- Jeremy Clarkson passes judgement on the Vauxhall Signum. It may have a compartment for your celery but its clearly a car best enjoyed from the back seats all two of them! Contains behaviour which could be imitated.

Finally a car manufacturer who cares about the working man's celery transportation needs.
Yeah it’s about time
I wish I saw this 9 years ago..
^
Chacarron plays in my head
Its for sunglasses right?
Little did he realise every lorry that went past on the m40 had 30 people in the back
Lol, imagine if it actually had 250,000 hamsters
Nobody does reviews like clarkson and nobody ever will
Agree
Or Hammond or May
Chicken Feed babe yes mein friend
There's a good reason for that, ...he spends most of the review trying to make a joke out of a none issue.
Yes, Jeremy Clarkson
Introducing: the first deaf sound guy in the world!
It's not as bad as the CCx review
I can beardy hear what Jeremy said at the start of the video because the music was so loud
It’s not as bad as ‘Supercars do France’. You can’t hear anything they’re saying😂🤦🏻♂️
Don't forget the audi vs mountain climbers challenge!
Thank affirmative action
but the lorries had lots of people sitting in the back
HAHAHAH
Haha

Lorries are for smuggling. Completely different market niche.
"where were you at the time of the accident?"
"IN THE BACK!"
hahahaha
Are you alive after ten years.. just curious
Also u got kids and a family yet?🤷🏻♂️
Most importantly: which engine has your Signum got?
He's probably still alive last time he posted a video was like a year ago
Wow, 10 years, hows things
I died at the celery thing
I have six-pack abs now.
@@iasdasdasdii ok then...
R.I.P.
Did you survive?
2:55 did anyone notice that they created a beat with his voice and the sound of the cars?
yeah, I actually like it
I love how Jeremy does voiceovers for Forza which is an Xbox game, but he's always been talking about the playstation and Gran Turismo (and yes i know this video is from before he did voicing for Forza)
Because the devs of Forza payed him...
i know, i just find it funny and ironic, a guy who talks a lot about Playstation and GT ending up in Forza.
Hahahaahahahhaahahahahah
***** It's the BBC, not much Jeremy.

I’m surprised they never had a challenge to build a ‘back seat driver’ car.
They’ve had remote controlled cars and cars controlled from another car welded to the top of a car - even James had a car that could be driven from either end - but not a car that could be driven and controlled from the back seat.
at the very end of one of his saab reviews jeremy sort of did this
@@trekker105do you have a link to that
When my Dad moved in to his apartment, the first thing he did was get a fridge, set up the television, set up his stereo, set up the XBOX (very odd word when you think about it, xbox. hmmm).
Later that year he bought a Vauxhall Signum, and I can confirm that the indicator has a mind of its own and you can indeed fit a stick of celery in the cubby spaces up top.
I find it very interesting that you had to point out that your dad had moved.
A car company that has proper celery storage is one that truly cares
Holy shit, Richard Hammond looks like he's 19. xDDDDDDD
Delete the xd's
@@f1machka no u
Amazing right? He looks great for 35
He was 19.
You can see that this video is soooo old because Jeremy still had hair ahaahha
thick hair* he's not bald
Still had dat white fro
He looks thinner in this, probably because of the black shirt.
It's from 2003....
Yep that's right!!!! But its still a good car
I have a Vectra and I'm happy to say a selection of gardening tools also works in the back of that too. It's not an option limited to just the Signum.
That does remind me of mr. Bean
Laurens Witte When he rush to see dentist haha
RyanDennis No, when he bought a sofa and put it on top of his car and drive it on the sofa.
RyanDennis No, when he bought a sofa and put it on top of his car and drive it on the sofa.
Ethan8or that was another episode
Yeah, it got two references from two different episode:
- Back seat driving style, when Mr. Bean was going to see his dentist
- Some tools to drive a car, when Mr. Bean had fill his car with his groceries and all he had to do was sitting in the sofa above and drove his car
Even if this is from 2003,it looks like maybe 90's Top Gear
I was 4 in 03 😳 and this doesn't even look that old. Time flew by..
