.
Season 4 ends with a letter from the Ruler of Cantha asking for help with X issue. Season 5 is sailing the ocean to get to Cantha, end Season 5 by landing in Cantha.
We would have to sail to Cantha with a fleet because suddenly there are storms preventing airship travel(Deep Sea Dragon activity,) start of Season 5 we meet the Deep Sea Dragon. Season 5 we travel maps with random islands/underwater content just trying to survive. We meet a faction of Krait in the middle of a civil war that are friendly with us, and we befriend those Krait in an effort to save the fleet.
In addition to evil Krait and the Deep Sea Dragon we also meet remnants of Risen Ships. The Risen and their Dead Ships were why Mainland Tyria was cut off from Cantha in the first place. We get more Krait lore, Deep Sea Dragon lore, Quaggan lore, Coursair lore, Karka lore, ect.
    Hire me Anet.

Year 3 - Heart of Thorns
Year 5 - Path of Fire
    Year 8 - Expansion 3 (Cantha)
    Year 11 - Expansion 4 (Far Tyria)
    Year 14 - Expansion 5 (Sunrise Crest?)
Mike Z recently stated that he's looking forwards to another 6 years of GW2 development, putting us at Year 12.
World of Warcraft came out in 2004, and just put out a 2018 expansion. Assuming they put out another in 2 years, even if it's the final one, that's 16 years of development. I think Deroir's right, and that everyone calling him crazy for believing that GW2 could have another 10 years of active development aren't looking at the remaining story this game has to tell, and the longevity of successful MMOs.
I think it is unlikely that GW2 will end before 8 years from now, and I think 10 years is likely. The suggestion that we're 2+ expansions into a sequel in 10 years is just bizarre, as that would imply that GW2 is ending in the next 2-4 years...despite the likelihood of a 3rd Expansion in 2 years.

    Easy solution to easy modes:
-REMOVE Enrage timers (so you can overheal them, but still get all the problems)
-Give a buff with a set amount of stacks that triggers the moment you die (not downed) that heals you full and resurrect and give some sec invuln
-Easy modes only give the wiggle-chest on the right, with the magnetite/pof-tokens and green gear bag inside (shared with normal mode, if you do normal mode after this you won't get that chest, but the normal loot)
Most likely some ppl would still complain, but it would be something. Call it training mode maybe. Make an achievement for killing the boss with full stacks, give a title for a complete wing. This way you can show the title to get into your first normal mode groups.
    The good:
-You could actually do training runs on these easy modes instead of normal modes, without it taking too long
-After repeating this several times almost everyone would have learned to play good enough for the normal mode
-Almost noone would repeat this forever just for those rewards (no exotic, no LI, no gold)
-Once the system is implemented, no dev time is needed

In regards to the easy mode raids discussion. I think many people forget to include the fact that the resources for this have to come at a cost somewhere else. I would be willing to bet that the people who are screaming for an easy mode would think twice if they were told that it came at a cost of living world development (i.e. 1-2 month delay per episode for example). The difference here is that the argument is coming from the perspective of a normal mode/CM raider. None of the Teatime members are part of the audience that would benefit from playing the easy mode, but rather benefit from the possibility of increased resources towards raids in general. Many of the people who would benefit from actually playing the easy mode are likely the same people who don't want more resources put at raids in the first place, or only if those resources come at the expensive of normal mode raid development time. They can't have their cake and eat it too. The resources would HAVE to come from the living world team, and I doubt many people actually want that.

boots is right it may not be an easy mode but it can be a tutorial mode that just gives you a leeway before throwing you into the real thing, you can give people a achivemnet or something that shows that they done all the tutorials in the raids then training groups have a better trainees already and people joining wouldnt be so clueless and having no reward in an "easy" mode there will be no replay value nobody, and i mean nobody will keep doing them if all they get is to see the map and story .

On the topic of season 1 coming back, I've had this idea bouncing around in my head for a while...
What if! Kralky going into the mists and mucking about in there leads to some time instabilities that need to be resolved, season 5 revolves around mitigating these time problems and occurs in and around core tyria. The threat is that history itself threatens to be unraveled if kralky succeeds. S5 begins with realizing it's happening, builds up to some implications, and the final 1-3 episodes of the season revolve around replaying major events in tyria's history as a sneak peek of what's to come in the next expansion...
The next expansion being essentially a new continent plus a touched up core tyria experience plus living world season 1, slightly altered due to the time-shenanigans but intact enough to be mostly faithful, but up to the standards of modern gw2 experience.
Is this feasible with arenanet's manpower? No, unless the living world team has been offering at half staff for the last 2 years while everyone else is rebuilding literally the entire core tyria experience.

