For the record Chris, the 1979-80 OPC hockey box was an attic find by a collector’s family in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. During the extended bidding, there were only 2 active bidders-1 Canadian, 1 American- & the mystery Canadian won the auction. ~info from interview of Heritage Director by CBC News
Wonder if Wayne Gretzky had the winning bid?
Yeah I have no idea why he thought Oregon? What a random guess lol
Besides factory QC might you also have concerns of warping and or moisture issues??
Probably best left sealed like a tomb in my opinion lol
@@ammocan2796this is fact. I recently opened a pack of 1979 OPC baseball and every card had some degree of damage. Probably a moot point as the buyer will probably never open these, but still..
Apparently the owner as well for years always thought it was a case from Gretzky's 2nd year not his rookie year what a lucky mistake.
Such an amazing find. My grandmother always said she “never threw anything out” so when it came time to clean out her house, the only things I found in the attic were books, Christmas decorations and a brutal allergy attack. Where are the cards grams?
My grandfather never threw anything out either and was a big baseball fan who attended every Milwaukee Braves home opener and every Brewers home opener. But when he passed I believe my uncle got a lot of ticket stubs and programs that they found (First ever Milwaukee Braves ticket, Spahn's no hitter, Spahn's 300th win, World Series stubs, etc). He never threw anything out either. But when he passed, you know who did throw things out? His wife.... there's some hope it's all in storage somewhere but since we're not related so the chance of me seeing any of it is getting slimmer by the day and he passed away 10 years ago.
I wish u made a high roller every week...love it
The research department overdid themselves this week. Great work!
Chris, I love your channel and the information you provide freely with your stories. These “rollers” videos are great for for collectors such as myself. I’m more of a regular rollers kind of guy, but these high rollers videos you produce always surprise and inspire me. I’ve never even heard of so many of these cards, such as the OPC DiMaggio in this video. Thank you!
The Jordan magazine, if not graded, would have trouble selling for $100. Put a slab on it, and some idiot pays $33,000 for it..lmao
You could say the same for many cards. The magazine market has started heating up on the graded side much like other genres that have grading
Have you seen the VHS market? 😂
@jakestoe another one that is starting to pick up with 5 figure sales
I agree! I have 2 of them in a tote under our stairs!😂
Am I crazy but why would that one of a kind Mickey Mantle contract go for so much lower than “mass-produced” cardboard? Shouldn’t that be in a museum?
We opened a pack of 1979 opc in my store last month and pulled a gretzky. It got a 6. The quality control was reallllly bad.
That would make me not even thinking about buying this
It doesn't matter you can't open it, it would only lose value. You have to keep it unopened. No fun in that.
I want that headband of Jimmi's. Love the high rollers, and thank you very much for sharing.
You can’t even spell Jimi…
This video had more thrills and chills than any of the recent Marvel movies.
Unreal finds this week. Wow.
The Gretzky case is a good investment! Think of how many clean complete sets you can make! These blue cards are very difficult to get it good condition. Im not sure a complete mint set exists so you could possibly build a few!
The items up for bid in this auction were pretty spectacular!
Investing in old wax boxes seems to be a smart idea. As more people open them ( huge temptation) the scarcity goes up. With cards, pop counts can only go up
It's how us TCG guys make our money. Buy a $200 box of Pokemon or an MTG Collectors box, throw it in a closet for 2 years and double your money. It's not something you can do with a lot of modern Sportscards outside of specific years, sports, and boxes tho, like 2018 baseball wax that contain Shohei Ohtani rookies or 2017 football products that have Mahomes' rookie.
Optic, Select, and Prizm blasters get stupid expensive FAST. 2017 optic FB blasters are $350 all day, hell 2020 optic FB blasters are holding $150 because of Tua and Burrow.
Just need to know who has the best card in what product and take into account how valuable the rookie class is.
Very good to see the Research Department making a solid comeback after the Gazillions Incident.
CRAZY to think that a huge majority of these cards were once jammed into a shoe box under some kids bed back then!!!! Man, if we could all go back in time!
Mike Bossy was a great Hall of Fame hockey player on great teams... had a short career...
Surprised you didn't touch on the 2 high end NES games that also sold in this auction. One of each- a wata and cgc graded. Both over 200k. Zelda and Mario 2 sealed
Your “Yeah Right” division needs to make themselves more available in these videos 😂
Great video, Chris! Thanks for everything!
Man, it would suck to complete the condition fickle 86 fleer basketball set in a perfect 10 grade, then just have to sell it.
Just amazing! Thanks Chris!
That DiMaggio is stunning 😍 props to the owner who preserved that for several decades!!! 😮
Seems like a deal for Killebrew Rolex . Loved the Hendrix headband .
Didnt BBCE have a scandal where a sealed box was opened and found not to be untampered with even though they said it was?
I wouldn't trust those lying, cheating, greedy rat bastards.
I wouldn't trust those lying, crooked, greedy rat bastards.

Unable to reply to your post about these lying cheating crooks.
What percentage of these high grade vintage cards do you think are doctored / repaired / trimmed etc . I know it’s something no one can really know for sure . It’s just something I have been wondering about lately
A few quite possibly but both psa and sgc are very very good at weeding those out.
I think the older The holder the more likely it's trimmed or doctored.
I think a very very very small percentage of cards in PSA or SGC holders are doctored.
The, "if I had a time machine" effect is strong this week. Maybe the strongest ever imo. That 50-60 year old unopened wax is, frankly, unbelievable.
