Money aside, you added liquidity to your collection. Those cards can be moved much easier in the PSA holder. 🎉
I enjoy the financial breakdown of the submissions, and what you bought and sold for, Chris.
You are one of the few people creating this sort of content who I actually trust: that doesn't have annoying thumbnails, doesn't engage in click-bait, isn't trying to sell a course or formulæ to their success (or, in many cases, perceived success), and is open and honest.
Keep up the great content, keep on acting with the utmost integrity, and may the PSA upgrades continue! 👍
fun stuff.... vintage is so much more fun to see graded ....
Really enjoy these videos Chris. Nice cards. Curious, why you didn't use SGC for the baseball vintage. They sell for close to PSA and you only have to pay $15/card. Until next time. ....
I jumped when you almost razor bladed your thumb
I cut my knuckle one time and had to get stitches, be careful out there with box cutters.
For the price they charge PSA should give an explanation as to why they gave the grade they did.
Agreed!
I’ve said this a million times!!
No they shouldn’t, that’s not apart of the deal. Never has been, never will be. Be happy there are companies out there that can elevate the value of your cards just by assigning a number to it.
TAG does
Why you continue to go to psa? Especially vintage. SGC! I just don't get it.
Helpful succinct and no nonsense sharing. thank you. the way PSA does their orders complicates things for the hobbyist like me so including a card even if it gets up charged has an advantage saves you an extra $25 on return postage. so maybe a little bonus on the Jordan and Mays for example.
The Hank Aaron’s paper loss makes the silhouette of the Braves head! Might make value higher? 😂
Major pet peeve... PSA really need to share their grading sheets to explain their grading decisions. At a glance, that lower graded mantle looks better than the higher graded. Unfortunately with the growing monopoly, there isn’t much incentive for PSA to improve the user experience.
Never happen unless the collecting community demands it.
Ya PSA really got ya good on that 1st Mantle you showed.
Have a good one Chris🤘
Please keep us updated on what you sell the 1954 Aaron for.
Love the vintage cards. Too dang expensive for grading fees. With the millions, upon millions of cards that PSA grades, and rakes in many more millions of dollars for fees, they should be able to lower these grading fees, regardless of estimated values.
Now they’ve bought SGC, so watch prices skyrocket.
There only real fees are labour costs like it probably only costs psa 10cents per holder
@@spic0liCorrect. Ironically, PSA is only out pennies per case, which (also ironically) does absolutely nothing to protect your collectibles. It has no UV protection, not crack resistant, and not scratch resistant. All grading companies are like this. It's so ironic and shameful you have to buy protection for your cases, which means that their product is useless.
enjoyed the financial breakdown of how the slabs adjusted the price :)
How dare you tell me to eat my vegetables!!! I’m “Meatgan” which inherently makes me a “Vegetable Rights Activiist” so I will NOT do anything of the sort, sir!!! The lives of vegetables need to be protected 😂😂😂
Great video, Chris! Thanks for showing us the way 🤘
Ha! :)
I would check that 57 Mantle PSA 2 to see if there isn't a small dent in it somewhere. If not, resubmit, or send to SGC and get a 4.
I love watching your videos and how you break everything down. Just sent in my first PSA order last month so I should be getting mine back hopefully at the end of this month.
Good luck with the order!
the qualifiers were supposed to be not used anymore. weird
People are paying $1,000 cold cash for Wemby Silver Prizm RCs in raw condition....
And there are $50 Lamelo Ball Silver Prizm RCs ALREADY GRADED in PSA on the market. So basically, pay the same price as standard grading and get the card FREE, the guaranteed grade of 9 for FREE, plus the option to crack and resubmit well centered cards for a shot at 10 (which can 5-6x value). Turnaround time gets cut from a month (standard PSA grading) to around a week or so from the major auction houses (Probstein etc).
Sorry folks, time to make some serious cash with a market like this. LOL....
The Brown 4(MC) looked more like a 4(OC). And the Mays 2 looked more (OC) then the Brown, but yet received no qualifiers.
Gotta love PSA.
Definelty goes to show how much value being in a PSA slab adds even low grade.
