I've attended a church just like that. I was sure God told me to get out, but I thought I was being critical so I kept going. I started having panic attacks at church, and dreams of demons dressed as angels flying around in the church and suddenly attacking people. I also had other dreams about the members of the church that I can't repeat here. As soon as I quit going, the dreams ended. It wasn't until after I left the church that I began to understand the demonic spirits that were actually in charge at that "church." I believe it is becoming almost impossible to find a true church these days. Those that have one near them should be grateful!

Mine only surrounds herself with dumbasses. People that don't have a plan or have anything to do. You can literally come up with whatever, the lamest excuse to do something, like watching a tree's flowers grow on a Sunday or Saturday BBQ and they'll pick that spot just to watch it. (Which is still a good thing) but the message is that they don't have any will in their lifes... They're just people that surround her that basically think and feel like they don't have nothing to do in their lifes. They just wake up because we're obligated to wake up and they have nothing to do. When you see how they are, they don't have an opinion in their classes.. you can ask them what are they going to do today and they say "nothing" "just rest" or "see whats coming today" like they have no will at all. You can ask them how does anything make you feel and their just stupid right there with no will at all. And I feel like people like that anyone could recruit them because they have nothing to do at all they don't have any plans they're always quiet low willed and some (a portion) of them are grown mentally illed people. Like special. Very bad studdering problems thinking problems and growing up problems. And people like that, that when they were in school and the teacher would say "partner up, were about to do a project." They would just wait for everyone to get picked and then at the end whoever domestics or gets picked by anyone. They'll look at each other and say "nobody picked you, nobody picked me, so I guess we'll partner up" and thsts like that 24/7 365 growing up all day because they still to this day can do that. Its kinda like that little plant that bites down on mosquitos and stuff when it gets brought to them. But they're not animals anyways any ways that input it like this is going to sound disrespectful and I'm not doing it like this. The point is that they're in there "just because they woke up" and you can never take pride into dojng something like this. Were im from there's a saying that says "tell me who you're with, and I'll tell you who u are" and people like this you can never take pride into having or recruiting to have such around because literally anyone and I mean anyone "can get them" all the other ones that can think and have thinked, have ended up leaving the church. and she doesn't see that. She thinks everyone is wrong but herself and her husband. Like I saidnlike if she must think that people are stupid for her to have to be a pastor and thats what she surrounds herself by by people who are very sloth in their way of thinking and that they've had and still have family problems. And jts ok to have people like that because they all matter but what is not ok is that thats all she surrounds herself by. And thsts a problem because souls are being lost by that. And she still doesn't attend her real life priorities.

When a Pastor lets on like he knows God's specific will for your life and doesn't want you doing something that you thought about doing (i.e, going to school, buying a new car or house, moving to a new town or city). He does this without asking you about your plans, without going over scriptures and praying for God's will about what you would like to do. He merely says, "That's not God's will for your life." and he doesn't like it when you talk back. This is wrong.

Yes I agree. However, the problem is that in practice, it’s the Pastor who has the title and the power, thus making it easy to take the “whip hand” and “punch down”. I was part of an Eldership team with a Pastor just like the one described. If you questioned (even Biblically) or gave any hint that you didn’t fully support you were ostracized, gaslighted and ghosted. It got so bad that I had to leave a Church where my wife and I had been in membership for over 30 years! I had been an Elder for 20 years. The Pastor was dismissed one month ago but we had already lost many valuable members and leaders. We are now settling elsewhere.

Ugh, there was a study in canada done that showed that 30% of clergy/pastors have full on narcissistic personality disorder. Many of these people go into ministry for the power and control over people. Pastors should be chosen from among the flock after being proven. Problem is that now it is considered a PROFESSION and hierarchical office instead of a gift or a role within the church which breeds all sorts of issues. Because they now have to go to bible school/seminary it also creates an entitlement attitude, that they have EARNED their position of authority and that people must submit to them. Hiring/interviewing pastors is a problem too because theres no way to really discern their character. It’s really sad because a lot of people end up being hurt or manipulated by pastors instead of being served, pastored, encouraged and fed. The main practice of a pastor/elder is shepherding by SERVICE. The greatest must be the lowest servant. A lot of pastors are arrogant and self righteous which is going to make them poor leaders.

