I've been looking for an alternative to the dual shock 3 for years as they're getting expensive and to be honest, I don't like the shape. I will definitely be picking this controller up!!

Best third-party PlayStation controller I bought, up to this point.
Big kudos to Retro Fighters for making this controller use USB C to recharge, as well as giving it Sixaxis tech (even though, I don't care about that, but all games work on this thing because of that inclusion though.)

Just received mine. It’s great! I use it solely on the PlayStation 3 ..

Great review. I hate sixaxis control, but need it to play Killzone 2 sadly

I recently purchased a Retrofighters Defender controller, and I like the shape of the controller, and all of the buttons seem to work okay, except for the L2, R2 buttons, which are way too sensitive - I barely rub against them when pressing the L1, R1 buttons, and the L2, R2 will activate. Also - the L2, R2 buttons are located way too close to the R1, L1 buttons. On the Sony PS3 controller - the distance is about twice as much between the L1 and L2, and the R1 and R2 buttons. Is there a way to decrease the sensitivity on the Defender controller L2, R2 buttons? OR - is there a better alternate controller for the PS3?

Does this have better movement for the left analog stick? The one for ps1 and 2 feels like it only does hard diagonals and the standard 4 directions and just feels odd

Are you planning to play PS2 games on PS3 or will you rather play on PS2 directly? I am wondering if this controller works with modern adapters like Brook Wingman PS2.

Does this work with games that absolutely require sixaxis/PS3? Thinks like Sly 3 and Okami that refuse to start otherwise

Yes. The sixaxis works in this controller. I demoed it in the video.

The directional pad is a hard no for me. I want 4 separate buttons.

The original PS3 dualshock controller was always too small for my hand size. So I mainly use a PS5 controller on PS3, but the drawback is that the PS button doesn't function on PS3. So I ordered a couple of Voyee dualshock controllers, but again, they're too small for me, and they have an automatic shutoff after 5 minutes of inactivity. The Retro Fighter is a much better PS3 controller.

The mentions of how small the DS3 controllers are, are few and far between lol. I have the same complaint; just way too small. I guess a lot of people have smaller hands

Replacement controllers for PS3 or any Sony console don't need to be just like the original in my opinion. For me Sony controllers are always to small and cramp my hands and that includes the PS5 one. So if I ever get myself a non first party controller the first thing I am looking for is it to be more in line with the size of an Xbox Controller.

This is definitely a controller for you. 👍🏻

You must have absolutely massive hands if the PS5 controller cramps your hands. It’s much longer than the Xbox controller so that seems odd.

@@RobsRemixes The length of the grips would be fine. The problem more so lies with the fact that my pinky finger, as a for instance, goes all the way around past where you can take off that front piece. Don't know how to explain it in words but if you took off the piece that's under the thumbsticks my pinky finger would go inside the controller near the bottom while I hold the controller normally. Ring finger worse.
Sometimes while playing those fingers even touch my palm near my thumb.
It's fine for a while but I can't go long before my hands cramp up.
I guess I would say it's the diameter or circumference that's the problem.
To add to that I have always preferred The positioning of the d-pad on Xbox controllers. Reason being is I can continue to use the left thumb stick and control the d-pad with my right finger if needed. On Sony controllers no matter what I do I have to take my thumb off the left stick. There are some games where that is a big deal for me.
Either way, I'm old and I got PS1 when it came out and that was in my teens, and I've had every system since so I'm kind of used to it at the same time as it sucks if that makes sense. The PS5 controller, dualsense, is far better than the PS4 controller it's just still not there for me size wise.

rpcs3 is great, way better experience than using og hardware. why would anyone wants a dualshock replacement when you can just use dualsense.