***** wow :D
Lukas I was a month 😂😂😂
Gwen Wolf Congrats I’m your 45th like have a nice day
@Alex I was 3
Actually its a perfect rental car for 4 people on a trip. You get room and comfortable seats. You cant comfortably sit 5 in any estate anyway.
So it's made to be a rental car
I mean that is the smallest market you could ever target though
I once sat three abreast in a New York yellow cab, one of whom was a slightly built young woman, and we still weren't properly comfortable.
@@christopherdean1326 That would be six abreast then 😁
@@andysedgley Four at most, two guy, one girl.
The celery humour was nearly a decade ahead of its time.
Indeed, Jeremy Clarkson was more inclined to joke about celery at the time than eat it! :-D
Yep lol
I love that jazzy music playing in the background lol
You mean Jeremy's voice in the background ?
Notso Sure no, I mean the music playing in the background of this video.
+Edward Horsey - it was a pun : the sound editor of top gear is known for making the music louder than the presenter's voice. :D
+Notso Sure ahh lol
You mean the william tell overture?
I too get the internet, TV and PlayStation running first when I move to a new house or apartment.
the audio is very poorly balanced
2003.
+epic.apri.39 so?
+Microage not good HD for audio in that time.
BestDucky RBLX
Audio is basically the same today as it was in the 1980s.
Microage Not really.
New top gear with Chris Evans and Matt le blanc can never hope to match this.
Totally...
That's a very, very sad thought.
You couldn't beat this today either as filming methods and angles have changed, so if the trio were to do this again it would have a very different feel. But that new feel has allowed them to make other different and funny things.
UPDATE: The Signum is no longer on the road.
Registration number: KE03 HKY
✗ Untaxed
Tax due: 07 July 2016
✗ No MOT
Expired: 02 October 2016
By the lenght of emblem on back it was probably 2.2l so i wonder why
Niklas Ahlfors It was indeed the 2.2 16v model.
Entertaining as always :-)
11 years, hope all is well mate
Legend says that the celery is still in the car.
I think the Vauxhall Signum is a very interesting car. I reckon it'll be a future classic within the next few years.
Make the music louder, I can still hear your voice
*Where were you in the time of the accident?*
In the back.
ಠ_ಠ I forgot about that bit. Thanks
This comment is underrated
A suddenly that happens with a Tesla in a gated community in USA April 2021. No one in the drivers seat but two persons burned to a very crispy condition.
Send granddad of in a Tesla and skip the crematorium fees.
16 years later and look at how many 4 door coupes we have on our roads. This car was way ahead of it's time!
I miss this dude reviews so much.Funny but he is the realest.Nobody does like old TopGear.Hahah Clarckson reviews are out of this world! He is the real petrolhead!
Love or hate the Signum, you have to admit one thing: Even in 2023, 20 years after its release, it looks fairly modern.
Cars from the late 90s, which really aren’t that much older, look ancient in comparison.
There are three seats in the back, but in the middle it's utterly uncomfortable.
Yavijo Congrats I’m your 10th like have a nice day
that thing looks about 100x better than the malibu maxx we got in the US
6:46 me, when my father taught me how to drive when i was 14
Luuk van den Berg me and my dad did the exact same thing, going on a field with our Volvo 850. I stalled the car like 20 times
Still didn't learn to drive ......so sad
Hey same here! Im still 14.
nice
Don't remember asking
I was confused what this was when it showed on my homepage, but I remembered the clip half way through hahaha it's been a while!
Reminds me of Mr. Bean
Gar96 Congrats I’m your 60th like have a nice day
Back when top gear's sound editor was special ed :'D
I think it's interesting, and the face lifted version was attractive. We got a sad sack version in the US called Malibu Maxx. It was distinctly unattractive but was a similar packaging premise.
This car came out slightly ahead of the BMW 1 Series and the revised Merc A Class and is the same idea. It only seemed to sell on a premium badge, Signum's were made in low numbers and not out for that long.
But the fridge now a days would be lit for Uber

2019 August? this is so legend!!
I love you Top Gear! Your humour is so hilarious! Those celery sticks!
