Also, I want to share two shorcuts, the first one is ALT + P, you need to select a file and then hold ALT + P, you will notice a new window appears on the right, It shows you an image. And the other is ALT + SHIFT + P, a new window will appear on the right, It will show you a brief detail.

I didn't know about "Shift + Tab" to get to the Quick Access pane right away, thanks for that! 🙏🏽
Recently I discovered an app by Microsoft called "PowerToys", which has very cool features (and some gimmicks), such as changing multiple files names, but the best feature is remapping keys and shortcuts. For example, some people would be thrilled to deactivate the "Caps Lock" button, or change the unnecessary "Insert" to "Browser Back" in order to navigate easily.
Please do a video review for that app! I'm sure many users would find that super helpful. 😃

Also I was unaware of tabbing after F2 to rename. That's handy, though I offer use MS's own PowerRename to rename multiple files if they'll be similar.
Also, I like to use Ctrl-plus. That makes the column just wide enough to show all the contents.
Another one that I use that you didn't mention is Alt-P to toggle file preview. I usually turn it back off once I'm done since it slows down the rate with which I can change the file selection with the up/down arrow keys.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. A quick question - is there a way to open two file explorer views that change in real time, that is, if I used Control+N to open similar view file explorer, and then I select a specific folder (or sub-folder, or sub-sub folder) in the first view, the second explorer view also mirrors the folder selections made in the first view. Thanks,

You forgot however to mention my favorite win 10 shortcut, which is alt+3. This copies the full path of a selected item. You have to activate the shortcut first. Click Home > right click Copy Path then Add to Quick access. You can now use alt+3. The main reason, I haven't switched to win 11 yet is, that I could not find it there

    Hi John !
Very nice content, congratulations. As an Office trainer, I always show the exact same shortcuts, except for the shift + tab which I didn't know and I want to thank you for that.
One necessary thing is to avoid "merge and center", and to use the "center Across selection" option. Is there a shortcut for this ? I've been looking for it since a long time and always failed to find.
    Cheers from France !

    • @Vandalfoe

That's Excel, and there are no DIRECT shortcuts, but my many years of Excelling have taught me the following sequence for when I've opened a new file:
Ctrl-A to select all, then Alt-H, M, U. That will eliminate all merges.
To do the centering, I select the cells in question, and use Ctrl-1, Ctrl-PageDwn, Alt-H, End, up-arrow, Enter, Enter.
That sounds like a lot but It's actually easier done than said, so to speak. Especially once you're used to it.

    • @Vandalfoe

Just remember the Ctrl-PgDown won't be necessary on subsequent uses since the Format Cells dialog box remembers which panel you were on.

Off the top of my head, Related Queries:
    Q. 1 When searching within folders, after typing the query and pressing Enter, the view changes from detailed view to a non-desirable one as was also evident in your video. How to make it never change it from detailed view when doing searches.
    Q. 2 When hitting F12 in say an excel file to save it for a second time in succession, the save dialog box again does not adhere to detailed view and opens each folder in a different view (similar to Q. 1). How to also make save dialog box to strictly follow detailed view in F12 saves?
    Q. 3 I want to sort particular folders by recent. However, my global setting is sort in ascending order by Names. How to achieve that and make File Explorer remember that?
    Q. 4 One drive file renaming in quick succession is not possible as it keeps uploading in background and while one is trying to rename next file, it selects/deselects filename in-between that. Is there a fix for this yet?

      Hi Abhinav,
Great questions! Here are my answers.
      1. After performing a search, you can change the view to Details on the View dropdown (or use Ctrl+Shift+6). Windows 11 seems to remember this view choice for the next time you search. And even when you close and re-open Explorer. I'm not sure if Windows 10 does the same.
      2. Same with the Save As window in Excel. There is a View button in the top right corner of the window where you can change the view. Mine always defaults to Details, so I don't think this reverts back.
      3. File Explorer should remember the sort order for the specific folders. I'm not sure what the memory or cache looks like on that. It might not remember them after you restart your computer. You might want to do some research on that.
      4. I don't experience this issue. The F2+Tab to rename works for me with a OneDrive folder. It might depend on your connection speed and how fast you are renaming the files.
I hope that helps. Thanks again and have a nice weekend! 🙂

F4 to repeat last action is one I strangely had never used but will be super helpful going forward. Also, I know this is not a video on formulas but it is the most recent video so.. I have a workbook with 100+ sheets. I need to grab the bottom number (which contains the current balance) from a certain column of every sheet to include that balance in a report. Any ideas on how I can do this?

    • @ExcelCampus
      @ExcelCampus  2 года назад

Hey Stephanie, Great question! I assume that the bottom number is not in the same row on every sheet? If that's the case, one possible solution for this is Power Query. You could combine the data from all of the sheets/tables into one long table, then filter for the bottom row only. The bottom row would need to have a column with a unique identifier. Something like the word "Total" in each bottom row. This would give you a list of sheet names in one column and the "bottom number" value in another column.
If you wanted a formula based approach you could also use the new VSTACK and FILTER functions to do something similar.
Lookup formulas like Vlookup or Xlookup would work too, it would just be a lot more setup work for each sheet.
And finally, you could use a macro for this.
As with everything in Excel, there are a lot of options. 😁 I'll add this to our list for future videos.
I hope that helps. Thanks again and have a nice weekend! 🙂

    • @Rogue-Bull
      @Rogue-Bull 2 года назад

I don't think its easy to reply to your question with such a general statement. You didn't specify whether the number of sheets are constant, is the workbook generated frequently afresh or additional data added manually in that workbook only, names of sheets same/different, where's the report etc.

In the program, I also do a live monthly Q&A meeting to answer members questions and walk through solutions.

@@Rogue-Bull It is difficult to include all the details in a RUclips comment. Sheets are often being added to my workbook, additional entries to several sheets are posted daily. Each sheet is named by number, but not in sequence as they are account numbers. It would be ideal for me if the reported data could be in the first sheet of the workbook or in a separate workbook used just to track these.
Also, the bottom number is not on the same row on every sheet. It varies depending on the volume of transactions for each account (so each sheet).