  • @BFernandez1701

I think a 5 minute event chain would cover for any mounts being held for later releases. So PoF could have been released in chapters with just a couple events added to fling you over gaps via Charr Catapult 2.0. There are Mastery Points in HoT which used to require doing an event chain to open walls, but which are now mostly done by hopping over the wall with a Springer. So in a sense, I waited 3 years for that convenience mastery. The wall was there the whole time. If there was an image of a Springer on all the Vine Walls, would it have caused questions? Sure. But it would have just been another Druid mystery to us until we finally got our Springers. In the same way event chains could be used to occasionally crash down Beetle Walls all over Tyria really.

the issue with raids is one not simply summed up with "easy mode or not"
in fact the entire problem stems from the very core of GW2s gameplay, its infrastructure of information and its community.
to begin wiht the first let me start with a question:
how does GW2 teach the player to play their character/class
answer is NOT at all. the only thing it does is explain what button can be pressed to do the most basic of movements.
the entirety of core tyria does NOT present an environment in which players learn through game play every over all crux of the character they are playing until they hit the wall that is the difficulty spike from core tyria to any of the expansions.
we ourselves experienced it with tangled depths as we faced the dreaded pocket raptor.
Seriously if the community had a better teaching game experience the pocket raptor would never have gotten to meme status.
Even WP ranted about this issue on a separate video 1 or 2 years ago and NOTHING has changed in that matter and won't change due to the business policies of Anet not to handle old content.
The next issue is the accessibility of information.
The next question is: WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WILL HEAR WHEN YOU WANT TO APPROACH RAIDS?
answer: have you read x and y guides? do you have this build? do you have this gear? etc etc
from the very get go any new player or anyone interested in raiding is immediately confronted with a wall of reading material they have to either on speed dial or learn it by memory. guides for classes and rotations and gear is already perpetuated by first issue i mentioned. the other, raid encounter and mechanics are an issue with information infrastructure of the game itself.
way to much one up coming raid has to look up are on several site across thew web and not centralized, some guides are are worse or better then others, so the newcomer has to find better ones on other websites.
But you say there are training guilds for that? well good luck finding one on the 2-3 different websites that do teach you actually playing the game and not just provide you with reading material.
that's also a problem that IF this is discussed people go say "learn by playing" and figure stuff out themselves but also want the person to read all the necessary guides and follow a routine without actually understanding what they do etc etc.
and worst for all which is common with ALL the problem under this information issue other then lack of centralization is THAT IT IS NOT PART OF THE GAME ITSELF.
Players have to actively STOP PLAYING THE GAME to do ANY of it.
all the necessary info SHOULD be accessible IN THE GAME. and with necessary i mean infomation that is not doing to the thinking for you:
-raid compendiums like in WoW, already giving a taste what bosses and mechanics will be encountered
    - not just a simple LFG UI, NO. it way to temporarily and is to obscure and limited to be helpful. AN ACTUAL infrastructure to find guild and just groups that are willing to play raids with beginners, so they can get the hand on challange tackling to get creative with problem solving and build making themselves, is required
and of course issue number three: contradicting community
as stated in issue 2, many issues from barrier arise from a raid community contradicting itself not as a group but also in individuals, leading to impressions of hypocrisy and elitism. THE FACT this tea time STILL grind the "easy mode" track to the ground is telling of that.
EASY MODE IS NOT THE ISSUE!
IT IS A MERE ATTEMPT TO PATCH SOMETHING THAT IS NOT TREATED PROPERLY THAT WAY.
the very basics of GW2 have to be update to allow people to have a higher understanding of their character class, easy access to at best exotic versions of HOT and POF stats and have a better infrastructure to learn raids by PLAYING THEM instead of reading countless guides.
if all these would become reality, i can guarantee you all the demand for an easy mode drops significantly.
yes there still will be some demanding it, but then those can be without a doubt be labeled as entitled or snowflakes, since then the game and community has done ALL it could to make raids accessible as possible.

      @frostdracohardstyle 5 лет назад

So what you're saying is people are too lazy to do research, and gw2 is terrible at teaching its community mechanics? Can't say i disagree. However information is way too accessible . GUides are up on day one for almost everything. Dulfy is a literal encyclopedia.
The people saying its not 'accessable' are lazy children who dont want to switch over to their browser. This, is a dumb reason to call something inaccessible. They can access it, they choose not to.

