Let’s make a TEX MEX TORTA!
The TORTA is the most popular Mexican sandwich. If there has ever been a no right way no wrong meal, it’s the TORTA. There are so many ways to recreate the Mexican Sandwich - you can use round buns, bolillos, any meats like bistek, ham, fajitas, or even no meat at all.
Depending what region of Mexico you are from or if you’re along the Texas border, that can be the influence of which bread and meats you decide to make your sandwich with.
But y’all know me, I gotta go big, so today we’re making this torta with FAJITAS, HAM and SAUSAGE! Let’s call it the three meat combo torta…sheesshhh!
We’re gonna get our blackstone plancha out and get it nice and hot for a good sear and extra flavor, I love me a good char on my griddle cooked meats.
After a quick cook we’re gonna slice everything up and get it ready for assembly.
This epic sandwich starts with laying down a nice layer of grilled jalapeño beans with cheese. Then we’re gonna stack our proteins nice and hearty. On the other side we’re gonna slather some avocado, put some lettuce and tomato down and put a nice drizzle of crema to top it off.
Alright, I’m already hungry just doing this intro! Let’s make us this epic TEX MEX TORTA…VAMANOSSSS!
I originally came for the recipes. I’ve stayed around just because Arnie is such a good dude.
Tortas are so amazing. I went to Mexico as a kid 20 years ago and had the opportunity to have a torta there and it was one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying in my life. To this day, I cannot find one that reminds me of that one I had as a kid tho

What an incredible Torta! The char on the meats against the texture of the soft beans, avacado, Crema, fruit & veg, on a toasted roll....
The little outtakes at the end of the videos are what made me sub. Really brings that at home family feeling to the videos!
I looked this up just to see how others make them. I so miss eating these from when my mother made them when I was growing up. We would mash the avocados up into guacamole and spread it on one side of the bun and only have refried beans on the other side of the sandwich and we would add in a slice of grilled ham between all the layers. Sooooo good!! To me, a real good torta has to have a slice of hot grilled ham, melted, cheese, refried beans, lettuce and guacamole.

There's a restaurant in my town called Tlaloc, first time I dined there I had a torta and it's top three foods I've eaten. That green sauce will set your face on fire. 🙌

Try some Cacique Crema Mexicana, that's commonly available everywhere.
Crema is a little like sour cream, or that's the closest equivalent I can think of. Anyway, it's good!

I've had tortas without crema and you notice
Put the lettuce on the avocado then top with the tomatoes. Use your thumbs to pinch the tomatoes

That's way better than the garbage torta ahogada that Chapala in Fontana CA sold me for 10 bucks. Take the roll, cut it in half. Put chorizo on bread. Close bread. Smoother in the most bland tomato water you can find. That's it. Literally 3 ingredients. Bread, chorizo, tomato water.
