Even after his death, he doesn't fail to educate and help others. RIP. You were a gem and I hope your videos always keep getting watched and never fade away.
First time watching his videos
@@daytonsaiville9826 This man was taken too soon.
He posted a vid 2 weeks ago
@@bob6927 It's a re-upload to keep the memory alive. John sadly passed away.
Dang this is now about the eighth video I watched of his and I didn’t know it until these comments that he died. Does anybody know what exactly happened and how old was he?
Easy if you're in a relationship it's bulk time, single it's time to cut.
I've been cutting for 10 days now.
I’ve been cutting over a year but gained 20 pounds since then 😳
@@danielrushford4393 lmao. Turn that around now, the best medicine for a break up is working on yourself.
John, i was about to ask you a question. And it just sank my heart remembering that you passed. RIP Mountain Dog. I still come back to your videos very often. Thank you for all your valuable advice my friend!
When someone says "well Lee Preist did that"... Bro, you're not Lee Preist. 😆
One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made was bulking up/force feeding. Yes, the scale did go up but so did my bf% & stomach stretched out. Much easier to maintain a decent physique.
@Aaron drucker You just contradicted yourself about 5x in that paragraph. MK is right, bulking is waste of time & it's easier to maintain a leaner physique.
Yeah if anyone is embarrassed to take their tshirt off they need to cut!
@@everready2903 yea but what if your skinny fat? What are you supposed to do
@@heelrko9991 Stick with the big compound movements and keep your protein up. Eat good nutritious foods. Cut out the junk.
@@everready2903 thanks bro
Respect for Mr Meadows. I was training hard in my early 20s,but then i got married and my motivation got off. I really respect older guys in their 40s and 50s who are still motivated to train.
Hopefully, your wife will never read this comment.
@@Wowwow-tq7lu the fact that he didn’t reply shows that she heard... and it didn’t end well
7force rip 🪦
Same here..Start at 27yo..Married at 30yo..Off for two years.Motivation got off.After 3 years i start back...Off..On off and on...Time adjustment is a key.Wake up 5am everyday.Prepare my meals (5-7 meals daily) and i love it.Its a lifestyle.Sometime just take time off atleast for 2 days.
Its ok to start it back.Start with experience and make it balance. All the best brother.Never too late.
I started at 15, now I'm 39 and still motivated as F. If you are not motivated then lifting is not for you - simple as....
I didn't start until I was married for several years. It was a good way to get out of the house and it is a win/win. If she stays home I"m happy. If she comes and exercises I'm happy.
Every single word u said makes sense to me and hopefully all of us here ! John you’re so honest and you keep things real with all your fans and subscribes
I’ve watched too many fitness professionals to count on RUclips and none of them have made me come back to watch more.... and then there was John Meadows....what a humble legend. Completely transformed my training.
I just want to say 'thanks' for this video, John. Previously, I had this exact misconception about positive and linear correlation between caloric intake and muscle gains. And only recently I came to the same conclusion that in order to build actual muscle mass and not simply put on some weight you have to stay at ~9-12% bodyfat. In my case, I used regular weighting on a fancy BIA scales. Due to inconsistency of measures and slow progress, it is very difficult to be sure that you're going in the right direction. And this video, although short and simple, is very helpful for those of us who is lacking experience and wants to grow the fastest way possible.
I can watch Johns videos all day long. Never knew him but the vibe he gave off was something special
It's really pleasant to listen to someone sensible for once.
Plain and simple and to the point as always. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Thanks for watching!
Why can't John just run for President? Is it too late to write him in?
@exadakt they drank the bleach 😂
I’m watching; excited to see how it goes.
Hiya Doc
Very excited for the response video
Bulk harder then last time ?.... maybe not 😂
Hii Doc 😂
Ahh yes a rivalry as old as time
High quality information John. By far my favorite content creator. Keep up the great work👍🏼👍🏼
This is exactly how I do it.
When you are bulking, your aim should be to overshoot your maximum muscle building calorie requirement by as little as possible. And when you are cutting, your aim should be to lose as little muscle in the process as possible, which you achieve by going into only a small deficit, while increasing your protein intake even further.
John thanks for sharing your hard earned secrets! You give out QUALITY INFO every day! Thank you Thank you. It's hilarious when I read the comments and see all these people who are still following some diet rumor they herd in the gym or some youtube Yahoo instead of listening to the PRO John Meadows who has lived it.
