The engine is a no, people shouldn’t accept a 4 cylinder in a flagship off road product when the V8 was right there. There is no reason that benefits the consumer for Toyota to have chosen this engine instead of the V6.
I own it. The 4 with the 5kw motor provides Instant torque when I need it most off road VS revving the engine to the middle of the power band. It's better than a V8 plus 22mpg.
also, the new 4runner will be competing against this. Why have both for?? At 70k for a new trd pro 4runner.....you might as well spend 72k for a new lexus GX overtrail!! V6 turbo.
I wish people would stop saying the gx550 is “so close” in price relative to the LC250. Yes, a fully loaded out Land Cruiser model or 2024 first edition puts you within a few thousand of a gx550…. There are powertrain and luxury features differences, but stating the fact that the 10-15k difference in price is negligible is somewhat obtuse. 10-15k in cash or on a loan for a car is where folks start looking closer…at the end of the day if you are saying the GX 550 overtrail plus loaded out is what you need to say you are driving a “real” Land Cruiser, you would still be wrong, need to jump only 10-15k more for an LX, the reality US Land Cruiser. Both are fun, neither side can say which is best as they are slightly different and for likely different consumers (not just socioeconomic).
Yup. So many people compare a fully loaded LC against mid to low end GX and complain about the value proposition. When you compare similarly equipped models, the difference is around 10k.
This would be true if you could order them yeah, but you can’t. My local Toyota puts their landcruisers more than Lexus charges for GXs. And they sell them all.
Awesome review, the editing was on point and it was a nice mix of a humor and an attractive presenter with very good points! I hope to see other car reviews one day!
Hi Janna. Happy New Year. I'm a big fan of vintage Landcruisers. I think the newer ones live off the old reputation. Appreciate the honest view. I do like the looks of the 2025.
Can I be honest about your seat-heating comment? There are probably 2 reasons that come to mind from personal experience that I feel fit with why you think the seat heaters aren’t hot enough: 1. You are very lean & don’t have a high % of body fat, making it more difficult for your body to thermo-regulate in colder temps. This happened to me slowly & as I got below 10% bf, I was literally ALWAYS cold, even in warmer weather. 2. Your clothes. For example, the grid fleece top you’re wearing (& I imagine similar cold weather leggings below) in the SUV is great at keeping body temp high & close to your skin, & preventing outside weather (or your seat heat) from getting into the core of your body, much less being able to touch your skin or into your fascia/muscles. Thus, it feels like it could be warmer. I totally get it though! 😅
Nicely done. Smooth delivery. Comprehensive assessment. Fun humorous approach. Just the right amount of YOU for a Janna fan. 😁 Definitely a winner. Keep doing these!👍🏿
Fun video presentation. You can hold the viewer's attention. I have just under 14,000 on my 58 (Bought last spring). While I like much about the LC, I do not like the lack of internal storage, the lack of a long flat cargo area (for sleeping), lack of heated outside mirrors (58), increased road noise, continual stone chips on the windscreen, almost complete safety sensor failure when driving on highways in snow or slush, miserable fuel tank range and useless stock tires. But I always wanted a LC, so I picked it up. I will probably sell it and move on when it hits 36K miles. I'd really love to have another Diesel SUV (previously owned JGC Overland Eco-diesel for 8 years), but other than Mercedes, I don't think anyone sells a diesel-powered SUV in the states any longer. But thank you for the fun, pleasant review.
I owned a 5th gen for 10 years. Moved to the LC recently love love love it. The lexus didn't have physical ac control buttons like the LC also the power generator in the back is slept on. The LC 4banger is way more powerful than my old 5th gen
You need to step up to Overtrail+ in the GX to have comparable features the Land Cruiser offers. Can get an LC these days around 65-68k, whereas the Overtrail+ is at best ~82k. Even the 1958 edition comes standard with some features not offered in base premium of Overtrail models on the GX.
Solid review. How tall are you? I'm concerned about owning a Land Cruiser in a big city and getting it into underground parking garages with height clearance challenges.
