There was a college basketball game sometime in the late 1980s that was played without fans because of a chickenpox or measles outbreak - I think it was played at Siena but I am not 100% certain. That is the only other instance I can think of where a sporting event of any sort was played in front of no fans.
I remember my dad calling me (I’m from Atlanta />/>/>) and telling me to turn on MLB network because the O’s were playing without fans and I just thought this was the coolest thing. Baltimore, I know how you feel. I played in a game in high school that was supposed to be cancelled due to inclinent weather
I can't remember, were the fans outside the park there illegally at that time due to the order to stay in? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to play an empty stadium game yet allow people to stand at the gate.

There were fans trying to watch outside the fence.
We’re gonna have to start getting used to this

They should have stayed in St.Louis.The Cardinals kept playing despite the antics of the Ferguson Fanatics.
Ferguson is in the suburbs of STL, the protests/riots here were three miles NW at Penn-North
Why did this happen?
A very violent protest happen and the city banned people from going into the park
I had tickets to that game
Dang that sucks
Stephen Avara Yeah, but I think of it as being a part of baseball history