  • @miwky406
    @miwky406 5 лет назад +5

Honestly, as was mentioned, most people only play the story once-through. Personally, even as someone that loves lore and stories, and am a writer myself, Gw2’s story just falls extremely flat. I feel like it’s sorta copy-paste, and suffers the same problem as destiny: great universe with great potential, but everything interesting never happens around you the player, you just hear about these things for the most part.
What I believe they should do, is reintegrate season 1 as purchasable content.
Simultaneously, tell stories going forward (if only for a little while) with old maps getting small overall changes. Give us reasons to go back to old maps, especially since recent maps feel exceptionally boring.
Others could argue: “But, what about new content?” Look, enemies are -for the most part- just re-skins. All fights feel the same (spam boons and condis, and smash damage buttons, or play support and smash buttons to heal), and, in the end, it’s kinda just running in circles as a big loot-train on every map.
Literally, just update old assets, and tie story back into old maps to make us feel like the entirety of the world is still alive.
Meanwhile, completely overhaul the entirety of the combat-system. Make each of the professions unique and interesting from one-another instead of just holding “w” and rolling your face on your key-board. Make combat actually challenging, and rewarding. Give all enemies unique mechanics and things that you the player must learn to be more efficient at combatting them. Quit with the power-creep and all the bs “elite” specializations. Bring all specialization in line with one another, and make them actually all truly unique from one another. Then you can worry about the story going forward. You can’t build new things on a broken system.
The last major idea I want to pose is: Once these above changes would be ready to add to the game, relaunch it like final fantasy did with their mmo. Change the name. Market it properly. The name is wholly misleading, and probably a large reason why despite all the potential of this game, it’s still not really ever been considered a true rival to WoW in terms of popularity despite Gw2’s unfortunate catering to the casual-player.

Hell yes you get people waiting for months to get access to areas due to living story updates (in reference to the beatle walls in older maps). I love in RPGs where you go to old maps to access places you couldn't access before. Yes you have to make sure the reward is good, you want it to be a nice surprise. Such as a hidden jumping puzzle, the start to a new collection to a unique armour set.

Please give us fishing as well and ships to build and sail on!! There are probably 3-4 more expansions before they move onto a new game. So 10 more years is probably the minimum time before any new announcement. After that they could release a new game, but hopefully it wont have anything to do with Tyria. Tyria should be done with in this game.

What I'd _really_ like to see (in terms of easy-mode raiding) is a new training area. The one we have is boring. We need Moto in the Aerodrome sending us into his Super Adventure Spheroid to simulate a handful of holographic bosses that is fun for people to learn mechanics without fear of other people flaming them. Seriously. People don't train on the golem because it's boring and convoluted to set up, so they go into raids and get destroyed. Make the learning process easier and more fun for people and I don't think easy mode will be even be necessary. Give a legible fun tutorial mode in Moto's device that teaches people how to handle boss mechanics and throw some incentive in there for people to do it (such as a a full set of Exotic gear, or Ascended gear achieves for avoiding mechanics and doing decent dps etc.) and most of the raid problems will dissipate.
Another way to solve the problem would be to just make Raids give very good gold. People follow the gold. If the hard content gave the most gold, it would be more populated, and it sure beats the mindless farming of Istan.

    • @RoyScot
      @RoyScot 5 лет назад

"people don't train on golem". Coming from a raider with more than 2100li over 2 accounts, I can tell you that good raiders do train on golem with new classes to muscle memorise at least part of a builds rotation before jumping into a raid. Being better and more fluent in your rotation means you have the ability to observe the fight and mechanics more closely and play 'better'. Muscle memory'ing your rotation is crucial in becoming an actual good raider.
And there are a ton of good raid guides out there to help learn mechanics. I GUARANTEE if you were able to pull 95% of any benchmark (WITHOUT HAVING TO FOCUS ON YOUR ROTATION) whether its DPS or boon wise, it would make your learning curve for mechanics ABSOLUTELY SKYROCKET. After just a few kills of each boss, you would understand way more than if you took different routes. When I pick up a new class:
1)Rote learn rotation (or get a good feel for most of it)
2)Play in raids and focus on MECHANICS, not rotation
3)When you are comfortable, really push your rotation while keeping up with mechanics
Just advice though, good luck :)

@gardakan936 if you want to actually min max, you cannot dodge that liberally. you want to dodge at very specific times to optimise staff master and get as much aa uptime as possible. And you literally picked the easiest rotation, in the game, out of current meta builds.
You want rotation to be so muscle memorised that you literally don't think about it. You only need to actually think about what to do in very very odd situations that dont occur often. And you achieve that by afking your rotation on golem.

