It's a shame, under new ownership, PG's quality isn't nearly as good as when they made their debut. I got the chance to hear the ZX350, M100, & ZPA 0.5. Sounded Great, and clean, with no distortion. nowadays they are just an overpriced product because of their legendary brand equity from which the founders built.
I used to repair car stereos (1988-2006-ish) and was good at it...... Anyway, I still have quite alot of old output i.c's TDA- etc. that might be of use to you if you do any head-unit repairs on older stuff, they are yours free if you want them, located Oxford OX4, I still do some repair work, but not that any more. Or if you ever need 1 for a specific job feel free to ask, I'll never bother listing them on ebay etc.
Not sure on the amps, but their SX subs from a few years back were excellent. I ha e a pair of 12's that I beat on with a JjX100.1 for 4 years. They have been in my daughter's car for the past 3 years and are still going. They are so e of the best SQ subs I've ever heard, and they will still get plenty loud if turned up. I actually would like to find another set of them and replace the 2 15's in my xterra with 4 of those 12's.
Hello. I love watching your repair videos. I have also been through this old school car amplifiers. I still have a few lying around at home. I find them so useless nowadays as they put out so little watts. 5 channels I have never liked so much since weather channels give so little wattage. They also didn't put out that many watts in the 90's, even though bass speakers often couldn't handle that many watts. class D is the thing
First I thought I was a CX model then I realized this is their new China versions of their amplifiers. I got a set of m series that needs new caps it's just too bad you're not stateside. They all still work perfectly, I'm surprised the caps haven't leaked at this point.
You're a great mind. Thinking about these low ohm amplifiers. So i ask you does a sealed box influence "BOX RISE" in a different way than a ported enclosure? Is box rise more prominent in one vs the other?
Great video !!! , All amps got snubber ??? I have an amp with 2 transformers push pull , but 1 bank of 3 fets are heating up , square wave present , change 494 , fets , resistors , but they still heating !!.
My audio system m-90.4 amp just broke down when the voltages got to low one time and now the amp speaker terminals doesn't make any sound at all but the power comes and the green indicator lights up and doesn't smell burnt or show any other signs on the circuit board. Would you have any ideas 🤔
I've got a Z1000.1 in the boneyard that was given to me free 'cause it didn't work. I've changed all the power supply FETs and all of the audio output FETs. Upon powering the remote, red LED comes on, then turns blue like it works, then after about 5 seconds, goes out. Any advice? maybe voltage regulators? gate resistors? thanks in advance
Being proficient at soldering is a good first step. Then learn about dc and ac electricity. Then move on to basic circuits. As you gather knowledge you can understand basic principles. Then you can repair or make simple circuits and just keep going. There's a ton to learn before you get to Sam's level. It just takes time and determination. 👍
What do you mean by black plastic cap? Do you mean the thin discs of plastic that's just for cosmetics? If so, then yes. Underneath those little covers you'll see the typical stress marks that will allow it to open up if it's damaged.
Love the vids!!!! So question: do you ever get burned out on repairing amps? Lately i have. Had a string of 4 amps that i thought i had fixed just waiting on parts. Parts come in I install and wham all 4 still not operational....spent a few hours chasing ghosts finally gave up for a few days as a break. That was 4 months ago. LoL. (My amps not any customer's.) Got any advice for dealing with burn out? LoL (Im fortunate that amp rapair isnt my only income, Im a RN as well.)
Hey man, yeah sometimes, just put them on a shelf until you're ready to look at them again. The longest I had an amp was 5 years. As time went on my skills improved and I was finally able to figure it out. You'll get there.
Hi I have an old Denon DCA 800 6 channel amplifier which I purchased new in the 90s and I have just installed it recently but having a problem after using it for about 30 minutes the volume goes lower and starts to cut out any thing you can help me with would love for you to go over it if you can Many regards Peter
What's up brother, how are you? I have a small problem with an amplifier and it is that 2 of its output transistors were shorted. Trying to repair it, I found that the transistors in their serial number only have the letter H and the number 8 (H8). I want to know if there is a possibility that you can help me if you know the number of that transistor or any replacement that I can use.
@@barevids Do you know what the transistor marked H9 is and what driver IC is used? It's out of a Sundown Audio SFB5000D. I didn't think anyone was doing this mess anymore (defacing the parts).
I think he's going to tell you no. He made a video about 5 years ago on this brand. He goes over a TI 2000.1 amp and it's poor construction quality. Maybe that 6 channel is better? IDK. It might be a perfectly fine sounding amp. It came out 5 years ago so there should be some reviews and people talking about them.
@JasonWW2000 I went back and looked at the ti repair and shit review, honestly I didn't expect the ti3 to be any different. I'm no PG fan boy just was curious I guess.....idk why I asked if I kinda knew the answer. Thanks man.
@@barevids what do you think about the old school Phoenix Gold Base C.U.B.E.? i had one you could hear a serious deeper bass. at that time I only had 2 15's and a 500 Watt Amp
The repair cost more than a new 500w sub amp.. good on you for bring us the content anyway.

Thank you. Its nice to get a visual explanation on why these brands have fallen, not just hearsay
Very nice to see when we thought something is very reliable but it is the main fault that causes destruction...

It seems so simple when you are doing it. Nice work and camera angles so we can see.
Love your work, easy to follow, easy to learn and relaxing to watch
I just subscribed to your channel because Crash Test Goat introduced me to you. Nice channel.
Wow I remember when Phoenix Gold was THE brand to use. And priced very high.
WAS... they made a good parametric EQ back in the day but I've always found their AMPS underwhelming
Ayoooo more amps from the man himself SAM glad to see another vid

I had an amp do this because of a bad cap making the 494 frequency too high. Not seen the actual 494 go bad before.

Hi how can I contact you to book my amp in with you?

Anyone know why the RCA on a oscilloscope is clean but the output of the amp no matter the volume is a sign wave but it's like bouncing up and down
