Heavy=intellectually, spiritually, creatively deep
Yeah - we used to say: "Man - that's HEAVY!!!"
Only the Beatles could make a hit song with just 15 words in it.
sometimes less is more.
Greatest love song ever written. He is MAD about her. The music simulates madness. He is insane for her love.
Every Beatles song invented a new genre. They were SO far ahead of their time.
Precisely, my good man!
💙Any day is a good day when you hear The Beatles!
Heavy means deep … awesome …mind blowing …..
That white noise is coming from a brand new Moog synthesizer. George bought the first one in England and it was used for this first time on this album. The opening to Here Comes the Sun uses it.
Always innovating, right up to the final recent release, Now And Then.
Dude, this song here with headphones on hits different. Especially turned up all the way🤘❤️i kind of wish the ending goes on forever. I picture my coffin being carried out the church with this playing
Before it even played, I'm hearing it in my head. Its been sooo long since I heard this great song. I love it!!❤❤❤
Just for the historical record, Abbey Road was named after the studio where the album, and nearly all of the Beatles' recordings were made. The studio was actually named EMI Studios but was called Abbey Road because it was on Abbey Road. That's Abbey Road the Beatles are walking across. Because the album was so popular, they renamed the studio Abbey Road Studios.
The brilliance of the white noise is not to be underestimated.
I bought this when it was first released and I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone calling this background swirling “white noise” because that’s about cancelling other sounds. But maybe there’s a back story I don’t know.
I always knew it was a synthesizer but always thought of it as mimicking a swirling storm …
@@dcg4mn I believe it came from John's amplifier.
@@user-ll2yj3hy4c as in feedback? I don’t know enough about manipulating amps 😉 but it certainly imparted some mystery and drama 🤘🏽
@@user-ll2yj3hy4cThe white noise was produced by a Moog synthesizer operated by Lennon.
There is 15 words in this whole song. Unbelievable.
I absolutely love that ending. It's a brilliant ending to a brilliant song.
It's like they have a chance to be in this trance-like dream as they repeat those chords over and over, with everybody doing more and more fills and going nuts, and then it's like there's this rising wind that takes forever to arrive, but it's relentless and then it's like it's combined with an insect storm, and like sand blowing through the desert, it nearly obscures the music and becomes the main focus and it's just so cool. It's so atmospheric and it's so cinematic.
And then as the wind storm reaches the crescendo, the listener is nearly hypnotized by now, and it abruptly cuts off and leaves you hanging. It's such a mind-fuck and it's wonderful ear candy.
It ends like that because John made the engineer physically CUT the tape in that spot. That was a synthesizer making that sound.
John sings lead; Paul and George sing on harmonies. Paul is on bass, as usual.
John also plays lead guitar
Masterwork. Yes, all the instrumentation is excellent. I like Billy Preston playing the organ. His role is small in this song, but he's there.
Love that you chose this song, so under appreciated.
My #1 Beatles song after a lifetime of listening.
This album and Dark Side are the two greatest masterpieces ever put on vinyl, imo. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window is another banger on this album and your boy, Joe Cocker, does an incredible cover of it also!! Since it's kind of a short song.....maybe do a twofor??? Epic!
don't forget Physical Graffiti
And Led Zeppelin IV.
Agreed!
John wrote and sang lead on this.
Just after the 6 minute mark, John briefly sounds a lot like George.
"Heavy" -do you know what that means in this context? I can't believe it's already out of fashion. It means "deep", as in a "deep" person-someone who rocks your world etc...
I think it's been out of fashion for quite a few decades now. At least I've not heard it.
@@chrisjamieson3452i dunno. I'm 30 and I'm familiar with it.
Someone says something profound and youre like "woah thats heavy bro"
@@baronroaster404 A definition that would both precede and outlast this particular era 60's early 70's). As I recall it was used as a catchall type word. Could be deep, but also hip, cool righteous.
In short, it means cool
In my estimation , it can be multi interpreted , but for me it always had the connotation of the feeling that ( Heavy ) was as stated above as Deep or something that was complex but could be understood or as something to ponder mentally . IE deep in thought or content. Beyond the scope of just casual or simple thinking. In reference to Phila above, I never felt it carried a romantic or physical attraction to a person. More of a mystery.