Toyota gives a stock vehicle height of up to 1935mm in their data. Without any modifications, any underground parking garace that allows for that height will work. As a european i don't know how the signs on the entrances in the US give the height values, but converting into colonial measurements that would be 76.18 inches or 6.35 ft or 6ft and 4.2 ".
In the African and Australian market, that's a Prado with Hilux engine. The OG land cruiser is the LC300,with a powerful 3.3 litre V6 diesel engine. And I used the powerful, in comparison it's predecessor which was V8 engine
To put that into perspective: In Europe the LC 300 was never avialble and so what you call Prado is *the* Land Cruiser as people know it here for decades. (We have one of those at work, it has no automatic AC, no parking sensors, no sat-nav, no cameras, no nothing. And it has a 6 speed manual gearbox.)
@nirfz no there's a Prado and Land Cruiser. Like in the American market what they call Land Cruiser Is actually a Prado, LC 300 isn't offered in America because there's a Lexus equivalent on offer. So for the African and Australian market we get both the Land Cruiser LC300 & the Prado under review in the video.
@@YamaOma_Kunda I understand that you get both. But like i said, We never got the big one, and what you calll Prado was sold as the Land Cruiser for decades now here. In Australia (where 90% of the testing was done) it’s the land cruse Prado 250. What is the little brother of the Land Cruiser 300. I was lucky enough to go to launch test drive at Toyota, highly capable vehicle, but has the ability to get people into a lot of trouble who don’t know how to get out of it.
I own the same exact model and color. I went in to buy a 4Runner TRD Pro but left with this beast. I hate the the mirrors because they need to be wider and not as tall. Yes the tires are not the right ones for this LC. Only time will tell if this will be a keeper for us. Does head turn for sure. 💯❌
Keep up on the car vids... As an avid Savagegeese and Hagerty follower you have a direct understated enthusiasm that comes across as honest... Damn good work!
@@JannaBreslin No one here bought them. I think they only sold 2,000 a year. The 250 Prado Series is perfect for the US. It's more "affordable" in an increasingly unaffordable market. You should review the Lexus GX550 next!
We test drove a new Camry XSE and its doors were just as tinny….amazing Toyota! You are blazing new trails with undependable, chintzy sounding throw away vehicles. We will keep our ‘22 Mazda CX-5 and I’ll hang on to my ‘18 Tundra until the wheels fall off.
It got stuck because it’s 1000lbs heavier than its gas powered twin the GX550. You can thank the Lithium Block your hauling around. You won’t see any GX550’s getting stuck.
Just purchased a 2024 LC, curious how you get the “split screen” Apple Car Play with the side bar still showing. Car Play in mine is always full screen without the side bar showing all the Toyota app icons…I have to go back to the apps list screen and select the Toyota app to see all the Toyota utilities. Curious if this is a 2025 vs 2024 thing even though the software is the same.
Congrats and nice review! I'm looking at the GX550 Overtrail which is not really much more that the LC but has Lexus features, comfort and the 3.4L V6 Twin-Turbo (349hp; 479lb/ft of torque). Really though, I am waiting on the hybridized version that's being promised; it might be another year for the US as Toyota/Lexus recently announce the LX700 with their V6 hybrid. Enjoy the ride.
I wonder if they use the same heat seat heat components as the 4runner? Same issue, you have to turn it off completely that turn it back on for 10-15 minutes of good heat before it cools off. Not consistent, but did not expect that problem with the new Land Cruiser.
@DaciaProject Yup!!! It's a 4runner for adults, if you know anything about the Light duty Land Cruiser, it's actually made on the same assembly line as the 4Runner and gx. Where as the Station wagon also known as the 200 or 300 is made on the same assembly line as the LX. But that's a station Wagon land cruiser where as this one is a light duty land cruiser, now the big boy is the 70 series because it's heavy duty!!! ALL ARE LAND CRUIERS. Anyone who says nu uh the station wagon is the real land cruiser are uneducated morons
I'll stick with my 93' ---76 series LC 5sp. Sure wish we could get the 70 series new in the States, but until then, I'll always be at least 25 years behind the times ;)
Hi Janna, Love your Videos this Land Cruiser is the water down version. The real one is the new 2025 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail or semi close would be the GX550 Overtrail.