Ya, to 5’s superstar players….
@@Bradydog-in7ut for sure have to pick the right names
@@jd66cards I ment to say 50’s cards of superstars
Yup, greater fool theory at its finest.
My favorite part of my Sauturday mornings is waking up, making coffee, a quick breakfast, and then sitting down to watch Baseball Card Collector Investor Dealer
That’s one of the problems with grading. You go from the actual cards condition to what the number says at the top. You could have an over graded card, but people don’t look at the card itself anymore, just the number at the top.
Great point!!
But it's nearly impossible to move high value raw cards, unless you are in person. Now both parties know the condition and that the card is authentic.
@@jamesadams8207 I do get that, I just think grades are wrong at times and nobody cares.
@@jamesadams8207Disagree. That is what grading should be. But there are definitely trimmed and altered cards that have sneaked past the grading ''experts.''
@@jamesadams8207 Tell me, do you honestly think PSA grades their cards accurately? Quite unwittingly, PSA admitted that they were over-grading cards when they came out with their new, more stringent, standards. PSA has also been accused in the past to giving their biggest submitters preferential grades. At best, the history of PSA has taught us you better look at the card and not the grade!
Thanks so much for the breakdown of the card with or without the added value . Yours is the first I've seen like this . very educational
Some big boy cards, Chris. My favorite is the '59 Topps Mantle. I disagree with the up charges but, we all have our opinions lol. Congrats though
ahah seen your shorts chris i like them !!1 was curious if there is a way to do a video on product hits that have never been seen? this 12/50 brady and 12/25 has not been seen and was curious if other chases have never been seen.
Thats an interesting video topic...
@@collectorinvestordealer yea what also interesting is how the major hits have panned out after topps issued a statement about odds, and transparency related to the products.
You show what you could sell them for raw, so is it to be assumed that you paid less than what they would sell for raw and that there would be additional profit to factor in?
53’ Mays is a beautiful card!
Would you have consider someone submitting with you? I have a hard time understanding the paperwork of the process?
I generally do not do that as it creates a lot of tracking work on my end.
I think you can do significantly better than $1100 on that Aaron even with the paper loss. I spent a few years chasing that card, and very very rarely was any graded example as low at 1100.
PSA graders love to shit on their customers 🤦
I know is not baseball, but what do you think about the crazy price for connor bedard young guns and the bounty of 1millions usd for the 1/1 ?
Hey Chris, sorry if I missed it, but have you updated your series where you try to time the market. Buying sports in the offseason and selling at what might be a high point? How did it go so far? Thanks!
The next episode will post in a week
Glad you were able to get a 4 on the Jordan. Nice additional value. And, as usual, PSA celebrates your good fortune by taking their cut.
Tougher the card, tougher the grade on a few of those! Fun high end reveal either way!
Chris, what do you think about PSA purchasing SGC? How do you think the value of SGC slabs will do in the future and also do you think PSA will re-slab SGC slabs with the same grade??
I plan to do a video on that at some point
Acoording to the press release, they would remain separate entities.
Hey, Chris, quick question: I recently graded a printing plate for my Pete Alonso rainbow, it got the expected “Authentic”, but on the registry, it shows a it is a “1”, is this normal in your experience? Thanks, John
Interesting, I am not actually sure how that works
How to 1954/5/6 topps cards grade when they have glue/old paper on them? Say the card grades a 5 otherwise.
.
I'm curious how ebay reports sales, I just started selling, will I get some sort of tax document at the end of the year? If so how do you show that the card you sold for $20 isn't $20 in profit, because maybe you paid $15 for it, or worse $30, and sold it as a loss. Not looking for tax advise, just how ebay reports this and your process. Thanks
There is a report section in the ebay site, you can get your stuff there. They don’t issue one this year unless you did more than $20k in sales
PSA just seems to random. I think I'm only going with SGC for now.
How do you determine a card's value that you bought decades ago, and sold it on Ebay, for tax purposes. I sure don't have receipts from that long ago. lol
I just want to mention that there are other fees and things.
So where was the Jordan purchased then?