I love that you give us a few minutes of research. Makes you stand out for me!
(Not to diminish your thoughts and insights, which are great to hear too)
55 years old and is still better than anything out today!
Since you loved this, you MUST check out Yer Blues!!
This is the fourth time he's been guessing whether it's John or Paul on vocals, always going for Paul, when it was John every single time🤣 A new strategy may be considered for future Beatles reactions👍
*John also did the guitar solo on this one
It always blows my mind when one of these reactors can't tell the difference between John and Paul even after they've heard them both sing a few times. To me, they're so easily distinguished from each other.
McCartney on bass
Lennon on rhythm
George on lead
Ringo
These boys could tackle ANY genre and master it.
Special doesn’t begin to describe them.
John actually played lead on this track. I was shocked when I learned that.
You Sir,are correct.
My bad as you yanks say.@@mikecavaretta2621
Can't forget Billy Preston on keys!
Static sound was a Moog synthesizer.
Nope, that's really the end. Then you flip over the album and get the opening line of Here Comes the Sun, which is a stark contrast. Listening to the digital copy, with no album flip, the transition comes instantly and it feels really weird and cool. The two songs couldn't be more different.
Marty McFly used the word "heavy" a lot in the Back To The Future movies.
Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!
Pure rock and roll Baby!
Now I know where the writer of The Sopranos got the idea to end their show that way 😊
The ending simply takes one on their journey.
👍👍Old school goodness! 🖖❤
Yeah, the song intentionally ends abruptly. They were so innovative for the time and they were brilliant.
This song has one of the most ULTRA-COOL VIBES, in my opinion....JUST....SO....GOOD!!! ENJOY!!!
"it's a vibe" - indeed, and a brilliant one
Lennon sang the lead vocals and used a Moog Synthesiser/white noise generator to create what I always thought was a like a jet plane taking off, and have always loved that and the way it ends abruptly. John said the song was about his deep love and reliance on Yoko, who was so heavy in the sense she gave him such a strong support when he was going through scary shit..
Back in the day, this was the track you played after you dropped acid. Took on a whole life of its own. 😂🤣
My fav song of all their stuff!
But all so The End!
Great reaction.keep digging .luv it..
they say the same thing over and over but every verse says something different. That's the beauty of this song. After playing word games in I am the walrus he decided to do the exact opposite here. True art.
😊 Ringo was amazing
Paul is playing bass and harmonies while John sings lead George on lead guitar and of course Ringo on drums!
Handsome, happy boy ❤
Back in the 60s, if something was deep, it was called "heavy." You have a deep conversation with someone about something important, or you find out that your friend lost his job...it was "heavy, man.' It is John singing lead. Also, you have to be amazed because here the Beatles are singing and playing beautifully on a song John wrote as praise for Yoko....and they, very understandably, were not very happy about her or her self-insertion into the group and their studio time
We still said that growing up in the eighties during the teenage years❤
"I could listen to just the instruments" You gonna get that dw xD
The tape ran out. But Lennon had the engineer stop it abruptly. It's just a coincidence that the last song on the other side of the album runs out and stop abruptly too.
On this song Heavy = Phat. Also this song is Lennon ALL the way, he's talking about his obsession w Yoko. Nice to see your reactions. White Noise abrupt ending blew everyone's mind upon first hearing in 1969.
You have a nice commentary….thanks man.
Ahead of their time ❤❤❤❤
The music style, is all John.
This whole album is a masterpiece... just when you play side 2 you must let it play in order and at 1 time... you wont regret it.
Something sad or bad Was heavy, man Back in the day... But it could also mean A great relationship
First heavy metal song
I thought it was Helter Skelter?
Second!
No, Helter Skelter was
@@garyfletcher844 heavy is literally in the title
Led Zeppelin were already formed and playing Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown live to the public BEFORE this or Helter Skelter were recorded.
Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones played on Becks Bolero TWO AND A HALF YEARS before.
More beatles pls
Paul's bass is amazing .John is singing
A Boulder dropped in the ocean is heavy.
End side one. Get up and turn the record over. Side two starts with a beautiful song.
I loved this and your reaction! When will you get around to John Lennons ...Mind Games (official video)??? Come on! Hurry up lol I can't wait any longer lol💕✌️
1st ✌️
Top five Beatles
Song for me !!!
