What's Toyota's most expensive SUV like to drive at night?
Much like the coastal redwoods after which it is named, the all-new 2023 Sequoia makes an immediate, indelible impression. The three-row SUV is all new from the ground up, and it aims to elevate the full-size segment with luxurious comfort, impressive technology and breath-taking performance from an efficient new hybrid powertrain.
On the surface, the “Sequoia” name is befitting of this large SUV because of its size. Peeling back the symbolism a bit more, the species of tree is not only the largest in the world but it’s also one of the strongest and most stout, known for its longevity with some being nearly 2,000 years old. Seeing the forest for the trees, the “Sequoia” name for Toyota’s largest SUV represents its stature in addition to its long-lasting quality, durability and reliability. The all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia is projected to be available in summer of 2022.
Premium and Powerful
This third-generation Sequoia is completely redesigned and worthy of the “all-new SUV” description. All 2023 Sequoias will feature the powerful twin-turbo V6 hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain. First unveiled on Tundra, this exceptional hybrid produces 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque.
i-FORCE MAX isn’t just big on power, as this cleverly engineered powertrain features a unique motor generator within the bell housing between the twin-turbo engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. This design provides both maximum performance and amazing efficiency, and it is designed and built with heavy-duty performance and demand in mind. Fuel economy estimates are not available at this time, but the i-FORCE MAX’s output it is expected to be extremely competitive at the top of the segment - and a huge improvement over the previous generation.
Sequoia will be offered in 2WD or the available part-time 4WD system on SR5, Limited, Platinum and Capstone grades. TRD Pro will be offered only in 4WD. The part-time 4WD system relies on a transfer case, controlled via a lever on the center console, to select between 2WD, 4WD high or 4WD low.

2:45 The heated steering wheel button is on the left because it's a feature only for the driver, whereas the heated seats are on the center because even the passenger should be able to turn it on for themselves.

Compared to my 03 sequoia limited its pricey😅 , however my 03 has 368k on it still rolling too. Tell Toyota I'll buy a new one one day. 20 years later and I'm still loving my Toyota.

Hey Kirk, awesome review, I really like these nighttime drives. I think the sequoia is the best-looking full-size truck second only to the GMC, but they both have the top spot IMO. How would you describe the ride in this on a scale of 1-10. I have been driven in an LX with the hydraulic suspension and it was so freaking comfortable but it just doesn't have enough space, how does the sequoia compare to the LX in terms of ride quality
The one time Toyota brings on ambient lighting and they screw it up by citing 'safety concerns' while driving... One of the reasons toyota/lexus interiors have been lacking behind in the segment is the lack of ambient lighting. Even with the new generation Lexus models like the RX/NX that have multicolor ambient lighting, as soon as you put the car in drive it immediately dims to a point where you don't even know its there. Hope this could get fixed in a software update. Take a note from Mercedes Toyota/Lexus......

I have that same screen on my -22 Tundra 1794. Nice, but also a bit distracting. Lately I have it turned off, easily done in setting, turned back on with a tap. Love that Tundra though! Have not noticed "the bad turning radius".

I'm pretty sure there is a ambient lighting button up near the rear view mirror by the map light where you can turn it on again

There is a way to turn off the augmented sound. You would have to. Take it to a dealer and have to connected to a computer to turn it so it can have that quiet feel to it.

Steering seems to be ⚡️Electric Assist, and probably why turning/turning radius requires so little input/resistance

I would not be surprised if you can go into vehicle settings on the touchscreen and find an option to keep the ambient lighting on.

It's interesting that my phone turns on a blue light filter at night to reduce eye strain. All I see are blue lights on this interior at night. My '02 Sequoia uses green and is easier on the eyes.

Agreed. The LX is similar but smaller inside and doesn’t have a pano roof or fully digital driver instrument cluster. Just lacking all around for the price.

I looked up the owner manual online, and the only setting on the ambient interior lights is the duration. Maximum time is 30s. Off is an option as well.

If I spent a lot of money on an SUV, I’d strongly consider this one. However, the price tag and fuel costs are hard to swallow.

The ambient lighting in my Camry stays on when I’m out of park but It does dim ever so slightly
I like Sequoia 😘 more than Lexus LX600: ride quality, exterior design, interior design, front dash design, and size. If I could spend over $100K for an SUV, I would choose the flagship Range Rover. But I love 🥰the 2023 Sequoia. Night review, love everything, love all.
I highly doubt the ride quality of the Sequoia is better than the LX600

Approach lights , massage seats, air ride missing at this price point. That ambient lighting turning off is pretty sad.
Yeah and majority of these don’t even have an adaptive suspension because it’s packaged in with the rear load leveling option that’s damn near impossible to find.
The New Toyota sequoia Full size SUV Interior Ambient lighting should be able to still on if you Choose , and still should Offer a V8 engine Powertrain as a option !!!

A base model Sequoia starts at 60k and you call the LX overpriced? At least the LX doesn’t force a hybrid on you.

Not on the competition. My 22 Yukon Denali rode great. But ride quality on this definitely depends which suspension you get on the Capstone, though.
If you’re shopping for an LX600, just get this instead. It’s better looking, nicer inside, more features and a lot more power
It's not nicer inside. Not close. It's louder and rides rough compared to LX
