North Tower World Trade Center Rooftop July 15, 2001- RARE VIDEO

- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2024
- This is a RAW UNEDITED video taken from the roof of the World Trade Center North Tower, Building #1, on July 15th 2001. Shown in the video is my friend Rod Coppola, a broadcast engineer for WNET Channel 13, who worked on the 110th floor and lost his life on 9/11/2001 in this very same building. The recording is jumpy and the RF interference from all the transmitters caused the video to breakup as well as causing the audio noise. The general public is not allowed on the North tower and most videos you will see are from the south tower, so this is a RARE video.
On Sept 11, 2001 at 8:30AM, I signed online with Rod using AOL IM discussing software changes to a program we were working on. Then at 8:46 the connection was severed. I had no idea what was going on until 15-20 minutes later when news of a "small plane" hitting the building was broadcast on the television I was watching. The rest is history. His body was found in a stairwell on Christmas Day 2001.
It is incomprehensible how Philippe Petit had the nerves to walk a tightrope between these two towers back in 1974.
After a certain height it all kinda fades out. You should see some of the people scaling skyscrapers in the 2020s right now with zero safety equipment. Meeting rescue workers on the roof but still.
Rod was a good friend. He won't be forgotten. Thanks for the comments.
Rod died in 911?
@@dirtydanman420 Yes

oh my god, the description...especially that last sentence...i’m so sorry
I worked across the hall from Rod and WNET-TV in room 11021 and I knew Rod as a fellow Broadcast Engineer. We (TV and Radio Broadcasters) were like a family on the 110th floor. This video brought back many memories to me of working on the roof of WTC# 1. I worked on the 110th floor of WTC# 1 for Channel-5 for 21 years before 9-11.
God Bless You sir.
@Anthony Klich his comment would be valid either way
Glad you are ok.

@@alisonmcgregor2002 Yes I was still working at the World Trade Center that day. However, i was not scheduled into work that day until 10:30 AM

lewisner IKR?? Fuck, he had nuts of iron to get that close!
Yes, that was me personally. Rod helped me work on an automation project (Automatronix), and we were almost completed with it when the planes hit. In his memory I completed it, and have a dedicated screen built into the program.

It's scary. I'm afraid if heights!
I'm glad and sorry
@Mr. SB so what if he did? Like that would have mattered
@@hardcorehunter9438 yes it would have a police helicopter was hovering around the buildings looking to rescue anyone on top sadly nobody made it up there
@@johnscanlon2598 no, it was impossible for a police helicopter to land on the tower (or even get close enough to it) to pick people up due to the smoke, which would have destroyed the helicopter's engine. Not to mention the doors to the roof were locked. If it was open, you would have seen most of the trapped people go up there.

the new one world trade center will never replace the old
World trade center was only and special
It literally replaced it 😂
No it wont... but its still a beautiful building
The new freedom tower isnt trying to be the twin towers as the twin towers cant be replaced and the new tower is special in it's own right
@Gaming York i love it, you have such a terrible taste lol
Very unusual to have footage from the roof of the north tower. The powerful microwave radiation from the TV antenna was obviously playing havoc with the video recording equipment. Interesting to see the roof of the north tower though, and the TV antenna at such a close range.
Did you notice all the smaller two way radio transmitters all over? They put almost the entire citys relay antenna on one building
Looks more like an array, of staggering capability.
I know. I was curious, so I searched "roof of the north tower" to see if I'd find any videos. I was pleasantly surprised
@jay Leonard of the south tower? I dont think so. I dont think people were allowed up there until 9
@jay Leonard I used to have the same question. I actually had a theory that if there were people on top of the south tower while the first plane hit the north tower, they should have had a 15 minute head start before the 2nd plane hit to get to a lower floor. If this was the case, they would've survived and lived to tell people what they saw. However, that was before I found out that people weren't allowed up there at a certain time.
I can’t imagine what it was like for those people in there final moments. Looking at the edge literally made my stomach twist.
At last! Someone who is not talking about the bloody radiation!
👍
Scary as fuck. I was never afraid of tall buildings until 9/11. Went up the Hancock tower in Chicago 4-5 years ago and literally was scared to death. Yet I’ve flown planes. Crazy what those people must have experienced
Supposedly no one was up their. Supposedly
Americans knock down buildings in foreign countries on a daily basis. Thousands of drone strikes per year. Yet you still can't get over this 18 year old event.
I couldn't give your comment a like because of the circumstances. The jumpers had a ZERO % of surviving.Unimaginable.
“That’s the new Hi-Def antenna” Man, they were retrofitting these buildings with new technology. It would’ve been interesting to see how the original WTC plaza would’ve held up in 2020. Imagine a 4K or 5G radio up on that huge antenna mast.
I Honestly think it would be an Interesting Addition to the North Tower, Instead of Hi-Def Antenna being the Newest Thing.
My heart was fluttering when he showed what many saw that day looking down. It really took it to another level.
It gave me that much anxiety that it actually made me angry
I had that same feeling, almost like I was standing close to the edge and getting that weird sensation. I appreciate this video alot.

