    Very nice, bison is so mouthwateringly delicious. I certainly agree that nowhere near enough restoration effort has been put into the American bison. If the FWS and the eco-nuts put as much effort and money into bison as they did with wolves, we'd have brucellosis free herds of bison roaming wide expanses again. Hunting opportunities would be far more plentiful for Americans to be able to enjoy this delicious and pure wild meat on their tables.

    • @CplSkiUSMC
      @CplSkiUSMC 8 лет назад +16

      No, the flavor is very close to beef but has its own very mild distinction. It is leaner than beef and thus healthier too, particularly when you consider that it is hormone and antibiotic free... 100% natural.

      @indiapale The enviro-nut politicians (who don't want hunting or ranching at all) want to blame the ranchers and hunters for the confinement of the bison, rather than finding a solution (for their political grand-standing); and on the other side, the money-grubbing politicians don't want to set up a program for ranchers to get assistance (that would come from trophy fees) to deal with BTB and Brucellosis that can be spread by the bison to domestic herds, because they want the taxpayer's dollar and license fees to go to their pet projects (which improves their chances of getting bribes... I mean, excessive campaign contributions). The problem, like with most things in this land today, is that the majority of the people in a position to do the right thing... don't want to, because they benefit from the way things are... same way it was when the bison were wiped out and the native nations were driven from their lands, despite having treaties with the US

      The government had policies to purposely slaughter the buffalo and starve native prairie tribes into starvation and force them into accepting treaty deals for their land. It wasnt just over hunting, but a deliberate and purposeful slaughter, promoted by government as a method of clearing the land for settlers/farmers/ranchers, as well as force hostile native tribes to submit.

    nice hunt, thanks for sharing. I love buffalo burgers and eat them when ever I spot it offered on a restaurant menu. Probably not from a wild herd like your bison. I have tagged many deer and a few cow elk in my younger years. Much better eating than store bought meat.It's a shame that anti hunters and anti gun people troll hunting videos and leave nonsense comments. Perhaps in their myopic views they are content eating cage raised chicken and livestock doped with growth hormones and fillers, yet they are disgusted and scream bloody murder when hunters ethically harvest game animals. Appears they are so miserable that they feel compelled to spread their worthless rhetoric onto others.

    Randy, you seem to also embody Fred Bear's view on hunting. Good on ya', bro.
    “I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and the sure knowledge that nature’s ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” -- Fred Bear

      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад +4

      Thanks for the kind comment. Fred Bear left some big footprints on the hunting landscape. When we seek our own food and the responsibility that comes with that, a huge dose of humility and appreciation for the animals follows. As a hunter, you know full well that feeling. Thanks for watching.

      It is a crazy behavior, but one that I am told has evolved over eons. Another behavior that is seemingly strange, but makes sense when I think about it, is the instinct of bison to stop and form a tight group when they sense danger. For eternity, that defense mechanism served them well, be the biggest, baddest, toughest dudes on the prairie. That defense mechanism was part of their demise when the market shooters showed up in the 1800's.

      Because they can be bad for the environment where I hunt they introduced a non native species of wolfs and the deer and elk populations went way down and the ranchers have lost a ton of cattle this year to wolfs alone so they can be cute but they can also cause a lot of harm if not controlled or introduced to non native areas

    "Mike Smith"
    Hunting is about CONSERVATION or "the wise use of resources." Having established hunting seasons, a limited number of tags and strict enforcement is what has brought bison and other species back from the brink. These tags are given by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks department to ensure that bison continue to flourish. Wildlife biologists determine the need to harvest a certain number (10 per year as stated in the video) of bison to allow the population to grow. And no, they did not leave that bison. Randy Newberg uses every bit of each animal he harvests. Watch more episodes of his show and you will learn a lot.

    Over the past year or so, I have been researching and watching videos on Hunting. To be honest, I had such an incorrect idea of what hunting really is (if there really can be such a thing) this video among some others really taught me that its more than just bagging an animal. It more than just the kill, its everything leading up to it, its about the hunt, its about the animal, its about observation and appreciation. There is anxiety and stress, the lucky and the unlucky.. great comradery and great food. Thanks for the lesson and I cant wait to start hunting.