I test drove one and ultimately decided to buy a 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage edition which has the legendary v8. In the test drive, it felt like a 4cyl sports car and sounded very weak. I did not feel torque. This was just not my cup of tea. I also did not want the GX because I am not a Lexus person. So, the v8 although not the best gas mileage, everything else is just so much better.
Yep and you paid $ 80,000.00 to $ 90,000.00 for a used vehicle with no warranty. By the time you add the warranty, some decent tires, and have it detailed because 90 percent of the heritage editions on the market where not well taken care of you are into it for close to $ 100,000.00. Yep, smart move ! But hey, you got your V-8. Total incompetence.
Agree with the Toyota seat heaters. My 22 RAV is just luke warm even on the highest setting. My friends 11 Civic has to stay on low as they get too warm on high. Same with Toyotas ventilated seat feature, just doesn’t get very cool. They need to fix these features.
Leather seats (or leather imitation material, doesn't make much difference in that regard) always feels colder in winter than cloth seats. And in summer they make you (at least me) sweat more. But there are vehicles that aren't optionable with cloth seats... As for the "grill your butt setting": I remember a guy i knew who had his seat heating (different manufacturer, very different car) burn through the seat material because of a defect. Not good, and quite "uncomfortable" according to him. ;-) 5:00 at the company i work, we have the previous model (what in some markets was called the LC Prado) and it's doors do not sound confidence inspiring either, but few car doors do today. It's not a G-wagon. Tyre choice: fuel economy and the probably 80-95% usecase are normal roads. And anywhere else in the world people don't try to use summer tyres in the snow, but get winter tyres for the winter. It's mainly a north american phenomenon that people think the stock tyre should be used all year round no matter if blazing heat or freezing snow and ice. You don't wear the same clothing in scorching heat and freezing wind either, so why use the same tyres... They are the only real connection between the vehicle and the ground, it makes sense to use correct tyres for your usecase anyways. And a manufacturer can't know your usecase. Engine noise: this vehicle is available with different engines arond the globe. Where i live you don'T get the 4cyl gasoline hybrid, you get a 2.8L 4cyl Diesel. In other markets you get the 2.4L Turbo gasoline without the hybrid, and they also have a 2.7L 4cyl NA without the hybrid for other markets. Maybe that 2.7L is what made the sound. (more displacement and no turbo muffling the sound more. But this 2.7 is the lowest power engine there is for this model Land Cruiser.)
Thanks for all the info. And yes, I agree that it's not up to Toyota to know the use case of the vehicle. However, you will see in my next review that they did put some thought into that on a different vehicle. If LC is being billed as just as capable as the 4 Runner, which definitely comes with better all terrain stock tires, then I would have expected the same on the LC. It's like they are really trying to turn it into a soccer mom vehicle. Which is why I'm going to make this thing an off-road beast. Stay tuned as I will be showcasing all I do to this thing to give it a fighting chance against the older LC's.
only thing I dont like about my 2025 LC is the small gas tank. Coming from a 2019 Ram 1500 limited, it's like half the size I'm used to. Everything else I like, or at least don't Not like. The settings to find stuff to adjust - still can't figure out how to unlock all doors when touching the handle... Problem is it's an almost $80,000 vehicle OTD. The Yokohama tires aren't that bad, but if you're doing much off road you're probably going to put the tires you have experience with on it anyway. The doors have been commented on since 2024 release and is really a lame complaint, but to each her own. I wish the headlights followed steering. I got used to that on my Ram, it was slick. Storage space is extremely limited in the LC. Just places to put small things like my sunglasses...no sunglasses spot. They are in my cupholder which is less than ideal. The engine is super punchy, coming from the V8 Ram, I really have no complaints about the engine. I like it. I also think this is a super lame complaint, often given with no explanation as to why the engine in the 24/25 LC is not going to work for them. Other than "V8 go vroom vroom gooder" - I dont see the problem.