Hey Bulldog by them next.
Paul’s bass will blow your mind.
Definitely!
If you're wondering about long Beatles tracks, the entire side 2 of Abbey Road is one song blending into another
No, It's John singing
You said you could just listen to the song instrumentally, and they gave it to you.
the abrupt ending doesn't go into the next song after. that's how the first side of the record ends. that's John finding new ways to mess with you (the listener)
John wrote and sings the song
I think Wes Montgomery inspired the guitar work on this; and he was inspired by the Beatles to do an album of covers. Yep, EVERY genre in western music can be found in their canon, and Eastern classical as well.
They were using a Moog synthesizer to make the ‘white noise’ cacophony you’re hearing. John is singing about Yoko, his new wife. The organ was played by the amazing Billy Preston, some call the 5th Beatle!
Check out "Tomorrow Never Knows" on their Revolver album (last track)
it is actually Paul on bass, not john
Get Back final performance please. But i do love this song❤
Try Yer Blues
Its a Moog in the back
Early 60s 2 min. songs were written to be on AM radio, late 60s FM radio would play longer songs. Cheech and Chong did a comedy album Big Bambu that had a skit about FM DJs.
❤️🇮🇹🤘
More beatles plss
This song ended like the last episode of the Sopranos 😎👍
This shits evil 🤘
John Lennon wrote it, sings and plays lead guitar on this track. Heavy indeed. There's actually more to this song. Lennon told the engineer to just randomly cut it. That's why it ends suddenly.
They should have faded out instead
@@garyfletcher844no, the cut is perfect!
I don't know if it's coincidental but this song has elements that remind me of what Miles Davis was doing at around the same time with Fusion Jazz, as in Bitches' Brew. And while not having what sounds like a funk bass line, it also has a funk-like feel to it. But in keeping with its name, it's certainly heavy, about as heavy as rock sounds got at the time. Gotta wonder how much Pink Floyd was influenced by it as they were already doing heavier tracks like Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun and Careful With That Axe, Eugene, but I can see how albums like Dark Side and The Wall might have been influenced by it, even Meddle.
Riding the craash
Love the reaction, however there was a weird wind sound coming thru like your mic was near a large fan
the end of 'she's so heavy' is doom metal before it had a name
Slang from the 60's. Abbey Road is also the recording studio.
You should listen to "Isnt it a Pity " long version from George Harrison, it just over 7 minutes, and it has the same kind of long outro as this one
Back in the late 60s early 70s heavy didn’t mean Weight men the closest I can think of today is like cool
It's John singing
It's johm singing lead vocal
Billy Preston the 5th Beatle And black ....Check out Eddie Murphy's Saturday night live skit as the 5th Beatle
I can't believe you still aren't using earbuds😮
This is one example of John placing more importance on the instrumentation than the lyrics. It was usually the other way around.
that incredible voice could only be John Lennon.
Harmony
Paul McCartney on bass left handed
I believe there was a suggestion the track should fade to white-noise but John was dead against the idea of a Beatles song turning into "noise".... Personally I think that was a mistake but... still in my top 5 Beatles tracks❤
It was Paul that was against the song ending in noise, as it was John chose the perfect point to cut it. It is a masterpeice.
I've always thought helter-skelter was 1 of the 1st hard rock precursor to heavy metal songs in the 50s Think about that Have you heard that guitar? Or the song even? Next must play!
Led Zeppelin were doing their thing before, as were other bands.
The Beatles didn't invent sliced bead either.
@@lyndoncmp5751 1967 dude... Know your history and yes those bands were influenced from the Beatles...Did zeppelin come out before 1964 I doubt it
@@terryconnelly484
Jimmy Page was in the studio before 1964.
Know YOUR history.
@@lyndoncmp5751 Listening to rock and roll and other genres For 55 years... You're talking about jimmy page I know he was with the Yardbirds 1 of the most eclectic bands with multiple superhero guitarists. The Yardbirds were in awe of the Beatles . Harrison and Clapton were friends and then Clapton Slept with his wife while George's guitar gently weeps. You have missed the point my friend.. You better know who you're talking to ....I know The history I don't need to google it I grew up with it
This song is even an antecedent to doom metal.
Just ends like that.
Maybe George Martin, the producer?