      @DefinitelyNotDan You are actually completely wrong, especially in regard to the state of the bison. People in the 1800s in Montana would be shocked to see the abundant wildlife we have now. Read for yourself, on the FWP's website, fwp.mt.gov/enforcement/wardens/history/

    • @fedup3582
      @fedup3582 4 года назад +1

      Definitely not Dan, I can guess that you are a citified person that knows very little about actual life other than your tiny little place that you inhabit. You are probably one of those people that thinks food is made in a factory and then put in grocery stores. If you did actual objective research, you would find that it is because of hunters, controlled licensed hunting and then conservation practices mostly funded by hunters, that has resulted in the vast numbers of wildlife that exist today. People in the 1800's? They used the animals till there were very few left by 1900. People like teddy Roosevelt and others like him, including hunters are the ones who started the conservation efforts, that resulted in our current numbers of wildlife. It sure wasn't the city sprawl and urbanites that did it. And if you knew anything about management of animals, you would know the purpose of harvesting a percentage of the animals each year for the preservation and well being of the rest. Also, you don't seem to realize that humans are also part of nature, but modern society doesn't seem to understand that, sitting in their fancy apartments in their urban surroundings, oblivious to how real life is happening all around them.

  • @KCinSoCal
    @KCinSoCal 6 лет назад +1

    This video shares a truth so few Americans know, that it was hunters in the early 1900's that stepped up to save our wilderness. Without their efforts we may not have elk in lower 48 and many other species. Even today, the casual lover of animals harass and demean hunters while doing absolutely nothing to help nature. It is the ignorance of the impact hunters have upon wilderness and wildlife that really annoys me. It is the hunter, far more than the casual animal lover, that is the reason U.S. has the wild areas that it still has.

      We have a winner. For those doubting the fact, I suggest they buy the book, Last Stand. It is the conservation history of America and how hunters fought to save the last bison herds from poachers and exploiters. Link here - amzn.to/2q98mZF

    Coming from a long line of hunters this is what I was raised on! The part of an ethical hunt and taking an animal for food. Great job showing that Randy! The only thing that is sad is seeing the range of Bison before and after. I had no idea that they covered so much of North America including my home state of WI. I see both sides of the debate but I still stand on the side of the conservationists which I'm proud to call myself! Keep up the great work Randy!

    Enjoyed the vid ... thank you. Bison should be our national symbol, not that dang white headed, dandified vulture. As for free range, dang the cattle, let the bison roam!

      Most bison have some cattle genes in them, even some of the wild herds. All but one private bison herd have cattle genetics. Thanks for watching.

    Hey, have you ever thought about making a parody hunt episode, with "observers" yelling and "observing" and getting in the way?
    And one guy critiquing every aspect of your hunting? Could be really funny . . . .

    Randy, I enter into this draw every year, and hope to be able to pull a tag like you did. what were some of the challenges you faced with this specific hunt. Who did you look to for guidance / direction?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад +3

      Challenges are knowing young bulls from cows. Not hard, once you learn the difference. MT has a great orientation package. Other challenge is getting one out of a roadless area. That was no easy task.

    *I have a Remington .308 under the Christmas tree, I am going to Montana soon. Season and permits seem confusing. I am determined to get me a Buffalo at least once in my lifetime, bull or cow makes no difference. Meat, hide, bone, sinew, and maybe horns if I get a bull... all will be used! How is the fat? Like beef?*

    I am an avid hunter, and I have watched 80% of your videos, enjoy the content on both successful and unsuccessful hunts. However, I had mixed emotions about the Bison hunt. Honestly, I am not even sure why I have mixed emotions, especially since this is a management hunt no different than any other big game species, I imagine it's just the history involved.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад

      Hmm. Not sure what triggers that, but a few others have said the same. I think it might be that I did not explain the politics of bison as well as I could have and those politics are what keep these herds from expanding as we wish for all species. I also could have done a better job of explaining that bison do not run from danger, rather they have evolved to turn and face danger, a strategy that worked good for danger with teeth, claws, and spears; not such a good response with the advent of the centerfire rifle. Not much we can do to change their behavior. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    • @Fresh_Tracks

      Over 400# of processed meat, not counting the heart, tongue, and tenderloins we took home directly, without giving to the processor.

    damn cattle ranchers think they own the public land that they run cattle on. On the Henry mountains here in Utah, they only allow herd to reach 300 animals. meanwhile there's 20,000 cows running over those mountains. its BS

    I always liked Rush Limbaugh's opinion on endangered species or how to go about bringing back a species and making it thrive again. He said, "If you want to save a species and make it thrive, find a way to make money from it." Because when you do that everyone wants there to be more of them so they can make more money". Simple right? If those "observers" want to make sure the bison are saved and see them prosper and spread across the range they use to then don't aggravate hunters that have paid lots of money to come and hunt the few tags that are given. The money raised from hunting in fees, license dues, and taxes far out raise money that is donated. When I get to go hunt an animal I want to see lots of them, not just a few. I will do a lot to make sure of that, like planting food plots, putting out mineral licks, making sure they have clean water, and even killing predators that have gotten out of control. All of these things cost money and that money in my state is taxed because of the products I purchase for hunting. Mississippi is almost overrun with wild game because of the money raised thru taxes to oversee the protection and conservation of these animals.
