  • Hello and welcome to my channel
Hope you have enjoyed joining me today for making a new ironing board cover.
Making something as simple as this can really brighten and change an item in your home - it's easy to do and quick!!! So it's a win win!
If you fancy joining me on instagram - my account can be found here :
    www.instagram....
So for this sew along you will need :
    Tracing paper
    pens/pencils
    Ruler/seam gauge
    pins or wonder clips
    Cotton fabric
    Bias binding - I used 1" / 2.5cm wide
    Elastic - I used 3/8" / 1cm wide
    Fabric and Paper scissors
Heat Proof Wadding - which you can purchase here :
    www.amazon.co....
In addition to this you will need your sewing machine and thread.
    1) Begin by laying your ironing board on your tracing paper - and trace around
    2) Now using your ruler add 7.5cm / 3" around the original traced line
    3) Cut this out and trace this onto your chosen cotton fabric
    4) Open one side of the bias tape and pin right sides together around the outer edge of your cotton fabric - at the start fold back 1" of the tape, at the end repeat and fold back 1"
    5) Stitch using the crease of the bias tape as a guide
    6) Fold the bias tape over to the wrong side of the fabric
    7) Stitch on the inner edge a few mm from the edge of the bias tape
    8) Using a safety pin, thread your elastic through the channel you have created
    9) Secure in plece once full threaded through with a safety pin
    10) Either trace around your ironing board frame or your original heat proof wadding onto your new wadding and cut out.
    11) Finish by laying the new piece of wadding on your frame and covering with your new cover. Adjust the elastic so it is tight.
And you have finished!!!! you are now the owner of a shiny new lovely ironing board cover!
    Thanks again for joining me.
Have a good week, and happy sewing
    Take care
    Angela xx

Thanks Angela, a really good tutorial. Shop bought covers never sit perfectly on my ironing board, custom made will be so much better, and likely cheaper!

Thanks Angela, since my ironing board needs a new cover and because it’s extra large I have hunted high and low for one without success, I will make one instead. Thanks for sourcing the flame retardant interfacing. Great job!

I'm not sure how I manage to ruin my ironing board covers so quickly! I've always purchased store-bought ones. I wanted to pick one up yesterday, but the least expensive cover in our local Joann store (I'm in the US) is $50! That is insane and I'm just not willing to pay so much for 'fabric' that I can't even wear! 😂SO your video is so timely! Thank you.

Hi Angela! Great tutorial 👍 can I ask what weight of wadding did you use and how much did you purchase? Thank you 😊x

Thank you 🥰 I did buy this a long time ago. so I am not 100% sure what weight I got - I would say though to go thicker than thinner for a nicer feel ironing board cover - if that makes sense.
I probably just bought around 1 meter / 1.5 meters. I have an annoying bit left over that doesn't fit anything 😂
Hope that helps - sorry I can not be more specific xx

Hi Angela. I'm a big fan of yours love your videos, I'm quite new to sewing and I have learnt the hard way by cutting into the original pattern, could you please advise me on what's the best tracing paper to use, I'm thinking something that is easy to fold and store, hope you don't mind me asking. Val xx

That’s so kind of you - thank you so much.
If you are after tracing paper that folds up nicely you can’t go wrong with the packs of Burda tracing paper :