These were some really great points. I had never experienced such betrayal before. It took me months to forgive them and let God deal with them.

I came from under a pastor with the exact characteristics you described. He started out well, educated and equipped. The church, the members, literally fell apart. The building was sold and a new church was started for those who lived closer to the pastor's residence. It hurt the congregation deeply. I believe we loved them but they did not love us because of our economic status. It left many with emotional scars like coming out of a bad marriage. We all have continued in the Word of God faithfully as we do keep in touch with each other. I keep him in prayer.

I went to church today after having this tugging feeling in my heart and mind for months. I just feel like I’m being called to be out in my community helping those who are homeless or mentally ill or at correctional facilities, etc. and the service I attended talked all about volunteering and being OUT in the community in groups. To help those in need to give others hope with the Lord. So I spoke to the pastor after the message and said, “I’ve been wanting to do this for so long. The message really spoke to me today. Where can I sign up to help and join your volunteer groups?”
So the pastor says, “We get help through offerings. Go to this Bible study, it will change your life.” And I was so discouraged that they spoke on and on about volunteering and helping out, to simply turn me away.

So sad to say that I have left my church after 20+ years of service there. New pastor came 2 years ago and it was great for a year or so. But then families started leaving for many reasons and when I started looking into it I realized that he just likes a good argument and he’s good at it. I called him on it and of course he turns the whole thing around so that he looks good and I’m questioning my very existence.
Even though I have been the worship leader there for the last ten years, I’m out. Turned in my keys. Unfortunately, my wife is having a difficult time with it because we are leaving a church family with 20 years of service together. I’m hoping that she can plug into one of the women’s bible studies held outside of the church building to help her deal with the loss. I myself am just glad to be away and hoping to soon find a healthy church to serve out the rest of my days.
That can’t be too much to ask!

So I have been praying to God to show me whether to stay in this church or not. I'm getting the message to leave. I just got my masters degree in marriage and family therapy. It wasn't easy. I worked hard and when I told the pastor I passed my test it was a small "oh good." No quick mention of congratulations at the pulpit as he does for other congregants about achievements. Its only when it serves his purpose. I have been called by Christ to be a counselor, and graduated from Liberty University at age 63. The recent incident before this one I tried to convince the pastor for me to run a two hour presentation regarding child sexual abuse for awareness and prevention. He made light of this, saying "well this is secular", not telling the congregants the importance of these horrible crimes against children. We asked him to watch a video on this so he could understand. When he introduce this to congregants what myself and a manager from the child advocacy center present this, he said it quickly as it was no importance, saying I don't think there will be dinner so you will have to get something, etc etc. He never explained how important it is that we help these children and the importance for us to recognize the warning signs abused children display. How can helping children be secular? And these people who suffered from an abuser, now grown up tell their stories on this video wishing there were someone to help when they were children. He never gave us the courtesy to watch the video. Many told how prayer began healing them and how they had to forgive the abuser, etc. He made an excuse why he couldn't show up. 10 people showed up but it could have been much more.

I am part of a church, where we were 12 people in 2012. God used us mightily and grew, finally we had some money to sponsor a pastor. By this time, we became around 240 people. This pastor came, changed the constitution, threw all the leadership out and recruited YES men leaders (he did practically everything or almost everything mentioned in this video, from what I have seen, he has also done many good things, I do not deny that.). Now, we have greatly reduced in numbers and we are hardly 30-40 people now. I suffer at many occasions (am not at peace serving. I do not believe in bitterness when you love something that you do.). People have created gossips (this greatly affected my private life) and the leaders themselves have created false narratives about me. I do not want to disrupt anything at church, cause I know how difficult it is to spread the gospel. I have now come to the conclusion to leave the church. Simply write the leadership a letter thanking them for their love and fellowship...however, after much thought and prayer, you feel the time is right to move on. I had to come to this same decision a couple of years ago.
The vision of any church can play its part in 'fitting' ones own passion. The leadership cannot afford to camp around their own 'idea' of how they like church to be, especially if it is centered around 'their' gifting alone. These people were my friends and church family, but I was dying on the vine. No evangelism in any fruitful form had the church slowly seeing the younger people and families move on.

