So far my ID.4 Pro S I've had now for 2 months continues to amaze me. Makes for easy passes on rural and interstate highways. Quiet as a church mouse on the road. The seats are so far the best I'd run across and most certainly superior to the Mach-E and Tesla's. Sat in both those and they don't compare. I've not had any glitches with the Infotainment as some reported early on. The OTA update will likely still be a good thing. On the interstate at 85mph it's like you're in a space ship. Smooth and quiet.
What is your 100% guesstinated range after using it for several months now? I have a Model S 75kwh switching to Pro S in october. I get appr 215 miles of guesstimated range after 4.5 yeara of use
Thanks for championing the ID4, Kyle! We traded in out 2019 Tiguan 9 months early for the ID4 Pro. 3yr lease with 3yrs of free charging was a no brainer. Watched all your ID4 coverage before getting ours. Thanks again!
Interesting. I got the FE with bigger wheels to 234, but with more varied speed. Most of it >70mph. We need to do these tests in a Hyperloop. But without the vacumn.
Thanks for testing a basic model. I know between model tiers they usually have different EPA range. I took ownership of a ID.4 Pro 2 weeks ago. I’m always amazing when I get in and go.
Really appreciate getting to see reviews of the base Pro version of the ID.4. I’ve reserved a Pro AWD model. Estimated delivery isn’t until April 2022 so I’m still evaluating the options.
@Andy Kainz I'm wondering is it going to look the same as the European coupe model Id.5 or like this version ID.4?🥴 I know it says on the website ID.4... I just like the European versions taillights the rest of the ID.4 can stay the same.🤔👍
@@MsKewi-NYC I think you’ll be a little disappointed then, due to FMVSS regulations, we can’t get the cool taillights, OR the fancy matrix headlights that only dip where oncoming traffic is… thanks to regulations created in (at best) the 60s I think? Plus, it’ll look like the ID4 from Europe.I don’t think we’re getting the ID5 yet, though the Audi Q4 e-tron comes in the “coupe”/fastback style.
Awesome range from the ID4. Realistically we only use 90% of battery before recharging. So, its 0.9*230=207mi which translates to 2hr45min of highway driving.
I don’t understand how they can engineer a car to drive off of an electric battery but can’t figure out that piano black is the worst thing to use for touch surfaces.
These videos do good public service to let us know the actual highway range - because the carmakers don’t tell us. This is going to be a problem with EV adoption among the “normals” and not us EV nerds who watch Kyle’s videos. Last weekend I was talking with new ID.4 owners who had taken theirs on a trip. I asked how they did with highway range and they just laughed and said “a lot less than 260.” Car buyers are used to getting BETTER range on the highway. No one tells them they’re going to lose 15% range even going under the speed limit. That’s not too bad when leaving with a 100% charge, but on the second or third leg of the trip after charging to 80%, your 260 mile car is now 180 miles (if you don’t mind running it under 10%). 180 miles is 3 hours of driving, but with most EVs not starting from a 260 mile point, it’ll be less. I know the EPA lists separate city and highway MPGe, but the highway range should also be prominently featured along with the advertised city range.
We have the same color (moonstone grey), but with 21" and a glass roof and a head pump. This vacation we took it to Italy. No problem what so ever except that we got a flat rear tire, and as the tire is a run flat self sealing our ID4 did not have the "foam" and airpump to fix the tire. The flat tire happened on a Friday night, and every pump station was closed and no air pumps. The tire was also to much damaged to self seal, so we needed a new 21" tire. No way in hell to get this tire easily in Italy ended up buying a new (Pirelli) tire to get back home to the Netherlands (about 1500 km drive). Anyway, The car performed great, and even better in the mountains !
I wonder how it would be with 4 people and luggage for a road trip with some hills to climb, A/C on high and 75 mph. That's real world in a trip to Las Vegas from Los Angeles in the summer time. Might be a little sketchy.
Well I bought the car and drove it from Santa Clarita California to Las Vegas. Three adults, luggage and outside air temp of 95 degrees. Ran A/C set at 70 degrees. Had range anxiety the night before. Left with full charger got to Barstow with 39% left on the battery. Charged up to 80% which took 17 minutes. Drove to Baker and top off to 80% which took another 17 minutes and proceeded to Las Vegas. 100% easy. Really enjoyed the drive and very happy with my purchase. Had the cruise control set at 75 mph.
