Howdy, folks! This time we got a Pork & Rice W/ BBQ Sauce MRE from 1993 that has been frozen for the last 15 years (Actually just talked to Jerry, the dude I got 'em from and he told me up to 20 years) and this experiment was a 100% success! This thing looks and tastes like it was made last year! Even the applesauce was in perfect shape! Absolutely amazing MRE review for that reason alone and totally worth watching, you won't be disappointed.
Hope you enjoy the review and stay tuned, I have 5 more just like this one where they were frozen for at least 15 years! Stay tuned! :-)

Luckly we ate this MRE when the volcano errupted in Philippines way back 1991. US military distributed it in evacuation centers.
I heard about mt helen, one of most disastrous volcano eruption in history. Stay safe bro. Canada have amazing people
I never really thought about what we gave out for disaster relief, but now that I think about it, MREs make a lot of sense. Glad you're alright.
@@nigeltheoutlaw yep, I lived on mre’s for a couple months after Hurricane Katrina. My familiarity with them is what made me so interested in this channel.
It looks like having a basement freezer full of MRE's is not such a stupid idea after all.
mrKozmoz ha yea really. Guess i owe my crazy uncle an apology
Your wife must have gotten on your ass about saving MRE’s and taking up freezer space lol

MOST INTERESTING! The RAFCO rep had it right when he said " frozen, they'll last forever". I put those into a freezer in 1996 when I changed homes and they were 3 years old at room temperature at the time. COOL BEANS STEVE!!!
cool indeed man... and useful info for ultra-long term storage. I was wondering how your analysis would work out and am very pleased with the results! You da man dude!! i ate an old ham and cheese omelet last year from the same stock and I thought it was as good as ever... thanks for the confirmation bro...

even worse is that all the meat he's eating is older than half of his viewers

It is just weird when you don't say "Nice" after placing it all on the tray the first time.
😂😂
Nice! M'kay.
It scared me
I wasn't the only one who noticed that lol.
Not surprised at the instructions on the Wet Naps, people are morons. For example, Aldi recently had to recall some bag of nuts because it didn't have a specific warning on it that it contains nuts. Yet it was nuts, labeled as nuts, and had pictures of nuts on the bag.
True story.
Toolness1 I believe it, same as the lady that won a lawsuit against McDonald’s because their coffee cups did not have a warning saying the beverage may be hot.

Less because people are idiots, more because people will sue over ANYTHING. Gotta make sure they've covered their ass.

Mom would bring home crates of these in the 90's at the marine base we lived. I probably ate a pallet of them and made hundreds of marine cookies with the creamer and match books and had a few cheese ball barrels full of hundreds of spoons and condiment packs. I'd just open the things for cocoa and coffee because they were my favorite. I probably had more MRE meals then regular home made meals that decade and I never gained weight. Someone should make MREs that are still super healthy but wont clog you for a week. Then sell them cheap to college students.
As a college student, I'd buy those.
+RoadkillD418 mre's are slightly expensive
George Merkel I'm aware of that. That's why the original poster said to "sell them cheap" -- then again, I think Banquet has already taken up that market selling cheap frozen foods. Pretty much an MRE that needs to be microwaved.
But isn't the gum also a laxative
+Folse Prophet ?? Average mre is like 5 dollars if you been pay 20 you been getting robbed

My dad would bring these home from duty sometimes when I was younger. Usually only opened them for the gum, haha
This was my favorite MRE of all when I was in the military in the mid-90s. It was good hot and it was even good cold. The choices back then were pretty limited. Pork with rice in BBQ sauce was #1 on the list for me though; followed by Chicken Ala King and Tuna Noodle Casserole. The of them all was the Omelet with ham - although I suppose if it was heated, it could be edible - and the corned beef hash.

awesome story ! Greetings from Quebec, Canada
I joined the Army in 1993 and Pork with rice and BBQ sauce was my favorite MRE! Oh man this brought back some good memories. Nice
Dude... You make me feel less depressed. Your just so calming. Chill. And nice.
When I saw that this ration had applesauce in it, I knew that would be the most telling factor if the experiment worked. Everything looked as good as the day it was packaged. Great review as usual! Im really excited to see how the others held up being frozen for that long! Hopefully they'll be just as tasty!