Man some of those 40s, 50s, 60s in grades of 9s and 10s raise an eyebrow 😬
What do you mean?
Those cards are all more than likely altered/restored.
I've been thinking this very same thing. Someone, somewhere has a card pressing machine. Lol!
There is no way there are this many prewar cards left in these conditions. Prewar cards pop up daily, weekly, monthly & seems like it's neverending.
That Mantle is probably trimmed.
That case is just ridiculous. Somebody has been sitting on that for 45 years.
Jimmy Hendrix headband photo matched lol
Fun superman fact... Kryptonite was created not in the comics, but because in the 40s, for the daily live radio broadcast, the actor that voiced superman wanted to take a vacation, so they invented Kryptonite so superman was incapacitated for a week with no speaking lines.
Seems like a good deal for the Rolex.
Nat Turner was the buyer of the 1966 wax box.
Wow that PSA 10 Fleer set is down from millions during the pandemic. Sold for 360K now. Cajun Cardboard and others were offered a million and more for the same set.
Wow what a sale there were was some super high end treasures.
Oregon… come on research department! Lol
There is a reason the research department likes Oregon. If you know what I mean...🤣
Surprised there are not more post cards around . Even if they were used . People used to save everything
PSA is buying SGC. Would love to hear your thoughts Chris, and do a video on that topic when you get the chance to. My gut reaction, however, this is probably not the best thing for the hobby. Just my opinion. Even for people who are PSA fans, its good to have options, and having a monopoly negates that.... Beckett and CGC are not going to be able to compete with PSA in the vintage side of things.
the hobbies biggest issue is there's not much competition, so this won't help
It's ALL about the filthy lucre. Period. We only need to know if it isn't a fake. Then haggle with the seller over the price. Period. Keep it simple, stupid. But we still muck everything up. Now we just feed the Beast and listen to more whining about this boring subject.

Its funny seeing Stan Musial's rookie card. Probably the only photo of him in existence where he doesn't look like an old man
Two Canadian gems: the DiMaggio and the box of Gretzky's!
Lots of SGC holders.
FYI, that Jimi headband has at least 10 hits of acid in it
one of the weirder urban legends.. lsd would work like that, but not very well I don't think. "slap it on your forehead!".. lol.
Given the current environment where older labeled PSA cards may be looked at as not as valuable as a newly graded PSA card of the same grade, wouldn’t it behoove these sellers with massive cards to re-holder them before selling?
Un-cut sheets are rare indeed. O-Pee-Chee used to have some hockey sheets Un-cut if you knew someone who worked in the factory😁
Is the “Yeah….right!!” Department hiring 😂
That might be a record for any Postcard
How much would PSA charge to grade the NBA uncut sheet?
I dont think they grade uncut sheets
Hendrix headband is cool. I think your research department is getting uppity.
I would cut the sheet ,the break up value 😮
Stan Musial rookie always seems (relatively) inexpensive for an inner circle HOFer.
High rollers in march gonna have 10 psa 10 gretzkys As the top 10 cards
I prefer low rollers over highrollers
The mays card would be lucky to get a 6 from PSA today if it had any corner wear with the print defects and a stain on the back. I wonder if the hobby will realize this 10 years from now and give a “deduction” grade to older graded cards.
Already started with psa slabbed cards
@@richardbianco9674 do you mean vintage guys have already started to devalue older graded cards to less than their present day same grade ones?
@Goobastank yep, maybe not investors yet but thr big collectors already have. The main reason I think the mantle ones in a 10 wouldn't break the record unless there are psa fan boys that want it to break the record by sgc. One seen all 3 and they don't look as good as the sgc 9.5
Do you know what the perceived card number line? 50,000,000 ish? Is that when the grading seems to have been changed?
I wish I had just 1 of these to pay off my debt....
great video thxs chris
Hey Chris. Long time viewer, first time asking a question. When a card from say PSA is graded a 10, does that mean it is perfect in their eyes, or perfect for what the card could be? That may sound trite, but say all cards of a set were printed with a machine error, could a card still get a 10 if it is a perfect example of that specific card, or would it be disqualified from getting a 10 due to the factory error even if every single card had that mistake? Thank you for the content.
A 10 should not have any errors at all. Machine error lowers the grade.
A psa 10 doesn't mean prefect. Psa uses guidelines for each of the sub categories. For example a card can be 60/40 on centering and still very a 10.
Personally, I think its insane to open vintage unopened product. It's turning something of inherent value to little more than a very expensive lottery ticket.
There's no reason to open it. It will only decrease the value. It is worth more unopened.
I need a 10 hour black screen video of you saying "Mike Bossy"
so you are saying I shouldn't open my 1979 opc case? :P
Go for it!
I'm guessing story time videos are done ?
There are more coming!
86-87 fleer is the best set ever
If only I had a time machine 😂
Willis Reed? What can you do with a 4 million dollar box of hockey cards? You can't open them as the parts are worth less than the intact case. You can only resell the box in the future. That's not sports cards collecting to me.
PSA pop very not many 😂
🎉
Wowsers
LMAO some modern cards get lower grades than that Willie Mays card, which are in so much better shape. What a farce card grading can be sometimes.
As a kid I opened quite a few packs of 1979 Topps hockey. I had pulled 3 Gretzky rookies but sold one in the early 90’s for $300 (less store commission). I still have 2 but have misplaced them in many boxes of cards….
that'd drive me nuts lol
@@colinburroughs9871it has! Plus I could have hid them in a record cover which I now can’t remember. I own thousands of records!