I bet Amazon has a MUCH better sound editor...
yeah sound is terrible but it is 13 years old
the shade lol
Snakebloke it's because BBC has to re-examine the video before uploading it to RUclips and make edits to make sure that they use "worldwide" copyrighted content like music.. so whoever did the editing after the original air date messed up. Lots of other top gear RUclips videos around the same upload date suffer from the same sound editing
2001 Lol 😁
Snakebloke Alexa, get a new mic
Wait, a hoe? I thought Jeremy only gardened with shotguns :v
+turiqwalrus He's not gardening.
punisher1990 Yeah, but if it's not a tool in his gardening arsenal, why would he own one? /o/
For setting up a system with which you can drive a car from the back seat. Did you not watch the video, lol.
But why own one in the first place? :p
+turiqwalrus He probably bought it specifically.
I have a 3.2V6 Cosmo Opel Signum for 9 years. And it is still nice.Heavy and durable as a tank (even a Ford Transit was wasted in the nose when it was run into mine, while mine had only some nonvisible minor injuries), reliable and strong. And in an interestingly fine look.
Had an Opel Zafira (the one in my pfp) and we had a collision with a Passat (2018). The Passat's door was ruined, the Zafira had nothing more than a scratch
aaaaaah, Its nice to revisit one of the first top gear videos I saw.
oh god...that bit about the celery put tears in my eyes! xD i love that you don't need to be a car enthusiast to love top gear. you can learn a few things along the way but ultimately you're entertained by great presenters!
I think it's quite a good looking car. Nice idea about making the rear seats actually habitable, and it even makes for a better looking car than a hatchback without any space in the back. But of course, for anything good looking and affordable, there seems no market. I find this trend disappointing in today's society.
Andrew Piatek really? its a boring looking shitbox
Yeah, two better back seats seems way better than a trio that nobody is ever going to be happy sitting three across in.
Hell nobody ever likes sitting three across in the second row of my largish crossover, forget fitting three in a sedan/wagon unless they're all small children.
I remember there being a Mr. Bean episode where he had attached a lounge chair on the roof of his car and through some improvised mechanics, he was able to drive the car whilst sitting on a comfy chair.
When I was a child I wish there was only 2 seats as our grandma anyways squished in the back with us until we were 16 and 18
I live near the donkey sanctuary
+Xplosion51 Poland? :D
lawl joden well, I'm polish, I've asked HIM if he is from the country, not where it is..
+lawl joden LOL!
***** A no to o co my się spieramy xD
the end is the best part hhaha
He couldn't find anyone in the back of a car because it was quarter to 11 on a week day... While all the kids were in school.
3 Million subscribers, congrats
Containers for your celery?
My fridge doesn't even have that!
3:13 Technically that doesn't count because the passenger was sitting up front, and not in the backseat.
The front end (particularly the headlights) reminds me a bit of the Ford Fusion sold here in America.
well my grandfather actually drove a car in the back seat. The car was undergoing new seat covers at the time so he had no front seats, so to compensate he drove it in the back. The car was a VW beetle from the 70's or 60's
Surprised he didn’t make a joke about having to put £40 in the tin when a lorry went past. Would be very Clarkson
This car would be perfect for Lyft and Uber drivers.
IN AUSTRALIA they had this model vectra with a HUGE 3.2 litre V6, and about 1/3 have it here. Barely fit the damn thing under the hood, absolutely crammed in. The very next model of commodore/lumina had an optional 3.2 V6 and 3.6 V6 as standard..... YEAH. So basically it got an engine for a FAR bigger car rammed into a smaller car. The difference was the commodore was a direct injection. But THEORETICALLY according to standard engine sizes for the size of the vectra, it SHOULD BE able to just about dig holes into sealed roads. Would love to get to drive one to see.
"where were you at the time of the accident? In the back!" Great work jeremy you've become an inventor! LOL
The how-many-people-in-the-back segment at 03:00 ish is a perfect demonstration of just how inefficient the car tends to be at moving people around a city - and therefore why any metropolitan area of significance has to prioritise public transportation.
Or why everyone should buy a motorcycle
To Jeremy Clarkson, there's always "One Small Thing..." xD
That ending tho. Made my day.