    • @RoyScot
      @RoyScot 5 лет назад

@gardakan936 If you dodge a lot right before you start the encounter you hardly need to dodge outside rotation to keep endurance below max. You just want to keep your auto attack uptime as high as possible (i.e you dont usually want to dodge liberally(unless nearly full)), so dodge only as much is necessary. Where as a lot of people seem to just dodge all the time even if their endurance is below max. This is horribly off topic though.

A comment on raid locked content. I played GW1. I play a ton of GW2. I’m old enough that I don’t have the fast twitch muscles and reactions to raid. I play Fractals and WvW, but cannot get into raids. At best, I can join a raid long enough to get kicked. It’s not gear - I have crafted Legendary weapons and Legendary armor for my main - it’s skill and reaction speed. I don’t have the ability. So I would be disappointed if story or entire maps were locked behind raids I can’t finish, as I would be if it were locked behind jumping puzzles I can’t complete. (Remember the Matt Visual video of Second Aetherblade JP? I spent the same hours and hours, but after 123 deaths I broke down and used a Mesmer portal. Ditto Skip up the Volcano)
Looking at GW2Eff, I see that I have 4k hours on my main, and thousands of hours on several other characters. I have 23.5k APs. I have played this game long enough that I’m pretty certain I am not going to get better. I am not going to be able to “up my game” or “get serious” to the level of being a raider. I’m as good as I’m going to get, and it’s not good enough for a raid team to let me stay on the team. I suspect I’m not alone - my friends are at comparable levels.
I don’t mind that there are parts of the game - raids, achievements, etc. - that I am not skilled enough to complete, but I would be disappointed if that included maps or major story points.

I think the easiest way to ease people into raids without attributing too many additional resources thus starving the game of content is to explicitly gate Raids behind fractals, make the progression of PVE endgame more logical and require ascended armor and a different kind of infusion for raids.

How often a type of content gets released also plays part in how many players will interact with said content. If every new fractal had a cm participation wouldnt drop, it might've even increased.
Imagine if they suddenly took 1 and a half years to release the next raid, or they did release ez mode raids every 8 months but a normal one or a cm mode one took 2 years. Think of what that would do to the population that raids the normal/cm.
Lets look at it from a diff prespective, imagine they release only t4 fractals and cms but no t1 t2 t3s imagine what will happen to the population that used to do t1 t2 t3.

What if the narrative made use live season 1 again now that it is established that Kralkatorrik has the power to bind reality itself ?
For season 5 we could have the entire season being released into the mists just like in nightfall (Guild Wars 1), we had entire zones of explorable content in the realm of Torment.

  • @RyuDouro

Easy mode raids don't really drive people to regular raids which is something we've seen in wow time and time again with the top end of the raiding scene withering over time. The amount of people doing the hardest content over there has kept dropping since easier versions of the same encounters were added, and also the real raids have lost a lot of their uniqueness and excitement associated with it.

As a 2k hours played player who never step foot into a raid, and was an elite raider in multiple WoW expansions, I can't for the life of me enter into GW2 raiding. I do not understand the game, I'm not learning, and I don't understand how anyone learns in GW2. I feel like the game is not giving me any feedback to if I'm playing well or not at all.
Also finding a raiding guild is 10 times harder than in wow, idk why, people just ignore you in raid lobby map chat.

  • @violetbliss4399
    @violetbliss4399 5 лет назад

I think you are estimating the cost way too high for an easy mode. You don't particularly need to tune that hard for that, you just need to scale down the default challenge or dampen mechanics that require too much coordination from a fast group. Now I completely get the worry, but from a cost perspective it is easily one of the cheapest ways to create a new play avenue for the game.
I mean, WoW is a giant example, both for the good and the bad of how they did it. I would just use that as a learning tool, and make a story mode that makes more sense. You can still derive A LOT of it from the main challenge encounters.
Also, there's a third clique of us players, some of us simply don't have the time to also add raids. It's fine when you have things on farm(i used to raid) but while learning, no matter how fun it is with the right people some of us just can't spend the time AND also play the rest of the game. So for me, i have to choose the rest right now. Maybe that is fine from a game design standpoint, to just not have that content for us, I don't know. I can't help but feel there could be a middle road.
Anyway, a lot of great discussion this TeaTime, loved it. :D Btw. Norn expac.

@Rémy Boivin If they can ease in more player base by making it more forgiving, as they learn the mechanics. Wouldn't it be a win/win? I personally quit raids as I don't have the time to sink 4 - 10 hours per sitting, to learn a new wing anymore. And that amount of dedication will turn off any casual from raids.
I can certainly recommend fractals as a point of skill progression, but not as a gateway to raids. Unless you need a harder challenge than 99/100cm
Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with raids where there at. You just won't see somebody like myself touching content like that any time soon. Would I like to try it if there was less time sink? Sure! But for now I'll have WP go through the story elements after a raid release.
Its up to Anet if they want to attract more of the player base into it.

