I gotta say, Batwoman really pissed me off in this story in regards to Luke. Why must you lose something to want to be a hero? Tony Stark is almost the same, billionaire in a fancy suit of armor, (there's been alot more depth to his character but for the sake of it). Apparently, you can't do good for the world unless you were unfortunate enough to suffer a loss. Not to mention, Luke has been an asset time and time again. It's not his fault he has money and he's using it to do good, and he's a bit more positive than
well, it's an easy way to give someone motivation. even in marvel, spider-man lost his uncle ben and he suffered that loss because he didn't act when he could have. batman lost his parents and he wanted to make sure that didn't happen to anyone else. loss is a huge thing, but it is pretty overused.
but i'm also not a comic fan aside from batman and spider-man, so i don't know how prevalent it is everywhere else. i'm probably wrong!
Sanic Hegehog Exactly, I didn't think everyone has to lose their parents to be Superheroes, they beat that origin into the ground in the New 52.

I think it was more along the lines of "I don't trust those who only serve themselves"
EchoMaximum That's her character arc. The character has ideas and visions of its own toward the world. Ideas that you don't necessarily have to agree with. That's how depth in storywriting works.
So Steph, what's your plan for the next Arkham inmate to escape? For the next intergalactic baddie that Bats helps the League fight? Since you want Bruce to hang up the cape and cowl, I assume you have a better way of dealing with this than Bruce does.
I love Spoiler questioning the effectiveness of the Batfamily in the face of all of the collateral damage, but hanging up the masks is an idiotic solution.

PartyClasher lol i buy comics, plural. In the last 3 months i spent over $300 so that's 100$ a month, so yeah i pay 60$ for cable and internet a month, 1 item, as opposed to comics, multiple, and I'm not going to buy every single issue of every single comic.

Well-written or not, this pissed me off. I am so sick and bloody tired of "Batman (or other hero, but Batman seems to get it more) is responsible for every evil think in Gotham" stories. How many more people would be dead if the Joker or Scarecrow only had to deal with the cops? Every one of them (except the First Victim) were harmed because Batman WASN'T there at the time stop Joker, or Poison Ivy, or the Scarecrow. Unless something's changed in the New 52/Rebirth, Clayface isn't even responsible for his situation, much less Mudface. Blaming the hero solves nothing and it doesn't sound like any of them were called out on it.
Batman and The Doctor (from Doctor Who) both seem to deal with this stigma that if they disappeared it evil would go away. There's a great episode of the Animated Series that proves otherwise, but this theme doesn't seem to end. I'm just getting tired of it. It's not the majority granted but it keeps coming up and I'm sick of hearing it. Superheroes stop supervillains and unless they're incompetent they aren't responsible for what villains do, they stop what villains do, or at least minimize the damage as best they can. End of story for me.

Rare exception, but it's not like Joker became evil just because of Batman. Maybe. I don't think the Joker knows his own history, or cares, at this point.
That's one of his origins, the one Alan Moore came up with. Like I said elsewhere (I think with this video) the Joker doesn't even remember his own origin because he's had so many.

Detective Comics seem to be focused on Batman, the mentor/teacher, and how he affects everyone around him
The Batman Comics on the other hand focus on Batman himself and what he feels internally and how situations shape him
Finally, All-Star Batman (my favorite Batman comics) focus on Batman's relationships with his villains and how the villains' stories are complex, and though Batman fights against them, he tries to empathize with them as well.

this new writer for Batman is by far the best hands down no one even comes close to taking Batman to new levels changing his story line and actually seen what he thinks about people and how he affect the world. the depth of the story and the action brings back my love for Batman and proved again why it's called Detective Comics. I feel like all the movies have lost sight of what Batman really is but this storyline shows all his best attributes.
I cannot believe how good this comic was. It was soo much better than the last detective comics issue, and that one was amazing too. Can't wait for the next one
i personally in my opinion feel that Stephanie brown aka spoiler does make a good point and she does have good reasons but on the other hand though her going rogue is really depressing at least for me

Tevya Smolka there was and is a point to be made about "vigilantism", but as demonstrated multiple times, Bruce letting the legacy of Batman "die" causes much more harm than good to the city, especially living in a world where meta-humans exist and the constant threat your planet coming under global assault from an alien empire is quite a common occurrence.