I know its been a while but I could transfer it for you if you’d like.
Recently I’ve become fascinated with how much of a technical achievement was made in the WTC as a broadcast beacon for probably the entire area, not just because it was a tall building but that it was so massive that only thing to compare would be it’s Twin a few feet away.
I’ve worked as a maintenance man before as well as a firefighter, so I’ve been on plenty of roofs, but this is so unreal. You’re just floating in the sky with a bunch of antennae. It must have been really unique since most of the tallest buildings are narrow at the top, not wide and expansive enough to walk about.
Thank you for uploading this video. It’s a great way to honor your friend.
❤
And did you read about the mechanics to keep it from swaying (as much)?
@@bubbabiscuitcub no I haven’t.
And I would find it even more weird/slightly scary to know that one has to be able to climb the mast. The largest radiotower in The Netherlands is the Gerbrandytower, measuring 366 meter high (that's 1200 feet). With a sense of anxiety and strange curiousity at the same time I always think about the fact that someone has to change the airtraffic beacons on top of that thing, just like there's a crows' nest at something like 325 meter. A Dutch TV-anchor one time went up the tower (there's an elevator inside that goes up to 325 meter or so, the rest has to be climbed manually) and got out at 325 meter and looked straight into the camera: 'Well, we're here.' To than take two firm jumps up and down upon the metal crate that made up the crows' nest. '325 meter up in the air'.
I mean, I don't have vertigo, but jumping up and down like that would make me get nervous too...
But that structure is tubular and runs straight down if you are at the very top, while this tower had a large rooftop below. I don't know why, but for some reason climbing that mast and than seeing the rooftop below would probably raise some fear...
I recorded the North Tower in 1999 from the South Tower Top Of The World Observation Deck on the 107th floor. I actually filmed that Antenna on the North Tower with my 8 mm but that footage is long gone. Wish I still had it. Thanks for that view on the roof. I was amazed at how many antennas were actually up there. I will never forget those towers, they hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for that footage.
My irrational fear of heights can't cope with watching them go close to the edge with no barrier there.
Being scared of heights is not irrational.

There is no rooftop key. Once you are on the top floor, you walk up a flight of stairs to a door that you open. If I recall, I think you needed a key to get back in, or prop the door open. I do know that it went all the way to the first floor, but it only holds 1 or 2 people. It would have been a mob scene if they attempted that type of rescue.