I appreciate that!
Thanks John. Was questioning my choice to cut first as a new lifter but you confirmed I am heading in the right direction.
Rest in Peace. Every one of your video teaches me something valuable about health (from a non body builder perspective). I feel everyone can relate to your contents and can learn something from your content.

Valuable info man! A surplus of 300-500 works for me when I am in that ideal body-fat % range.
One of the greatest mind in bodybuilding. A true legend!
Incredible well thought out process. Thank you John , you answered all my questions in one video
Thanks John, great vid. You are looking good at the mo, hope you and family are all well
Great video, this is something that coach Greg would make a video of.
Thanks for leaving this for me brother ❤ R.I.P.
Just the info I was looking for.
Hey John :) I’m a tiny woman (4’11” or 148 cm and my weight fluctuates right now between 108-110 lbs or 49-50 kg) . I don’t know about my BF % , but I think it should be in the normal range for a woman. I’ve been training for 2 years at the beginning I did not eat enough. So I was very lean/skinny. Then a year ago I increased my calories aggressively :) (to 2700 cals max and I went up to 53 kg or 117 lbs) and now I’m at about 2000-2500 cals a days, which is maintenance- slight surplus. I think for women that want to put on muscle it’s important to know the value of “bulking”, I mean a good, conservative bulk. As women we want to always cut... and a lot of us simply need to spend a good amount of time eating enough.... we don’t need to go extreme to gain muscle I believe, otherwise we lose our shape.
I always like Johns videos before watching them!
This is incredible information!
Great video game m definitely gonna follow this strategy
No one needs to dirty bulk at the speed of light, I think that's where this is going along with Gregg's older video on the same subject. Steady weight gain, good food with a small surplus and a lifting programme that incorporates progressive overload is all it takes to build muscle.
Over the years , I noticed that also JM...8-15%...Glad you confirmed it.
I’ve been chasing that happy place you’re talking about for the first two years of my lifting career. Finally after my first proper cut, I’ve gotten my bodyfat set point down to 17-19%. And that’s with my legs lagging not as much as they could be, but more than they should be. I’m so excited for this next bulk phase, to catch my legs up and then hopefully I’ll be able to happily maintain that 15% I’ve been striving for. And it’s all thanks to guys like you on RUclips that give out the quality information. I’m so grateful for your content John! You have no idea how much of a positive impact you’ve had on the community
Hang in there! It takes low carbs, dedication, and lots of cardio. I had to cut my decifit lower than what a normal maintenance caloric diet should be for my age/height. Keep making small changes and find what works for you is all I can say.
@@colbylevi7 I prefer cutting from fat. The higher I keep my carbs on a diet the better I feel and the more energy I have to train. When I initially lowered fat and increased carbs a week into my cut I started making significant gains again. I recommend you try the same, I believe the literature supports this. I also have an active job, with a lot of calories to work with, 3600 a day had me losing 2lbs a week for reference.
@@dr.weeniehutjr everyones body is so individual. I have experimented over the course of a year and a half and my only results come with less than 100 grams daily of carbs. Believe me id love to eat carbs but staying lean between lean bulks is the key to a lifestyle for me.
@@colbylevi7 that’s interesting. So when you control for calories and increase carbs your weight loss stalls at a higher calorie intake than if you eat lower carbs? I mean you personally
@@dr.weeniehutjr for me personally I only lose .5-1 lb weekly on identical calories and exercise as I do with low carbs low fats. It sucks but it makes me really appreciate when I can incorporate carbs again and encourages me not to cheat and get fat again. Genetically im just not as lucky as the skinny guy that can slam fast food but I also gain muscle easier.
Ahh, the classic beach ball under the shirt! I did this at the nations biggest festival, Musikfest! Called myself buffet Bob and danced with lot's of women! It was a great time!
Awesome video John!!! You’re killing it!! Hoping to have a following like you someday! Currently on my way to 60 let’s go!!🙌🙌💪HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE!!! STAY SAFE STAY HEALTHY!!!🌎✌️
Fantastic video, super clear
I always enjoy these videos. Very informative. Much appreciated and much respect for all of your tips on training and nutrition.
