Just use atomic updates. Also, with rpm-ostree, Nix, and Flatpak, it's easy to downgrade. I haven't needed to care about updates in a while now. Just set it up once and then forget it. As for the rest? Throw it in a container, use distrobox, easy.

If you're someone who follows tech news enough, no reason to have auto update on imo. Personally since the iOS iCloud photos update a month or so back, no chance I'm doing auto updates again. I'll give it a week or more before updating any device regardless of OS/device.