This is absolutely a big concern. One other issue that I have noticed is the advertised MPG is way off. I'm averaging 18.5 mpg on highway in eco mode vs the 21 Toyota claims.
It is a weak proposal from Toyota. A missed opportunity from Toyota to create a amazing off road do it all vehicle in my opinion. Better values surround this suv. Time will tell
Solid review. I've been a Toyota fan for a while now - my wife has a Highlander and I've got Lexus GX470 (AKA Land Cruiser Prado in the rear of the world). Here's my problem, though, and the reason I will NEVER even test drive this vehicle: all the "luxury". That truck could be about $30K less expensive if it didn't have all the B.S. "luxury". I want a bare bones roll down windows and manual door locks that can take me into the desert and being me back. Toyota can do this - I lived in Africa for a year, and they do sell bare bones highly capable vehicles there. But I guess why do that in America when idiots here will pay over a year's salary for crap they don't need. Still, thank you for the review - I really was curious about this new Land Cruiser.
Please check your text messages to get rid of the notifications 😮 The door doesn’t sound weak to me. But otherwise good review and great production values.
Are people that dumb? Do they think cars have actual DNA ? Calling a current vehicle a Land Cruiser doesn’t make it the old Land Cruiser. This is a totally different powertrain.
This was a really good video. I’m going to be in the market this Spring 2025 and doing some research now on cars. This has been one on radar. Overall I like the look of the car. I do question the price tag. What I am also questioning, why would someone buy this over an X5? X5 will give you a much stronger engine, AWD, luxury and good gas mileage. Long term reliability is questionable here (as is the X5 I know). Depreciation costs also I question here and I also know the X5 is deplorable in terms of that. The GX Overtrail is very nice but gas mileage as well is not very good. This is hard. Thanks for the video, Subscribed.
@ that’s incorrect. Currently I have a Ram 1500 that retails for $78k and a new loaded Jeep Rubicon that retails for $71k. But I’ve owned Toyotas and my partner she has one. Toyota doesn’t make a car worth $70k and there are a lot of nice cars that can be had for that or less
@ Actually I think you meant to say that POS RAM does not make a vehicle worth $ 70,000.00. Quality and Reliability with Stellantis is horrendous that’s why they have overtaken FORD in recalls in 2024 with 80 recalls, which is very hard to do. That’s correct, I would never spend $ 70,000.00 for Healy built stellantis product.
@@RCFTE Toyota has recalls out for the engine of 22/23 Tundras and all Corollas …. The Ram has been pretty good actually. I don’t think you are able to separate your personal bias from facts and general ownership of vehicles. Be well
Turbo diesel or 5.7 V8! Peel the iPad off the dash and mount Stewart Warners.. Those Lego caps on the front corners seems rushed and more than awkward.. Thanks Janna!
A v4? a noisy v4 on the highway speeds instead of the v8 purring? Manufacturer says better gas mileage... yeah that's fine so keep that in the Rav4; There are many customers who are actually gas mileage conscious & have such cars, but still prefer that one of their cars be the v8 engine, overlooking the gas mileage issue. Toyota LC with a v4 is a slap in the face.
Ha. My parents had a Range Rover growing up and the only time I saw it was when the tow truck drivers would come pick it up and take it to the shop. Most unreliable and overpriced vehicles.
Normally cant go wrong with a Toyota. I have a 2010 tundra with 326k mi on it. No problems. They should've kept the 5.7L and put that in the land cruiser. As far as the tires go, I'd say most of their customers are soccer moms picking the kids up from school and going to the grocery store. Not Smokin Hot Babes getting the f@ck outside and putting it to the test. Great review. Happy New Year!!
honestly what goes into this car for $71,000? it's worth max 40... it's a good car, I like it... but for that much money... it's sad, who pays so much for this car? then it's a mercedes gle, instead, a car that can be driven dynamically ... as soon as it's a suv.
what an iconic PoS now they made with this awfully crying 4cyl. Without a big V6 or V8 its a NoGo !! Mazda did it right with their new inline 6cyl. Diesel with 3.3ltr and 254hp in the CX-line

@@JannaBreslin No one here bought them. I think they only sold 2,000 a year. The 250 Prado Series is perfect for the US. It's more "affordable" in an increasingly unaffordable market. You should review the Lexus GX550 next!