82 kwh battery should be 74 kwh usable. With 229 mile range, that is a little less than 3.1 mile per kWh, which fits with the readout of 3.0 miles per kWh.
This color is really growing on me. Love the base, just wish you could spec it with a glass roof. With market being as crazy as it is right, considering trading in my Model Y lease early and walking away with a $8-10K check. Then turning around an possible getting an ID.4 AWD.
I just bought the id.4 pro because i needed the most range. And will drive on b mode. The reason why is because i love Volkswagen i love gasoline vehicles BUTTT i think we need to be honest with everyone. Alot of lower class people or people who struggle drive cars that ruin air quality. I live in CA and i see it. So people who are struggling need to switch to the ev's. But middle class and up usually get smog checks. And our gas vehicles won't ruin the earth. However im still gettin this car. And hopefully hydrogen cars are next
My next door neighbor bought one a month ago. Hit a deer 10 days after he bought it and the dealer didn't have any parts in stock since it so new. It's his first EV and is having a bit of range anxiety. He's an engineer so he's always in the "what if" mode. I.E. What if I have an emergency and just got home and don't have enough charge or some such thing. I figure he'll get over it after a while. That being said, this will probably be the EV I get (Pro S AWD) if the Ioniq5 is out of my price range.
I wouldn't say it's Earth-shattering either. Our '22 Kona Electric got 4.6 mils / kWh on a recent road trip Jersey to Maryland (about 230 miles each way). I think it might go 280 miles on a charge, well over the 258 EPA estimate of 258. It's a range monster.
I wonder if the brake lights behave the same way while in B mode and cruise control is on. What I mean is with my foot off the accelerator aka "gas" pedal while in cruise control and the car is in constant speed in B mode, will the break lights be always off? Is it alright to be in B mode constantly while in cruise control?
Official WLTP is 520km (323mi) for this model, realistic range should be around 410km (254mi). I guess that's only when you stay off the highway... Have to say that 368km (229mi) is still quite disappointing, especially since the fastest charge rate of this model is 135kW and you will never drive it from 100% to 0%, so realistic range will be more around 300km (186mi). I'm reconsidering ordering this, but I guess there's really no alternatives in this price range if you want this kind of space and an electric vehicle. The plug-in Hyundai Tucson suddenly became more interesting but unfortunately I can't even order one because they are no longer taking orders where I live (same for the Ioniq 5).
Has anyone done an ev range test simulating a family trip ? Multiple people and luggage weight? That's a pretty important test, not everyone road trips alone and that will definitely affect the range correct?
so much better value compared to the mach e, much faster charging speed, more efficient, more range compared to the base mach e, cheaper, and 3 free years of charging. I drive my i3 in Eco pro and Eco pro + all the time because if I drive it in comfort mode it's quite darty and I've accidently gotten a speeding ticket because I was driving in comfort mode.
Drive both our tesla in chill and wife's id4 in eco all the time. Plenty of power for the commute and slow 60mph freeway and 35-45 rural road speed limits
I typically cross a 250 mile "dry" stretch with no charging in order to visit my daughter in Flagstaff. How is the range at 55 mph? i.e. what is the electric motor efficiency curve looking like?
my range estimate in recent weeks have reached 300+ miles, based on my driving style of feathery pedal effort and usually under 60 mph on interstate. naturally, the estimate after 100% charging does not account for ac usage. So getting 250 miles should not be a problem except going uphill on snowy days.

However, if a new driver ever purchased this car from us in the future there is no way to determine if the battery has any reduced battery capacity. We asked our dealership if we can erase historical driving pattern data to determine if the battery has reduced it capacity and they informed me that there is no way to perform this action. This is a beautiful car but I would not recommend this car to anyone unless they have purchase warranties to cover the constant fault we have in our car. The car was put on the charger for three hours, and then it started burning from the inside of the back of the car, this was the fifth charge
The manufacturing defect was proven by civil protection reports and technical and engineering reports.
