I've lived in NYC for more than 45 yrs and I've seen A LOT of fantastic art shows, but this one was a total MIND-BLOWING experience!! Here I am in 2021 STILL talking about it, several years after the show!!
I wish I had a time machine cuz I'd go to 1970-1980s NYC!!! I'm blessed that I was born in 1980 and lived during the 1990s Hip-Hop golden age and buying every Wu album on release day. But 1980s NYC graffiti was an awesome time!!! I watched Style Wars religiously til.this day. That documentary changed my life. I was born and raised in Nor Cali Bay Area but I've always loved NYC hip-hop culture!!! Don't get me wrong SF and Oakland are awesome cities and I love Bay Hip-hop, Hiero all day. But NYC style just spoke to me

Rammellzee did things that definitely fit the definition of alchemy. It’s because he took thrown away items and turned them into artworks or implements that he then sold. That completely fits the definition of alchemy. This is a pretty cool mini lecture about this equation that I’ve always been fond of. THANKS FOR SHARING!!
I'm referring to Hip-Hip , Graffiti and Art Culture in general.... He is still influencing / inspiring and will for generations to come! "Our" as in ONE if you really want to know about unit of culture as it is ours and we are together as one.
Grandmaster! I am happy and proud to have met you. Our joint work was just great. The necklace that you artfully made and gave to me always reminds me of that time. RIP my friend. TRAP TWO aka Ayhan S
Don't understand how Basquiat.....a talent no doubt....can get so many docs books t shirts movie but Rammellzee gets nothing....someone explain this to me please
He slept with art dealers. Period. Basquiat was a no talent, psuedo-intellectual sociopath. You can see he clearly stole many of his concepts of salvaging garbage and the cryptic language on canvas from Rammellzee. Except it was all a pretentious, hollow rip off.
@@mr.enigma4475 Except that Basquiat ran with Rammellzee and they collaborated together, although there was always tension between them. So Basq didn't rip him off but more like continued some of his work in his own way. If you don't know, you shouldn't comment.
LOL You are still full of illusions, in the art world talent in nothing , but it's about the network you have , if you're friend with the good people you can do the worst stuff on earth they gonna push it and you gonna find you way. Exactly what Basquiat had, this man is talentless sorry but he was sleeping with Andy Warhol that pushed him a lot...That's all what happened.
As a kid, my fav part of Wild Style was at the Amphitheater and Rammellzee was on the mic with gun in hand, always thought it should have went on longer, the beat was sick, his flow was different- I rewound and watched it a thousand times! This was great, thank you.
I'M 41 and have only a bit of time left at time being here holding contact u know life is fast done.. And it hurts a bit in da guts to be holding that much energy inside and out
When i found out he died from complications from prolonged exposure to glues and toxic fumes... it all makes sense lmao.. true visionary and i feel hes criminally underrated and underexposed

more hip hop artists need to embrace wearing masks to enchance their persona. with him and DOOM gone now, its a dying artform. Ram was ahead of the game in lightyears and conversations, artisically also.
Pesquiso o Afrofuturismo em canções brasileiras e parei aqui por conta da entrevista do Mark Dery "De volta para o afrofuturo" porque ele mencionou o Rammallzee e simplesmente chapei.

It's like a trailer for a movie that needs to be made.
Was thinking the same thing. This is a great piece, but someone so wildly creative deserves a feature length tribute.

Yes! Between him holding the gun spitting and shouting out rocksteady crew by individual names, it was the best part of that classic
I'll be at that amphitheatre in the new year. Can't wait, just to stand there and transport myself into that moment.
