- Ooh La La! French car manufacturer Citroen has long since relied on its reputation for comfort and chic refinement to sell its cars. The new C5 Aircross definitely lives up to this reputation, offering the world famous “Magic carpet Ride” suspension, some really plush seats, loads of the latest tech and a mid range option that’s refreshingly different in a market saturated with very similar products!
Under the bonnet is a choice of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines available with 130-180BHP. The new power plants are very economical, with entry-level petrol models capable of around 40mpg. The diesels will probably suit higher-mileage drivers, but are now subject to a company car tax surcharge.
All cars have Citroens Progressive Hydraulic suspension, which does a great job of ironing out the lumps and bumps around town and copes with the deeper potholes on the country roads with ease. The suspension set-up also makes the Aircross a really efficient high-speed motorway cruiser.
The interior is very nicely designed with a large touch screen and touch sensitive buttons for the basics beneath it. The digital instrument display behind the steering wheel is really good, with crisp high resolution graphics. This is fully adjustable to your own personal preference.
The 8” central screen is standard on all models and all versions have Apple CarPlay as well as android mirroring. Entry level cars get rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloy wheels and a full suite of safety options, including autonomous emergency braking in town. Move up to the next trim level, the Flair and you’ll get bigger rims, an integrated dash cam, sat-nav and tinted windows. Top of the range Flair Plus cars get keyless entry, a panoramic roof, wireless phone charging and an electronically assisted tail lift in addition to the lower trim levels.
In the boot theres a large 600 litre load area and folding the seats down gives a whopping 1,630 litres. Room in the back for the passengers is more than adequate with three full size seats on offer. There’s no seven-seat model as yet and all models are front wheel drive only, which is a shame, however, Citroen to offer a grip control system as an option.
So many modern smaller more compact SUVs are trying to be stylish and sporty, which results in some weird looks, wheels and tyres as big as tractors and a most uncomfortable ride. The Citroen C5 Aircross is totally the opposite, with bundles of style, plenty of space and a super comfortable ride, which is exactly what makes a great compact SUV.

Never needed blind spot mirrors as I am capable of physically checking the blind spot like I was taught.
That little orange light that keeps going off on the wing mirror is BLIS or blind spot monitoring, seems you never noticed lol.
Picked my flair plus 1.6 petrol model up friday and just to confirm it does have blind spot warning indicators fitted.
Thankyou AJ, a true English gentleman
The headroom is bad due to having the 3 individual seats. ( raising up the seats allows for a wider seat) is designed for 3 children. So not a mistake, just a trade off. Perfect for the family.
Great down to earth review. 👍
Thanks for your positive comment much appreciated
Very nice car and lovely interior too, definitely considering one of these in the future especially for the comfort and camping trips👌👍🏴
It has blind spot mirrors!
Another amazing video and you are very interesting to watch daily!! The car looks very stylish and modern, I am thinking of getting one. Could you do a review on The Mitsubishi Shogun Sport.
Thanks got your kind comment. I will ask Mitsubishi but it all depends if they have a Shogun on the press fleet
Lovely Car....I have the Peugeot 2008 Premium Allure and mine has a panoramic glass roof also...love my car...Can I ask you, how do you record your videos whilst driving...what device do you use? Many thanks, Catherine :)
Great review AJ !! This is such a great car. Very polarizing and not everybody will like it. It's comfort is superb. I have owned diverse Citroëns but the Progressive hydraulic Cushion dampers are a great invention. This Car is a class on it's own. Citroën is back on track ! By the way great jacket ! Is it from Barbour International ??
Thanks for the positive comment, always appreciated
Great review ! Had one of these as a hire car in diesel form which had tremendous torque and 60's mpg. All the car you will ever need. Not a big fan of hybrids from personal experience,a bit of a con actually
I got one, and it does have a blindspot mirror.
Why isn’t the C5 Aircross offered with LED headlights in the UK, even as an option when they’re offered in other markets where it’s sold? Here, we have to make do with old-fashioned *halogen* headlights - welcome to the 1990’s!
I have a flair plus model and the lack of LED headlights is the only gripe I would have with the car. I spend alot of time on the motorway/dual carriageway and it is such a comfy car, slap it into cruise control and let it steer the way!! Best seats EVER! Obviously doesn't have the badge status, but I couldn't give a sock!! Boot is massive (Toddler) and the 3 individual seats in the back is awesome!!
The flair plus that you are driving has blind spot monitoring as standard it must have been deactivated
The car I test drove, same version has blind spot indicators. You can see them in other reviews working
Interesting comment maybe there is a manual way of turning the blind spot mirrors on/off?
Hi, I have a 19 plate Flair and it does have blind spot indicators, you turn them on/off from the safety menu through the car icon on the touchpad. Hope that helps!
wa just on my way tomorrow to go and buy the Skoda Karoc 1.5 150cv GT Line. but now I see this and NOW what should I get ??? all confused now, what would you go for ??
I haven’t driven the Karoq as the guys at Skoda won’t give us any cars to test they don’t even read our emails? I can only advise a test drive in each
What did you buy eventually?
Is it consumes ad blue
No mention of engine performance or auto box satisfaction
Fancy wasting money on an alert system that tell you you should take a break. I mean, no one has ever caused fatal accidents by falling asleep at the wheel... oh, wait...
Great car but the space available for the legs in the back seats it is not so great at all.
Not only that, but upfront it's not all that spacious, either (a little better than the Peugeot 3008 it's based on, but that's not saying much). And I am not sure about the choice of materials. All that plastic really nauseates me. Mechanically, it remains to be seen if the car is made of quality components.
A full-size space-saver ???? LOL !
Sometimes you just need to fluff it up. Thanks for the comment
You should of been an actor in Harry Potter, lost brother of dad Weasley.
🤣great comment never ever thought of myself as Ron Weasleys uncle.....acceleratus!
@@AJThePlayerRUclipsChannel by the way ordered at my work in brussels an aircross c5 shine full option , yes yes also with nappa brown massaging seats 😊(1.5 hdi automatic) , but just took 18 inch rims instead 19, because of ecology reasons the 19 inch wheel has only a 205 witdh tire.... And the 18 inch 225( they removed the 235 tire). Anyhow great review.
To mention, had to take the 19 inch tires with the automatic gearbox. because of CO norms getting stricter ...
Your UK prices are insane. At 35K quid, this car is about $45K. Ridiculous.
Stupid comment about the diesel engines they are making them because they are fuel efficient and clean unlike electric cars with their Giant batteries.
My 2007 berling rides better than my mates e class Mercedes. That’s his opinion
