I think it is time to rethink the fiscal model overall. Which is disruptive, I get it. However, we are starting a new model that operates on 10% of giving and 90% goes back into the community. I also don’t believe tithing is a New Testament concept. Love Niewhof though!!!! Keep it up!!!!
Have you ever looked up the word “tithe” in the New Testament?
@@olabashanda 100% it comes from Deuteronomy 14. Once every 3 years they were required to tithe what they had harvested to levites, widows, orphans and foreigners. Once a year they were required to use the first 10% to celebrate God’s goodness. After the temple, there was no need, which is why we see no call in the epistles. Corinthians is as close as it gets with a call to be generous with a joyful heart.
It is a very rare man that is not corrupted by a tithing salary. NT giving has been completely hijacked

Hey Carey, First let me say I’m a subscriber and a dedicated podcast listener every week. Clear up my confusion please. When you were referring to 90% now give online according the research, is that 90% of the roughly 10% who give on a regular basis, so they have simply shifted there giving from one method to another??? Many churches, ours included, have an average age of over 55. Significantly, our giving is concentrated on those over 60, so this may explain some of the slow transition to digital. Does that line up with what you know about giving?
In my experience the over 60 crowd is more open to technology and online giving than we think.
David's comment has been true in my experience. However clear communication up front is a must if tech is not their natural tendency.
Should a lead pastor make a higher salary than the majority of the congregants? Should they live in a house that reflects the top 1% of their congregation? Should they drive 60k+ vehicle?
I moved back away from online giving when I saw how many church apps increased their fees (way higher than a check).
fees certainly add up, researching what works best for your context is important
