I am happy to have found this lesson as I have tried often to play this solo but failed most of the time. By the systematic breakdown in many logical peaces now it gets much clearer to play this outstanding solo! Thank you very much Ethan!!!
There are many ways to learn this solo and I think your approach is the best one I found around the world. Thank you for such great patience and for sharing your skills.
I love your lessons because, well first of all you know what you are doing, but mostly because you go at the right pace. You break it down in pieces, play it normal speed ,then half speed, the note by note. Most people on you tube go way too fast or way too slow. Nice job!
Ethan is an amazing guitarist, the first 20 seconds or so of this video he plays the solo almost effortlessly, and very smooth. That's when you know someone is good, I'm jealous :-)
I just watched 10 different videos of guys playing The Stairway to Heaven solo set van yours is just like the freaking record and yours is the best out of all of the video's that I watched. .. Rock on man!!
Hi, Ethan. At first, i want to thank you that lesson so much, it helped me a lot.. really. :) Secondly, i have a request for you.. so: Can you put a video about the next sections to the end?:) Sorry if i have some mistakes, my English not the best, but i tried to do my best. :)
Hi I really appreciate the way you illustrate how to play this solo well. Your closeup demonstration is fantastic and I like it. Also, I would to request you to play the solo part of Bryan Adam's " Everything I do (I do for you) in similar fashion.
I think you played section 2 differently at the intro and at the explanation. At the intro you played an E (3s9f) and at the explanation (11:13) you played an F (3s10f). I suspect the way you did at the intro is the right one. But doesn't matter. You did a great job. This video is awesome and I learned a lot whatching it. Thanks, man.
at 10:08 is that important double downstroke and one upstroke? Because i used to practice with down/up/up instead of down down/up Does anyone know? thanks in advance
hi superNICK090 my charvel is San Dimas Style 1 HSS - Trans Gold Kandy.. some limited edition stuff i guess.. i dont know for sure.. i bought it second hand for 300$
Hey Ethan, thanks for the video. Since you split up the lesson in multiple sections it would be great to markers in the timeline. But great job anyway. Thanks!
That was the worst let down I have ever received. I learnt with you the solo till the point you stopped and then I found you saying goodbye. WTF seriously where's the rest of the thing I was having the best lesson ever here...
Dear Ethan Excellent work and quite understandable , even for pro. I really admired it ! However i have a general question if you like ! As all old classic songs, including this there are many bends that someone has to make to gain this rock sound and colour of soloing. But always with amps there is a crucial question. As i saw in your video you are muting very well the unwanted strings not to sound at all, when bending ! How do you achive that ? What technique do you use ? Thank you my friend !
+micmess59 I've been playing for over 8 years and the technique me and my known friends who are guitarists use in the situation you described is pretty simple. Say you have to strum a riff, you can either use palm muting for the others which works pretty well in most cases (esp if you're strumming 3,4,5th strings and dont want high pitched 1st and 2nd string notes).
hi ethan!!!! nice work ... can u tell me what distortion are u using for this song ? actually i wish to buy a distortion pedal .... plz suggest one too (that might be useful for this song as well) thanks
you know i was a great fan of jimmy page but as my apprenticeship is carrying forward am realizing that , the real genius of led zepplin is John paul jones .. and as constantly watching page, i realise that he could not even once repeat a solo as perfect as the recording,,, but yet hands up jimmy page...i still put him Second best in the world...
Thanks Ethan, for a very clear and patient breakdown and lesson. I apologize for all the smug, snotty little shitass comments from anonymous t*rds who are clearly jealous and smearing their inferiority all over the web.
Best lesson on the Tube! Thanks!
A little too much vibrato but the notes pretty much match the recording.
finally someone who finally made it simple to understand. I tried before and gave up. thanks alot.
I have watched a ton of guitar instructional vids on RUclips and you sir are one of the best! Thank You!
I am happy to have found this lesson as I have tried often to play this solo but failed most of the time. By the systematic breakdown in many logical peaces now it gets much clearer to play this outstanding solo!

Hey Ethan, thanks for the video. Since you split up the lesson in multiple sections it would be great to markers in the timeline. But great job anyway. Thanks!
Great tone. What kind of pups do you have in that Charvel? Pairs beautifully with the Marshall.
Thanks for the lesson.
Is there a part 2 to this lesson?
Hey Chimmy Payge, good break down. How bout a PT 2
That was the worst let down I have ever received. I learnt with you the solo till the point you stopped and then I found you saying goodbye. WTF seriously where's the rest of the thing I was having the best lesson ever here...

hi ethan!!!!
nice work ...
can u tell me what distortion are u using for this song ?
actually i wish to buy a distortion pedal ....
plz suggest one too (that might be useful for this song as well)
thanks
Rohan Nakra It's not using distortion,it's overdrive
Great! But, what about the rest?
He did the intro in front of a green screen and that big ass amp he has is just a image he pasted in
+Piet Henk Who cares, Dude gives a great lesson. Just need the entire solo. But the pace is perfect.
sadly, he probably executed the solo better than you can anyway!
once again, who cares?
are you using delay? what settings? Time? Repeats?
you know i was a great fan of jimmy page but as my apprenticeship is carrying forward am realizing that , the real genius of led zepplin is John paul jones .. and as constantly watching page, i realise that he could not even once repeat a solo as perfect as the recording,,, but yet hands up jimmy page...i still put him Second best in the world...
Yeah, excuse me if I'm wrong but didn' John Paul Jones write most of Stairway?
Awesome :)_
What's with the backing track? This is like one of those minor key song in a major key videos.
Is your guitar custom made by a greek workshop ?
part 2?
nice,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! guitar maker M.Rems,Slovenia, EU
What gauge strings do you use?
Where is the rest of the solo...?
It looks like his f-u finger at the very end was in lieu of for the rest of the solo.
Where are you from? Originally, like where did you get your accent
you should go and finish that last fills and licks
xellent, thanx
Big likeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thank you themonsters
Tablatura en pantalla por favor
Thanks Ethan, for a very clear and patient breakdown and lesson. I apologize for all the smug, snotty little shitass comments from anonymous t*rds who are clearly jealous and smearing their inferiority all over the web.