5g is even worse it's disturbing to know what 5g will do.
The radiation at ground level is much less since EM radiation loses strenght logarithmically in the earth´s atmosphere, depending on humidity and line of sight etc...
But I agree with you, pulsed electromagnetic radiation (= digital) is much worse than the analog signals from the past and it is a horrific sight to see the cell phone repeaters in such close proximity to apartments or offices in cities. I´d never move to a city. Even here in the countryside there are at least 5 Wifi networks I can receive in my house. At least the next cell phone tower is 2 miles away... But using a cell phone is even more dangerous compared to the nearby towers. The towers have around 20W max RF in my country, but are at least several hundred feed away. Now your cell phone can transmit with up to 2W RF right next to your brain. With almost no distance for the RF to fall into the lower mW range... That is the biggest problem, talking for hours with your cell phone glued to your head.
At least everyone should use the speaker phone whenever possible...Blutooth ear plugs are almost as bad as the cell phone so don´t think they do you any good aside from handsfree operation.
And don´t keep your cell phone next to you while you sleep. The phone connects to a nearby base station a couple of times per minute to check which cell to use and compare signal strenght even when you don´t use them.
No, 100% certain this is RF interference. Depending on the direction the camera is placed the interference changes intensity.
Hello,
The main elevators stopped around floor 105. There were smaller elevators that went to the 110th floor. Then it was a walk up a flight of stairs to the rooftop.

Yes, the 'noise' and buzzing you hear is mainly from the TV antennas radiaiting energy into the camera. The camera is unable to reject the strong signal, so it causes the interference which you hear as buzzing and picture distortion.

Any time I look at the into about how the Trade Centers were, it makes me miss them despite being a literal 1st grader when 9/11 happened. I did read that while it didn't have the best offices due to all the space, there was such a "homey" vibe to it and it was an icon of old NYC.

