I got ripped off a by a guy who sold me a clodbuster! He told me that he built it from a new in box kit but it's obviously not what he claimed it to be!
That's funny you say that about the motor end bells being white because in the original commercial for clod buster back in a 87 those end bells were black ????🤔
Good call. You’re absolutely correct I checked out that commercial and sure enough the motors had black end bells. All the 87 kits I ever had came with white endbells.. I’m gonna pin you’re comment so you get the credit for noticing that 👍🏻
I figure it out I pulled out my original Mud blaster never builted still in it original form in the box it came in the box shows black end belts on the box's art the manual show black end belts but the motor in the kit.......... is a white end belt amazing why would Tamiya do that my Blackfoot ,monster beetle an my hornet all the same box art show black end belts but the kit comes with white ones

The real test on the chassis is not the minor ones because those changes from 87-89. But if you look at a normal clodbuster chassis there was no metal reinforcements plates in the bottom. If you hit the clodbuster hard enough it would break or fracture where the steering servo sits. The super clodbuster has the metal reinforcements as part of the kit. There is also the economy switch on the side that I have only seen in the original ones. Another way to see other than bow tie grill and tail gate is the hood scoop it’s much smaller than any ones issued on the super close and black edition. The chassis and parts also say made in Japan and 1987 on the body and chassis. True rims inside will also say tamiya clodbuster 1987. I do have an original one, now I did change the shocks to the gold cap Ones (still have the red ones), and I still have the original motors (mine are Black also) and mechanical speed controller and resister. It’s still a shelf queen but when I built it I added bearings, Kyosho 360 monster motors and twin Novak 610R receives. So is mine an original (no of you look at this second), but I can add the shocks back on and swap the electronics tray out with the throttle servo and mechanic speed controller. Now I had a futaba radio jr2 I think but the crystals broke. So it now has modern day spectrum receiver and radio. But the main axles from 1987 to even now are the same, the body is the same except stamped different and obvious grills etc. chassis is the big one.
I purchased also an odd version. It has no bow tie in the front grille and no Chevy logo on the tail gate. The original owner said it was that way he bought it here in Germany 88. I looked it all parts up, the chassis is original 87 without the invorment logo.
The metal end bell 540s were and are used by Tamiya and were used on the Clod. Some people even thought they got ripped off when they didn't see the Chevy bowtie on the front grill...Tamiya had a falling out with Chevrolet when they got greedy and wanted more royalties for the use of their logo. Tamiya said "screw you" and removed the Chevy from the grill...Your Clod is genuine....There are zero knock offs out there.
James West this was sold to me as an original 1987 clod the seller said he built it from a new in box kit but no original clod ever came with a chassis that has the recycling logo next to the battery compartment. It’s still a nice truck though
Great video man. The biggest problem with the original clodbuster is the frames crack where the arms go into them. Unless they do not run it more than likely they would have to replace the frame as well as the motors. I agree though they should have been straight forward and said they had to change parts or it is a super clod
So I checked mine and it has white end bells and no recycling logo so that makes me happy but I don’t understand what after market upgrade you’re talking about at 1:08
Thanks for the info its really appreciated. I have been lucky enough to land an early clodbuster here in Canada for litrally a few dollars . It is complete with the same body.as the Video, white ended bushed motors , red shocks and no recycling marks. It does not have gold nuts and bolts any where so were they offered by the factory in silver at some time maybe later in the first run . Battery is dead but t have flashed the moters and they both run . I had no idea that I was getting such a popular truck as I am in to boats but I am really happy to hear all the comments. I look forward to becoming a car nut in the near future .

Hi, I recently got into clodbusters again. I bought a super clod when they first came out. It has the smaller blower on it, from the 80's style clod, and it has no battery recycle on the chassis. So it must be an early version. Now I just bought an unbuilt, early clod kit version with the Chevy emblems from eBay. It has all the emblems, gold screws, no battery recycle mark, but the motors have the black ends. Interesting. But I didn't know this until I watched this video. Thanks, and you have an awesome collection.

