Picking up my BSA exhaust on a Triumph from the home of Royal Enfield... 🇬🇧

  • Being back in the UK for a short while on a work trip I decided to take advantage of the situation and pick up a new exhaust for the BSA Goldstar 650. I really want to lose some weight off the bike wherever possible, I'm not fussed on performance gains as I know they are a bit hit and miss. After reviewing the options my go to is the Hitchcocks decat pipe. Its super as it retains the original look of the BSA 'pea-shooter' end can and also saves the wastage of either throwing away or having to store you standard system. I also have damage to my OEM header pipe so this modification will have multiple benefits. I would like to thanks Hitchcock's for their kindness, advice and support. They are a great bunch and I appreciated their hospitality.

    Sean, great video on Hitchcock's thanks. I did notice while you put air in the Daytona's rear tyre it looked very worn, if maybe me but please get it checked for safety. Best wishes to you both.

      @MindfulMotorcyclist  4 месяца назад

      Hi William, thanks for the comment. The tyre is a Continental SportAttack4 which is a very soft compound. The 'bobbles' are from the track where I've been on the edge of the tyre. If you're really fast your front tyre will look like this too, mine is only the rear 😊. I will probably switch out to sport touring tyres when these are worn as they are 90% as good and don't need to be warmed up as much before they start gripping. Thanks, Sean

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist
      @MindfulMotorcyclist  4 месяца назад +2

      I predict it will make next to no difference to power and sound perhaps a little different. My main upside is just to get rid of the excess useless weight. As TEC said in their video about their exhaust, a weight saving aids acceleration, turning and stopping which I suppose is true but if I'll notice it losing say 5% is another thing...

    That was absolutely fantastic, sometimes a video comes along that just puts you in a good mood, and this was one of them! Now I'm dreaming about an old 535 Continental GT with that performance head on it! I think that's the most behind-the-scenes I've seen at Hitchcock's. It was a nice surprise to see you taking out the Daytona, and seeing an old Guzzi parked up at Hitchcock's, too. The comments on the extent of Stuart Fillingham's influence were interesting to hear. I doubt I would have bought an Interceptor if not for his videos, so I count myself as one of the people who have been influence by him.

      Honestly Mark I was smiling from ear to ear on this one. I was in a good mood being toured around and it has made me think again about mail order, there's a huge benefit to visiting places like this in person. Thanks Lee, I'd gone off the Daytona to be honest because of the riding position but the engine man it was so good 👍. The sport bike class is now booming again (with P twins admittedly) but early 600s you can't buy em that easily because there are no new ones. So supply and demand they will start to rise in value. I've spent loads on mine so I'll probably keep her and maybe put some risers on their for comfort. I will say Lee that most on here have no interest in sports bikes so was good to hear your comment as I do love the D650! That's another point, mine isn't just a 600 but it's a 643cc special 2005 only bike they called the 650, just to keep buyers happy until the triples came out. Thanks, Sean

      Great bunch they really are. I would also love a career in motorcycles, yes I'd be paid less but man the job satisfaction would be off the chart. Working with your passion every day. I'm sure it has its downsides like everything but still. Oh regarding the centre stand, not an options at this time, terrible shame but BSA also located the ABS system under there and Hitchcocks (and I'm sure other aftermarket companies) don't really want to develop out a modification that involves relocation of the ABS pump as its a safety and regulatory critical component. It would be very expensive as well. BSA I think slipped up putting that down there.

    👍biking content, 👍interesting, 👍relevant, and nice to see where all my money ended up over the years! Stock silencer end can is £1,221.25 and people are ripping them off and putting on much cheaper all be it lighter bits. Decat down pipes keep the original styling and does the job, simples. My only concern is the frame design leaves a big hole crying out for blanking plates. Did you ask Hiscocks if they are going to fabricate a solution?

All by chance not a planned video. Regarding the silencer, I know, people are binning these silencers for the TEC items or MooreSpeed I'm going to keep even my damaged one and restore it, i think they look great and you educated me on the BSA symbolism i think nice to keep. 2 will the removal of the catalytic converter affect the running and fueling?

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist
      @MindfulMotorcyclist  4 месяца назад

      It will probably affect the warranty and insurance. If they do reject a warranty claim that would be disappointing especially if its not engine related such as corrosion on brakes. The engine will relearn its settings based on info from the 02 sensor. I will let the engine learn by running it for 5 mins after first install. Cheers, Sean

    Today's motorcycles are a collection of government regulations on 2. Motorcycles are loaded with electronics waiting to have a expensive failure. The RE 350 is transportation in India, in the west RE 350 is a toy overweight and under powered. Everyone told me my 883 that l should make it into a 1250 cc and I said when it wears out maybe. 25 years old and 400,000 miles on the original engine. I think 💬🤔 the bike will outlive me. I have had my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years. I love my vintage BSA C-15 250 singles in both street and dirt versions.