I really hate Stephanie she doesn't get that if batman stop hundreds if not thousands will die and suffer more then just a few. She doesn't understand that the criminals are to be put at fault for causing so much trouble.

Taha Badar Well, Batwoman and Spoiler lost a lot, Kate lost her sister and mother, New 52 revamped Spoiler's origin to have her mother go AWOL, and her dad trying to kill her. This also resulted in several of Steph's friends being killed, but we only see one die on panel

this has to be the most dumbest Primus for a comic I've ever heard not not the fact of Batman's victims coming back to haunt him but for the reason why the victims are coming back you're telling me one guy was injured by Joker gas and instead of putting its rage towards the Joker he goes after Batman and spoiler this shouldn't be how the world works so I'm going to get rid of all the superheroes that protect Gotham and leave them with nothing but police against criminals like Killer Croc is basically Bulletproof or scarecrow who pretty much always attacks with a huge thing of fear gas thing God provide the next return of Ra's al Ghul in his Army of Ninjas or a bunch of cops going to do against that Gotham screwed
The thing is that most of Batmans villains were created by him. Thats the beauty of the Batman mythos his villains are sometimes created by him and almost always have a vendetta against him where is there a Batman story where a villain is trying to take over the world just for the sake of it or trying to do something evil for the sake of being evil. Apart from the crime syndicate like the Penguin, Black mask etc. etc. alot of Batmans villains target him and it puts everyone at risk. So Stephanies thinking isnt completely wrong, this story arc is very interesting and has some really good development for the Bat Family.
Chris you make a good point but still the story still could have been handled better this isn't the first time Batman is lost a friend I would assume just like all other jobs the individual would be aware of all the risk of doing said job pulling on the mask could pretty much spell your death at one point Prince maybe instead of the death of Red Robin we see a better example of Batman failing to protect someone
Yeah, most of them didn't even have real beef with the Batman, as much as I like this storyline, I really would've preferred for the writers to go back and pick some *actual* victims of the Batman's crusade.
But the thing is that alot of these villains Batman created in a sense. Look at Joker, if Batman didnt corner Joker and made him fall into the vat would Joker exist today? and then would people be scarred by laughing gas? the whole point of this story is to make people think about the Dichotomy of the Batman persona. Yes Batman protects the city but he perpetuates the problems too, just by being Batman he is a target for new villains to come up and wreak havoc on the city. Idealistically he could hang up the mantle and join the police force or something or help the city as Bruce Wayne, improve Gothams security and infrastructure. In a way what Batman does is very selfish and is done to hold down his own psychology and problems of losing his parents. That is one way to look at the Batman and this story explores that and how a young girl would react when people bring up this point about Batman.
Chris dude nobody knows that the Joker is batman's fault! and even if they did it would still Not make any sense to go crazy on batman as He is obviously the only one capable of stopping the Joker on a regular basis. i mean even if you say hey batman should have stopped the Joker before i got a fucking allergic!!! reaction (so Not even the Joker would have known about that) than why Not be Mad AT the Flash or superman who are much more capable to stop threats asap

Man,this story really got to me. Ive grown to love all the characters in this Batman series and seeing them fall apart one by one reminds me of the "Death of a Family" story arc.

at this point in comic history the villains are pretty much cemented in comic history or Gotham really they can live on without the bat and might feel a little bored but they would still do wat they do
and Stefanie is pretty much not up for the whole all nighters and not knowing if ur gonna survive kinda like harper who liked it at first but not really up now for it now just goes to show not everyone is really meant to be a long running hero even in comic books

This was an amazing story. I understand why Spoiler is angry and the first victim but it's not entirely Batmans fault. Yes he shares some of the blame but if he stops being Batman Gotham can become worse than it is now.

Steph has a point, at least half of Batman's enemies exist because of his actions. More villains keep being created because of him. Sure a world without Batman wouldn't be perfect but one where Batman never showed up in Gotham would have been better in many ways.