The original super clods didn’t have the recycling logo but all of the re-release super clods did and the super clod kit came with both the small and large blower hat
Like you said, don't worry too much about whether its the original or not. It's still a Clodbuster. Yeah its bummer the seller wasn't truthful about the whole build., but maybe he couldn't find the original parts or maybe he broke'em. Whatever the the case, you still own a piece of rc history that can still be restored the way you want it to be. Isn't that what the hobby is all about anyways?
Thanks for this video. So I picked up a clodbuster at an estate sale for only 70 bucks. it is fully complete but I do not think they know what they had. It looks vintage, not the re-release, but I cannot tell if its a Super or a regular clod buster. If I was to contact you with pictures of the truck, would you be able to tell me? I want to upgrade the bearings in the transmission to ball bearings, but do not want to get the wrong ones.
Easiest way I think would be the metal plate under the steering servo. Super clods have it as reinforcement. Original clods don't have it as far as I know. Also, super clod has blue shocks, chrome wheels, blue axle bumpers, etc. Decals are totally different also.

Only original parts on mine are the gearbox housings. I was lucky enough in the late 90’s to get one of Frank’s(New Era Models)first tube chassis. Still have it and just updated the electronics to brand new stuff.

Now, I want to buy another super clod buster and recreate the 80’s style clod. I was gonna find an original and eBay does have some listed, but I can’t justify spending $400-$500 not including shipping for the older ones since it’s not in my budget. I just want the red color scheme like the shocks and everything else on the chassis. I was wondering if you know any place that sells just the Clod Buster red F parts? The red parts trees pop up on ebay from time to time but you have to watch out a lot of people try to pass off the super clodbuster black edition parts as originals but they're a little brighter red . White wheels are starting to get very hard to come by, painting them is definitely the way to go especially if you plan on running it

I bought a Clodbuster recently and found out it's most likely a 1987 one, body has all the Chevy logo's except the grill, even the black stripe on the sides of the bed says Chevolet. It has some upgrades like a ESC and black endbells, oilfilled shocks, and for some reason it has Bullhead yellow arms and bumpers. I'm going to rebuild it and upgrade it a little, the body is trashed but seems a solid base.
I have an original Clodbuster, I bought it new way back in the 80's. I have added aftermarket stuff throughout the years, never painted it like the box or used decals. But it is an original. So you can't say it's a fake based on this. Maybe chassis was cracked and replaced. The only white parts on mine were the wheels. So just saying. 87 was a long time ago parts wear parts get replaced

I do have an original clod buster my father built it and after he built it he got better shocks that are gold and these were a hard plastic easily can crack so he got those plates to reinforce the chassis,thanks for the other stuff though I had to get a new chassis for it and very thankful it was from an original per your video there is no battery symbol on the side wish I could show you a picture of it love the clod buster and will probably get a super clod and see the difference I also have the rare kyosho USA-1truck thanks for the video

I would say fair,It is still white (unpainted) but things like the flood lights on the back are off. I am pretty sure if I put a new battery in it will run perfectly though.

Thank you for all the information helped me just buy a 1987 version i do believe it is all original based off your information. Chassis no recycle gold screw head Chevrolet badge grill and on the tailgate. Told me he repainted the body it was blue he made it red. I missed the super gripper on the roof and both Monroe stickers on the rear quarters. The end bells are black put since the promotional video shows them black i am ok with this. I have been looking for one for a while the 1987 Clod Buster was the first RC my wife bought for me . Had it stored away in my attic had a house fire lost the Clod and a Blackfoot. Would love to fine a OEM body and chassis and speed controller. Want to use my Clod Buster but remember how frail the chassis is. Want a back up. Of all the RUclips video on Tamiya not only are you very passionate about them but you are not afraid to change them. Besides eBay any thoughts on where i could look for such items. I have been checking out all your videos cant wait to see more progress on your monster truck. Might be a race to see if you or Kevin Talbot finish first lol.