It was in a private collection I purchased
Chris;
Technical question! I own a 2008 Topps update and hi lites Clayton Kershaw chrome refractor autographed card (CH not UH on back) that I’m thinking of submitting to PSA. I’ve had the card protected since pulling it from a pack so it looks perfect eventhough you never know with PSA. My question is what level of service would you send this card? On the Pop report site, the last “10” sold in 2020 for $4,000 while a “9” pulls in $1,200-$1,500. If they graded it a “10”, it would most likely sell way north of the 4k but I don’t want to overpay PSA if it comes back a “9”. Please help!! (I often wonder if service level submitted might affect grade given to card. Thx again Chris.
I would submit it at the lower level. If it ends up with a high grade, they will simply upcharge you and you pay the difference in the grading fee.
@@collectorinvestordealer Thx again Chris!
PSA graded the Jordan a 4 to get the extra cash out of you.
Is that $2260 gain taking into account the cut ebay (assuming these go on Ebay) is going to take as well?
I did not factor in seller fees
No need to include seller fees, you are going to pay fees whether the card is graded or raw, it doesn’t matter. It’s not like you magically don’t pay eBay fees if you sell them raw. This is a great breakdown of the added value (or sometimes loss) of grading compared to raw.
He probably sells plenty of cards privately. I bet he gets offers just based on this channel, which has 65k subs!
Sucks they gave qualifier. How it the Mays did not get a MC qualifier like the other???
Those would have done much better with a little Kurt's card care..dun dun dunnn😂
So you bought the Jordan raw. How certain were you it was legit?
I was sure it was legit but was not sure it didn’t have alteration
Really nice return!! Always enjoy these videos!
Live by the PSA sword ... get screwed by the PSA sword ... "thanks chumps"
Chris,
You ever get a card back that you may have thought got swapped out (with a lower grade example?).
I have never had that happen
@@collectorinvestordealer Thanks for the reply as it’s one thing I never heard happens but wondered if it could happen.
Will your Mays get a bump now?
fees to grade cards based on the card's value feels like extortion
Good stuff! Thanks Chris!
There's gotta be a video in the works concerning the purchase SGC by PSA, right? Maybe include your thoughts in your next video about grading advice?
Yeah I will talk about that at some point.
Must've been 2 dif. guys grading the Mantles - sheesh.
Thanks again Chris!
Eat your veggies!
Vintage cards should go to SGC, shouldn't they?
They could but in my experience it is easier to sell cards for stronger prices when they are PSA
I thought so you slowly kill the hobby when you are strictly are in it for the money. I hope SGC becomes collecters main company not PSA.
You should have gone with sgc for vintage, you will get a grade higher than PSA and the value on vintage isn't to much lower plus getting the correct grade
SGC is just as strict on vintage
@@jamesadams8207 they grade vintage better than PSA
@@jamesadams8207SGC is big on centering for sure. I have bought cards in 4's and 5's where there wasn't any other issues at least that I saw anyway
No ,PSA grades vintage the same as new stuff, sgc grades vintage correctly
What happens if a person sends in a card and gets an up charge they do n’t have the means to pay?
You can just decline the upcharge and they send the card back ungraded.
@@collectorinvestordealer Thanks!
What is the world going to do when all the vintage is graded?
This order for me would have sent to sgc regardless of the announcement. Not much a price difference in value and 15 vs 60 to grade.
Psa is sgc now
@@Mr.JonDoE they are still separate companies. Submission cost has not changed
@richardbianco9674 correct but at end of day you paying the same people. Probably would been ok with sgc jordan had to go psa
@Mr.JonDoE still paying different companies. Collectors bought sgc not psa
@@richardbianco9674 let me know who owns psa when you get a chance smart guy
here is my question there is not a psa 10..with a qualifier..so why is it considered 2 grades lower. Shouldnt it be one grade. It would be a 9 with the qualifier.
There is no hard rule, but in general, a card with a qualifier sells for about 2 grades less.
Never submit the same card at the same time
Does lettuce and tomato on my taco count as eating my vegetables?