Deroir seems to be considering the current more than the future.

What WP doesn't understand is that MMO populations have player types that are for the most part static. Explorers will *never* make the jump to start seeking out 10-man content no matter how hard you twist their arms. And those of us who do will not be happy with that transition, because it's just not the game we want to play. We'll drop out. It's not a matter of us having to learn the game or becoming more engaged. We already are engaged, just not in the same game types as you. I'll be honest, I find WP's stance on this topic very arrogant and patronizing, and his lack of empathy is disappointing.

After watching this Broadcast, i legit hope anet watches this and ignores nearly every idea they had that matches with those they brought up. It is amazingly ridiculous what got talked bout and what ideas came up, some of those things are ok, and well thought no doubt. but ther is so much that as a Developer you just FailFish over, a few short Examples : 1. " do it all in lw and not in exp. " you guys want this game to die ? exp packs are Big for a few reasons, 1th its a big income for the Companie 2th People come back to the game or consider starting this game cause of the promotion and the effekt " the new " brings. 3th what got said ther is much more room for story development new maps that build on each other and so on cause 4th People would flip the fkn table if they get something thats not usefull for a year or get a map theyr excited bout wich they cant interact with for 6 month. Example 2. Why you guys want " a GW3 " or some other sht , they should just work on this game look to the big example right in front WoW, do you guys see a WoW 2 ? no cause they work on the game and the story and the world that has its charm just like Gw2 has its charm, dont go out ther and plant such thoughts in the heads of others just cause your " Elitist Circle Jerking " and not even understand that ther are People not playing this game 24/7 and are not done with everything after release, holy cow dont print your " Hardcore " thoughts on a Casual Player Base. Example 3 : Raids.... i for real get aggresions, i see so many people that dont wanna raid that just dont fit those " TryHard " aspects, if you now start give story and everything into Raids you just give a big FK U to the Community, Easy Mode ? its Called raid, CM is the not easy mode, but if people dont wanna bring up the Time to just learn and or play this part of the Game ACCEPT IT AND DONT FORCE PEOPLE TO PLAY STUFF THEY DONT LIKE, Raid is a nice part of the game i personal enjoy it very much but i accept that ther are people that dont like it and i get rly Mad to hear that you guys give the advice to litteraly sht on the Community to get more of what you like, after the first 4 Wings they had the numbers who wants to do it and who dosnt, and i assume they developed according to it. but i also can understand that you wanna get more ressources for it since you enjoy it the most , but consider not only your own opinion and think bout the people who arent with you. Teapot, you wouldnt have a few people break down, you would lose bout 50% of the Raid szene cause if ther would be an ez mode , why would many of them consider the fact that they have to use time, be in voice having 1-2 days a week blocked for free choice they have to be ther and raid so if ther is a way to get raids done without those restrictions they simply will do it Just look again into WoW as a Blueprint, LFG Raid ( easy mode ) just destroyed the Raid szene, and i for gods sake hope ArenaNet wont do the same mistake What they should do in my Opinion : Work on WvW , Add more Free World Content, like Long drawn Rewarding chains true maps like Aurora and stuff like that. Give People Maybe a New World Boss with the next exp. pack , that for example has a drop chance for a Mount Skin or something like that, that would give people cause of Collecting reasons the Carrot on the stick to repedetly play the Game, and to give the Map a replayability. Give PvP Players something interesting to go after, something that gives them the same Carrot on the Stick to play and get Better, Give maybe a new Map or 2v2 /3v3 options with a seperated ladder. Raid People and Fractal Runners have the Good end of the Carrot Stick atm. no point to complain if you mainly play those. you just have to realise this is not make a wish , this is make a game that attracts a big player base and gives most of them a thing or two they enjoy and get invested in. i rly can see that you guys are playing i assume 3 x the Time like other players and you guys get bored, but just dont go and give those fkd up advises that would give 5% a nice feeling and let 95% left behind, if you do that this game gona die cause you 5% are not the reason this game exists. so now im done go on and give me down votes i dont care i sayd what i had to say

Bottom line, as Teapot seems to have been trying to express, if only 10% of the player population is doing Raids, why should Anet spend more than 10% of their programming resources on making new Raids? Anet is going to cater to the segment of the players who spend the most money "in game", by creating content, that the majority of players participate in. WP and Deroir, if you want to keep Raids and get new Raids, maybe you need to suggest better ways on how to get more players into Raids.