Sorry to hear about your friend Rod, you can tell from the recording that he was a nice guy.
@ 3:30 thts exactly the tent where lots of jumpers fell on ...and holyshit it looks so small from up there.... damn
It's actually the roof to the Performance Stage that was there. Just goes to show how massive those buildings were to make a huge roof system like that look like a tent.
I don't think you could survive landing on a tent from that high
@ that is for sure there was a video by someone at a hotel across from courtyard and u saw people crash through the top of stage the speed at impact was crazy maybe 150mph very awful footage
@@brewcrew5854 I found still pictures on the internet of body parts all over the area. It's in one of my folders.Tough to look at.This video is tough to watch.
@@brewcrew5854 i saw that vid
jtcomms Very interesting video; unique perspective despite all the interference. Thank you for posting it. May your friend Rod rest in peace; I'm sure in one way or another you remember him, even for a second, every day. May their lives never be forgotten.
It will never be erased from my memory.
In a parallel universe, they have all of the asbestos taken out, the antenna was upgraded to accomodate UHD 4K broadcasting, and faster elevators. The Towers enjoyed a lot of tenants up until 2008 with the financial crash, and the Towers suffered some vacancy for a few years, and income from tourism declined a bit because money is tight. But in the mid 2010s, the Twins have started to recover financially.
Today, there's 4K videos of the Towers, 4K views from the observation deck, the elevators to the observation deck have a monitor installed similar to what's in the Freedom Tower in our world, showing the views and the Twin Towers in 4K quality. With modern smartphones, you no longer hear the humming of the North Tower antenna when up on the observation deck, you hear the wind blowing and footsteps. Speakers have been installed on the observation deck so that the muzak from the plaza can be played on the observation deck. The Twins are considered an 8th Wonder of the World, and have been featured in thousands of films and in video games. They are not in GTA III, but they are in GTA IV. The underground WTC Mall has seen vendors come and go, but it has survived dead mall phenomenon to this day.
Thanks so much for sharing this footage. The Twin Towers were my favorite landmark. So sorry for the loss of your friend. My deepest condolences to all the people who lost loved ones that day.
I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. RIP Rod Coppola
I wonder how dangerous it was to be up there with all that radiation, especially with all that interference going through your camera. RIP Rod and everyone else lost on 9/11
At first glance it looks like the top of a navy ship.
Same😂😂😂😂
Agreed
That’s what I thought it was n
Wow..I was just there less than 2 weeks before that video..spent the afternoon at widows on world bar July 4th weekend..9/11 will bother me till I die..I will never forget!
Imagine standing up there and seeing a plane go through the building you’re in ..
Stanley Praimnath didn’t have to imagine that. If you never heard of him, check out his story on 9/11
I been to the 88th floor … but never ever on top of the North Tower. My legs were tingling too when the camera 🎥 got closer to the edge.
Incredible! This may be the only ever footage filmed from the rooftop of THE north tower.
Oh Jesus Christ, I assume the North Tower's rooftop's was off limits to the public? Other than that inner ditch, I don't see any safety railings and I'm getting all jumpy by how close this video was shot to the edge of the building.
Scares the shit outta me to this day. About a minute in his friend or whatever walked to the edge and I got goosebumps. Incredible footage
It gives me that much anxiety that it actually makes me angry
I been in planes most of my life but for some reason being in tall building 20+ floor always give me the creeps
Wow, what a view! Now imagine in 1974, Phillip Petite strung a wire between the Nth & So. Towers & transversed it several times! Thanks for sharing the video!!🇺🇸
Thanks for this...I knew it must have been an antenna farm, but this is wild. Sorry for your loss....
I lost my girlfriend here in the North Tower. She worked on the 97th Floor. Still remember that fateful morning when I called her up at her office to check if she had taken my car keys mistakenly. My world ended an hour later.
sorry for your loss praying for you!
I was in awe as a kid when I would see the trades from the landscape views from the boroughs. I remember seeing the crane arm on the top. I miss those buildings. Nyc hasn't been the same since. 😔
Oh my, I am so deeply sorry for your terrible loss. May God truly bless your dear friend's beautiful soul. He is so deeply missed and I'm sure he was a real true and loyal friend too.
You can hear the interference from the antenna!
Amazing how much of the city's communication transmitters was just on one building
Thanks for sharing the video and may all the victims rest in peace
What is that ambient noise coming from the mic in certain angles? Are these guys being irradiated by the radio tower? I know it happens sometimes in the 90s Carrier Deck footage when standing behind the ICLS Radar dish...
Its the RF swamping the electronics of the camera. Long-term exposure to that RF is not recommended, as defined by ANSI and OSHA.
Sadly 2 months later those majestic buildings will be a part of history that no one wanted to a part of. Rest in peace to the nearly 3000 people who were murdered on September 11 2001
god bless you thank you for sharing such a personal memory. so sorry about your friend or friends you may have lost on 911
Its hard to think people were jumping from that height on 9/11 just to get one last breath of air.
Lethal levels of RF radiation, can be heard in this clip and others.. interesting.. I wonder how the people who worked up there was feeling after a days work.
Wonder if there was any shielding on the roof
It's like an entire radio network there. These buildings were freaking awesome.
I was on this one in 2001 and couldn't feel radiation.
Well not "lethal" radiation. It's not like gamma rays or xrays. It's non ionizing radiation. Probably operating in the 10-50Ghz range at a half a watt. Not terribly intense but there are a lot of them and they are standing right in front of them.
It can make folk "see ghosts".
I had an mri done, when that machine went on, the magnetic field made me terrified and I wanted to crawl out.
The techs are trained to say "it's the noise"...it was not the noise. 23 minutes felt like 3 minutes of me trying not to crawl out of that thing.
No wonder folk have anxiety and autism with all the brain scrambling that we get.
It’s interesting to think how such a inconsequential video became significant because it’s providing a view that is impossible to replicate now. Makes you think about not taking the mundane for granted.
So the white stick antennas were they like UHf or something? I and im sure many others would love to see more of these amazing rooftops and engineering spaces. Its incredible and really interesting. could people have escaped using the window washer thing at all? jeesh its so sad but Im vwry glad you shared this interesting footage.
July 15 of 2001 was the day I was born... Now after seeing this video, I realize how much fun people like you had with these towers, even on the day I was born... R.I.P. everyone
This shows exactly why helicopters could not land on the roof during 9/11
9/11 really hits different when you see that view. Imagine how it must’ve looked up there being above or at the impact zone….
I have never seen this before! Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry for your loss! :(
As the observation deck was located on the South Tower, many people recorded a video on it. However, I had never seen a video of the North Tower and was hoping to see one. That is why this footage is very unique.
