@@geraldhartley100% Correct. Nobody notices this but if you listen to Prelude 12 , and your guitar player. You can take that song and easily go right into the song CRYSTAL BALL 🔮 . Tommy's keys in most of his songs didnt deviate away from the Curelewskis songs. The transition from Curelewski to Shaw was smooth and just excellent plus Tommy did meet Curelewski after just joining Styx . Not surprisingly they hit it off and were good friends . Similar to years later when Glen Burtnik not only replaced Shaw but Burtnik shared the stage subsituting for bass player Chuck Panozzo and was in the band during the transition from Gowan to Panozzo.
JY's the guy who if he left, I would probably would stop listening to any new music from Styx. I believe Mr. Young is the one member who keeps the band going...
We may have caught him off guard because Tommy Shaw was originally scheduled to do the interview. When we arrived JY was waiting and explained Tommy had been dealing with a sore throat. Thanks for your comments. Please like, subscribe & share!
Dennis Tommy and JY all put out albums by themselves and only Dennis had any success. In 1991, Tommy was not in Styx, but Dennis and the band had a hit with "Show Me The Way". In 1996 to 1999 when they fired Dennis; Tommy and JY didn't complain about "Mr Roboto" and "Babe", instead they rolled around in the money that it made them..
@@hieronymusbosch6255 I'd expect nothing less from the portion of Styx's fans who are the rocker/meathead type. Party on duuuuude! I'm sorry you can't appreciate the actual talent DDY has and that part of a band's appeal is the different elements each member brings to the group. Don't give the least shit you say? Well I could give a shit less for Lawrence Gowan who should have his ego put back on the shelf for trying to step into DDY's shoes. It was Dennis' voice I grew up with....not his!

Nice that John Curulewski got a mention. He was my guitar teacher. Lovely, talented guy.
How cool is that. Was he your guitar teacher before or after he was in the band? I love Prelude 12 and Suite Madame Blue. He was fantastic.

JY you and Tommy Shaw are a legend, you are in the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame. February 3rd 2014. Awesome Job! 🎸
I seen Styx at the Omni in Atlanta in the early 80's awesome concert 🎸
Saw sticks yesterday! They are still amazing after 50 years! Gotta give my dad credit for getting me into them
My favorite group of all time. JY, you’re a blessing!
I love that song "Just Be" that Tommy Shaw wrote about his father. Its Amazing! 🎸

If a young musician ask you to mentor him or would you ?
Best JY interview I've ever seen. He is completely articulate and thoughtful--other times he always seemed kind of weird.

JY is the bomb
JY:everything is basically acceptable now.
Now: WAP
I can definitely hear the 'Minnesota Swedish' accent in the interviewer's voice 😉
I used to live up north in Grand Forks, ND
Very good
:)
I dunno man, if Not for Dennis seeing you at a Gig You'll be end up nowhere, God Bless JY.
Amen.
So why do they have a newer album out? COTC and The Mission are FABULOUS. DDY is yesterday's news.
If STYX gave a shit about their fans they want to see Dennis perform with his band. James you wouldn't be shit without the fans.
As a 40 year fan of Styx, I could not give the least shit if I ever saw or heard from Dennis DeYoung again. Just sayin'.

Styx is not Styx without Dennis De Young!
You can say that again.
All the songs JY mentions were Dennis creations. These guys failed on their own and stole the name Styx
Dennis did it to himself. Besides it's about the MUSIC not the singer. I will ALWAYS support JY and STYX no matter who is in it.