    3.) Lack of financial "integrity"
26 seconds in and I want to cry right now. #1 is only partly true. Yes, the church has grown but only because of people I invited except for one person. #2 The congregation is extremely small yet there's a lot of jealousy and accusation. #3 He doesn't steal money but he's afraid to ask for it. Most of the money comes from him personally. He does the offering for about 30 seconds like he's ashamed to request donations.

    • @scottevans2685

Inre #1, too many churches are obsessed with numbers. This is because they are organized like a business, where the contents of the collection plate by necessity supersede the contents of the Bible in importance and priority. Numbers occupying the pews should NEVER be used a measure of church health. Some of the smallest congregations, those that are little more than a few families meeting in someone's home, are some of the most spiritually healthy churches alive. Many megachurches, on the other hand, are full of world-loving frauds just going through the motions, their "pastors" talking and behaving more like corporate CEOs than spiritual leaders of a flock.
As far as #2 goes, there will always be SOME degree of internal conflict within any group of humans. However, what should set Christians apart is the ability of their faith and love for one another to minimize differences and set them aside. I will assert that the majority of conflicts that plague today's churches are due to the fact that most of them are not true New Testament churches at all, but lukewarm "Jesus Fan Clubs," random gatherings of strangers who meet once a week to be entertained by (generally low quality modern praise) music and a speech by a charismatic (referring to personality, not worship style) club president whose speech may or may not be based on Scripture, but is generally devoid of spiritual nutrition. Except for the club president's (a.k.a. "pastor") inner circle of yes men (and, disturbingly and increasingly, yes women), no one has any real connection to anyone else, and thus the constant tempest of conflict and resentment.
Number 3 is simply inevitable in any "church" that operates like a business rather than a New Testament family of believers. Pastors today, as has been pointed out in other responses here, are now little more than paid hirelings, mercenaries rather than those following a calling. Like everyone who does something for pay, they feel entitled to more than they're receiving and will go to any lengths to get it. Some are much worse than others in this regard, but ALL have an unhealthy preoccupation with mammon. With exceptions too few to name, the majority of pastors in my experience who truly exhibit integrity in this regard are lay pastors who have "9 to 5s" and don't rely on their congregations for their daily bread. It sounds like your pastor is one of these. Any offerings or donations they collect from their congregations go directly to missions or needs of the congregation, not their own pockets. In the case of your pastor, I wouldn't be too hard on him. He's actually doing the right thing by not over-relying on the congregation for money. Too many pastors do this as a form grift.

I think each individual should determine for himself when to give and how much. And I don't believe an offering plate should be passed around. That is a totally unbiblical practice. Giving is supposed to be in secret. The bible even tells us not to let our left hand know what the right hand is doing when we give, but for some reason, churches make a big show of it. It is divisive and competitive and manipulative and not proper behavior among God's people.

What if the pastor owns the church building, could that be a sign? So when the people in the congregation put money in the collection tray, they are all losing wealth. When the pastor puts money in the tray, he's just transferring money from one of his bank accounts to another of his accounts, but outwardly it looks like he's donating money like everyone else. 🤔

First Apostles then Prophets then Evangelists then Pastor / teachers to equip people to do good works. Check what Paul says to the Ephesian elders in Acts for a précis of true Apostolic leadership Acts 20:28-38 this is what we need. 😉

The sad fact of the matter is that there are many people who take a Pastor or an Elders word for what the Bible says and do not want to be questioned on certain valid topics brought up. I had a Pastor who encouraged we parishioners to question things and he would politely give us sound scripture to back up what he was preaching from the pulpit. A good pastor/elder will do that.