True. This is Prado! I don't why they call it Land Cruiser in US?
Hi Janna, I can't find your Tundra 2025 review. Can you help me with it please.
Also do you plan to make one for the 2025 4RUNNER?
Thanks,
Bruno. 😊
Beautiful Japan car ❤❤❤
Hi Janna, what are your thoughts on the short rear door bottom length? It looks like ingress egress would be difficult.
I've been a fan of your journey for a long time, Janna. You're a warrior in your very own right. Great review on the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
You’re so kind! Thanks for watching!
@@JannaBreslin No problem.
It got stuck because it’s 1000lbs heavier than its gas powered twin the GX550. You can thank the Lithium Block your hauling around. You won’t see any GX550’s getting stuck.
SUCH A NICE VEHICLE
Just purchased a 2024 LC, curious how you get the “split screen” Apple Car Play with the side bar still showing. Car Play in mine is always full screen without the side bar showing all the Toyota app icons…I have to go back to the apps list screen and select the Toyota app to see all the Toyota utilities. Curious if this is a 2025 vs 2024 thing even though the software is the same.
Definitely saw 2025 LC in the dealership for 57k.
That 71k must be for the top trim fully loaded
Congrats and nice review! I'm looking at the GX550 Overtrail which is not really much more that the LC but has Lexus features, comfort and the 3.4L V6 Twin-Turbo (349hp; 479lb/ft of torque).
Really though, I am waiting on the hybridized version that's being promised; it might be another year for the US as Toyota/Lexus recently announce the LX700 with their V6 hybrid. Enjoy the ride.
4 turbo is a letdown
I bet the the perforated areas on the seats aren’t leather but PVC 🤔
I wonder if they use the same heat seat heat components as the 4runner? Same issue, you have to turn it off completely that turn it back on for 10-15 minutes of good heat before it cools off. Not consistent, but did not expect that problem with the new Land Cruiser.
Love my LC 250.
It's a 4Runner.
@DaciaProject its a Land Cruiser 250 a light duty land cruiser. Way better looking than the 300 series Station Wagon Land Cruiser.
So for people who could only dream of affording a Land Rover-bronco. I’ll take it
I'll stick with my 93' ---76 series LC 5sp. Sure wish we could get the 70 series new in the States, but until then, I'll always be at least 25 years behind the times ;)
You can now import a 2000 LC 105 series (100 series on a 80 series chassis!)
@@DaciaProject Gotta be a manual, will look into it! Cheers!
Hi Janna, Love your Videos this Land Cruiser is the water down version. The real one is the new 2025 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail or semi close would be the GX550 Overtrail.
SUV ist der richtige Ausdruck
This is a Prado that’s why, the real Land Cruiser is the 300 series which we get in Australia..
I’ll keep my 07 FJ, I got it cheap and it’s built like a tank.
You could have mention the 1958 edition Land Cruiser !! They start around 57000 if I ain’t mistaken!! Good review
@@RCFTE I suggest you stop making #ASSumptions, making things up and mind your own business.
truth hurts.@@josephah2000
Janna! I loved your sense of humor, “I need a 4th option where I want butt on fire” god bless you, and really good review.
Wonderful car❤
Spot on with your opening remarks….
Good review. I spent less money on a preowned LX570 (with my wheel and tire mods) and it will last way longer than this LC250.
Nice honest review
Agree with the Toyota seat heaters. My 22 RAV is just luke warm even on the highest setting. My friends 11 Civic has to stay on low as they get too warm on high. Same with Toyotas ventilated seat feature, just doesn’t get very cool. They need to fix these features.
Jeep got their arses sued over too hot seats!😅
Leather seats (or leather imitation material, doesn't make much difference in that regard) always feels colder in winter than cloth seats.