Love the topic... I’ve been cutting for over 5 weeks now after a 4 week bulk... noticed the strength go right down... trying to decide when to go back to bulk.
I think I’m sitting around the high teens/low 20’s in body fat atm.
It’s tough to gain the muscle/lose the fat currently.
When I'm having a bad day all I want to hear is John say ....hello everybody😝
Same here, he could talk about almost anything and I would keep coming back.
Thanks John!!✂️🙏💪🏻
Another top video John.
These vids r so helpful man...
Post workout buffet sounds like fun LOL
Absolutely
I'm going to add that to my training schedule 😂
Clear cut & straight to the point! Enjoyed the info thoroughly! I like the 10-15% deficit recommendation - think I've been too aggressive every time I cut down.
Knowledge is spoken here.
Excellent!!! Thanks John..... greetings from Modena - Italy.
Good bless this man

This has been so helpful! Just started working out with corona and learning more by the day 👍🏼
Waiting for Greg's response, he's gonna love this video! 👍💪
Awesome info! Thanks. Time for a cut to 8-12%
Dog you're the man
Thank you
Great video I've been on a bulk and really let myself go towards the end 25 lbs gained but probably 10-15 lbs of fat lesson learned
Prob more fat 10 pounds of muscle is a shit ton
Lol the thumbnail is priceless 😂
Hope your health is doing well 💪
i really have to start cutting to get into that ideal range of 8-12% :)
Great info thanks a lot
Oh snap! Galactus in the background, automatic sub!!

Thank you!
the thumbnail though...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 be safe and well John!
Great, great video.
John; YOU ARE DA MAN!! 👌🏻👌🏻
I love these videos, but I think you should ask for a Silver Surfer figure for Christmas to go along with your Galactus one =)
i have a big one, I'll set it up for next time
Great video
I'm seeing 'greg doucette has entered the chat' for a while now, and now he is actually here.
Great video john, and there are many things that i learnt about bulking from you.
Thank you kindly!
I had a football coach many years ago that gave me a simple formula. Maintenance calories x your body fat percent goal will be your surplus. Then after your bulk the same number becomes you deficit. For example.
3000x12%=360 for my bulk then same for my cut. It’s simple and always worked well for me. However I’d use caution if your body fat is over 20%. This formula only works if you’re lean trying to gain muscle. Cool video
makes no sense
What do you think about the vertical diet? Love your channel. Started following you like a year and a half ago thru Antoine vailliant. . I try your workouts all the time. Switched over toEAA’s also! Thank ya.
It's good - just keep tabs on bloodwork (like with any diet)
4:35 ideal body fat for muscle growth 8-15%. I am at 25% always, regardless of my weight. I am really over some parts of my physiology.
Went from eating 1800,2000,2250, then went to 2500 and thought that was my maintenance calories but now I’m at 2900 and i haven’t seen no fat gain, not sure what’s my maintenance😂but staying at 2900, I feel good with that many calories, back then I didn’t know nothing, and thought the calc calories was telling me the calories necessary but then decided to go up my calories and with the one I felt like it was my maintenance and I’m really glad with what I landed now, I really knew I needed more food and more nutrients, but that was a lil story by me but I’m glad with this video too mr,John💯🙏🏽💪🏽
You should have more subscribers excellent channel!!!
Thanks John, do you have a preference of when you'd add 200 or so calories? And would you mostly play with carbs?
Thanks John very informational!John wick-Meadows for president 💪🏽
We will miss you. May God take care of your family.
im in my ideal zone about 135- 140lbs on avarage but i look super skinny. patience is a virtue. praying for faster gains😩
Things have changed since the 80s and 90s when we were youngsters 💪
Another great video MD-1.
I tried eating in a surplus while at 25% BMI and it isn’t as effective as a leaning out first, because visceral body fat stores estrogen. This in turn lowers the amount of Testosterone in your body limiting muscle growth. It’s much easier to gain muscle when you are at 10-15 percent body fat.
estrogen doesn't limit the amount of testosterone in your body. Its a byproduct of testosterone aromatization. What limits the amount of test (free) is the amount of SHBG.
10 to 15 isn't where most people are at
Instead of only the bodybuilding comp aspect of bulking cutting, what do you think about losing fat, then building muscle, or resistance training while dieting? I'm more interested in losing fat, but muscles at the end would also be nice.
