Aged 42, have not heard this for about 25 years and still know every word. As this is my childhood, when i first heard the GI Joe version on RUclips i was mortified, it just isnt what i remember.....this is!
To be fair, the GI Joe version IS the original version. I don't think most Americans know that GI Joe was aired around the world as something else. Then again, Action Force got rolled into GI Joe anyways. I believe they changed the name to GI Joe: International and then just GI Joe.
This was my entire childhood, vhs, all the figures. Havoc ect. Me and my mate would watch the movie then play with the action force toys all afternoon, good times. Yo joe!
This was the kind of movie you watched going from a kit to a teenager. Quite adult in parts with real threat. That theme tune as well couple with the ace animation puts it as the best intro ever.
In the '80s, we had no idea that Alfred Pallet had died and that his company, Palitoy, which made the original ACTION FORCE toys, had been broken up and sold off. In America, Hasbro absorbed the ACTION FORCE name, and simply started shipping GI JOEs over from the States to be sold in ACTION FORCE packets. The rest is history... although us little kids wouldn't know the full story until many years later! "FULL FORCE!" 🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍
There is a rumour that there is gonna be an Action Force movie that will start filming next year, starting Joe Anoa'i [Roman Reigns in WWE] and Tom Büdgen [Malakai Black in AEW and f.k.a Aleister Black in WWE]
The Comic Book for Action Force (the original UK stories, not the reprints of the US stories) also made the Joes based in and coming from England, which means that it's technically an alternate universe.
You raise a good point! They could certainly be considered separate. Of course, back in the UK in those days, stories set in alternate continuities were not yet commonplace as they are today. *Battle Action Force* did a fairly good job of explaining the disparities in storytelling with an epic tale called *World Enemy No.1* in which Baron Ironblood gradually turned into Cobra Commander. The stories blended quite well. If a fan wanted to consider all the adventures to be part of the same continuity or not depended on whether or not they believed in Cobra-La! 😆 "Full Force!" and "Yo, Joe!" 👍
Goes to show that the music is a huge part of the intro. This is the version I first saw but the US version is SO much better! I also thought it was silly how the UK folks sprinkled Action Force mentions throughout, usually in a completely different voice than the original
the GI joe opening gave COBRA a intro song instead of that trash New wave synth loop that was used as filler before Duke appears at 0:48 Crashing through the sky, comes a fearful cry Cobra COBRA! Cobra Armies of the night, evil taking flight Cobra COBRA! Cobra Nowhere to run Nowhere to hide Panic spreading far and Wide Who will turn the Tiiiide then the GI Joe theme comes in
My country got the gi joe version, even tho they were called "comandos em ação/commands in action" here, but this feels so "empty" without cobra's part of the song. These parts made cobra feel like a threat even if you didnt knew anything about them, an organization so dangerous that our last hope were the "commands".
The first Action Force/GI Joe animated programme I saw was the full length animated film when it was released on VHS. It had an episode after it called "Sink the Montana." It wasnt until I was an adult when I learned that Action Force was GI Joe and the Full Force charge was changed from Go Joe!
That's what region-locked content made Americans think back in the 80s xD Here in Europe they always were "International Heroes" since day one, that was the packaging on the toys in many countries. In Spain, the TV show we got was the one for Latin America, not a specific European Spanish one, so it was dubbed and adapted in Miami. The theme song was just the background music, without any lyrics (but we did have the "A Real American Hero" line in the title, they couldn't be bothered to change that). It was pretty much like NATO: Yeah, they may be "international", but there's lots of American flags everywhere, so it just kinda made sense 😂
If I grew up with this intro and then heard the original movie intro- I'd be massively disappointed I had to wait for it. The original movie opening song is undefeated.
Yikes! That theme song cannot touch the real American hero version movie. They didn't even try in comparison. I feel bad for the people who missed out all those years ago.
The movie GI Joe theme is brilliant but the cartoon theme is utter arse. Action force is superior, just like the EU SNES is faaaar superior to that awful brick with violet buttons
I had absolutely no idea this existed. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, yay Capitalism, and I'm glad this movie did get exported somewhere. On the other hand.. this.. this feels like they massively cheaped out on this. I feel like I cheated my best mate out of his lunch money, and while I got tasty snack cakes and soda, he had to eat the bland free lunch.
Oh no, the actual version of the title sequence we got in the UK was waaaay worse than this - minutes shorter, no sound effects..... My take on it here keeps almost all the US footage, adds in sound effects, and adds in the UK dubbed "Full Force", and keeps the UK music (albeit extended).

Here's a crazy thing I have to ask, American here btw, how did GI Joe get passed off as Action Force, an International Force given the sheer number of American emblems, uniforms, appearances, etc on all the GI Joe members?
More often than not, as kids in the 80's we didn't know what specific Americanisms in the designs were so it didn't matter. We all knew it was a US-made cartoon (cos it looked like all the other Sunbow stuff and had the same music as Transformers). The toy bio cards were edited to add in different international place names, and there was a similar uk toy line called Action Force prior to GIJoe being rebranded Action Force so it felt more like an offshoot of that.
A lot of the US markings on the vehicles were removed from the sticker sheets, Duke didn't have the US flag sticker and some of the other Americans were still American but hilariously Leatherneck was supposed to be West German!
The music is just fine, not so patriotic and passionate like the original gi Joe movie intro, obviously modified for UK children audience, so not so good not so bad, just fine and they tried to maintain the spirit of the song... But is key interesting to note that and please correct me if I am wrong, this action force intro shows more images and animation that it didn't show in the original American release, so for this point and only for this point, I give a big Thumb Up for the action force movie intro... At the end, I have only this question: Is it exist more animation shots or images of this intro? Why is this more length than the original? Why the original American intro was cut off? What were the circumstances or reasons of how the action force version gained this extra footage? A lot of misteries to solve... Sorry for my English, my best regards to the uploader of this video from south America and YO JOE!!!! Ahh sorry FULL FORCE!!! (Or YO FORCE????) Shalom and thanks for all...
Prefer the GIJoe intro, but ACTION FORCE and the "Full Force" shout just sounds better than "Yo Joe" - like why would you yell "Yo Joe"?!? Sounds daft nowadays, and an international force sounds better than a US only armed force when a lot of the characters werent even American!