Finally! a storage for celery! It's been a pain driving with celery in the way, at last a solution is available! LOL
“Jezza inadvertently explains car pollution in 60 seconds”
Exactly, people should either be carpooling or driving a tiny little car if alone. None of this commuting in an SUV nonsense 🙄
basically, Opel Signumn is first Vectra hatchback.
Astina Irritates me everytime when I hear Vauxhaul... it‘s an Opel!
facelift signum front looks much better
Sound man strikes again!! :D
6:10 The only problem with having string attached to a steering wheel is that you cannot do a full lock when in a car park!
"This is for the throttle"
**INTENSE ECOTEC NOISES**
Why is the audio on old clips like these so messed up? All I can hear is music and car noise, it sounds like Jeremy is stood 50 yards from the microphone
In my opinion it's perfect. Doesn't sound like he's eating the microphone
A "simple 2 seater" - best bet would be a late model MX5 with a convertible hard top, affordable, huge after market it if you want to tune it, not overly powerful, but handles and quick enough to have fun in real world situations. There are a lot of other options as well, just depends on what is you want to spend and what features matter more, or less to you.
@allenmackinnon its the compression from uploading the video to reduce the actual size (mb) to make streaming quicker and smoother, the same as compressing a .wav to an mp3 reduces sound quality
"Think of the donkeys" 3:09
I'd like to see a car whose dashboard isn't a collection of elements from the Periodic table.
i think the Audio is in full HD when you buy it in DVDs and when you uploaded it on youtube and play it in low quality it becomes like what you hear watching this video..
I have a Opel Signum and I love this car. It looks much better than the vectra.
This car is a genius idea for 3 or 4 person families. I'm 6'3" and 14 so I need a lot of room like in the back of that car and I only have 1 sibling and the fridge and dvd player would be useful on long trips
This actually looks like a damn good car.
I had one made me cry whenever i drove it
Im not sure if it was the 14 second to 60 or the indicator but its awful in every way
the 2003-2008 Vauxhall Signum/ Opel Signum was assembled in
Rüsselsheim, Germany
This is so true. My pop's purchased a Lincoln Navigator which holds 6 ppl in total comfort, but then it is just him and him wife. All that beautiful leather and no buts in them.
Driving from the bsck seat is great idea that can solve the problem of Saudi women who are not allowed to drive.Hoping car companiies will develop the idea and I can put a man doll in the driver seat.
Rajaa Algahtani have I got some news for you
Lol mr bean did that once
Harrison Baker He was on a sofa, with a brush for the accelerator.
Harrison Baker He was on a sofa, with a brush for the accelerator.
Harrison Baker the time when he was running late for the dentist and he changed clothes in the back of the mini while holding onto the steering wheel with his feet
In a pre uber world its overkill, but as an uber car its brilliant XD
Driving from the back of the car... Jeremy Clarkson is living my dream.
Who's watching in 2018 and thinking how luxurious he is talking about a 2003 car and look at our 18 plate cars. Beat that jeremy!
I was literally crying at the celery humour the first time i saw this back in the day. Clarkson's sense of humour is brilliant
I wanna find out what the sound engineer for Top Gear at the time was smoking
Well the fridge is great for families going on vacation. You'll always have a cool drink having a break. Sadly my car doesn't have it. Sure, I'm usually driving alone, but though I wouldn't even need to get out of the car to get something to drink
And when you go on holiday, the trunk is usually full of bags. So there's no need to open it and risk that they all fall out and you need about an hour to get them all in again.
The pockets in the roof also seem to be very use to store the purge. Or the mobile phone
I won't lie, this is definetly me when i can't hear anything he is saying.
There is someone called Mr.Bean..
In the morning nowonw is sitting to the back seats of my car either. In the evening i always have someone sitting to the back. My kids, my wife, friends etc
That sound editor did it again
it is designed for doctor who fans aka the celery holder
Mr Beam did it better.
I'm the battlefield!
*Mr Bean
yes he did!
True
by the way, nice drift picture you snapshot in GRID
As someone who loves celery this is the car for me.
