I got to see this awesome Vette at Elkhart Lake in the late 70s at the June Sprints regional SCCA races - it was the coolest car there along with an orange and blue Dekon Monza, both super fast down those long straights.
I saw the video right now. This is absolutely gorgeus. The sound is as good as the driver. This beast isn't easy to drive. But Jordan Taylor is really a fantastic driver. His downshifts with double-clutch are so wonderfull. If you look onboard videos today many of the driver's can't double-clutch and the rear wheels often lock up. We saw Greenwoods entry live at Le Mans back in 1976. We loved the car and the man behind it. Before the start the crew had a table in front of the box an drank something(beer??). In the very first corner after the start, before the chicane the car came sideways. For sure a big moment for the driver. Love this car and its so good to see it on the track today.
Driver - excuse me Mr Engine I'd like some torque please. Engine - How much torque? Driver - all of it! Engine - sure thing! Rear tires - too much torque!!!!!
I could be wrong, but I think this car was rumored to be pushing 900+ h.p. On those old style slicks,no brakes, downforce is kind if there and alot of torque. This is a car for real drivers. And Jordan did one hell of a job
John Greenwood and his Corvette were about as _American_ as it gets. He was a regular guy from Detroit who loved cars and started out drag racing on Woodward Boulevard - the first paved road in America, I am led to believe. He was really tall, and he built and drove a series of big Corvettes with _enormous_ engines. He worked his way up to winning the FIA World Championship for GT Cars, as an owner-driver, with the help and support of some key people including his brother Burt. It's a cool story, and this is a cool car.
For a short moment i thought the car has a head up display :D But it's just a sticker. Love this old monster, one of my favorite Corvettes of all times.
I am sure you never know what she does the next split second. Such package down Hunaudieres under full throttle is a bombride. Tire temperature, noise, shake rattle and roll ... breakpoint :o
@Dmitri Fukov LMP1 average race time is around 3:25, while the official record during qualifying is 3:17... No it's not as fast as an LMP car, but still very impressive.
@@jamarcus_OG I would assume Dmitri meant GTE cars, where the current laptimes are in the mid-3:50s range even now. For a 44-year-old car, that's ridiculously impressive even regarding the layout changes to the circuit since 1976.
@@AJOmega2 He could also be talking about the 1976 Le Mans race, in which this car qualified 9th, in the middle of some prototypes. It was definitely faster on the Mulsanne than the Lola's and Mirages that year.
This is terrifying. I’m terrified for Jordan....this car is trying to kill him. What’s crazy is I can jump in my home simulator with direct drive wheel and VR. Load up this car and track in RaceRoom and even in the safety of digital motorsports this car try to kill me too. 76 Greenwood Corvette....you are so evil.
Does anyone make a Conversion Kit for the C7 to tribute the Spirit of 76 Wide Body C3 I love that body and would like to get my 2014 to mimic that look to honor the Greenwoods efforts.
I really want to learn how to do this visor cam setup with my GoPro cameras. I really don’t like the idea of sticking them to the custom paint on my helmets, where as I can change the visor when I don’t want the cam. Any help/ links would be appreciated.
If your graphics are clear coated: Suction cup mount or MAYBE a 3M Strip, but both might fall due to heat/vibration/geforces. If not clear coated, maybe just put a small square of clear vinyl and put a hard mount on that? You could try the standard headstrap or other strap on outside of helmet. They might even be using a strong alligator clip on the top center of visor, as it seems the visor is up a bit, giving something for it to grab.
If had a shot 🥃 every time I read "Beast" in the comments, I would be very drunk right now. That car sounds like a beast and Mr. Taylor is a great beast of a driver to handle such a beast around a beast of a track the likes of Laguna Seca! 🎉🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
That shit sounds nasty af, looks nasty af, drives nasty af... if I become a wealthy man I’m pouring my money into owning and racing a historic car like this
Can you just imagine what holding on to this animal for the 24 Hrs of Leman while this beast trying to kill you the whole 24 hrs . The physical exertion must be brutal . It would easily kill todays snowflakes race car drivers ...
@@MiguelGarcia-vj7oo The guy in third place at the beginning is driving a Corvette and hounds places 1 and 2 thru the turns. So there goes you're "American" car theory. This iteration of 1975/76 Greenwood car is 900hp with a 540 Chevy, the original was 700-750hp. This team running in historical races had issues at Daytona. The setup seems to be off in this car some times, though in the hands of the original racer, John Greenwood, it was a racer winner winning an IMSA and Trans Am title. It qualified 9th overall at LeMans. Here, it seems Jordan shifted into 1st, something that John Greenwood would tell other racers to never do bc it locks up the brakes, but Jordan never met John for race advice for this car, as John passed away in 2015.
That has to be the angriest car i’ve ever heard, what a machine 👌👌👌
Solid cam high compression grrrrrr
Yeah like an very angry dragon 😂😂

My dad raced the later tubeframe greenwood vette with a similar engine as this, and yes the sidepipes really are that loud !!
Awesome
That car is a beast!
Incredible historical C3R and nice drive by Taylor... but nobody can drive a Greenwood Vette faster than John Greenwood could.

Brutal American V8 like 90% of all race engines in the "States" through the times... 👍💪🇺🇲❗

Amazing Car! Amazing Track! Amazing Driver! thx
Oh he drivin drivin!!
700 HP, naturally aspirated, no compromise. A thing of beauty.
My testosterone just doubled watching this beast race.
What a freakin beast
American talent and American horsepower!!! YES!
Amazing video and amazing sound ❤️❤️❤️

Excellent, thanks
That first lap looks squetty as hell😮
Just think of how fast it could go if he could ever shift into 3rd! I'm thinking that this car might still be geared for Daytona and that 220mph, no?
He is using third and fourth.

Thunder for 40+ years!

Oh wait....lol
You can see the car is original drag link steering. even this vette. a highly tuned race car still has steering slop at center.
That is the coolest car I ever raced!! Hands down.
My wife just asked me to "Please... turn that down!".
I get that constantly!
Did you tell her, "Whaaaattt? I can't hear you over my freedom!" ?

The Golden Age of auto racing when the only thing that mattered was engine and transmission!
When you throw every engine mod on a car in Forza but never get to downforce or suspension.