And in summer they make you (at least me) sweat more. But there are vehicles that aren't optionable with cloth seats...
As for the "grill your butt setting": I remember a guy i knew who had his seat heating (different manufacturer, very different car) burn through the seat material because of a defect. Not good, and quite "uncomfortable" according to him. ;-)
5:00 at the company i work, we have the previous model (what in some markets was called the LC Prado) and it's doors do not sound confidence inspiring either, but few car doors do today.
Only a minute after the video started I began to notice there was an actual car in the video.
If it feels weak with just you in it imagine how weak it would feel with four adults, gear and a loaded down roof rack or if you're towing.
only thing I dont like about my 2025 LC is the small gas tank.
@@JannaBreslin Totally, I'm getting 18-19 typically. Drove ~90 minutes from the dealership, pretty sure the average was 19, definitely not mid-20s.
Great review. A true car girl.
Thanks so much! I'm reviewing something else here shortly, make sure to check out it out.
It is a weak proposal from Toyota. A missed opportunity from Toyota to create a amazing off road do it all vehicle in my opinion. Better values surround this suv. Time will tell
Coming from a bitter person who can not afford one.
It is definitely a premium price tag for what it is!
I'll say no to the new land cruiser but , YES to the Lexus TX500h with the 3.5L V6 with hybrid
2.4L? forget it
So… an SUV in street tires got stuck in the snow? I’M SHOCKED I tell you!
Please check your text messages to get rid of the notifications 😮
The door doesn’t sound weak to me. But otherwise good review and great production values.
Wet 🤯🤯
Wanted to love it but gas tank too small and doors sound like tin when you shut them.
The tight white shorts ……. Now I’ll always call it the Camel Toe Toyota 😁
Keep your 4cyl turbos in smaller cars and rav4s.
We need 11 on the volume right ??!!
Would never spend $70k on a Toyota
That’s because you can not afford one.
More car reviews please!!!
More coming - you have to check out my 2025 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro review coming out soon.

Breslin
Toyotas Sequoia seems to do it better.
A v4? a noisy v4 on the highway speeds instead of the v8 purring? Manufacturer says better gas mileage... yeah that's fine so keep that in the Rav4; There are many customers who are actually gas mileage conscious & have such cars, but still prefer that one of their cars be the v8 engine, overlooking the gas mileage issue. Toyota LC with a v4 is a slap in the face.
I would have thought you'd be in a Range Rover with your level of hotness. Toyota has no prestige.
Toyota - well reliable, but the Quailty is not quite there compared to Audi Q7 or Volvo
The doors sound 'tinny' a bit like an American car, lol.
It looks nice. I probably cant afford it, not even the 4Runner. Plus it doesnt snow in Hawaii. 🤙🏾
honestly what goes into this car for $71,000? it's worth max 40... it's a good car, I like it... but for that much money... it's sad, who pays so much for this car? then it's a mercedes gle, instead, a car that can be driven dynamically ... as soon as it's a suv.
what an iconic PoS now they made with this awfully crying 4cyl. Without a big V6 or V8 its a NoGo !! Mazda did it right with their new inline 6cyl. Diesel with 3.3ltr and 254hp in the CX-line
4 ctlinder L Cruiser, is that a big joke, hell nooooo.
Black mini and heels best tow package.😂
Look at what it's worth 1 week after you buy and trade in. Heck NO it's not worth it.
Isn't this a European model of a different SUV they dressed as Land Cruiser now?
It's a Prado, not a full fat Land Cruiser.
Toyota's marketing department dropped the ball here. If you need the Land Cruiser, buy a Lexus
So you got a free Toyota for having a RUclips channel?
It looks like a good SUV. A bit on the pricey side though.
When I saw the new LC250 I directly bought a well equiped Hilux. Well done it is 35 % cheaper with a better quality. 😢
You will be better off getting a 2024 4Runner 6 cylinder, next time try talking about the vehicle and not yourself.
I love the new Land Cruiser, I just don't love the price.
