- Freesat 4K UHD Set Top Box Hard Drive Failure and Successful Repair with Solid State Drive (SSD)
What to do when your Freesat Recordable 4k TV box has a hard disk drive error?
How to fix hard drive failure on a Freesat Recordable 4k TV box?
How to fix failed recording on a Freesat Recordable 4k TV box?
The Recordable Freesat 4K set top box uses an internal hard drive to enable to you record, pause and playback live TV.
Like all hard drives, they can fail.
If your Recordable Freesat 4K set top box starts to miss recordings, then this may be the first indication that the hard drive is failing.
The Freesat Recordable 4K UHD Set Top Box may also display a "something is wrong" warning screen when powering up.
Usually the only option is to replace the failed hard drive with a new working drive.
In this video we remove the failed hard disk drive, and install a solid state drive - ssd

Alternate Solid State Drive SSD 500GB - amzn.to/3OeyKMp

Satellite TV in Spain - Freesat in Spain - UK TV in Spain
We install UK TV systems for the Costa Blanca North and Valencia areas of Spain.
We offer TV systems to suit all requirements and needs for your home, bar or business. Whether you are looking for a new installation, upgrade or maintenance of your TV system, then we can assist you.
We have been installing and repairing satellite TV systems since 2003, with family members installing satellite TV systems years prior to that, making us one of the most established UK TV services in the area.
We can install new digital satellite systems, conduct fault-finding, carry out satellite dish re-alignments, removal of old satellite dishes, and upgrade your current system, or provide additions viewing locations.
With Freesat TV you have the best free UK TV service there is - with 150 subscription free UK TV channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, Dave and many more. And over 20 channels available in crystal clear HD.
Watch subscription free UK TV with Freesat
Watch free and legal UK TV with Freesat
Record UK TV for free with Freesat
With a VPN access the UK TV Catch UP services like iPlayer and ITVX on Freesat
We use only the best high performance 125 x 135 cm satellite dish - probably the best satellite dish for UK TV reception in Spain
We use only the best high performance LNBs - easily outperforms other LNBs we have seen being used by other “installers”
We use only Official Freesat or Freesat HDR recording receivers - including the Freesat 4K Set top box
When we install a Freesat satellite system, we use official Freesat Set Top Boxes. Some UK satellite TV installation companies offer you an Iberosat, Ferguson Ariva or GI Galaxy Innovations satellite receiver, claiming it is a Freesat Set Top Box. These satellite receivers are NOT Freesat Set Top Boxes, but basic “free to air” satellite receivers. These types of receivers will NOT have the Freesat logo, the Freesat Guide, Automatic Channel updates, a full 7 day programme guide, or access to online “on demand” content such as BBC iPlayer.
Satellite TV is still the most popular and reliable way to watch UK TV in Spain.
Satellite TV is live and direct from the broadcasters, in full 1080 HD, Dolby Digital Audio channels.
Satellite TV will not be closed down by the authorities for being illegal.

I just wanted to say thank you !. My Freesat box started to misbehave, recordings with gaps etc. And I was recommended to do a factory reset. I did that and apparently it finished off my HDD. I was resigned to trying to find somebody to repair my box until I found your video. I used your link to by a new drive (only £12) and replaced to old in under 10 minutes, my biggest problem was getting the two screws out. Everything is now working perfectly :-) 😀 😃
Glad it helped
Thanks for this. Had to hunt around for a driver thin enough to get the screws out but 5minutes work and £11.50 for a hard drive saved me shelling out £200 plus for a new box. Well done.
Glad it helped
@@SatTVGuyWhat size of driver is it for the screws?
It worked!!! Fabulous!!! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Followed the advice here and it’s up and running. Hopefully won’t overheat…
I used an old SSD from another project and formatted it as NTFS. Working fine so far!
Glad I could help. All 3 of mine with SSDs are still running fine since I uploaded this
Update: after a few hours running the box reports hard drive over temp. Looked in settings and it’s 64°c then 2 mins later it’s 0°c which is unlikely!
Sent the SSD back and got a Seagate so fingers crossed!
I took your advice using the link to Amazon provided and purchased the SSD. Sadly, despite successfully installing, the SSD soon overheated twice so decided to remove it to save damaging it. I discovered I can actually run the box diskless, so that is what I am doing for the foreseeable future as it seems too many people are having failed disks in these machines and I think it is probably due to a lack of internal cooling.
Hi, interesting to read that it is over heating. All three units i have done this with are working fine here (in Spain, where it is currently 35C, so if that does not help it overheat, not too sure what else!) Perhaps a small USB fan to blow air into the unit could help? But yes, quite a few people have had the original HDD failing, so somewhere a common hardware fault?
@@SatTVGuy I've just replaced mine with cheaper of the two SSDs - mine overheats as well :-( I'm going to replace the thermal paste and buy a mechanical HDD at the same time. One of those two disks will be returned in a day or two.
Very strange. As above, mine have been fine. Will test a few more SSDs and see if they work better, and if so change the link
@@SatTVGuy unfortunately what you also need to do is find a box that demonstrates the fault and see if any SSDs will work with those.
Will do if any of my three show the same failure, but so far all are working fine...even during the summer with out extremely high temps we had here
I replaced with the recommended ssd and I’m getting an overheated message too.
According to reports, the overheating issue is a software or hardware issue with the box, not a hard drive issue. Personally not see the message on my box.
@@SatTVGuy yes I believe so too. There’s nothing wrong with it at all will persevere.
@@SatTVGuydo you know if there is a flash update to fix ?