In ROTC in 1994 I made the mistake of biting an MRE tootsie roll. Broke my permanent retainer.
took forever, but now I finally know what year the MRE's were that me and my dad used to eat!
Hey steve, have you or a member of your family ever served in the military. And,how did you start reviewing mre's?
I think i was drooling the whole time. 23 year old food fresh as yesterday! Amazing! So worth a sub!
Me: freaking over eggs past the expiration date 20 mins.
Steve: biting into 20 year old food.
Hey Steve, I have been eating MRE's literally forever. my dad was a very bad cook when I was little so I had MRE's and it was the best thing that had entered my life. I have no explanation for why I love eating them so much but I choose them over actual cooked food. Also I just subscribed after about a month of watching your amazing channel and say frosty.
Well done Steve, always clear concise and to the point. I always warning your MRE taste tasting videos. Your descriptions are perfect, continue the good work.
I feel ripped off not getting my "nice!"

love his passion for these units. the only experience Ive had with any MREs were this type from the mid 90s in JROTC. it's fascinating they can preserve food and pack everything so nicely into a bag like this.
Steve is the coolest, he has the time and resources to enjoy cool old rations. Thanks for the videos, i look forward to them everyday, your one unique dude!! 😎
I feel a little trolled at 2:26
Great video, I am glad to finally see a vintage MRE that was well preserved. I am glad that you like the Ranger Mocha drink. Maybe make some Ranger pudding in the next video.
“Jerry Your A Genius!” And you made Steve Geek Out!!!! 👍
Hey Steve, I am hooked on watching your vids and have now subscribed to RC Gusto, Kiwi Dude, Gchultz9 and a few others you've mentioned. Thank you for the vids they bring back so many memories of trying C-Rations and MRE's that family would bring home to me. Another thing your videos have done is inspired me to find a Fred p38 someplace other than Ebay "been burned on ebay" I saw the Fred in your CR1M review, never knew they existed until then lol. Anyway thank you and keep on doing what you love dude!
Pork and Rice in BBQ sauce! Best damn MRE they ever made!
I don't know why I love watching these videos so much. really entertaining and great for killing time lol.
now that I started watching his videos I don't think I'll be able to stop. STEVE . You da man! 🤙🏻
Got some I bought almost 20 years ago, pretty much same as these. Been sitting in 4 different garages since. I don’t have near the confidence in opening them now. But storing new ones in a freezer, great idea.
As Peter Brady would say: "Pork chops...and applesauce"! Seriously though, this is absolutely amazing! As fun/interesting/repulsive as it is to open an old MRE or other ration to see what kind of condition it's in (and to revel in how bad some of them end up being), it's really incredible that you've gotten a chance to try out some MREs that are well over 20 years old! I didn't think any such thing even existed. It's too bad there isn't a giant warehouse somewhere filled with vintage frozen MREs. I've always felt a little bad for the old brown baggers (and early tan ones as well) because they already have such a bad reputation. When you see one opened now it just goes to reinforce how "bad" people think they really were. While 80s-early 90s MREs were definitely less appetizing than a lot of the stuff they put out these days (after decades of constant improvements and tinkering with the menus and the improvements in the science behind the food preparation) it still seems unfair to do a straight up comparison between an old one and a modern one, since the old one has the obvious disadvantage of, well, being OLD. When I did my reviews of a couple 10 year old Cheese and Veggie Omelet meals a while back I felt bad because they were even worse than they should have been because of the age factor. There seemed to be no way to do a fair review of them because there was no way to experience a "fresh one". But now you've managed to basically go into a time machine and review a FRESH (ish) MRE that's been extinct for years! I mean, how freaking cool is that?!? Can't wait to see the rest! Sorry for the long rambling comment, but I feel like I've just witnessed an important moment in ration history!
(cue Elvis singing "Sweet Memories").....
+gschultz9
This review actually made me remembered your frozen and rough handled MRE experiment a while ago and I was wondering what will happen to that MRE if you left it in a fridge and let it sit for fifteen years. lol
+佐井トラね子 I was thinking about that too. This really demonstrates what's good and bad about freezing MREs. While you're not supposed to "rough handle" them while frozen, and while I believe it is a bad thing to put them through multiple freezing and thawing cycles, if they're simply frozen and left in that state it's obviously the perfect way to preserve them indefinitely!
+Steve1989 MREinfo Have replied to your PMs here and at MREInfo.com, but I think you can probably guess my answer!
Why is his videos so satisfying
Jesse Pinkman Informative they are and I have to say it's pretty cool seeing him discover and talk about this stuff.
And this is just food not too different from regular food with two differences.
1. They are old really
2. Made for the military
I'm pretty sure I had the same menu when I was a kid, cool to see it again, Thanks for showing us Steve.
Wow, I had that one in... 1996! Pork with rice & BBQ sauce is the best MRE menu ever! If somebody would can that stuff and sell it at the grocery store I'd buy it by the case! They never should have discontinued it. Thanks for the video - I could almost taste it again lol

It's a slow transformation, though. Look hard at this video, Steve has just lost the hair on his arms, and his guns aren't swole up yet. It took until 2018 for the hair in his head to shorten up. He may never stop transforming! It is up to us to witness these chronicles of how eating old MREs changes Steve's life in ways no one can predict...