I'll allow it
Love these, the only thing you leave out is your investment per card, how much more money than the $2260 did you make or do you not put that in case not to offend the original seller just in case you hit a home run on them.
The video is about the value that grading add to the carts he submitted. Not the value of his complete transaction on each card.
@@jamesadams8207 Got it. Thanks
Why did you do expedited grading?
The expedited grading automatically comes with the higher service level
@@collectorinvestordealer do you mean the higher limit for the up charge?
My cards were too valuable to send in at the cheaper service level. So I chose a service level more in line with their values. Those service levels automatically come with faster turnaround times.
That Mantle is no 2
Sometimes, the graders ding your cards opening up the box. I had that happen a couple of times, which lowers the grade
Side note. I got MJ 8
?? MJ 8?
@@tubenachos Michael Jordan Fleer Grade
Not a bad days work!
Sick loot
Could you PM me please I have a situation with a huge over charge from PSA and you an expert on this topic.
Nice you don't hide the grade and give a 10 minute Ted talk on each card. I don't know why most of the collectors on youtube feel the need to do that, viewers are just trying to see what these cards are grading at with the flaws they have.
Yes, the hiding of the grade and monologue before the big 'reveal' of a PSA 2 is annoying. I stopped watching the pregnant pause videos about ego. Chris gets right to the point. I like his approach.
@@jk-califkid5017 I've unsubscribed to probably 25 channels just because of that.
PSA's QC has me really questioning whether it's worth the headache to send in for grading. Seems completely subjective, and dependant on how the individual grader's day and mood is at the time of grading
You're not wrong
subjective is the most obvious and funny part about it
All the SGC homers on here now have to submit with Beckett as they would never trust PSA $$ right.....🤣🙄
Still different companies ( for now). The parent company Collectors owns many companies so not quite that yet
Qualifiers are garbage and should not be used anymore. That Brown doesn't look MC
Chris...for the first time.. ceacks out the 2-3 worst graded.. and sends to sgc!! Would make a welllll watched video.. and 1 grade better sgc in vintage sells better than 1 grade lower psa
2nd gj chris
😅
Crack the mantle 2??
One day someone who doesn’t know cards will sell me some vintage cards for a bargain … cuz I’ll never pay what it cost to own these
That's getting harder and harder to find. There just aren't that many cards from the 50's closeted away with non-collectors.
The man says he's happy and shows you on paper the value he added, and yet all you bamas comment on how sh*ttE PSA is like, "Come on, move on. it's the best / only option out here where we can gain value. Give them a break!"
1 mk Aaron compared to the 2 Mantle is a total joke.
This is not meant to be a knock on you but more a general observation of the state of the hobby.
If an alien came down and objectively looked at the card collecting communities revolvement around PSA, they would not understand it. At some point, the community bought into PSA creating the most value for cards but the fact that there is really no consistency to the grades, makes ALL their grades worthless. I feel like it is similar to that fable, the emperor’s new clothes.
Giving over authority and trust to what is effectively a haphazard number is just insanity. And yet, we all play the game.
As long as people are willing to pay more for PSA graded cards, nothing will change. And who can blame people for grading? If you can pay a fee, have a card graded, and still make 50%+ over what you could get for it raw, you’d almost be stupid for not grading. If this is your job/career, you basically have to grade cards these days.
@@carlos424 yes I get that. My point isn’t to argue that the PSA doesn’t make cards more valuable, it does. My point is that group-think makes dumb decisions. The hobby community at large has bought into PSA being a trusted metric - it is not.
The first Jim Brown is not MC it is OC only. They ripped you off. Mis-cut is a more serious defect.
Wow
@@ACD1994 Off-center is just off-center but a mis-cut is a factory defect that goes far beyond off-center. Cards with bad margins are not mis-cuts! 💯
Mmmmmmm, vegetables!! 🥬🥬🥕🥕🥔🥔🥦🥦😁😁
PSA upcharging is horse-s**t
Way over valued cards. Sorry, just not worth those values, they will keep falling and rightly so.
60 per card is an insanely high price for grading. Thats 4 times what anyone else is charging. Plus an upcharge. People are such sheep when it comes to psa.
