They are not nice enough (particularly the interior) for the average consumer in the market for a $70k vehicle, those folks (mall crawling moms/bougie dads) are buying the Lexus GX for more or less the same price. The 1958 on the interior is a $30k car, it’s just cheap looking/feeling.
1st - Happy New Year...keep producing content as I enjoy your perspective. With regards to LC...they got the body styling right minus the bumpers and that ugly hitch cover...feature set is ok BUT should have put a 6cyl engine in it or at least offered the option to consumers. Value vs price is not there...that's why people aren't spending their money on this level... IMO Toyota needs to bring back a NA V6 and a NA V8 as options in their lineup...right now too many of their vehicles share the same same powertrain..makes it difficult to see the value between models and justify the price delta. There is too much compression...either change the variants to distinguish them better or drop some models from the line up.
I don't want a 4 cylinder pulling a 6,000+ GVWR vehicle- no thanks. The mileage is trash and the repairs will be absurd- there's ZERO customer benefit to taking this over an NA V8 or even TT V6. The only reason this didn't get the TTV6 was to differentiate from the GX550.
Deals on 1958's vs no deals on the LC trim makes the difference closer yo $10k. Slightly discounted 1958 also looks like a better deal when comparing with very expensive new 4Runners.
I said it on your other video, check to see if you switched to ethanol winter gas. Parts of Utah do require it. My MPG drops every winter and I have a small displacement turbo vehicle.

Nice video. Inn the market this spring 2025 for new wheels. I cannot decide if I should go with a LC, GX Overtrails, X5 or even RX 350. Different all around I know.
Only thing wrong with the 1958 is the price. Otherwise I love it, less is more. When the 4Runner hits the lots these base Land Cruisers will be heavily discounted.
I get it when you say the landcruiser is not a design a fast car due to it’s boxy shape but i heard you complaining about the telluride by not having a twin turbo 6 cylinder engine 😊
Turbo 4s are popping up in all kinds of vehicles to satisfy government regulations. I suppose that saving gas is more important than performance to some people. Nice review and Happy New Year.
Toyota mess up the hole lineup. Is going to pay for it. Toyota fam boy here, i would not touch any of this new power train. Bring back the V6, and lower the price is a Toyota not a Porche.
I test drove both the new Land Cruiser and Lexus GX550. The engines are not good, actually horrible. Acceleration is very poor and in-cabin noise levels much higher compared to previous versions of the GX and Land Cruiser. Of course the previous Land Cruisers were a larger, more expensive vehicle, paired with an indestructible legendary V8. The interior and ride quality of the previous GX 460, and initially the GX 470 were far superior. But for me, perhaps the most disappointing aspect of these new vehicles are their interior, they are neither luxurious or rugged, looking like every other Toyota/Lexus interior, generic, non-description plastic all over the place. The interior of the Ineos Grenadier is 1000% nicer, more rugged.
So, you’re saying Toyota is abandoning its base, risking all of its reliability not to mention pissing off even more all just for “adequate” horsepower and fuel mileage? Seem’s like pretty stupid business decisions to me…
Disagree. Land Cruiser is a FLOP. The 1958 is trash and the other two models are overpriced and not worth it compared to Lexus or other models in the same class.

Love the LC, the priblem is the power plant. Never but it with that power plant
Deals on 1958's vs no deals on the LC trim makes the difference closer yo $10k.
Slightly discounted 1958 also looks like a better deal when comparing with very expensive new 4Runners.
No v6 no sale. 4x4 people don't want hybrids.
They're marking them down by around $4k in my area. When's the last time you saw discounts on Toyotas?
Hey Ben Hardy we saw a 2025 INEOS Grenadier Station Wagon
Was really sweet you should get one!!
The 1958 is not differentiated from the 4Runner. If they improve it as you say they would cannibslize the 4runner sales.
We got the luxury LC got in December still trying to figure out but i love it!!!
Powertrain is a flop, material seems cheap, but 4WD system is decent, pricing is a bit ridiculous. Looks pretty cool, though
Would you still get a Defender over this LC with the mrsp price range that Toyotas are jacking up now?
I said it on your other video, check to see if you switched to ethanol winter gas. Parts of Utah do require it. My MPG drops every winter and I have a small displacement turbo vehicle.
Compared with BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer & Others Midsize SUV
in 5 years which one will be worth more? retain the most value,
@@johnrose7212the one with a naturally aspirated V6
In Australia we never got the 1958 only the higher specs. Here only the 5 seaters are selling (Altitude) Everyone here hates the 7 seaters with the raised rear....so many demos for sale
$50K MSRP makes sense for 1958, for someone who wants $35K for a truck, you know camry now selling at $35K
1958 at minimum you need MTS and swaybar disconnect and 360 camera. You expect all the offroad goods if youre buying a landcruiser
I want a 70 series LC with a manual transmission, real bumpers, and as few electronics as possible!!!
I get it when you say the landcruiser is not a design a fast car due to it’s boxy shape but i heard you complaining about the telluride by not having a twin turbo 6 cylinder engine 😊
If it had a 6 cylinder maybe more people might buy it.
Turbo 4s are popping up in all kinds of vehicles to satisfy government regulations. I suppose that saving gas is more important than performance to some people. Nice review and Happy New Year.
The government is slowly killing the auto industry.
Toyota mess up the hole lineup. Is going to pay for it. Toyota fam boy here, i would not touch any of this new power train. Bring back the V6, and lower the price is a Toyota not a Porche.
100%
100%
In black it looks like my old Nissan Xterra. I loved that vehicle. Solid.
It seems like a good car but to be honest you can get a car with everything this car has but for $20K less
Too expensive!
No turbo!
Was the original Land Cruiser 4cylinder?
That is the cheapest $60,000 vehicle I’ve ever seen.
They should've put the new Tundra engine.
No, I love mine
needs price adjustment asap
So, you’re saying Toyota is abandoning its base, risking all of its reliability not to mention pissing off even more all just for “adequate” horsepower and fuel mileage? Seem’s like pretty stupid business decisions to me…
Did you say battery? There’s your issue.😂😂😂 now it’s garbage EV or hybrid. Way too much!! 38k max!
they sale quicker than any other Toyota
@@johnrose7212 they are not selling here lol 60 days on the lots and counting 🤣
@@johnrose7212 EV and hybrids are for the woke! I know you may not understand, but that’s what it is!
Disagree. Land Cruiser is a FLOP. The 1958 is trash and the other two models are overpriced and not worth it compared to Lexus or other models in the same class.
Wow that’s a lot plastic for nearly 60k
@@fire_breathing_hamster japanese plastic
I really wanted to like it, I saw one today at the Inernational Auto Show and was dissapointed.
My opinion. That should’ve been the new 4 runner. Come on top of the line should be V6 V8. Four-cylinder never.
For its price point I believe it is a flop. I don’t see any value in this suv for what I’m paying
Mid trim? Only 2 trims in 2025.
I wouldn't pay anything over $30 for that.
I get it awd but dam my 2.7L ecoboost gets 18 mpg with 37s!
I woulda bought one if it had all the same 4wd features as the upper trims.
If you are talking about the “Prado”, then yeah, I am calling it out as a flop.
For $60k we got a brand new SQ5 PP.
