@@interstellar1149 Yep, makes and keeps a database with more/easier/quicker options... Finally, I have set up the search properly. Thank you so much for making this video and sharing step-by-step instructions on how to do so in Windows. You have saved me so much time. Many, many thanks.
I'm a little late here but I'm adding my 2 cents for people that come later too. The problem with removing the search box is that even though you don't need it to search for files it still comes in handy to find run programs without having to type in the whole name. In Everything you have to type in most or all of the whole name or in many instances you will get hundreds of hits of which you then have to sort through. I just turned on the search icon so the Toolbar still looks nice and clean and I can now use either one according to what works best for that particular search need. Thanks for a great tutorial
Thanks again Brian. This has really helped me! Am going to sitick with Windows search for now but will probably switch to everything as I have a multi drive set up.
I got a good one for you Mr. Britec, ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 2004 (and this is true for several of my computers) Personalization->Lock Screen there are red X for 'choose one app to show detailed status on the lock screen' and 'Choose which apps show status on the lock screen' . Can you help, nothing seems to work to bring the app icons back. You always come thru for me in past videos, so you were my first stop to try and resolve this issue
@@Britec09 I sorted the issue, it was a thumbnail viewer Icarus that was causing the issue. I uninstalled it, flushed the thumbnail cache and then reinstalled it, all icons have been restored.
With Everything, I didn't know about the "Address" toolbar, thanks for that one! But, I still use the Windows search (which I now have reduced to just an icon) just for finding Windows features.
Oh my God I do not believe what I see. I have been using this program everything like forever. Only today did I know that I can display the search bar on the taskbar how stupid i am . what a genius you are sir thank sir for this . definitely genius . WAW
I'm sure there are things better about Windows 10 when compared to previous versions, but the search feature certainly doesn't seem to be one of them given we never had to "set it up properly", rebuild index, nor go through any other crap for it to work. It would even have no problems finding whatever on any drive you plugged into it without any extra steps being necessary. I hate Windows 10... on this one thing at least.
I agree , the previous versions of win where pretty crappy but they did do a search well and prefer the old way at least it wasn't complicated like the new search seems to be what with all the other stipulations that have to be invoked. the old way you just typed in what you are looking for and it found it no matter where it was.
Hi love your vids on Windows you just click pictures and so on. Is there something on windows 10 I am. Using windows 10 I have vids pictures all over the place want to put them all in one place
Very, very useful! But I have a question: if I create a new index and I delete some files, do I need to recreate a new index or will Windows search refresh the index without deleted files automatically?
Hey Brian, How are you? For the last week, I am having a problem with my laptop, it just randomly shut down. I tried a lot of things but it didn't work and it's not a mechanical problem. I would really appreciate your help.
You can also scan downloads before executing them. Download to your downloads folder and then right click and scan with you preffered Software. @Aki Fx is correct, only download from trusted sites. If you have any doubt about the site then stay away. Brian knows his stuff and I trust what he says and the sites or apps he recommends. Out of habit though, I always scan every folder I download before installing.
for me i couldn't have that address bar taking up all that space anyways. That's icon country! my ultrawide at 4k has icons running the entire width of my screen and i still need to use rocketdock to put the lesser used stuff hehe.
@@ClayMann I have a 43" 4k monitor and I solved that problem by putting the taskbar on the right side instead of the bottom. Since we have far more space width wise, this is the perfect solution. I get about 70 items up and down the screen at once with no problem now.
@@jeffhalebopp that's good advice. I did have my taskbar left aligned. In fact over the years I've done it a few times but I always seem to come back to it at the bottom eventually. But you're right its a great idea. It was a good idea on 16:9 but 21:9 its even better. I liked how you could stretch the bar out to make running tasks readable and make quick launch areas with stacks of multi rowed icons. I think i need a therapist to explain why i still have at the bottom haha
The answer is dont bother as far as Im concerned. I found a FREE search program called Everything, its the fastest search I've ever known across any of the versions of the Windows OS. BUT why is Windows 10, which we were all conned into believing was the best OS EVER, actually one of the worst? Im currently having a massive problem with trying to do my weekly back ups of my data to hard disk drives and the problem is transfer speeds as low as 5mb/s whereas in previous versions of Windows, like Windows 8.1 you could enjoy transfer speeds of 200mb/s. It would be great if you could have a look at this for everyone of your subscribers and do a video on how to fix the problem, or even suggest a piece of software we could download to do transfers outside of the Windows OS? Thanks for all your videos they are all first class.

hello sir can you help me fix the game called league of legends because every time I play there is always something coming out it say (could not initialize graphics device) so please help me
Does some one know or how i can make it stop refreshing or restarting the search everytime it looses focus. So for example i have 2 windows, ill do a search in on window and let it run and get results, that all works fine. Now ill focus on that second window browser through some folders and return to that other window. Why does it restart the search and clears all the results? THis is really counter intuitive, its making me go nuts
Is it because its not added to the search indexing options? I noticed that local folder on the system dont show this issue. I then tested folder on a drive i dd add to the indexer and these as show and keep the results after the window looses focus. I kinda prefer the OSX approach, this indexes everything unless you dont wont it. This makes search much more consistent. On windows a user needs to manually add everything he/she wants to be indexed, thats quite counter intuitve again.
Important: Windows search cannot search maped network drive on LAN (whithout play/force them to do that...) In Everything options under section "folders" you only need to add all your maped locations... You can add mapped letter from "my computer" or add full path as example \\192.168.1.155\sharedfolder Simple and easy...
Indexing is another resource hog. Isnt it recomended to not use it for sake of SSD? I have it off and a well structured filing process. The less windows deals with my files the better. Good video though.
