  • The goats were tired of eating hay so they decided to go browsing and grazing. I called them from the North end of the farm and led them to the east side of the farm. We had leftover stockpile we never touched since we got over a foot of snow and below zero temperatures. Once the goats hit that fresh stockpile they were excited! Every day I can graze stockpile or brush I’m saving over $200 in feed costs! That adds up a lot in a grazing business! For adding more profitability in our businesses we need to be adaptive and take opportunities like this one to add to our bottom line!

Jordan, Thanks for these videos! Question I just asked Addison Ranch... with these types of numbers, how are you managing herd health? A handful of our 35 kikos just got mites and its frustrating enough to deal with on a small scale, can't imagine doctoring on the level you are running. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

It is always amazing to see the herd of goats following the leader. For the Guardian dogs do you ever has issues with their paws always being outside with all kinds of weather? In the video you can see quite a lot of ice on the ground so maybe they just get used to it.

I haven’t had any issues with my dogs yet. They seem pretty durable I guess.

Could you bring some cattle out to clean up that unrolled hay?

There’s quite a bit of alfalfa in this hay and usually when that gets wet it doesn’t keep near as well as grassy hay does. Hay supplies are pretty tight down here with the drought we had and alfalfa was a crop that kept on chugging through the drought.

That sure is a bonus. Are the goats going back there on their own or do you lead them everyday?

I just led them back there the first day and showed them that it’s there. Now they go back on their own now.

Hello i've recently found your channel , i must say your operation is amazing and its one of the most entertaining grazing rotation channels . I do have a question for you , do you have any fleas problem with your goats? Here in Portugal we do suffer alot but mostly are not rotation system , though i would like to find a natural way to fight it without vacinnes . Best regards

I don’t usually see any flea problems with goats. If they’re outside being rotated to new paddocks being exposed to the UV rays of the sun that usually is enough to keep them issues at bay. If your having trouble with fleas or any type of pest like that alot of times maybe that animal has a weakened immune system and due to a little bit of stress that can bring a lot of these common issues out in livestock. Making sure they’ve got some type of mineral they have access too, good feed or forage, and clean water goes a long ways. Thanks for watching!

I’m curious to what your watering program looks like? Where do they get water or do you haul it to them?

I was hauling water for a while but now they’ve got access to a frost free waterer. Goats don’t drink much water so it’s not too hard to haul it either.

What do you use to power your electric fence? I have Alpines and if it’s not hitting strong they go right through it

On this farm I have a Stafix M36. You need LOTS of joules