Congratulations on the clod project. eBay is pretty much the best place to find parts I have a lot of used original parts but all of the new body sets I have are non Chevy (1989 and later) but if you need any parts just let me know. Monster truck should be running soon I just got a bunch more parts in today, hopefully Kevin gets his going soon too and we could run together someday. I have not gone over the clod fully but two things are the speed is not correct super slow and the motor switch does not work correctly if i hold truck in the air all four tires move but if i move the power switch nothing happens at all hopefully he did not plug a lipo battery into the truck the guy I bought it from

The clodbuster is a very special RC model to me, I know that it is easily outperformed by many newer and cheaper vehicles these days but the clodbuster and it’s sister truck the Bullhead have that something special to me. I love them!!!

I remember seeing one in the hobby shop window back in the day and wanted one so bad. I had a mud blaster at the time so I sold that and saved up like mad until I eventually got one and I loved it. Words can’t describe how it felt to open that huge box for the first time and grabbing hold of those massive tyres, the tyres smell so good too!!! I’ve now got a super clodbuster and a rerelease bullhead, awesome trucks!!!

It must have been a late 87 when they started producing them without the chevy badging. That's pretty rare. Good score

But, the seller said it was built from a new vintage in box kit. The seller was just slime.

I’m not even on my original chassis as it cracked years ago.
I had the original and installed the chassis brace and axle arm braces . They were made by E.S.P.

I have been looking for one for a while the 1987 Clod Buster was the first RC my wife bought for me . Had it stored away in my attic had a house fire lost the Clod and a Blackfoot. Would love to fine a OEM body and chassis and speed controller. Want to use my Clod Buster but remember how frail the chassis is. Want a back up. Of all the RUclips video on Tamiya not only are you very passionate about them but you are not afraid to change them. Besides eBay any thoughts on where i could look for such items. I have been checking out all your videos cant wait to see more progress on your monster truck. Might be a race to see if you or Kevin Talbot finish first lol.

Congratulations on the clod project. eBay is pretty much the best place to find parts I have a lot of used original parts but all of the new body sets I have are non Chevy (1989 and later) but if you need any parts just let me know. Monster truck should be running soon I just got a bunch more parts in today, hopefully Kevin gets his going soon too and we could run together someday. Good luck on the build and keep me posted I like hearing about clod projects 👍🏻
@@clodbusted1776 thanks for the reply was watching your BigFoot RC truck video you gave me more ideas on them as well. I have not gone over the clod fully but two things are the speed is not correct super slow and the motor switch does not work correctly if i hold truck in the air all four tires move but if i move the power switch nothing happens at all hopefully he did not plug a lipo battery into the truck the guy I bought it from

And.....originals have gold colored screws, based on what I can see, these are silver.

I really want a clod buster but they are out of my price range. For a new clod kit I could get a 6s beast and that bugs me. Just my thought.

The clodbuster is a very special RC model to me, I know that it is easily outperformed by many newer and cheaper vehicles these days but the clodbuster and it’s sister truck the Bullhead have that something special to me. I love them!!!
Mr Doofa. Same here. I really want one. It was my hobby rc I seen when I was a kid. I couldn’t take my eyes off the truck when I first seen it. It was my brothers friend that had it. One day I will own one.
I remember seeing one in the hobby shop window back in the day and wanted one so bad. I had a mud blaster at the time so I sold that and saved up like mad until I eventually got one and I loved it. Words can’t describe how it felt to open that huge box for the first time and grabbing hold of those massive tyres, the tyres smell so good too!!! I’ve now got a super clodbuster and a rerelease bullhead, awesome trucks!!!

Is he an ebay seller? I mean it's still pretty tits and at the very least I would say it's worth about $275-325. I want to actually take the chrome plating off of super clodbuster wheels and paint them like the old ones.
