Also, getting a bunch of article 15s won’t get you kicked out of the army. Once met a solider who was over the army and wanted out so he tried his best to be the worse solider. Last I heard, he was on his 5th article 15 in 3 months. Never knew what happened to him but just keep that mind.

Hey Chris! I'm a 29 year old dude with a wife and 2 kids. I've been an electrician for about 9 years and have always wanted more. I'm scheduled to go take my ASVAB next Tuesday and I'm super excited. I've always wanted to go in, and now I'm going to do it. I really want 17c so I need a high test score! Wrapping up 21 years without ever even being threatened with an Article 15. It's easy enough to avoid them, but I've seen my share of Soldiers getting threatened with or receiving one. I always told myself that if a leader tried to threaten me I'd ask for a court martial unless I knew I was in the wrong. For example, a fellow 11B was told that if he didn't start putting people in the Army he'd be recommended for an Article 15. I was doing worse than he was but I was really good about completing my USAREC Portal planning calendar. Even if I didn't make many contacts or get many appointments they were logged in, and though this was over ten years ago, everyone from the USAREC CG and CSM to the Station Commander could look at an individual Recruiter's plan and the work they logged in. If you made mission, you might get some hassle over your plan but nothing major. If you weren't the best production Recruiter, that Portal could save your career. Anyway, the young SGT would ask me if I was getting threatened with UCMJ and I'd tell him no. In fact, the CSM mentioned that I was probably the hardest worker in the battalion but just couldn't write a damned contract. In this case, as a clean Infantry E6 who had a good reputation with fairly senior leaders I'd served under in both the 101st and The Old Guard (TOG), I was ready to request an actual court martial if the 79R posse tried to throw me under the bus.
In my experience, being recommended for an Article 15 and having it go up the chain is essentially a guarantee that you're receiving one. Since it's non-judicial there is minimal, if any, due process or representation, and the commander who holds the hearing will usually defer to their subordinate that recommended the action. In other words, if your squad leader doesn't like you and knows how to put things on paper, the platoon and company leadership will probably side with them. While the possible punishments are much higher, a court martial at least rests your fate in the hands of a panel of officers and NCOs as well as a judge. I think what gave me this mindset was sitting in court as a Prisoner Escort for a young Soldier who had gone AWOL and came back having tested positive for about 6 different drugs. The judge was very thorough despite the young man's admitted guilt and while he did some Brig time and a Bad Conduct Discharge he at least got a fair hearing. I've known SPCs that walk into a LTC's office for a fairly minor incident who got maxed out in punishment.
Also, in some units you might find your company commander get promoted to Major and think he has the power to hand out Field Grade Article 15s. In Recruiting and TOG I had this happen, and each time the commander was reminded that while he was a MAJ je was still serving in a company level command position, so Summary and Company Grade were the limits of his power
There are lots of Soldiers who screw the pooch and get slapped with an Article 15, then move on to outstanding careers. It used to be said that getting busted down a rank or two was the quickest way to make E9. I remember a high speed PSG sharing his story during a safety brief, who had gotten a DUI as a PVT and still made E7 in under 10 years.
In the Army, we have a saying: "Be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform". I'll add "with the right attitude" to that. It's an easy job despite its occasional demands and hardships. It's not just "you", everyone has problems, so there's no excuse for slacking off or being a general shitbag. If you happen to mess up you move on. One very good thing about the Army is that you might be a zero in one unit, getting started off on the wrong foot or having leadership that targets you, only to be a hero in your next unit, where you get a fresh start and might have learned from earlier mistakes.
Those of you considering, or in the process of, joining, know that military service isn't for everyone. I'm glad I enlisted when I did, and though I could have spent at least three more years in uniform, perhaps even making E8 or E9 and serving beyond 30, it was time for me to hang up the boots when I did.

Got a Field grade 15 my last 3 months in. I refused to put my weapons in the arms room. Was asked by my commander why I did not put my weapons in the arms room. I told her. I would never see it till I etsed or pcsed. I had friends many times who asked permission to take their guns out to go shooting. They were never allowed. My commander got yelled at when that was revealed by my Bat commander. My roommate was a rat and told on me. I lost rank from E4 to E3 and 45 days of extra duty and loss of pay. I got my Hon discharge. I requested a open hearing for my Field grade. My Bat commander refused since I was the most popular guy in my unit and told me I would win. I still refused to store my weapon in the arms room. I was told if I reuped. They would drop the charges.

Commonly leadership has to counsel you on accountability of your ID card and then you will have to go to the DEERS office to get a new one. You will have a bit of an issue trying to get on post though. You will have to go through the visitors gate for what ever insulation you are going to and need to get a vehicle inspection and background check done to get on base and have to do that everytime until you get a new ID.

If a weapon got damaged in a combat situation then it would get sent off to be repaired if possible and the soldiers would be issued a new weapon because the unit has extra weapons that are taken with them on a deployment.

Yea, I got one, and I'll share it. I was young, dumb, stationed in Germany (then West Germany) in 1983. Me and another soldier were out on the town (Fulda) drinking and we met a couple of young German girls. I decided to be a gentleman and drive them home since the busses had stopped running by then. I got pulled over by the MP's and got a DUI, resulting in an article 15. I lost a stripe and got a $300 fine. I guess I was lucky in one way, that it was not considered nearly as serious as it is today. I knew of officers who got DUI's back then. Now, they might kick you out. Live and learn.

So I talk to him and he admits that after cleaning he rubbed his bare ass on both desks and piss into Top’s coffee cup. I was getting out, I really didn’t care. That was hilarious.
